Minoa’s N-Day Press Room

Postby Minoa » Sat Sep 25, 2021 5:33 pm

Minoa is back to collect information for the 6th Nuclear Apocalypse. My questions will go here, while ideas for events that I should report on can be submitted here.

First question: It has come to my attention that the Horsemen of the Apocalypse has apparently merged with CRABS to form the Crabs of the Apocalypse. I wish to ask what actually motivated the merger, since the last-place finish of the Horsemen of the Apocalypse last year caught my attention.

Nice to see you back at this, I remember the 2019 coverage, that was pretty fun.

Unfortunately for you however, the megafactions this year got to a point which just made the entire event boring as heck, so probably not that much to cover this time around unless factions literally split up lol, but I think that's unlikely.

We can look forward to the inevitable fight between the two big ones I guess, but even that doesn't seem like it'll be very competitive at this point.

I don't know about you but this was fun as heck for me. I manually ran the faction Bits Beans with my own 61 nations and got up to 4th or 5th place in the world for the faction score before getting obliterated by the Potato Alliance. I think I did pretty well and consider it a nice achievement as this is my first time doing N Day. I agree that the mega faction situation is a bit lame but maybe next year this will be broken up better. Unfortunately when everyone is a winner, individual victories are less valuable.

Fair enough, I guess the first hours went alright depending on what you were doing. From here onwards though, I can't really see anything particularly fun happening unless factions split up or something, that would be interesting but unlikely. I'm not bothered by megafactions specifically, those will always exist, in fact I think them existing is what makes the event fun if you run a smaller faction, there is a challenge in getting high score despite all odds being against you. The extent by which it happened this year was what bothered me though, you don't even have some half a dozen megafactions competing, it's just two.

For the record, it has also been reported that the Augustin Alliance is neutral this year, giving its members a free vote on any faction. Still no word on the positions by Osiris or the Black Hawks, who were active as part of the Ba Sing Se consortium last year. Lazarus has gone for The Catgirl Hivemind, which has sadly done poorly (-79,363 points, 2,115 strikes and 81,478 radiation at 03:22 Dublin Time).

Personally? Someone in HotA talked to someone else in CRABS to unite into CotA.

Great to see you doing it this time, like much earlier than I did last year! :P So... does that mean I don't have to do it, lest it became redundant? ^^;

Anyway, if I am to contribute, perhaps I can add a bit more about how there are a lot of talk and complaints about it being a bit... automated and robotic. There is definitely a problem about factions either being way too large, and number of nations being concentrated in the powers of a few people.

Something about how one player can wipe out an entire 10-20 nation strong faction if they want to.

I hope I don't sound too biased for or against mass-created nations, since after all, I didn't even participate and thus is observing this as an outsider.

We at CotA thought that the Catgirl Hivemind was meant to house basically everything in BSS last year; TBH members were definitely in the faction, and we were under the impression that Osi was too. Pretty sure AA was scared shitless of us after just barely eking out a 4v1 victory against HotA last year and decided to quit while they were ahead.
