New Proposal: The Right to Self-Defense

Postby Costada » Thu May 20, 2010 4:24 pm

I have been planning for a while to submit a proposal entitled "The Right to Self Defense." It lives exactly up to its title. What do you think WA nations?

Seems excessively vague, I would hope that you carefully and precisely defined "self-defense", because the term is open to abuse.

Before commenting on such legislation we shall require a viewing of the proposal at hand.

In the opinion of the honoured ambassador from Charlotte Ryberg, I believe that home self-defence laws should be left at national level because I don't think it would be a big issue enough to be considered by the international community.

I like the idea, but can't decide without a draft.

Like our colleague from Charlotte Ryberg, we too believe this is a purely national level issue, not something which requires WA micromanagement and overview.

self defense from what exactly?

guns?

knives?

swords?

disease?

stupidity?

unwanted sexual advances?

cumpulsory democracy?

duct tape?

people with eyepatches?

bears with guns?

I could go on but I trust my point is made.

Please elaborate

Might we ask in what way such a resolution is in any way a matter of international importance?

I don't think this is a big enough issue for the WA. And I'm not exactly a NatSov'er.

This sounds like a needless proposal most nations have basic human rights to begin with. This proposal has the side effect of effecting, law enforcement, nations with conservative and or unequal laws/rights for women, which is another bill altogether, gun laws, violence issues, the whole gambit. This sounds like more than just the right to bear arms but a right to violence, I know thats not the intention but thats what happens with laws that require heavy micromanagement and the good will of average people, neither of which are dependable.

Something like this is a National issue you should take up yourself as leader, not a global mandate. I mean physical training is also a good idea but only certain nations will want to invest time into that. As a resolution it wont get off the ground.

I believe we already have one like how the wise moderator had pointed out. So it would be unnecessary.

That was a UN resolution. UN resolutions are null and void since the UN collapsed. It's still quite unnecessary, though.

As has been mentioned previously by other delegates, the Serri delegation is of the opinion that this matter is one best left to domestic law, excluding perhaps international waters - but this is a different issue in itself.

Is this delegation waiting in vain for a draft for consultation or shall we move forward with more pressing matters?

Let's move on. Since there is no draft to even discuss, I recommend we let this topic fall from the floor until someone decides to bring up some actual legislation.
