Royal succession within the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland abides by absolute cognatic primogeniture. The crown and all possessions thereof pass onto the monarch’s eldest child regardless of sex. Lesser titles are passed on either by absolute cognatic primogeniture or gavelkind; in the case of house or dynastic extinction, the titles return to the Crown’s possession.

Members of the royal family may marry commoners, lower nobility or foreign royalty, but must remain within the state church to retain their eligibility for succession. Those who convert or leave the Church cannot inherit the throne. Non-Christians and Christians not in communion with the state church cannot inherit royal titles.

The Crown may freely choose to strip a member of the royal family of their titles and ranks, and may likewise freely choose to disinherit a member of the royal family and bar them from succession.

The British Sovereign is the Monarch of the North American Union. However, in 1867, the grandson of HM Queen Charlotte, Prince Arthur, the Duke of Albany, was made Prince Regent of the British Sovereign in America and Viceroy of the North American Union (commonly called the Viceroy, though the title of Prince Regent is the broader title, covering all British Realms and Dominions in America, while the Viceroyalty is just for the North American Union--the largest of the British Realms in America), and this is a permanent, hereditary viceroyalty where the Regental and Viceregal offices go to the current Viceroy's heir upon the current Viceroy's death or resignation. It was meant to simulate a monarchical position in the NAU constitution by having a hereditary office and a Prince of the Blood of the Royal House to be the ancestry for the office for the prestige and stability of the Kingdom. It is also possible for the Prince Regent-Viceroy to ascend the British throne though is already highly unlikely given the branching of the Royal Family in 1867 and is only considered as an emergency succession if there was a decapitation strike against the main line of succession of the Royal Family.

Since the early 21st century, the succession rules for the British Sovereign are governed through absolute primogeniture (Succession to the Crown Act 2010 in Britain and Ireland, Term of Union 93), where the eldest child (no matter their sex) is the heir apparent. For the Regental-Viceregal dual offices, dignities, titles, and styles are governed through male-line primogeniture as the key vehicle for inheritance is the Royal Dukedom of Albany, though there is a special remainder, a one-time exception for variation in succession, that would allow a female to inherit the Dukedom and thus the rest of the Viceroyalty (Princess Anne of Albany will be the first Vicereine of the NAU and Princess Regent in America) but the successor of Princess Anne will be selected via male-line primogeniture, most likely her son. It is expected that the Sovereign will either do another special remainder or promote absolute primogeniture for the Dukedom of Albany so as the viceregal succession will be smoother no matter the situation.

Head of Government
The Prime Minister of the North American Union is the head of government of the NAU. The PMNAU is appointed by the Viceroy-in-Council upon the nomination by the House of Commons for the appointment to the Office of General Treasurer, Office of Chief Secretary to the Viceroy, and other sinecures and offices, after a general election. If the PMNAU were to die in office, resign, or is removed from office (by either confidence motions or viceregal removal upon parliamentary address), the Deputy PM, or next highest in the Order of Precedence for the Ministers of the General Departments of State, will be Acting PM and will run a caretaker government until the House of Commons formally nominates to the Viceroy-in-Council a successor (effectively choosing the PM).

The Succession of the Monarchy is governed by a series of protocols known as the Pauline and Andrine Laws.

Pauline Laws: Laws implemented under Emperor Pavel I (r. 1796-1801) in 1797

Andrine Laws: Amendments to the Pauline laws made by Emperor Andrei IV (r.1828-1875) in 1870.

The Order of Descent: The realm will not be divided upon succession, and the first right to the throne is to the firstborn son of the Tsar. The Andrine laws add that if a Tsar's firstborn son dies while having a son of his own, that this Grandson of the Tsar inherits his father's place as crown prince before his father's brothers. From there, succession works its way up and back down through several generations looking for the next valid heir according to all the laws.

On Religion: The Tsar must be and remain a member of the Eastern Orthodox Church, and his Wife must be so as well from the time of their marriage.

On Gender: The Pauline/Andrine laws lean heavily toward the agnatic, but women nonetheless retain a technical path to the throne if, first, no valid strictly male-line descendent of a previous Tsar remains, and then secondly, if no valid male heir by a female line exists.

On Marriage: The sitting Tsar at the time of a Grand Duke or Duchess' (descendant of a relatively recent Tsar) marriage reserves the right to approve or not approve the marriage beforehand. Those who move forward from unapproved marriages forfeit their right to the throne for themselves and all their children. Furthermore, commoner marriage and foreign morganatic marriage (before the Andrine laws, all morganatic marriage, morganatic meaning to a noble of clearly unequal rank) also forfeits right to the throne, regardless of approval.

Tsar Andrei, as an early reader of the publications of Gregor Mendel, and having observed the deformity and rumors of deformity among the closely related monarchs of much of Europe, was an extremely early adopter among monarchs of ideas of anti-consanguinity measures to ensure that his dynasty remained of stable and healthy stock. As such, he introduced further restrictions on marriage, that no member of the household was to marry a closer relation than a fourth cousin, while more-than-counterbalancing with the permission that Russian nobility down to and including the rank of Countess were fair marriages to retain the right of succession, to increase the marriage pool significantly, while also being in line with his disdain with much of the "blueblood culture" and counteracting his concern about "the increasing Germanization of all the monarchies."

The Kingdom of Rwizikuru uses agnatic primogeniture, with women being completely excluded from the Rwizikuran line of succession. All male descendants of Munonzwa Ngonidzashe, the father of the first monarch of Rwizikuru, Izibongo Ngonidzashe, are eligible for succession (unless otherwise disqualified), and the crown is passed to the eldest living son of the King (or if there's no living eldest son, to that son's eldest son if that son had any sons). The queen selects her successor in any manner she chooses. This successor is sometimes a blood relative but more often is whoever is considered the most respected, capable political leader in the parliament. The parliament has the ability to block the succession of a queen but usually does not. Co-rulers are appointed following the succession (usually soon after) and can also be blocked by parliament; this happens more frequently, and is considered a very important part of the parliament's duties to ensure that a poor choice for ruler doesn't end up succeeding anyway through a relationship with the chosen queen.

The imperial throne is inherited through matrilineal primogeniture, usually going to the eldest female child of the reigning Empress. Failing that, it will go to the nearest female relative of the Empress, including possibly sisters or cousins but excluding women who have married male members of the imperial family (as they are not considered to be of the imperial bloodline.)

Under absolutely no circumstance whatsoever can the throne be inherited by a male.

The most notorious succession crisis occurred between 1157AD and 1178, known as the "Mahunga Kuia" period. This was caused by Empress Wahine Hapu-rua giving birth to twin daughters who were both eligible for the throne and thus served as Co-Empresses, until the death of Maharani Emera, one of the sisters.

Maharani Emera's daughter Tamahine Matamua was considered the rightful heir to the throne after the death of the surviving twin, Kamupene e toe ana, due to being the eldest child of (an) Empress - however Kamupene e toe ana attempted to change the succession law to allow her daughter Princess Tawhai to inherit the throne instead.

However, the Rangatira at the time, Te Mana Hanga, declared that Tamahine Matamua was the rightful heir to the throne and declared Princess Tawhai's claim illegitimate and himself swore fealty to the former.

The result was a brief civil war, in which supporters of Princess Tawhai attempted to storm Rakipa Castle and take it by force, however Te Mana secretly had the Empress evacuated to the southern city of Whakaara before rounding up Tawhai and her supporters and having them executed for treason - including Princess Tawhai; the only example to date of a member of the Imperial family suffering this fate.

(The legacy of this incident is that, to this day, the city of Whakaara has become the seat of the Imperial throne.)

The rules of succession to the Emnian throne are determined by the Acts of Succession which were originally approved by the Sainidinn in September of 1815. In 1980 the act was reissued with updates when the core principle of matrilineal-preference primogeniture (female-preference succession) was changed in favour of absolute primogeniture (eldest child regardless of sex).

As of its current (1980) version, the Acts specify that:

• Only children born within a legal marriage may inherit the throne
• Only descendants of Príoma II (b. 1940) may inherit the throne
• A princess or prince in the line of succession shall belong to the Autocephalous Temple of Emnia and profess its faith
• The offspring of an approved marriage must be brought up within Emnia and speak the Emnian language
• A princess or prince in the line of succession may not marry and remain in the line of succession without having received the consent of the Monarch and the Sainidinn
• A princess or prince in the line of succession is also prevented from becoming the monarch of another country, either by election, inheritance, or marriage, without the consent of the Monarch and the Sainidinn

The United Realms is a federal constitutional monarchy, with eleven of the twelve constituent realms governed by hereditary monarchies (six kingdoms, three grand duchies, one duchy, and one principality) with their own laws of succession.

The 1829 Royal Charter originally stated that the Crown of the United Realms, held by the King of Fanelayasia, was to be inherited by the legitimate male descendants of Felipe I through the practice of agnatic primogeniture. In 1901, the royal charter was amended to adopt male-preference primogeniture, thus thus allowing for women to be named heir presumptive. Over a century later, the charter was amended again, establishing equal primogeniture for those born after 12 November 2011.

The royal charter also restricts succession to legitimate descendants of Felipe I who are members of the Church of Oronia, although this does not prohibit the inheritance of other titles. If a member is not a member of the Church of Oronia, the disqualification also does not extend to the individual's legitimate descendants who follow the Church of Oronia. While it was not explicitly prohibited, it was customary that those who marry into the royal house were members of the Church by birth or through conversion. When he briefly reigned as King, Eduardo announced his plans to marry a Roman Catholic woman, who would have been the first member of the royal house to not be a member of the Church. Due to public outrage and the disapproval from the government, he abdicated in favor of his younger brother, Agustín; this was the only voluntary abdication in the history of the royal house.

Members of the House of Küxal-Kofi, the royal house of the United Realms, who are under the age of 25 can only marry with consent of the Crown and Senate; those above the age of 25 can marry one year after giving notice to the Crown unless the Congreso Nacional opposes the marriage. Any marriage contracted without consent is considered null and void, thus disinheriting their present or future children. Furthermore, a member of the royal house can be removed from the line of succession should they marry without consent, or if they are found unfit to be included (the latter of which has never occurred in the history of the royal house). The royal line of succession can also be altered by either the Crown or Senate, but the consent of the other is required; prior to 1901, the Crown could make alterations without Senate approval.

The royal titles and styles to be used by members of the royal house were established by royal decree in 1831. And since it is constitutionally the source of all honors, titles, and dignities in the United Realms, the Crown technically has the power to strip a member of their royal titles and styles. However, this is never happened since the nation's establishment. In the act detailing Eduardo's abdication, he formally relinquished his titles and styles granted to him as King. It had been unclear as to whether he would retain the title and style granted to him as a legitimate descendant of Felipe I, so it was included that he would bear the titles Prince of Fanelayasia and Duke of Pikantüpu, with the style His Royal Highness; while his wife was denied any titles or styles, his descendants would be titled and styled accordingly.

They don’t get to keep the title if they marry someone who is not a Christian but their Christian children do.
There’s nothing explicitly stated that stops a person of certain political views from becoming monarch.

The monarch can strip someone of hereditary titles in which case they are passed along the laws of succession and religious titles in which case they become vacant, all other titles also require judicial review in addition to monarchical approval.

Since a 1985 constitutional amendment, succession to the throne of Aikoland has been based upon absolute primogeniture, prior to this amendment, it was based upon male-preference primogeniture.

The line of succession as defined by the amendment is as follows:
- The eldest child of the current monarch
- The monarch's other children, in descending order from oldest child to youngest child
- The monarch's grandchildren, starting with the children of the eldest child in descending order from oldest grandchild to youngest grandchild.
- The monarch's siblings, in descending order from oldest sibling to youngest sibling
- Children of the monarch's siblings, starting with the children of the oldest sibling in descending order from oldest niece/nephew to youngest niece/nephew.

The monarch has no power to change the line of succession or remove someone from it, only Parliament has that power. There are no laws that will remove someone (or their children) from losing their place in the line of succession due to marrying someone of a different religion (there used to be laws forbidding members of the Royal Family from marrying non-Catholics but these laws were repealed in the 1960s, the monarch is still required to be a Catholic, however) and there have never been any laws that stop someone from holding certain political views from becoming Emperor or Empress.

The only thing that would remove a member of the Royal Family from the line of succession is by marrying a commoner, which requires them to give up all titles and status as a member of the Royal Family and becoming a commoner themselves. However, this has not happened since the 1929 marriage of Princess Caroline to Aikolandais socialite Joseph Georges Calvet-Poulin. While this was not the most recent time that a member of the Royal Family has wished to marry a commoner, all future instances have had the current Emperor/Empress bestowing the commoner with a title of either chevalier or seigneur/seigneuresse prior to marriage, thus making it a marriage between a Royal and nobility.

The monarch may also not strip other members of the Royal Family of their titles or ranks, only Parliament can do that (or the member of the Royal Family voluntary giving them up).

Rhodevus is a Rubinian Monarchy, which means it is a very strange balance of being constitutional, absolute and non-hereditary.

So, before one can be a monarch, they must first be an Heir (Héritier Potentiel or Potential Heir), and before that, they must be an Heir Candidate. To be an Heir Candidate, one must first meet a few basic requirements

1. Be born a citizen of Rhodevus
2. Maintain only Rhodeve citizenship (dual citizenship disqualifies a person from candidate status)
3. Serve in the Rhodeve Military (either diplomacy or military branches. As military services is mandatory, pretty much every citizen meets this requirement)
4. Be of sound mind and of good standing (criminal arrests disqualifies you, as do mental health issues)
5. Be able to uphold the duties of the position (Heirs have actual duties and roles in the government, and being selected means you need to be able to drop your current job at a moment's notice)
6. Maintain strong allegiance to Rhodevus

Once a person meets these requirements, they have the POTENTIAL to be added to the candidate list. This is a well-known check to ensure no foul play regarding the appointment of a success. It is a list comprised of 7-35 names organized into a 7x5 grid pattern. Each name is of someone hand-selected by the previous monarch and has passed the initial requirements to be labelled as an Heir candidate. The exact order of names is known only to the current monarch and the Imperial Premier.

The organizational structure is to ensure that if a candidate declines the position of official heir, there is an immediate next potential choice. The first candidate is written in the top left section of the grid. If this candidate were to decline the position, then the name directly beneath it is asked next. Similarly, if the Senate and House of Commons do not agree with the candidate, then this too will have the candidate written below as the next option.

If the primary candidate in question is killed or dies from suspicious circumstances, or in any way acts in a manner deemed suspicious by Rhodeve criminal code, then the entire column is removed and the next column to the right is used.

If all names are removed from the list, then a new Heir Candidate List is drafted. The list is written by the reigning monarch and kept as a paper version in a heavily locked and fortified wing of the Imperial Palace.

While this is happening in the background, heir candidates are being tested by the government (psychological tests, being called to meet with the senate or House for questioning, and being voted out if need be).

Heir candidates are reviewed in the monarch's chosen order by the Council of Premiers to deliberate. If it passes through them, the House of Commons gets to vote. if it passes them, the Senate gets to vote. If any of these groups reject a candidate, the name is removed from the heir candidate list.

Following this, stage the monarch will then interview each Heir candidate personally, in order of preference of successor. These interviews are conducted with the Imperial Premier as well. It is at this stage that a candidate is offered the position, in which they can accept or refuse.

Upon acceptable of the position, the Heir Candidate finally becomes... the Héritier Potentiel, or the Potential Heir. This is the official Heir position and the person is given the title of Prince Heir, Princess Heir, or Next Heir (their choice). During this stage, the Heir gets to take on official responsibilities, duties and tasks. A Potential Heir can still be removed from the position by a no-confidence vote from the Senate and House, or the monarch revokes the title, which starts the process over from the beginning.

There is a common misconception that the Rhodeve heir is called the Heir Héréditaire. An Heir Héréditaire however, is a different title. This is the title of the first child to the monarch as it translates to 'Hereditary Heir'. Had the monarchy been hereditary, then this person would be the official heir. It is common practice that until a true prince or princess heir is chosen, the Heir Héréditaire is the recognized heir to the monarch.

The issue with this title is exacerbated with the current Wolff dynasty, in which both Queen Diana and her father King Benner the Great were Heirs Héréditaire prior to becoming monarchs.

Once the current monarch passes away or steps down, the Potential Heir steps before the House and is granted the title of Monarch.

But things don't end there, because there is one last thing that the Potential Heir must do before being the official monarch. They must sign a Rubinian Decree. This decree is essentially a contract between the House and the monarch, which strips some of the absolutist powers away from the monarch and grants them to the rest of the government. It's a strange catch-22, where the absolute monarch can't become an absolute monarch without the permission of the government, and the government can't be held as a government, without the permission of the absolute monarch. The government will refuse to grant the title of monarch unless the heir restricts their own powers, and the heir can refuse to grant the government legitimacy unless they put forward a satisfactory Rubinian Decree.

Once this is signed, finally (FINALLY), the monarch is succeeded.

Some say we are going through a succession crisis, as our leader was put into power under what was essentially a military coup. Technically the next in power would be General Wetmore's second in command, Captain Jack Spaulding. Our nation has yet to determine if elections will be held to replace the leader, and if so, should they be decided by the public or by votes of their representatives. There are also rumors that General Wetmore may be installed as leader for life.

The Presidium is the executive branch of the DRY government. Unlike many nations, the central legislative body of the DRY is managed by a plural executive consisting of a group of eleven people. They work together privately to deliberate on how to proceed with policy and which laws to pass, acting together to steer the course.

They are drawn from the wider membership of the party, who may run for election. The election is public and all citizens may participate in the vote, the only elected position with this quality in the government. One of them is chosen by the others to represent the nation in international affairs whenever the body decides a new person in required for the position or the General Ministry does. The new spokesperson must then be approved by the Ethics Department of the GME.

When a member of the presidium dies or is otherwise incapacitated, their position is filled at the next General Party Election.
