Palatine is an event focused medieval roleplay region that melds gameplay and roleplay through an achievement based progression system.
It was founded in July 2021 as a passion project of Mingulay Isle, A former XKI emissary and TITO knight and Tactical Officer; as well as amateur heraldist and history nerd.

Palatine's government takes the form of an oligarchic elective monarchy, with the executive branch lead by an Emperor or Empress, elected from among the Kings and Queens of the realm by the Imperial Diet, itself a legislative body made of the Kings, Queens, Dukes and Duchesses of the realm.

September Update:

This month saw two promotions among the Nobility. Ulrich Wolfrum von Hagen, Lord of Haganham has achieved the rank of Duke, while Harold of House Marcia, Lord of Komrat has achieved the rank of Count.

Palatine ran a nationbuilding workshop to promote lore creation in our burgeoning region; which resulted in this lovely post by Komrat https://www.nationstates.net/page=rmb/postid=45134484

We also participated in Nday, as part of the Potato Alliance. Had lots of fun. Nuked lots of people, and had lots of fried tatos after. Looking forward to a Crab bake next year.

Finally, despite a lack of a formal military structure our knights errant have not been idle, riding alongside TITO and other defenders to defend Communist Bread, England(twice!), Priory, Vodex Ylvus, The Motherland, Kingdom of Allah and strike out at fascists in TNP Revolution, and Sarrland; we also chased raiders through 13 regions to mess with their del bumping.

October Update:

This month saw a productive period of recruitment with net population increase of a hundred nations. With this growth comes a number of new appointments in government, including Ogypt who has been appointed to the position of Deputy Chancellor overseeing our mentorship program, Komrat who has been promoted from heraldist to Master of the Collage of Arms, and will be overseeing our heraldry program, Rounville who has joined our heraldry team, and Archenham our first emissary

We also recognize three new Baliffs: Hwat and New Akcaria, for their work protecting the realm from the most foul pestilence of undeath; and Ogypt for their service as a mentor for the many new players in our quickly growing region.

We are also happily to Announce that Palatine has opened it's first embassy, with the region of Christmas! With Archenham serving as emissary hope that this is the beginning of a great relationship between our communities.

Palatine participated in this regions zday, suffering tremendously from the hoards of undead despite the tremendous efforts of Hwat, New Akcaria, Yolyra, Ahauay, Imora Jane and others. In the end only 750 million people survived the plague.

Finally, Our knights errant have continued to scour the world, hunting down brigands who prey on unprotected regions and riding to the defense of;
Kingdom of Allah, The Motherland, Union of Right Wing Nations, Austria and Hungary, Spanish Region of Spainland, The Greater Union of Korea, Old Zealand, The Unknown Abyss, and Furry Antifascist Alliance.

November Update

November has been a month of development, but not growth; though not in terms of regional size, regional population has falling by 3 nations.

Dalvolm Frost of Yolyra has been awarded the title of Baron. Addionally Observation post 13 has been awarded the title of Bailiff. Archenham and Observation Post 13 have both joined our event planning staff and Yolra has volunteered to acts as a mentor.

Palatine now has a functional economy, allowing members to earn the regional currency which can be used to purchase improvements to fiefdoms and speed progression through the ranks of nobility, giving players a way to advance simply by being active in the region.

We have also launched a regional recruitment program with House Hudden, Gopit, and Yolra making up the first generation of recruiters. Finally we have begun training and members for military gameplay and creating a formalized military organization.

Finally Palatine's knights errant have been restructured into a formal military organization; the Order of St Michael; which participated in uncounted number of detags and defenses(literally; I lost track. Better record keeping is next on the to do list I guess) as well as the liberations of Mormonism, Trovons, The New Order Last days of Europe, The Doomsday Legion, Better Grand Peppian Commonwealth(twice), New Libertarian Empire, and Civics 2021.

December Update

Palatine saw a population decline in December, with a net loss of 23 nations, no doubt as holidays drew players away from nations Still the region had a festive holiday season, playing games and sharing stories in our holiday discord channel and joining with Cair Sidi and Christmas for Froast Bryn.

In military gameplay our knights of St Michael spent most of the month piling in defense of Christmas, still we sallied forth in defense of seven regions; a 122 player liberation of China as well as, The Doomsday Legion, Civics 2021, Better Grand Peppian Commonwealth, New Libertarian Empire, The Grand Ascendancy, The Greek Empire Of All Countries

Addionally we have a pretty little coat of arms now. Yay!

January Update

January was a quiet month for Palatine with a net growth of 1 nation. In diplomatic news Palatine has opened diplomatic relations with Lazarus, a development this author hopes will lead to more cross-cultural activity in the future.

Over the course of the month The Order of St Michael rode to the defense of ten regions; Warzone Europe, Nuclear Power, The Consolidation, Seventh Expedition, Catholic Defense Order, Portugal de Esquerda, The Midlands, Soviet Unite and Anhalt.

February Update

February was a month of Roleplay and worldbuilding as knights from Jesruriz, Shard-Esper, Tirolly and others journeyed to the city of Hansa in the northern reaches of the known world seeking wealth and glory, slaying foul monsters and terrifying innkeepers.

Meanwhile the Order of St Michael has rode to the defense of 6 regions; Balkanska Unija III Balkan Union, United We Stand, The Land of Cakes Biscuits and Tea, Mojave Wasteland, Louisiana Purchase and Sornia; and also helped TSP with their Delegate Transition.

On a final note Palatine has modified it's flag in support of Ukraine in it's fight against Putin's illegal invasion. We know that Russian state propaganda has been working hard to convince it's people that there is support for this war and many of our own residents joined nationstates during the Russian TicTok boom; so I have hope that this can do a small part small part to undermine that message.

And on a final final final I promise note, we will be be switching from monthly to seasonal updates starting in March.

Spring Update

This spring saw explosive growth in Palatine, with the region with our population growing by 95 nations. Participation, however, has lagged behind, and it'd long been clear that Palatine's process for managing prestige and titles was cumbersome and requires the government to devote significant time to it; time that could better be spent hosting events and engaging with the community.

Because of this Palatine's system for prestige and titles of nobility has undergone reforms to make it more manageable and accessible to players. This included automated tracking of prestige through our discord bot as well as a lot of tweaking of the requirements privileges for each rank.

Through the latter half of March, Palatine held a grand tournament. Joined by our friends in 10000 Islands, we celebrated the warming days while competing with one another in displays of martial skill. Congratulations to our Champion; Sir Alfred Bornto of Osmarch from The Republic of Western Sol

In foreign affairs, Palatine celebrates the opening of an in-game embassy with 10000 Islands. Through this embassy we acknowledge our communities' shared values and our history of interregional cooperation. We hope this is the beginning of a period of fruitful cultural exchange.

The beginning of May saw Palatine's embassy in Christmas attacked by raiders from Islamic States, Knights from the Order of St Michael mobilized alongside other defenders to restore the region to native hands the next day.

Over the season Palatine participated in the defense of 54 regions, as well as assisted in the delegacy transitions in the Realm of the Whispering Winds and 10000 Islands, and participated in the ongoing destruction of the Confederacy of Layhem and their backup region of Concord.

As a last note, with the defense of Oceania 1984 Palatine has conducted a total of 100 successful military operations.

Summer Update

This summer has been a fairly active one in Palatine, with falling recruitment Palatine focused inward restructuring regional dispatches and guides as well as holding recruitment drives for our government. In July Palatine joined with friends in Caer Sidi, Thegye and 10000 Islands to host a week long summer fair, featuring chess competitions, IO games and heraldry design.

We have welcomed New Akcaria and Mlociniakik to the imperial government, where they will be filling the respective roles of Archivist and Surveyor, helping with the task of tracking member's accomplishments and prestige and conducting regional community polls.
In the peerage Palatine has seen five promotions. With Lord Ulirch of Haganham has been crowned King of Haganham, The lords of Yolyra and Mlociniakik both achieving the rank of Count, and New Akcaria and Observation Post 13 the rank of Baron.

Finally, Palatine's knights have performed 13 liberations over the course of the season, including a liberation of our friends in Christmas.

Hærfest Update

As the harvest season comes to a close the days darken and nights grow cold. But I think back on this as a time of incredible growth for Palatine. We achieved a record number of nations, reaching a peak of 276, the integration of which was greatly helped by the addition of The Scandinavian federal government, Aquilea Empire and Mlociniakik to our mentorship team.

We expanded our heraldry department, adding Ziefland to our team and finally recruiting Rounvaile as Master of the collage of arms.

The peerage has also expanded, with Rounvaile achieving the title of Baron, and Mlociniakik, Aquilea Empire and New Akcaria the title of Duke.

In September we opened an embassy with Thegye, a fellow medieval roleplay region with which we have held events in the past, assigning Aquilea Empire as our emissary. I look forward to working together with them again in the future.

We also published The first installment of offical regional lore, which will serve as the basis for future regional roleplay and storytelling/

In November the Imperial Diet approved a regional constitution, the Cartae Imperialis, which lays the legal foundation for regional government and establishes a process for regional legislation and interregional treaties.

Our performance in Nationstate events was a lot more mixed. Despite an upset that left us going solo we crushed Nday; harvesting score from Fascist Solidarity Axis, (a mega faction of several fascist regions) and Radioactive desert, (a megafaction of various raider groups) to achieve 8th place in the overall scoreboard, only to be targeted by Horsemen of the Apocalypse with enough nukes to destroy every member of our faction. The Horsemen misjudged Palatine though, with strategic use of shields we were able to withdraw most of our members and still preserve enough of our score to place 8th in score per nation. We even made the news.

Zday was an altogether different matter. Palatine struggled keep up with the constant setbacks and by the end of the event most of us had joined the dance macabre.

Finally, with the new lore and governing documents our military has received it's second(and hopefully last) reskin; now named the Order of the Grail. This comes with an IC lore as well as new ranks for members. We also performed 5 Liberations, 18 defenses and 199 detags.
We also recruited two new members, Aquilea Empire, and New Akcaria who cut their teeth on the siege and liberation of Equestria.

In the coming month we plan to participate in NS Christmas Charity Campaign, begin a regional card collection, and establish regional law governing embassy guidelines, recruitment practices and military policy. We're also going back to monthly updates.

This December Palatine joined with numerus other regions to host the 3rd annual Nationstates Christmas charity. We also held our own month long holiday event, the feast of St Nicholas

Mlociniakik has expanded their role, joining the event planning team and becoming emissary to Christmas event planner and reach the rank of King. The peerage has further expanded to include the barony of Ziefland.

In January we prepared for our first Imperial elections, as the Peerage grew further with the addition of the baronies of Cogito Ergo Sum, The Scandinavian federal government

On the military front the Order of the Grail performed five liberations, and one hundred and thirty defenses, including a liberation of New Westphila and defense of Middle Earth.

this update was posted everywhere else like two months ago, but not here. I choose to believe that is is a statement of the low place GP has compared to our embassy partners, and not my own inability to do things.

February Update

I am pleased to report on the happenings of the month of February in Palatine. Despite a dip in population from 166 to 121, we remain a strong and vibrant community.

One of the biggest events of the month was the election of Mlociniakik as Emperor, following a close race against New Akcaria and Aquilea Empire. Congratulations to Mlociniakik on this achievement!

We also appointed New Akcaria as our Marshal and Ziefland as our Master of the Collage of Arms, adding valuable members to our leadership team.

In inter-regional news, Palatine teamed up with Canopy for a NationStates nuclear event. Although our performance was not as strong as we had hoped, we were proud to have participated and are grateful for the opportunity to work with Canopy.

Our Knights of the Grail were also busy this month, engaging in 124 Defenses, 213 Detags, and 5 Liberations. In particular, we were involved in a siege and subsequent defense/liberation combo with the League of Christian Nations.

March Update

As spring blooms, Palatine continues to thrive and grow. We are pleased to report that our population has increased from 121 to 161, a testament to the hard work and dedication of our recruiters and leaders, and not a little help from... actually I don't know what -alypse we're on now.

In March, we welcomed Most Serene Saberhagen to our heraldry team, expanding our capacity for creating beautiful and unique coat of arms for our members. We look forward to seeing their contributions and creativity in the future.

Additionally, we passed a new law formalizing our embassy policy, solidifying our commitment to establishing positive and cooperative relationships with other regions in NationStates. This new law will ensure that our embassy relations adhere to certain standards of community behavior and engagement.

As for our military achievements, Palatine's Knights of the Grail once again demonstrated their prowess in the field, engaging in 34 defenses, 83 detags, 6 liberations, as well as providing support to England during it's siege and reconstruction.

April Update

April has brought with it many developments in our region. We are thrilled to announce that Aquilea Empire has risen to the rank of King, while Most Serene Saberhagen and Andara have both attained the rank of Baron. Congratulations to all three nations for their hard work and dedication in achieving this prestigious honor.

Palatine held a magnificent spring tournament, which saw knights and lords from across the realm gather to showcase their skills in archery, polearm combat, and jousting. The competition was fierce, but ultimately Thedairos Dame Theadora Friedhort of Ferod emerged victorious in the jousting event.

In other news, Avignon-upon-Orleans has been appointed as our new Chronicler. As the Chronicler, they will be responsible for promoting and moderating regional roleplay. Additionally, Avignon-upon-Orleans and Isenna have been appointed as heraldists, tasked with creating and maintaining the region's heraldry.

Ziefland has stepped down from their position as Master of the College of Arms to take up the role of Seneschal, which involves managing the region's internal cultural affairs, including roleplay and events. Most Serene Saberhagen has been appointed as the new Master of the College of Arms.

The Grail knights were active, performing 66 detags, 10 liberations, and 295 defenses. One of the most significant military successes was the liberation of Yorkshire from enemy forces.

Overall, it was a busy and eventful month, and the region continues to thrive and grow under the leadership of dedicated individuals.

May Update

We are delighted to announce that Palatine's population from 131 to 142 thanks to dedicated recruitment efforts and the efforts of our mentors in introducing new players to the region.

We also congratulate to New Akcaria for attaining the rank of King. This achievement highlights their commitment and contributions to the region, and we applaud their dedication.

The Imperial Diet of Palatine has passed the groundbreaking legislation titled "An Act for Regular Reporting of Regional Events." This act formalizes the responsibilities for collecting information necessary for monthly reports. It also means I get to spend less time poking people. Yay!

The valiant members of the Order of the Grail have performed 103 detags, 63 defenses, and 3 liberations.

June Update

While the scorching heat and oppressive humidity may have deterred some from engaging in active pursuits, it was a month of quiet productivity and important developments within our realm. Throughout the month, many of our members, including myself, found solace in the the cool embrace of worldbuilding, allowing us to expand the rich tapestry of our realm.

On that note we extend our heartfelt congratulations to Gelder who has been appointed as the new Chronicler of Palatine. As the Chronicler, they will play a vital role in promoting and moderating regional roleplay.. Gelder has also has achieved the rank of Baron this month.

Addionally the gallant members of the Order of the Grail have valiantly performed 107 detags and 272 defense.

Finally We would like to bring your attention to an upcoming significant event in Palatine. Next month, we will be holding our imperial election, wherein the Imperial Diet will convene to appoint a worthy Emperor to lead our region.

July Update

As the warmth of summer enveloped our realm, the month of July brought forth a few notable developments and events

Palatine held it’s second imperial election with Aquilea Empire emerging as the new Emperor. We look forward to their guidance and contributions in the months ahead.

We are also happy to congratulate Locksley for their elevation to the esteemed rank of Count.

Meanwhile our Order of the Grail, executed four liberations; of Demokralja, RP Rejected Realms, Rose and Gold, and South Pacific, while also conducting 175 defenses, 178 detags, and 36 supports for various regions, including Warzone Africa and Boston.

August Update

As we bid farewell to the heat of summer I am also pleased to share that Mlociniakik has returned to the role of Surveyor. With their experience and insights, we welcome their continued contributions to our region's culture and a return to regular community polling.

Additionally we honor the the efforts of the member of the Order of the Grail; Haganham, Mlociniakik, Observation Post 13, Isenna and New Akcaria who embarked on a month-long mission in the fascist region Tiranos da Vanuarda, successfully seizing and destroying the region.
