Why does compulsory gun ownership reduce Civil Rights?

Postby Andronya » Fri Oct 22, 2021 9:00 am

So... the compulsory gun ownership issue is one I really quite like, considering I'm such a strong gun-rights advocate, but I don't get how choosing to make gun ownership compulsory reduces your civil rights stat so drastically. they fell from Very Good to Average.
I get it, mandating people to own something is not exactly in pro of civil rights, but there are MANY issues that don't reduce Civil Rights anywhere near as much as that.

Because it forces people to do something. By its very definition, compulsory means forcing someone to do something even if it is against their will. You may be pro-gun rights, and I have no problem with people owning guns, but if someone who absolutely abhorred guns of any kind was forced to own one, they would obviously view that as a breach of their civil liberties.

Make no mistake, I agree, but how is that such a massive breach of Civil Rights as to drop them from Very Good to Average in one swift go?
I've picked options in other issues that I would consider a much bigger breach of Civil Rights that didn't have anywhere near as big a drop as that.

It's not a massive breach, just that you've probably done some other acts that slowly reduce civil rights, and compulsory gun ownership just pushes it over the edge.

its because people don't get the choice to have one or not so they feel that they are forced even if they are a pacifist and dont want to have one

I'm positively sure that is not the case, quite the contrary, as of late I have been focusing on both civil rights and economy, but just resolving that one issue with that option dropped my Civil Rights stat from 64 to 53.

I GET THAT, what I don't get is how that is such a massive breach of Civil Rights as to make them drop so drastically, there are other options I have picked that are WAY larger breaches of Civil Rights than making people own guns.

It might depend on your previous policies. Making a decision that goes strongly against your nation's previous policies tends to have a bigger effect on stats than making a decision that merely reconfirms something you were already doing.

Then it makes even less sense; I had a rather high weaponization rate and I had made pro-gun choices whenever an issue regarding guns came up.

Which means you force people to carry and own firearms, something that may make citizens feel uncomfortable or people who don't want to have them being forced to carry them. Anyway, there is no forcing someone without reducing civil rights.

I'd say maybe your civil rights were heavily reliant on "gun freedom", but then by forcing people to own guns, you've drastically dropped said "gun freedom", and because your general civil rights were so reliant on it, you saw a significant drop.
