Welcome to Bollonich

Overview

The Republic of Bollonich , is a small nation located on the northern side of Rushmore to the east of Græntfjall and the north of Weatherdon. The Republic of Bollonich is sparsely populated with a large proportion of the nation being covered in coniferous forests and arid regions. Bollonich is a highly advanced nation scientifically and economically. 90% of the Bollonischian population are habited on the coasts on the northern side. Bollonich’s capital city Vreton, is a lavish location known throughout the multiverse as the stop for tourists passing by.

Players and Tourists Guidelines

Drug Policy - Bollonich has a relatively liberal drug policy, with marijuana sold throughout the nation. Any drugs that are found in the presence of players or tourists while arriving into Bollonich shall be returned on inspection if the substance is permitted by law. If it is not, the substance shall be confiscated. The presence of such a substance after arrival shall be subject to national law and dependent on the severity of the substance owned.
Alcohol policy - All people above 18 can consume and own alcohol. The last drink can be served at 2 am in the night after which all pubs must close. Identification of your age is required to purchase alcohol and ID maybe required for consumption. The Blood alcohol content for driving is 0.03%, above which a person is not legally allowed to drive.

Transportation

The matches that shall be played across two venues in two cities. The players shall be commuting with the means of airplanes, commercial versions of which shall also be available to tourists. If a person wishes not to avail Bollonich’s airlines, they can use Bollonich’s public transport system with the NCHS, being vastly available. Rental cars or motorbikes are also available however to rent one of these a person will need to display his or her driving license.
For within city commute, a person is welcome to use Bollonich’s underground system of subways, which costs a small fee for tourists. Cycles are also widely available for rent across Bollonischian cities.
For inter city transit a separate option also exists, that of national railways. Some passenger railways are free of cost while others require a small fee, as such trains are owned by privatised companies.

Tourism

If you are travelling to Bollonich, you might want to extend your stay to view some of the beauties here. Fermont is home to the National History Museum where a person new to Bollonich can learn all about our history and have a deeper understanding. Among educational locations such as this, another is the Bollonischian Cultural Centre located in Vreton which has information all about the culture and traditions. Visiting monuments like the Founders Statue located at Marda should be something on your bucket list.
The other major tourist attraction are the beaches and coniferous forests of Bollonich. The northern coast of Bollonich is blessed with a number of beaches and is a tourist hotspot with Kibnoto beach near Vreton being highly famous. The coniferous forests located towards the south eastern side of Bollonich are endowed with a vast variety of flora and fauna. The Great Bollosch Tiger are also found here. The Akusha National Park located near Akusha is the largest national park in Bollonich which receives a large number of tourists every year.

People and Living Facilities

The People of Bollonich are extremely friendly and are willing to help out anyone, however they are also very lawful and don’t like to break the law for anyone or anything. They can converse in English or the Bollonischian native language. The people speak nicely, however if you enter a political discussion with a Bollonischian don’t expect them to be nice to you as Bolloischians are highly passionate about politics and anything remotely related to it.
If you are visiting Bollonich, you will need a place to stay, and you could avail the 5 star Government line of hotels presented by the Bollonischian Department of Hotels. To get a room in any of these hotels you will need to produce your ID, either digitally or physically. The locals shall also be able to point you to the local home stay or such other places. All hotels and home stays are Government approved for safety, and other facilities.

Sporting Culture

The Bollonischian people are highly passionate about sports, and you are bound to find a following for each and every sport. The most popular sport by far is football which is nearly followed by all sports fans, which also includes some of the most passionate fans ever. The rivalry between Vreton United and Vreton City is the most famous and revered among all. It has also led to the phrase, “If you see two people fighting they must be United and City fans.” Not a very elegant phrase but a phrase nonetheless.
The second place is held by two sports, mainly cricket and tennis. Cricket is a sport that is either loved or hated by most Bollonischians, and has a fair number of people from both camps. Tennis a sport mainly enjoyed by casual sports lovers and normal people, generally seen as a sport of the rich people.
Basketball is an ever present force in the Bollonischian sporting market, popular in the more inland areas of Pseudonia and Lorfgrania despite the presence of some pretty good infrastructure in cities like Fermont. The domestic make up mainly consists of semi-pro to amateur leagues and clubs with little organised structures. However with recent developments and leaps in other indoor sports like volleyball and handball, an organised system with a growth in popularity could be established. And the hosting of the IBC is supposed to boost and push this growth in popularity.

Host Cities and Stadiums

Fermont - Fermont is a north-western coastal city which severed as the capital of Bollonich prior to the switch to Vreton. It’s almost on par with Vreton in terms of facilities and the sports culture is much more rich to that of Vreton, as Fermont is seen as the home of lots of sports such as tennis, cricket, handball and volleyball have all found homes here.
The National Basketball Arena (cap. 9,000) is the oldest basketball arena in the world having gone through multiple restoration projects to maintain safety and capacity standards. The current version of the arena is very different from the version it was when it was first constructed. This stadium has arguably seen the growth of basketball in Bollonich with its inception in Fermont and the rapid spreading to the more isolated areas of Pseudonia and Lorfgrania. Fans will be able to fill in the stadium to its brim supporting their favourite teams.

Zollikerberg - Zollikerberg is a south western city which is the capital of Pseudonia and the largest city of the state. Infrastructure wise it’s not the largest however it has good living facilities with affordable housing making it a great city to reside in. Basketball is by far the largest sport in this city, with the only competition it gets is from ice hockey. Cold conditions makes it the perfect place for an indoor sport such as basketball during the summer.
The Haward Berger Stadium (cap. 13,500) is a recently renovated stadium to increase its capacity from 7,000 to nearly double its initial capacity. The stadium has also been modified into a multipurpose stadium for the city to host events and sports apart from basketball. Fans here will be looking to take into the atmosphere which is going to spectacular throughout the time of the IBC knockout stages.

Welcome to Quebec and Shingoryeo!

Transportation

To arrive in Quebec you'll likely just want to fly in to the city that you will be playing in. Both Montreal and Quebec City have an airport that serve most major airlines, include including the giant Quebecois duo of Spiritair and Aeroquebec groups. The likewise goes if one wishes to arrive in Quebec by port, or international train, with both having international services available (OOC: Please let me know if you need any arrangements).

While travelling inside country, there are main methods you can use for this. Various levels of services exist per speed, route and also the overnight availability (this option remains very popular in Quebec), and they are also extremely punctual/on-timerelatively punctual compared to other methods (one or two-hour delays are better than what you'd get in other options, with this bad of a weather), popularcramped (best option out of any right now) and frequent (one train per 30 minutes, with more coming due to demand), making it a very cost-effective and attractive option. Even with such situations the services in Quebec National Railways (QNR) are high-quality and well-maintained, so don't worry about your comfort while riding trains.

As for Montreal-Quebec City services, both cities are connected to one another by train service once every 30 minutes:
  • Quebecois Train Express (QTX) - High Speed Rail - 0:50 - 26x Daily between Montreal Saint-Silas and Quebec City Reneegrad
  • Velo - Medium-Speed Service, Daytime services - 1:30-45 - 14x Daily between Montreal Saint-Silas, and Quebec City Reneegrad stations
  • Nightstar - Medium-Speed Service, Nighttime services - 2:00-2:30 - 8x Daily between Montreal Saint-Pancras and Quebec City Reneegrad Stations

Languages

There are three official languages in this nation: English, French and Korean. All 3 languages are taught in school curriculum and with great depth, causing most of the population to be at least trilingual. Additionally, in this part of the nation there are some other First Nations languages being recognised as regional languages and are used+learned to great depth in schools, so please note this when you're RPing in Quebec. Most Quebecois you'll meet are at least fluent in two of the languages and that will show with way they speak.

Money

The national currency of Quebec is Quebecois Pound, with the exchange rate of $2 NS for 1 Quebecois pound. With the nation being rich with huge economy, almost everyone will have at least has a good deal of money here. So please don't feel surprised if the products are much more expensive here than back home, excluding alcohol and certainly marijuana.

Things you'll need in your stay, prices in NS Dollars (NS$) and Quebecois Pound (Q)

- Hotel: NS$50-400, Q$25-200
- Public transport in both cities: NS$2-6, Q1-3
- An one-way ticket between Montreal and Quebec City: NS$8-40, Q4-20
- Average cost of food: NS$6-34, Q3-17
- Sports tickets: NS$40-600, Q20-250
- Bottle of water: NS$8, Q4 (Sale of bottled water itself is extremely limited, with public fountains providing very low interest for the people)
- Alcohol: NS$10-100, Q5-50 per keg
- Public phone: NS$2 per 5-minute call, Q1 per call

Cuisine

Quebecois cuisine has evolved through centuries of social and political change. Originating from dominant Korean and elegant French cuisine that came with settlers, as well as materials and existing food of the First Nations living in the area, Quebecois cuisine has evolved through a complex interaction of the natural environment and different cultural trends and is the best mix of it all.

Quebecois cuisine is largely based upon rice, other diverse kinds of grains, vegetables, and meats(in this area moose and caribou, and to rare cases bears). The meals are noted for the number of side dishes (banchan) that accompany steam-cooked short-grain rice. It varies on the personal preferences but often in every meal they eat at least some form of maple syrup, Kimchi and/or bread. Commonly used ingredients include sesame oil, doenjang (fermented bean paste), soy sauce, salt, garlic, ginger, pepper flakes and gochujang (fermented red chili paste). In this part of the nation, fish are caught off the rivers and lakes to be eaten in whatever the way one prefers as well.

Ingredients and dishes vary by region to region, with many. Many regional dishes have become national, and dishes that were once regional have proliferated in different variations across the country. Meals are regulated by cultural etiquette, which are very hard to follow for even the average Quebecois due to all the processes they take.

Feel free to ask me for any questions if you have any in mind.

Religion

Quebec is a religiously diverse country, though divided when it comes to dominant regions. In the cities where the International Basketball Championships will be hosted, First Nations' religions are widely practiced, with Quebecois Catholic Church and Buddhism right behind. Due to these differences, all three levels of Government keeps some separation from any religions, though they still hold some influences in those levels and receive lots of funding. It is also not recommended to argue about politics or religion in Quebec, as political and religious apathy is not really a thing for the Quebecois people.

Laws

Culturally and socially, Quebec is in bit of a mix. Another handy chart will be in place to explain some of Quebec's laws in place:

Recreational drugs: Legal, though selling them without a provincial licence can lead to up to $10,000 in fines and 5 years in jail.
Hard drugs: Illegal, with punishments up to $50,000 in fines and 5 years in jail for possession and consumption of the drugs.
Prostitution: Legal. People won't be talking about it, but will nod along. That said, any form of human trafficking involved will come up with minimum 25 years of jail time.
Pornography: Legal, aside from child pornography (applies to any pornographic videos or anything else starring people up to 18 years of age). Possession of child pornography will land you straight in jail for 7 years, while production and distribution of it can lead to potential death sentence. So, don't try it as it's a big no-no.
Legal age for tobacco: 18
Legal age for alcohol: 14
Maximum BAC to drive: 0.03.
Saying the word 'Coconut': Legal

All the foreign citizens caught under the Federal and/or Provincial law will not be extradited, unless of a special order given by Christine II and the Prime Minister.

Host Clusters

The Ministry of Sport and Recreation, as well as its internal body, the Imperial Sporting Council, has recently shifted from a nationwide to regional-based hosting system on the international tournaments hosted in Quebec and Shingoryeo, to promote easier, more environmentally-friendly travel, as well as fostering regional interest in a sport of concern.

Thus, in a bid proposed by the Basketball Quebec, the cities of Montreal and Quebec City were selected to host the Quebecois half of the International Basketball Champions' knockout round.

Located in middle of Central Quebec, the City of Montreal is the largest city in Quebec & Shingoryeo. Founded in year 1554 as the meeting place between the indigenous peoples of the area and the rapidly expanding kingdom, the city evolved from a collective of small communities into an active trading centre for the Quebecois merchants, the government, and the neighbouring Semars.

Then, as the kingdom expanded to incorporate almost all of its current territories (and South Detroit), as well as expanding into other territories to form the Quebecois Empire, so did Montreal as not only did it become the economic centre of the Quebecois Empire, but also the place of many contrasts that's come to be remembered for all its faces in the industrial revolution and the Age of Quebecois Empire. This is also when its famed nickname, the 'Blue Smoke', came up, with the city's been part of the latest industrial developments and until about late 1800s the latest buildings, when the building bylaws were introduced by the nouveau bourgeoisies and the nobility. Not to mention the Korean-Quebecois Romanticist movements that had come up as the expanded access to the Interrealm Portal had resulted in a particularly strong fervour of sentiments in the country.

The city, however, also had its down moments- the city was struck, in chronicle economic depression between late 1950s to early 1990s, with particular sense of dreariness, the grime and the loss that caused Montreal to be remembered for its particular brand of rock music and the musical theatre in the West End, but it all seemed as if its fortunes, unlike the other major cities in the country who had gained vibrancy during this period (Kingston, Halifax, California City and Winnipeg being among those), were dwindling quickly.

By the 1990s, however, the Quebecois economy had finally started to climb up, and with the previous decade's successful industrial switches to banking and other tertiary sectors of the economy once again, as well as the contemporary cultural scene that had drawn many eyes back there again, and since then it hasn't looked back. Having taken back the economic reins from Quebec City and Kingston, Montreal is once again, the economic and contemporary cultural capital of the nation.

Today, Montreal is the largest city in Quebec & Shingoryeo with 7.4 million people residing in the city proper and 10.3 million on the Montreal Province itself. Given its particular economic and cultural note, Montreal has been remembered for being more cosmopolitan and the left-wing of the two metropoles compared to Quebec City. This is reflected in particular with the ethnic diversity of the city's immigrant population the past two centuries, who have come largely from various parts of the Multiverse. It remains the home to about two-fifth of the nation's 100 largest companies, as well as 4 of the 7 nationwide banks in the country (Bank of Montreal, Banque Centrale, Royal Commonwealth Bank) and the Montreal Commonwealth Exchange (MCX). While it has its own shares of skyscrapers, especially on the South Shore, and parts of the West and East Ends, the Downtown Proper still maintains most of the facades from the 1700s-1800s.

Sure, the 'Blue Smoke' has way too many attractions for a humble being like myself to list from, so I'll only mention a few. The downtown core, where the industrial age buildings lie, hosts many journalism outlets, dozens smaller museums and two universities (Farrer, widely regarded as one of three top schools, and Iggulden, for its own fine arts and cinema institute). On the west side of the downtown core, which ends on Paddington and Windsor stations on the west end, lies the West End District, which has been the home of one of the Multiverse's best theatre scenes in both drama and musical theatres. In the middle lies various financial buildings, the odd ten-story skyscrapers, hotels and a couple of sporting arenas here and there, as well as the Silver Garden, home to the Regimbault and Shingoryeo Symphonies and various railway museums that border the Royal Cross and Saint-Pancras stations. Saint-Pancras station is where the international travellers from Semarland and beyond - all the way to or from Baker Park via East or West Transcalanian Railway Line- familiarise himself with. Then, on the east end, lies the famous Arlenia and Koreana West Districts. Home to the past centuries' working class and college students who live on rent-controlled apartments and houses, this was where much of the people's history were discussed, held and executed. With its vibrant nightlife scene on the Arlenia Side of the South, and Koreana West District where Jewish-Quebecois and many Quebecois of Commonwealth origins have made their homes after their arrival in late 1800s, the eatery culture is particularly well established there.

Sporting-wise, Montreal hosts almost every sports league in the country with at least a franchise, though none is so famous as Montreal Koreana itself. Founded in 1875 as an international Korean-Quebecois organisation that aims to put 'soul and body' in mind with athletics, education and servitude to the Quebecois State and the Crown, Montreal headquarters of the Koreana Society has become one of the nation's two premier pan-sport societies as well. While having a historically famous club branch in almost every sport league, Montreal Koreana has been known as of late for its dominant hockey, men's volleyball and women's basketball programs.

For the course of the playoff stage, the Calania Place (Capacity: 20,150) will be in use. Opened in 1886, the Calania Place is the oldest professional arena in Quebec still standing. It has hosted many international tournaments, including World Cups of Hockey 26, 29 and 40, IBC 17, 18 and 21, and the VWE 8 and 11, and continues to serve as the home to ice hockey team Montreal Calaniens. Over the years it has seen consistent renovations, including the most recent renovation ahead of the Quebecois Commonwealth Games, where the arena hosted its traditional basketball events as the Basketball Quebec's test event ahead of IBC 33.
The renovations saw the arena's seating capacity reduced in favour of bigger seats, new, circular jumbotron and the addition of outdoor memorial plaques and statues of sportsmen and major sporting events that have happened in this arena. With its convenient location, it is practically within walking distance of the entire Downtown, as well as the city's four of five major train terminals (Paddington, Royal Cross, Saint-Silas, Angers), and the city's downtown within easy reach.

Just 215km northeast lies the other co-hosting city in Quebec City. Located at the midway point between Fleuve Saint-Henri and the mouth of the River to the East Sea, Quebec City is the nation's capital and widely viewed as the 'Soul of the Nation'. Founded in 1504, this was where the Pierre Henri I, the founding monarch of the Jeong House, established the kingdom on a treaty between the indigenous tribes of the area, and named it 'Quebec City', a Neo Hanyang, on the meeting place of all forces of power. Like with Montreal, Quebec City quickly grew as did the Quebecois nation and subsequently the Empire, as Quebec City was the heart of the country where the intelligentsia argued about its identity, the nobility about how to survive and evolve in consistently changing world around them, and the foreign interests looking to take part in their own missions.

As the Quebecois Empire peaked in mid 1800s to early 1900s, the finest legacies of the era were often said to be 'built on Montreal, Kingston and Halifax's might, the reach of the Quebecois National Railway Company, and flowered in Quebec City'. That's why what we remember as Quebecois fin-de-siecle, one of the finest periods mentioned in history, literature art history textbooks, are so heavily focused around the city itself. Unlike Montreal, where the romanticist and ideological movements were based more around nationality and also the class, philosophical and political movements continued to remain more abstract and existential in the 'Northern Paradise', guarded by Universite St. Croix's famous Seongyoongwan University College and its constituent colleges, as well as its cafes, sporting venues (horse races, polo, Taekgyeon and Sseuireum were lot more common back then) and salons.

There was for a period of time, especially in the 1940s-1960s during which the Capitol, partly due to the divide between Quebec and Novopetrogradian Soviet Union that brought temporary cold war before their reconciliation, as well as the Post-wartime euphoria, had seemed to be frozen back in time. Unlike Montreal, however, Quebec City was able to maintain consistency in its own significance as both the Palais Royale, the Parliament and the house of all four Quebecois pillar religions (Buddhism, Anglicanism, Catholicism and Indigenous Religions) remained in the country (not that it was gonna leave anyway), and with innovative urban planning processes, Quebec City has become the seat of relevance it sought on own.

Being the heart of Quebec, the 'City of Eternal Lights' is a traveller's paradise as hundreds of museums and monuments form the city. Among them, the most popular ones are the Commonwealth Museum, the Garam Museum of National History and Northern Calania, as well as Sainte-Victoire Gallery and Royal Gallery of Quebec. The Royal Quebecois Ballet and the Quebec Philarmonic Orchestra, two largest among hundreds of classical arts organisations, are hosted in the Royal Richard Hall and Pavilion Bakhmeteff. While the nobility and haute bourgeoisie usually stays out of public celebrations and events, the city's force majorite is usually out in many festivals that dot the city's calendar - the most famous being QBC Proms that mark the city's summer. For those who come here to see some of the royal history of the city, they would also be encharmed by the Palais Royale, Sandringham Abbey and also Arlene and Richard Museum that do their best to explain the fabled history of the royals.

The Quebecois sports teams usually host at least one home series in the nation's capital's various state-of-art venues, most notably so with The Reneegrad, the new temple of Quebecois football. CSKA Quebec, the other pan-sport organisation in the country, is the major draw here (and in many sports, the only draw, due to its developmental system that incorporates the entire city), and it is cheered by Her Majesty too!

With the city's dreams, glooms and love all reflected its boulevards and the Capitoliens themselves, Quebec City hopes to welcome the visitors for a swell time in the IUBC. Located at the midway point between Fleuve Saint-Henri and the mouth of the River to the East Sea, the 'City of Eternal Lights' is a traveller's paradise as hundreds of museums and monuments form the city.
Right in heart of it is L'Arc-en-Ciel - the 21,580-seater is located on the Alexandre IV District of Quebec City, just 5 minutes walk away from Bibliotheque Nationale de Quebec on east and 10 minutes west of Parc D'Armistice, the largest urban park in the Downtown area. Located right next to the Colisee Royale, this is where CSKA Quebec, the winningest men's basketball and second-winningest women's basketball team in Quebecois history, plays its home matches.

Year in and out, it is filled to the brim, and the regular renovations and additions have continued to maintain it as a top-class venue for both domestic and international competitions. As it is expected for the LAEC to be full for every match, given the demand, Basketball Quebec is open to allocate at least 30% percent of the tickets to the participating teams' supporters.

Post 0 – The Valentians are here! Again!

Image
Image

The first IBC certainly did not break any emotions and feelings for the Valentians. Gwen and her team very well knew what they were getting into, which is also why, at least for this game, they are going to try their best to be as offensive as possible. They already tried the defensive methods, and that did not go so well with them. So, here's to them playing it offensively and using their statures as an advantage!

Just to recap, who are Gwen's Angels? For all intents and purposes, it is an unisex basketball team consisting of 15 Valentian players from all over the world. As the name suggests, they are all under the management of Gwen Tracer Allison Oxton, who also is currently a driver for NSSCRA 11 in her #31, staying consistent since NSSCRA 8. Other than that, Gwen Tracer Allison Oxton has also been part of the World Cup and Cup of Harmony that various other nations have hosted, playing it defensively for the most parts. Gwen has her own racing career to balance on top of managing a basketball team, but this season is shaping up to be fantastic for the Fate, since the NSSCRA 11 is coming to an end, meaning that Gwen can spend more time with her team and do the management.

After the implosion of the Ko-orenite Basketball League, the sport (barely) survived on small courts in big cities. Twelve clubs have emerged in a new national league, representing three urban areas. The Capital Cities (Maethoru, Mayara, Gehrenna, Senoren), Aminey (Lunay, Ouleux, Couziers/Linieux, Étouille), and Finisterre (Ferrovente, Miradela, Montelo, Serramonte). Should the league be a success (which, as proposed, doesn't contain three separate conferences but dumps all teams in one table), there are plans to restructure and expand the league. Aided by half the IBC 17 and 20 rosters, Ko-oren is back for a slow ascent up the ranks again.

TEAM INFORMATION / INFORMACION DEL EQUIPO
Consultant: Walter Laganson Picaso, 70, Male, native of Mandrid
Head Coach: Alfredo Esteban La Sala, 47, Male, native of Cebuenas
Assistant Coach: Evelia Corral Rabago, 42, Female, native of Vigano
Coaches:
Columbias Naranjo Galvez, 46, Female, native of Mascardo
Irakus Vildarrain Cruzalegui, 50, Male, native of Vallezul

TEAM ROSTER / LISTA DEL EQUIPO
#4 - C - Tuto Fallas Palomino, 24, Male, native of Mandrid - 2.08 m, 123.1 kg - Plays for Aerohispinas Royal Mandrid
Tuto Fallas is the starting center of the team. Tall and heavy, his defense is his calling card, being a big threat in the paint, and can swat shots coming into the paint. His lack of offensive awareness though allows opposing team defenders to focus on their assignments and not worry about double teaming inside the paint.

#5 - PG - Marcela Picazo Medel, 23, Female, native of Mandrid - 1.52 m, 58.9 kg - Free agent
Nimble and quick, the Mandrid native is one of the speediest guards of the team, and has eagle eye vision that can quickly spot openings in offense and defense. She lacks composure though, and at the crucial moments, would crack under pressure and give away possessions in quick succession.

#6 - SF/SG - Maria Teresa Aurelio Pereyra, 24, Female, native of Vigano - 1.76 m, 77.9 kg - Plays for Flor Blanca Vigano Baloncesto
Known for her agility inside the paint, and is the resident slasher of the team. Her IQ is so high that she usually knows when to attack the basket and when to shoot the ball... the latter skill though she does not possess and is too hot-headed to earn quick technicals and probably ejections.

#7 - PF/C - Cecilio Casias Crespo, 25, Male, native of Ciudad de Cebuenas - 1.91 m, 95.2 kg - Plays for Telebuenas FC Cebuenas Baloncesto
Go-to guy for postups and slam dunks. Has unusually a large amount of agility which contributes to his dunking ability. Is a big liability though in defense, either causing the team defensive three second violations or being caught so off position opposing teams can score that very easy basket.

#8 - SG/PG - Amatza Beicabengoechea Achaguren, 26, Female, native of Vallezul - 1.62 m, 68.1 kg - Plays for Itzal BdG Saskibaloia
Usually plays together with her twin, Ameli, in the court. one-half of the three-and-D twins, and usually provide secondary three point shooting responsibilities. Unusually self sufficient half of the twins and performs even better without her in the court. Is a big defensive liability like Casias.

#9 - PG/SG - Ameli Beicabengoechea Achaguren, 26, Female, native of Vallezul - 1.62 m, 64.4 kg - Plays for Itzal BdG Saskibaloia
Usually plays together with her twin, Amatza, in the court. one-half of the three-and-D twins, and usually provide perimeter defense responsibilities. Will not play in the court unless her twin is also in the court. Her unusually fetish of shooting and bricking threes is the main cause of her not given the starting nod.

#10 - PF/SF - Xalvador Aguila Nieto, 23, Male, native of Punta de Malklan - 1.84 m, 86.5 kg - Free agent
Is the shooting big man of the roster. He can efficiently do the pick and pop to shoot perimeter shots. Is mediocre in defense, and is woefully awful in inside offense that he has a 25 percent conversion rate on open, unguarded layups.

#11 - SF - Estebe Eguiralde Chazarra, 24, Male, native of Vallezul - 1.72 m, 75.4 kg - Plays for Itzal BdG Saskibaloia
Has good defensive capabilities and is can be relied upon on clutch situations... offensively. He usually starts the game very cold on offense but can swat shots in a fly. But on the closing moments of the game, he cannot defend players but can catch a hot streak offensively.

#12 - SG - Cergio Arebalo Malagon, 25, Male, native of Mandrid - 1.69 m, 68.5 kg - Plays for Aerohispinas Royal Mandrid
Is the only player in the roster that has little to no weakness for his position. He is a deadeye spot shooter and can shoot anywhere in the perimeter area. Is speedy enough to do occasional slashes. His little weakness is that he is much an injury prone player and can miss from minutes to half a season/tournament, even worse, an entire season.

#13 - PF/SF - Herensuge Arranz Osacar, 19, Male, native of Vallezul - 1.73 m, 69.6 kg - Plays for Basko Unibertsitatea

#14 - SG/PG - Gervasio Ramon Llano, 22, Male, native of Mandrid - 1.61 m, 63.2 kg - Plays for Instituto de Tecnologia de Mandrid

#15 - C - Manolo Murga Maya, 24, Male, native of Ciudad de Cebuenas - 1.99 m, 102.3 kg - Plays for Telebuenas FC Cebuenas Baloncesto
Was formerly playing football as a defender, but switched to basketball due to excessive intentional handballs causing his local team to disown him. His natives would be surprised why he was included in the team as when he switched to basketball, he committed a lot of kick ball violations instead, disowning him further from the local team. In his best can provide excellent defense, at worst can commit multiple kick ball violations and ejections due to kicking players also.

OOC: Bolded members are respective starters from either team.

The 2050-51 QBL and QWBL season comes handy when reading this RP, as well as the 2051-52 QBL and QWBL seasons. For rosterinating purposes former was used, but latter may come handy if you want to have a rough gauge of the players' performances while also in IBC qualifying round.

Quebec and Shingoryeo Men's and Women's National Basketball Teams - IBC 33

The Basketball Quebec, in continuation of its practice also shared by Royal Quebecois Volleyball Federation (RQVF) and Royal Quebecois Football Association (RQFA), is proud to continue its practice of sending mixed teams with expanded rosters to international competitions, even as the QBL and the QWBL gender-separated. In regards to their opponents' preferences to play the men, women or mixed teams, will remain flexible in advanced consultation with their opponents (OOC: please read my team information right below).

Quebecois Basketball In Nutshell

Considered to be one of the 'Big 3' of indoor sports played in Quebecois winters (Basketball, Hockey and Volleyball, while Handball are summer sport here), basketball is an extremely popular, well-loved sport in Quebec. With massive attention given to both teams, and all levels of basketball being watched from high school to international stage, the Quebecois are expected to bring the fire and fury to their cheering and jeering game.

After looking at the roster, you may have noticed that the Quebecois national teams are...slightly bigger than usual, with Quebecois women being taller than average and men shorter, even though neither are really Drawkians to start with. There is nothing to deny about how the talent disparity exists between the Quebecois women, one of the best (if not the best) program in Multiverse right now, and the men, who would be at their best in top 20, and that's the way of life.

That said, for where they lack in particular height, the Grim Reapers make up for it with tactical versatility, power and strength, and not to mention their ability to maximise rotations. The previously-mentioned disparity of talent between the Quebecois men and the women, as well as the international basketball scene's tendency to have predominant number of national teams be mostly male, had influenced the Quebecois brand of double-squading their tournaments. This means that regardless of how it works, even twenty-four players on the rotation are expected to get significant minutes. This is particularly evident in the group stage, where the Quebecois have almost always experimented with any format, and often key starters are rested whenever possible. Once the Quebecois national team enters the elimination round (or in the case of IBC 31, second group stage), the rotation tends to shrink to around 11 or 12.

For this international basketball cycle, the Basketball Quebec will be sending their full national teams thanks to the lack of conflict with other international competitions in this sport. The Men's and Women's CommonwealthBasket, officially known as the Quebecois Commonwealth Basketball Championships, was already held in August/September prior to the start of the IBC qualifying rounds, and the CommLeague and IUBC matches were scheduled in the alternating weeks of the regular season to avoid conflict with international windows. While vast majority of the team have stayed the same, the slight difference in personnels and starting lineups for the Quebecois men and the women should provide this team enough of a challenge that Basketball Quebec hope to respond well. Please see here for domestic-international calendar.

Quebecois Men - Keep Pressing

Yes, the Quebecois men suck at basketball. Even in their best days (IBC 18-21) they were at best a top 15 program, and now this men's program is located in the twenties that have lot more to improve upon. Fortunately, they have been getting better at developing talent, and the potential of the men's team continues to be highly rated with the Grim Reapers men competing well in the previous IBC cycle where they 1) played the three-time defending champions to a last-minute thriller on the Quebec-Banija SuperSeries, 2) swept group winners Equestria, and 3) played the second-ranked TJUN-ia to brink, even if they may have fallen short on the second round. So perhaps the talent trajectory's looking up for once.

This Quebecois team, of course, is undersized and needs greater attention to detail. Unlike the Quebecois women, who have shifted towards defence, teamwork and of course the emphasis on physicality, the Quebecois men have continued to define themselves with the flashy, athletic style they have come to make themselves known over the past hundred years of basketball. This, just following the trends of the international basketball, mean that they will be able to conjure up any difficult pass, shoot from halfcourt, or profit off fastbreaks, but they may fall short on rebounds, make occasional errors, and not to mention hold onto ball for too long. The Quebecois national team coaching staff, with the improvement of the junior and youth national team programs, hopes this trend will reverse for the better, but the progress is slow and painful for all.

The team's offence will be dictated by Bahng Se-Woong, with the superstar point guard being expected to contribute more on assists and on defensive front, where his 193cm frame comes handy, than scoring three-pointers this time around. This is not because of how his style has shifted, but more or less due to Frank Briere-Bourque's injury that takes away a major option on the 1 spot for this Grim Reapers' team. Bahng, whose reliability has improved over the years, is one of the likelihoods for the MVP back in the Quebecois Basketball League and he hopes that this would translate into possible gigs abroad if they come around.

The backcourt star, however, will be Kenneth Kim-Asfaw. The Western Rifles combo guard is more of a point guard or even combo guard than traditional dual guards the men's team would rather have, but with Jeong 'The Solution' Seung-Hyeon's defensive problems being exposed back in the previous IBC cycle, Grim Reapers' GM Jean-Gabriel Watt and coach Edouard-Noel Halbert has decided to place him on the 2 spot instead. It makes sense, considering his expertise in slashing and dashing his way to space the Grim Reapers against key oppositions. Nobody denies that Kenneth Kim-Asfaw has only gotten better with handling contact and teamplay since his move to GBC franchise Kyrkdorf Tungsten Miners, so there's a bit of that anticipation to go about.

If the guard positions are where the Grim Reapers are known for, the forward positions are where they can improve. Neither Daniel Ibaniyama nor Matthieu Kabengele, previous cycle's starters on this position, return to the 12-man squad, a sign that the two stars' aging, a shocker to many after the duo's excellent performance during their twenties, have been taken into account with national team selection (though Ibaniyama is still around). Replacing the two as starters will be young Koreana star Mathieu-Abel Park and wild physical specimen in Moustapha Niang. Park's an aggressive forward whose acrobatic footwork and jumper are spot-on, while Niang prefers to attack the insides with solid postups and paceups. If there's one thing they need to improve, however, is zone defence, and whether they can implement them will determine the success of men's team performance on the joint game that is IBC basketball.

In the middle should stand the centre duo of Noh Seung-Hoon and Yves-Antoine Masson, two centres with stylistic differences. Noh Seung-Hoon earns the starting position through great defensive IQ and good three-pointers, which gives the Grim Reapers offensive flexibility, but he needs to get better scoring through the paint. Yves-Antoine Masson, on the other hand, fits the nickname of 'Enes Kanter' - an offensive phenomenon who can work with any guard on 2:2 play, pick and roll or pick and pop, but whose defence is less than desire as well. Both centres serve different purposes to the team and with Masson's height covering for limited speed on the IBC-IUBC Rules (OOC: FIBA rules) unlike the Banijan-Hannasean rules (NBA rules, which are used on Northwest Kalactin's modifiers for Xkoranate basketball), coach Halbert is expected to not overload Noh as much as his predecessor had done so with Noh and before that Drummond.

Also, backing them up are a range of solid backup options who play certain roles on this team. Among those, their strengths lie in the swing players with Alexandre Armanet, Jeong Seung-Hyeon and Zamani Siwele being key pieces, especially on a smaller lineup where their individual skills alone can make a difference. Michel Descloux is also going to receive substantial playing time due to his reliability, something that Bahng lacks at times, while Masson, Callaghan-McKee and Ghazemi will be able to serve as warm bodies.

Quebecois Women - Re:20.52

The different story, however, can be said towards the Quebecois women, as arguably one of top 2-3 (if not the number one) women's basketball program in the Multiverse once again return to headline the roster. Dominant olympic performance by the Under-25 national team, where they made it all the way to the final before losing to San Ortelio on a 37-point finish by upcoming QWBL MVP Xenia Dall'Antonia, and yet another gold medal performance at the Quebecois Commonwealth Games were more than enough to present how on-form this talent may be in providing the Grim Reapers what they need, to make up for the men's team's deficiencies.

CSKA Quebec's Riley Jeon-Keane, the greatest centre (and even basketballer) in Quebecois basketball history, is back to coach the Grim Reapers women for the tournament, with Arianna Ceciliani, the mastermind behind the silver medal run last summer in Bunjil, Electrum, continuing to serve as the leading assistant. The two legends, who have played on the Golden Age of Quebecois women's basketball as players themselves, continue to emphasise height and teamwork into the game, and will not use the height deficiencies against male sides as an excuse.

Their squad sees a fair bit of turnover from the veteran ladden IBC 32 team, as the scheduling of CommLeague and the Commonwealth Games gave them no limitation to call up the players for the training camp as needed. Unfortunately, a couple of major injuries during the training camp and the Commonwealth Games, as well as other off-court news, have meant that a couple of key blocks to the team would not be able to play in the upcoming qualifiers, which had meant that the coaching staff would be working with a somewhat different combination of women than ideal.

Regardless, it's still a very good Team Quebec here. 9 players from the last cycle's team return, and they are nicely complemented by a solid core of players from the Olympic Team who, while relatively young in age and metrics, have gathered valuable experience and shown their calibre of play in the silver-medal run back in last year's olympics. They have gotten even younger, featuring 8 players aged at or under 25, and with only Bae Seung-Yoon and Abigail Corelli going above the thirty mark. While this squad does not have the glitter and height of the previous squad that had the services of Heo Myeong-Yoon (185cm point guard is very valuable on women's game) and Yim Se-Ryeong (this 201cm centre is as close to Riley Jeon-Keane as possible nowadays).

Over the course of past fifty years, the Quebecois women's basketball has transformed style wise, as what used to be a primarily undersized, run-and-gun and finesse-driven Team Quebec (OOC: up to IBC 18-20, let's say, and I do have a fair bit of retcon to there) transformed into one with particular advantage on height, power and most importantly defence. As always, the teamwork's been emphasised lot more on the women's program where the age-level teams meet lot more often than men, and the emphasis on non-stop passes, selfless screens and zone defensive reads being prioritised. Of course, this doesn't mean that the Quebecois women don't know how to beat players through isolation or other skill-by-skill plays, and we've seen them excel on that department too!

The absence of Heo Myeong-Yoon, who has taken this international cycle off to have a child at the end of this year (OOC: mid-qualifying cycle in my time), and Yim Se-Ryeong's injury had meant that much of what the scouts and opposition coaches had written for the Grim Reapers' women be scrappd and rewritten. While the guard position has been the one of strength for the Quebecois in past, it will be on the forward positions where the Quebecois will be dictating both their offence and defence around, especially without major absences in the 1 position (2 is fine, but only because of lack of turnovers there).

Starting on the three will be Hazel Hanson-Conavacio. Nobody denies that the 26-year old daughter of Leonardo Conavacio and Claire Hanson is the best Quebecois woman to have played small forward in history. The three-time MVP and seven-time first-teamer is a tall, lanky forward with point guard soul and ability to finish the rim off, and her status as a Quebecois icon, propelled by her longtime friendship and rivalry with Heo Myeong-Yoon, puts her at the very top of the list. Right beside her on the power forward is Diane Dunn-Chalifoux, as the tall forward-centre earned the starting spot over Jin Chang-Sook on the merits of positional flexibility. Diane is a flexible defender whose wingspan and block timing come particularly handy, and her quickness on feet is useful for this team that does not have Yim Se-Ryeong on this team.

But this is the team that doesn't rely so much on its starters, and this is particularly the case with backup forwards out there. Diane is expected to split minutes with Jin Chang-Sook, an all-arounded hustler from Zenit Attawapiskat whose floaters and power make her a valuable, sixth-woman option on this team. While the olympic all-star, who averaged around 20 points of scoring in last summer's tournament, would be a starter under most years, she is expected to play the role of sixth-woman where Jin, as someone who can execute attacks anywhere from point guard (the 1) to power forward (the 4). She is complemented well by Yi Hye-Ryeong on the 3 spot- the Fort Lowe Rattlers forward, whose mid-range shot is the weapon of choice, isn't the flashiest of the players, but she is a dynamic player who is hard to beat on both man-on-man and zone matchups.

On the guards there is a bit of instability out there, and that's where the Quebecois women will have to be careful in handling the personnel issues. Point guard, in particular, is where they have a major dilemma. After a decade of brilliance by Heo Myeong-Yoon, an active legend in this game whose BQ is only rivalled by none other than Allison Dubois and Soh Ji-Hyeon (widely reputed to be the greatest Quebecois point guard, who has played back in the 1990s and the 2000s), the Grim Reapers have a clear void they have to figure out, as they have to run with point guards who can shoot and pass well, but don't necessarily have the height or the defence of Heo or before that Dubois. Helene Dion-Kweon is a tricky option to use as starter, as the undersized point guard lacks defensive presence, but she is an excellent facilitator who, when not put under overload mode like how Hamilton SonicBoom has done so for past four years, will give you what your team needs. An Hye-Mi, on the other hand, is more conservative choice at the 1-spot- she can both score and defend reliably, but you would not be awed by her play as much.

As for the shooting guard position, there's a bit of stability to go around this time as Abigail Corelli and Elle Allen-Conroy return to the national team. As longtime mainstays in the position that's mainly viewed as the weakest and most turnover-prone (lots of personnel changes, not necessarily turnovers within games) out of five among the Quebecois women, this is always a good news. Abigail Corelli is a sharpshooter who struggled a lot during most of her twenties, but has since become a clear scoring option on the outside. While the Mipojoseon player, who has never been short of comments and controversies (most notably in her Simmons-esque saga that resulted in a trade from Winnipeg Winterhawks to her current club), isn't the easiest to handle, she has the killer instinct that will get the team where needed. Elle Allen-Conroy, on the other hand, is a slasher who knows how to finish on the frontcourt, but she is not afraid to play the role of villain and will be first to aid An or Dion-Kweon on defence. Finally, just behind the two on the roster is June Chavez Mayberry. The explosive combo guard at Mount Ester University, like how Heo Myeong-Yoon had did so a decade ago, has swept every collegiate honour possible en route to the Lancers' undefeated championship season and is viewed by many as the next superstar in making.

Finally, in the middle consist of centres. This is one position the Grim Reapers always held advantage in numbers, height and utilisation, and that expects to continue into this cycle as well. Highly experienced Bae Seung-Yoon, who was named the Grim Reapers' captain ahead of this IBC qualifier, is an excellent rebounder and very good passer who prefers to pass it up to guards waiting at the corner. With Yim Se-Ryeong being absent for the next year or so due to an ACL injury, Bae is expected to handle the load more carefully. Right behind her on the depth chart are too capable centres in Taylor Anne Rowsell and Tamara Ellerslie. Both Ellerslie and Rowsell maintain good scoring touch, but it is on defence where they differ as the taller Ellerslie is better with handling inside play, where Rowsell is much stronger with spacing and blocking pass-ways. Thus, it is certainly possible that on a big lineup, especially against more physically-imposing teams, any of the three and/or Diane Dunn-Chalifoux will be used as a pair to generate twin towers, with the probable pairing to be Chalifoux-Ellerslie and Bae-Rowsell.

The meeting with Incorporated Basketball Federation Chairwoman Lynn Trask didn't go as Thomas Manningham expected.

That was a good thing.

Manningham expected to be given a pink slip following Sarzonia's elimination at the hands of rivals Banija in the Round of Sixteen in the 32nd International Basketball Championships. In fact, he'd prepared a statement where he was going to thank the IBC for giving him the opportunity to coach international basketball, thank his players and his assistant coaches. He'd prepared a text to assistant manager Mario Bengtsen where he was going to try talking him into taking the job if offered. He didn't want to leave the Stars, but he felt the results weren't what he, or Sarzonia wanted.

Instead of a pink slip, though, Trask offered a contract extension. She was happy with the way the team responded to adversity in IBC 31 after her predecessor did give Manningham his walking papers. She was pleased with the way the team battled back to a knockout round position and into a rivalry matchup against the Lions, even though it ended with a decisive victory for Isaiah Lavaga's bunch over Manningham and company. There was no talk, no intimation that this would be Manningham's last IBC either.

"Thomas Manningham is our manager," Trask said at a press conference. "I made that clear to him today. It's his team, and we will go on with that assumption in mind."

The Stars will return to IBC 33 with the team intact, including Bengtsen and assistant managers Joy Knight and Kyle Trenton. Manningham would find out later that if he had been terminated as manager that Bengtsen would have also walked. In fact, Bengtsen had written out a retirement statement and was about to deliver it if he'd gotten word that Manningham was out. But since Manningham would be back, so, too would Bengtsen.

"I'm not going to be part of this without Tom," Bengtsen said. "I have no aspirations to manage anywhere. Not here, not anywhere else. I'll fill in for Tom if we need it, but I won't take his job."

Manningham returns to the fold with Mike West, by far the best player on the Stars, firmly entrenched in the starting lineup. He said he wanted to open up the offence to ensure that all four other starters get more looks at the basket, but added he hoped small forward Harold Blevins stepped up in particular.

"He's a strong third option in this offence," Manningham said. "I want him to become a stronger complementary force for Mike."

Manningham said he hoped to have Mike West's father, legendary Sarzonia manager Henry West pay a visit to the current team.

"It'd be great as a way to pass the torch," Manningham said. "He's been battling a few things health-wise and it's great to see him back up and at 'em."

Nova Anglicana Lions National Basketball Team

Offensive Style: Death Lineup/Small Ball/Versatile/Pace and Space
Defensive Style: Press/Junk
Style Modifier (if applicable): +3.5
Captain: Matty Stewart
Colors: Red and White Home, Blue and White Away
Arena: National Arena (doubles as hockey stadium)
Arena Location: Londinium
Arena Capacity: 14,000
Head Coach: Lawrence Roberts
Assistant Coaches: Mark Long, Brad Walsh

Roster

Starters

G #3 Matty Stewart, 6'0, 31 - decent jumper but real game is driving and dropping dimes, tenacious on D despite being somewhat undersized
G #8 Jimmy Haynes, 6'5, 31 - combo guard who can slide to the three if necessary, deadly from 3-point land, weaker on D, but great pace
G #12 Reggie LaPointe, 6'5, 30 - another gunner on this team, LaPointe also overpowers smaller guards and can handle himself on D against 3s or small 4s
F #25 Colin Klein, 6'7, 32 - impossibly quick for his size, breaks down defenses on the dribble and incredibly versatile on defense
F #27 Alain Colbert, 6'8, 30 - Colbert is a classic "stretch 4" with a good jumper, long arms harass both bigger and smaller players on defense

Reserves
G #14 Patrice Broussard, 6'4, 33 - good long-range shooter, but not afraid to mix it up and grab rebounds
G #35 Clement Villeneuve, 6'5, 24 - a pure catch-and-shoot guy, needs to work on his defense, but has a knack for getting open
G #17 Rex McKinney, 6'6, 28 - you might think he's a bit oversized for a guard, but he's slender and quick, annoying on defense, especially against smaller player
G #10 Duncan Muir, 6'2, 25 - backup point guard is a slasher, has great awareness on the court, but can be outmuscled on defense
F #32 Philip Meyer, 6'8, 24 - absolute grinder down below, cleans up around the net, great rebounder on offense and defense
F #22 Cory Montgomery, 6'6, 32 - it's bombs away from outside for this small forward, a 3-and-D type player, but can create his own shot too
C #48 Jamie Brooks, 7'1, 33 - Brooks is a classic #5/center for the times when the Lions really need one of those, offensive game is only average, but a formidable presence on defense

Playing Style

The Lions continue their small ball lineup, with no player in the starting lineup and only one player on the entire team taller than 6'8. They want to spread the floor and force opponents to switch on defense to either create bad matchups for driving past taller, slower players, or shooting 3s over smaller defenders. They run whenever possible, and try to use their superior pace and stamina to wear out opposing defenses. They can drive, but their true strength is outside shooting. On defense, it starts with a 1-2-1-1 3/4 to full-court zone press that attempts to wear down opposing offenses, force them to burn the shot clock before setting up their offense, and to create turnovers. If the press fails, they typically fall back into a 2-3 matchup zone as the basic defense. However, the defense typically changes several times during the game, with the Lions showing a 3-2 against better shooting teams, a 1-3-1 if they want to trap and cause havoc, a triangle-and-two with Klein and Colbert glued to the two best players, a box-and-one with Matty Stewart in the terrier role chasing all over the court, or even a man-to-man if the situation calls for it. They also substitute frequently to maintain the pace of play and adapt their defense to the personnel they have and the opponents' personnel. It's a smart and athletic team, if not a particularly big one.

PARK Jung-Hyuk is the face of Chromatik basketball as the team tries to cement its status as one of the mainstays of the world despite the CBA not running last season due to player safety concerns. Park was the reason the Penguins won a playoff game at all, and is the player that ultimately runs the show. He does have LIA Xiu as a primary scorer alongside him, she who is the face of Chromatik basketball from the female side. She can utterly take over a game, and will be counted on to do so. Anidra ROXANOFF has emerged as a good tertiary scoring threat as well as the team's leading rebounder, and she knows how to size up her opposition despite giving up a few inches; Natalie SWANSON is the defensive stalwart. Maude ZWAHEIL is the big body that leads the team in blocks and also puts up solid minutes in defense. Ideally, Park runs the show, Lia scores with Roxanoff chipping in, and Swanson and Zwaheil cleans up the boards while helping on the defensive side.

The emergence of Hera GANT as secondary Point Guard is a huge storyline this campaign as the team tries to manage Park's minutes. Gant is more of a assist first point guard but has a neat baseline jumper. Jericho SAND is the team's three-point specialist, favoring the left side; if he can get hot off the bench, he can really put the game away. Sheri GADDON is the defensive specialist, while Frederico PASCETTI is more of the all-rounder and newcomer Erik KASSHEIM prides himself in being a Center who has a 71% career free throw percentage.

Jordan MERKOFF and Howard DWYER round out the roster, Merkoff being the one with relentless stamina while Dwyer is more of the pure shooting threat. There was talk about expanding the roster beyond twelve, but it was shot down after the CBA didn't have a season. With the future of Chromatik basketball in the balance, it will be interesting to see how the Penguins portray the state of the game at the moment.

Strategy:
The Chromatik Team focuses on solid ball-handling and clean transition play, with an emphasis on always running the clock down whenever possible. This means that there aren't as many fast breaks, instead focusing on time of possession and making every possession count. They plan a zone on defense, and are rather good at deflecting shots but not very good at causing turnovers. This team's tentative goal is to make the playoffs.
Schedule:
MD01: vs. (UR) Moliza
MD02: vs. (17) Mytanija
MD03: @ (26) Crystal Empire
MD04: vs. (30) Southwest Eastnorth
MD05: @ (UR) Ardengard
MD06: @ (UR) Moliza
MD07: @ (17) Mytanija
MD08: vs. (26) Crystal Empire
MD09: @ (30) Southwest Eastnorth
MD10: vs. (UR) Ardengard
This is a rather straightforward group on paper - two go to the Round of Sixteen, and Mytanija are the overwhelming rival for Chromatika. There is a three-game road trip in the middle that the Penguins will have to be mindful of, as both Ardengard and Moliza will try to trip them up before the team faces Mytanija the second time. Notably, Chromatika defeated Mytanija in the Round of Sixteen in the last IBC to reach the Quarterfinals, where they were trounced by eventual champions Banija. The Mytanars will be bent on revenge, and the Penguins must not have that matchup be the reason why they take overlook the other teams in the group.

HOME STADIUM (The Fleftic Arena, Riuwiee)
Image
Presenting the Fleftic Arena, the largest indoor arena by seating capacity in the Democratic Republic of Abanhfleft

Situated in the north of Abanhfleft's capital city of Riuwiee is the National Sports Park, a 140-hectare "special national designated area" in which a majority of Riuwiee's sporting facilities are located. Standing out among the stadia and gymnasia is the massive and imposing structure and flat roof of the Fleftic Arena, officially the largest indoor stadium in the whole of Abanhfleft with its official stated capacity of 100,786 seated spectators for indoor sports. The structure broke ground on September 26, 2009 as part of the capital city's reconstruction efforts following the aftermath of the Holy Catholic Revolution of 2008 which left nearly the entirety of Riuwiee devastated, and construction was completed over three years later in 2012. The Fleftic Arena is the official home arena of the Abanhfleft national basketball team and has played host to dozens of matches during the International Basketball Championships. Aside from that, the Riuwiee Presidents of the Fleftic Basketball Association occasionally uses the Fleftic Arena as its home stadium when it plays marquee match-ups against well-known teams from the league such as the Malabon Black Ops or the Markovsky Red Army, taking advantage of the arena's huge capacity when the capacity of their usual home stadium, the Sterling Arena, is deemed to be not enough for games of such popularity. Aside from that, the Fleftic Arena has also played host to at least four FBA All-Star Weekends since its inauguration and opening in 2012.

As for the stadium's location, Riuwiee is the capital city of Abanhfleft and is home to over 20 million people. The Fleftic people are very crazy and passionate about basketball, and even though their home side the Riuwiee Presidents has been disappointing in the FBA as of late, the fans still come out in droves to support and cheer for their team.

PEMECUTAN NATIONAL TEAM for IBC 33

Overview

Basketball have been the third/fourth popular sports in Pemecutan (the review vary between several poll and Basketball rivaling Sepak Takraw for the third place). And in this 33rd edition of International Basketball Championships, Pemecutan once again put their luck. In the past 4 editions that they have competed in, Pemecutan have always finished in the Group Stage. And for this event, PBA (Pemecutan Basketball Association) as the governing body of basketball in the country has decided to sent their men's national team just like the previous edition. The team's squad is the same as the squad that was selected for the XV Summer Olympics where Pemecutan stopped at Round of 16. The management and fans hoping that the team can replicate their success in the Olympic.

In common with other Græntfjaller teams, the Super Wolves have size and strength – but not pace or skill. They are also, how to put this delicately: a team of “scrappy gym rats”. Now to put it indelicately: they’re painfully white. Tom Farmasson is mainly a slasher but shoots well from the line and is an excellent perimeter defender with great size for his position; the offense runs through Galti Fossmarsson, a three point shooter with a more rounded game. Henning Sandelsson is a genuinely great rebounder: while not an offensive standout, his ability to read play and crash the boards is unrivalled despite his modest size. Antoníus Lorisson is a capable spot-up shooter and solid defender. Benjamin Iirosson is the big man up front, without the greatest hands but a good enough free throw shooter to stay on court at the end, where his defensive prowess is valuable. The bench are mainly stretch bigs.

Group stage games
Image

In the absence of a single dedicated national arena, games will be played around the country. It is currently spring in Græntfjall; basketball is a winter sport here so the GBC arenas are not in use. Græntfjaller springs tend to be cool and wet; there will still be snow on the ground but precipitation is increasingly falling as rain. Græntfjallers are welcoming of foreign tourists, but mostly to wring every króna out of their pocket; accepting of female and non-human players (if they might get a stare or two); and enthusiastic but not wholly knowledgeable basketball fans.

MD1 v The Orion Islands: Florus Basketball Arena [non-commercial name: Altendalur Basketball Arena]
Altendalur is Græntfjall’s westernmost city. An industrial powerhouse with a large working class population, pretty unreconstructed from the Communist days from which it not-so-secretly still pines, vanguard of the western schism that hates the easterners. It’s the warmest city (which is not saying all that much) and visitors might be able to survive with only two or three coats on. The Florus Basketball Arena is a new, purpose-built arena, very modern, home to the GBC title winners the Western Rifles.
MD2 v Nova Anglicana: Grander International Arena
Steinaux, Háttmark, does not have a new GBC franchise. The arena is big, modern, slightly soulless. Perfectly Steinaux, then.
MD4 v Valentine Z: Royal & Imperial Recreation Club Arena
The historic arena in the capital, Háttmark, got a makeover when the new GBC franchise the Blizzards decided to locate there, bringing a splashy modern sensibility to a fusty old relic of 19th century sporting traditions. So under fencing trophies and regatta banners, teams scrap for rebounds and buzzer-beaters. This arena hosted the final of IBC30.
MD8 v Kohnhead: Estdal Super Park
Estdal is the great southeastern city and gateway to the Rushmori interior. The province of Árberg hosts the Ice-Pandas, one of the rising franchises of the new GBC, but the arena itself is somewhat less than super, being a relatively shabby multi-sports park built into a semi-defunct shopping mall complex.
MD10 v United Adaikes: Kyrkdorf MSK Arena
Kyrkdorf is a city at the foothills of the Græntfjaller Alps, which dominate the southern half of the country. It was home to the most successful basketball team in the country in the old GSL; the Tungsten Miners have been unable to replicate their success in the new GBC. The Kyrkdorf MSK Arena is small but newly refurbished.

TROLLEBORG NATIONAL BASKETBALL TEAM

National basketball team is such a phenomenon to which no one in sporting Trolleborg is indifferent. This is due to their long list of failures and longevity at the same time. It’s known, that in Trolleborg regularly underperformance in some sport in the international arena usually entails dissolution of the team. But basketballers somehow succeed in both underperforming and stay alive. But it was rumoured, that this tournament is their last chance to prove themselves to be something else than burden and source of grief for Trolleborg citizens.

Greetings, compatriots! It’s TTV with a most recent news about our national basketball teams, just gearing for the World Basketball Cup.

After string of bad results in the first half of the most recent world championship, including loses at home to the newbie teams, basketball world of Trolleborg somehow succeed in recruting none other than Trolleborg national leader Vladimir Finn to try to save situation. First his game was victory against heavy favourites Graintfjall, and after that Trolleborg basketball players won three games in row – all this, understandably, give a high hopes for the basketball fans of the country. But after that team are lost five other games, including, again, to the newbies at home. Due to the fact that in these game we all see a chain of very strange mistakes by referees and other officials, at the time general public put the blame for this at cup hosts Chromatika and suspect some sort of plot, conspiracy or else against team. At one of the game things go around in such a scandalous manner, that there was almost a riot by fans. National leader make a lot of efforts to calm waters at these tense times. And as new tournament looms, he again was voted to lead team, probably with a memories of four victories last season and with a “if he don’t succeed, probably no one too” in mind. This time while at the helm he changed good third of the team, usually moving older players onto reserve, making place mostly for fast youngsters. However, given that, he, to the much surprise, decide to leave both aged players on the SF position.

It was expected that team will play fast attractive basketball with a empasis on the teamwork. Unlike usual practice and protocol in Trolleborg, it was not announced, where team will play home games, Vladimir Finn decide to set venues one at a time and expressed desire to play at the every big city. And he decide against needless exposure team to the press and throughout media coverage of the team every step, directing them to cover mostly the games as such.

As opponents we have, first of all, TJUN-ia, whom our basketball team meet at two latest tournaments. Jaguars booted our team at the group stage of 30th World Cup edition in Graintfjall, and proceed to the top of the world hierarchy, where they sit right now. Two teams of our groups is known to the dedicated sport fans – with Hannasea our sportsmans play water polo at Olympics (and lost) and Pemecutan we see playing with our football team at Melayu Cup. Essena and StrayaRoss two new teams, altough they already are staked claim to fame.

OOC: As you may have read from my roster and league RPs, the most recently submitted QBL season runs alongside the IBC 33 group stage. This is done to take account into shorter turnaround time between IUBC 22 (held in mid-late August) and IUBC 23 (most recent one that just finished yesterday), which would give a short IC turnaround time of one year compared to usual two year gap. At least in my time that is - you don't have to do it that way as well.

QBC SPORTS ANNOUNCE 2051-52 BASKETBALL BROADCASTING SCHEDULE, TEAM

July 17, 2051

QUEBEC CITY, CAPITALE-NATIONALE - With one month to go before the start of the international basketball season, the QBC Sports have announced today that both the Quebecois matches of the 22nd IUBC Trophy Competition and the International Basketball Championships 33 to be broadcasted nationally on the QBC Sports and its related channels.
The agreement, signed between the QBC and Basketball Quebec (BQ), will commence this mid-September and end just under a year later, with the conclusion of the IBC 33, which will be held in Bollonich and Quebec & Shingoryeo next August.

The first IUBC match under this year's contract will feature the QBL and QWBL finalists CSKA Quebec welcoming the MKA-Liga champions Košarka Esca, at L'Arc-en-Ciel, Quebec City at 20:30 Quebecois Central Time (21:30 Quebecois Atlantic Time/20:30 Quebecois Salamantic Time) on Thursday, 21st of September 2051. While the IUBC group stage is expected to run over the course of a conventional fall-spring season schedule, the playoffs, to be held in Palacio de Reino de Hispinas, Mandrid, Hispinas will be held over early-mid June. The QBC will announce the exact broadcasting schedule for the IUBC playoffs once the update is given by the IUBC board, based in Canterlot, Equestria.

The QBC Sports' broadcasting schedule will then be followed by their coverage of the International Basketball Championships 33, where the QBC Sports+ will be broadcasting all the Grim Reapers' matches live, but also cover selected matches of the other qualifying rounds. Some of the other games scheduled into the rotation so far include a Chromatika-Mytanija rival showdown at the Anomaly Tower, Chromia, in mid-November, 3rd-ranked Valanora travelling to The Palestra, Woodstock, to face Sarzonia in early February, and a Gatchingerrak Union visit to Istria, Banija, at the final week of qualifying rounds on the second week of July. The Basketball Quebec and the Bollonischian Basketball Association, in coordination with the International Basketball Organisation, will announce the exact dates of the qualifying stage matches in months to come.

The QBC also announced the nationwide and regional on-air talent who will present to Quebec, Anaia and the world the excitement of the Quebecois basketball and the International Basketball Championships 33 to viewers across the Multiverse:

Samuel Shim-Mota will be the play-by-play commentator, alongside the Grim Reapers' legends Allison Dubois and Alex Kigab who will be returning to the QBC as colour commentators for the IBC matches. For the IUBC matches, Jean-Luc Morson and Myron Traer-Westbeld will be providing colour commentary alongside Veronique Raulhe-Kipembe the colour commentator. The commentator panels will then be joined by Noh Gook-Seong, Jang Ye-Gyeong and Micah Levin-Wentworth as sideline reporters. QBC 'Basketball Tonight' hosts Wu Mingjie and Alexander Swann-McDonagh will be hosts for the live broadcasts, with their schedule to be announced in due time.

For the fans who will not be able to access the matches in television, or whose matches aren't available via regular QBC spots programming, do not worry! The fans will be able to livestream and re-watch all the group stage and playoff matches for both competitions on the QBCsports.que, the QBC sports app for cellular devices, VousTube and RougeTube, with additional modes available via IUBC and Bollonischian broadcasters. Broadcast teams for the live streams will be made available in due time.

Henry West, former Stars hoops coach, dies at 66

From Staff Reports

Henry West, the first coach of the Sarzonian national basketball team, who led the team to seven consecutive International Basketball Championships finals and won four titles during that span, died following an extended illness last night. He was 66.

West was the Stars manager during the team's first foray into the IBC, guiding the Stars to titles in the third edition and then three consecutive titles in the seventh, eighth and ninth editions. His teams lost three straight finals from the fourth through the sixth editions. The team battled with Newmanistan for the title of the most successful, most dominant team in the IBC for several editions.

Sarzonia were so dominant after the ninth edition that the Stars retained their world No. 1 ranking after the 10th edition even though Sarzonia did not field a team. The Stars returned in IBC 11 under West's longtime assistant Matt Walton and lost to They Who Shall Not Be Named in the finals.

"Henry West was an absolute giant in the game of basketball," said current Stars manager Thomas Manningham. "He was such a hugely important figure in the Sarzonian sporting landscape. His loss will be felt for many years to come." Manningham said he granted guard Mike West's request for bereavement leave. Mike West is Henry West's youngest son.

Incorporated Basketball Federation chairwoman Lynn Trask said there would be a moment of silence before the team's opening match at The Palestra against Brookstation. She said she would ask for the court at The Palestra to be named Henry West Court at The Palestra.

"Henry West helped put basketball on the map in this country. He helped give the sport its stature in the multiverse sporting landscape," she said. "We are heartbroken for Mike West and for everyone Henry West touched." Trask said the team would have the initials HAW for his full name Henry Alan West stitched into their kits in his memory.

Woodstock Mayor Claudia Alta announced that flags around the city would fly at half mast. She also said she would ask the city to rename The Palestra after Henry West. The measure is widely expected to receive unanimous approval. She also announced that the bust of West that had been kept in a museum at the Dave Wilson Athletic Complex would be moved to the front entrance of the arena in honour of him and his accomplishments.

"Henry West is a transcendent figure in Sarzonian sports," Alta said. "Naming the arena where he plied his trade for so many years after him would be the smallest tribute we could give him."

"I appreciate the statements of condolences on Dad's passing," Mike West said. "I ask for privacy for myself and my family to grieve at this time."

DROP IT DOWN!: HOW ARE WE #2 IN THE WORLD?!

Name: TJUN-ia

Demonym: TJUN-ian/Jaguar
Nicknames: Jaguars/Hoops-Jags
Governing Body: Basketball Federation of TJUN-ia (BFT/BF-TJUN-ia) - VP of the IBC
Home Colours: Sky Blue with Orange Trim
Away Colours: Orange with White Trim
Third Colours: Black with Orange Trim

Basketball in TJUN-ia has never felt stronger than right now. Ever since Bao Zhou was named head coach, he has been taking this team and this unit to new levels - Quarters in IBC30, 4th in IBC31 and the Bronze Medal last time out in IBC32. Sure, he didn't get closer to Banija as he wanted in that Semifinal, but all that hard work that he and his Hoops-Jags have put in can clearly be seen. TJUN-ia enter this tournament ranked #2 in the world, behind only 3-in-a-row champions Banija itself, a fact that not even Aussie Rules Football can match this present time. The consistent performances of this unit have put us this high and now, with both Bollonich and Quebec and Shingoryeo acting as co-hosts, many are hoping that this team than somehow do what Trent State did and break the Final barrier itself.

But this team is getting older, no doubt about that. The retirement of José Peñalez at the end of IBC32 shows that everyone here is mortal and will slowly fade away into dust. DeMarcus Winston and Mindaugas Karnišovas may be on their ways out soon enough but for now, the main question for Zhou was who was going to be the new starting SG: Antwain Klavon or Adamo Zamenhofo? In the end, he chose the younger Esperantisto but gave assurances to Klavon that he would see increased time off the bench. Moving up to the bench will be Peter Klivert, alumni of the College of Portside and the first NSCAA player to make the bench at least. It was a coin toss that put him there over Edmund Williamson but now he has his chance, let's see what he can do with it. No one knows what will happen next but one thing is for certain: everyone in TJUN-ia is talking to their kids about the #2 Hoops-Jags.

Once again, the Unity Centre in Riverside is back and ready to host #2 Hoops-Jags. While the home side can expect more of the same in terms of crowd support, the pressure was mounting by some in the NAU to build a new arena in The Gardens of New Washington in order to help "return the sport to its natural homeland". While the Unity Centre is an icon of TJUN-ian basketball, especially after the upset over Valanora back a few editions ago, the days of this arena being the sole hosts of the national team is certainly numbered, with the expansion finally coming into effect in time for IBC34.

Hannasea, generally referred to as the Federation or sometimes the Guild Federation, is a small country in Esportiva. Its ventures into international sport have generally been limited to the Olympics, although it did host a World Cup of Hockey when everyone got confused (turns out, it was ice hockey). Field hockey, baseball and softball, gymnastics, and alpine skiing are the most popular sports in the country; basketball ranks above hateball (what Hannaseans call association football because of how much we hate it) but isn’t a majority sport. Nonetheless, stroll through a Hannasean neighbourhood and you’ll see hoops in back yards, indoor and outdoor courts, jerseys of foreign and domestic teams. Basketball definitely has its audience, just not a big one.

After running the same roster for two consecutive tournaments, this is the first IBC to see significant change on the roster. Bigger HBA stars have been willing to make themselves available: this is closer to a full strength team representing the best the league has to offer. Which still isn’t all that great. The HBA hasn’t really taken on the analytics revolution in the way the HBL has. Players are more likely to take low percentage 2PT jumpers than might be common in other leagues. Flashy play – big dunks, hero ball – is popular regardless of what the percentages say. Defence can be pretty fierce or utterly lackadaisical, never in-between.

Coach: Nick Davidson is the new head coach. Seb Cole exceeded expectations on his runs but all things must pass, and a new coach has arrived, with a more technically oriented philosophy. Davidson, coach of the Butterfly City Crazy Hippos during the HBA regular season, is more about the 3&D than average Hannasean coaches, possibly suiting him better to international play.

Roster (starters in bold, returning IBC31/32 players underlined):

5. Jude Cook (PG/SG, 6’4”, Silver Mountain Supernova)
The Joe Tanner experiment has been abandoned for a much more traditional point guard in Jude Cook. Nicknamed ‘Captain Cook’, a hustling leader who’s usually the least athletic and talented guy on the floor. Something of a reputation for dirty play and not above grabbing the odd wrist or throwing an elbow; led the league in both assists and ejections last season.
7. Daniel Harrison (PG/SG, 6’2”, Liberty Sabretooths)
If the team has reverted to the traditional in Cook, in his back-up they’ve swung the other way in Harrison, who emerged as the mostly highly touted shooting prospect in Hannasean history during the off-season. The main question is whether he offers anything else when his shot isn’t landing: he’s too small to guard the 2, doesn’t play D or hit the boards, and is rumoured to be something of a locker room asshole.

8. T.J. Floyd (SG, 6’4”, Oakwood Jesters)
Floyd has been one of the better players for Hannasea in international player and gradually took over starting duties at the 2, mainly thanks to his excellent perimeter defence. Capable of guarding bigger and faster players thanks to relentless hustle and quick hands, he can also hit a reliable three.
11. Cole Parker (SG/SF, 6’7”, Silver Mountain Supernova
A veritable sniper, the three point specialist led the HBA from behind the line last season and is also a lights out free throw shooter. Not nearly as rounded on defence so mainly a wing specialist.

9. Tom Powell (SF/SG, 6’7”, Oak Park Blue Bees)
A popular, flashy wing whose 3PT shot is extremely streaky, middling career average but with some clutch moments to his name, particularly on defence. He’s been the face of the Hannasean team in international play to date and also stands out, in a team full of “surprisingly athletic” (white) guys, for being one of just two men of colour. That said, he’s kept his place on merit.
10. Nate Evans (SF/PF, 6’8”, Greenfield Alligators)
Evans is a reliable scorer with a decent 3PT shot and intelligent, versatile defence. He’s the #1 option on his team but has adapted well to getting minutes off the bench in international play.

13. Cash Pittman (PF/C, 6’8”, Greenville United)
Pittman is one of the most experienced players on the team, a terrific stretch-four with a great 3PT shot and a perennial league leader in rebounds. The knock on him is his defence, which even considering his size is poor.
4. Nathan Shapiro (PF/SF, 6’10”, Butterfly City Crazy Hippos)
Shapiro is a small forward by trade whose size has increasingly seen him used as a stretch-four. Has a light frame which means he can get bodied out physically, but shoots over 40% from three.
15. Mason Labranche (PF, 6’9”, Angelwood Really Fantastic Turkeys)
A dedicated rebounder and good enough perimeter shooter to keep defences honest, even though he’d rather work inside.

14. Jacques Brazier (C/PF, 7’0”, Butterfly City Crazy Hippos)
A potent shot blocker and defensive rebounder, but there’s more to Brazier than just typical big-man defence. For his domestic team he plays as more of a stretch in the power forward, and hit regularly from the three while being a very good free throw shooter for a big man. One of the best rounded players on the team.
6. Rory Hamilton (C, 7’0”, Chelcastle Force)
12. Ryan Black (C/PF, 7’0”, Oak Park Blue Bees)
The two big men that round out the roster are straight up true centres, defensive shotblockers. Hamilton has the better hands on offence, Black is a bit better at creating their own shot, neither can be expected to see much time ahead of Brazier.

Home court

The Pintook Monsters provide none of the players, but all of the hosting for home games. The 18,000-seater arena, the Monster MASH (Municipal Athletics Sports Hostelry), is located on the picturesque shores of Lake Took, while accommodation for visiting teams will be offered at the nearby Guild of Mercers, one of the oldest and most prestigious Guilds that rule the Federation.

Uniforms

The Federation will play in black kit with gold piping, and wear the shorts and socks of their individual HBA franchises.
