NS Global Athletics Tour season 1 - OOC/discussion

Postby Liventia » Mon Sep 20, 2021 1:10 pm

Following the successful Olympic athletics competition recently held in Terranean Coast (Bunjil), Electrum, the Liventian Athletics Federation – themselves no strangers to running international track and field meets, having done so at the 8th Summer Olympics in Orean – has organised the inaugural NS Global Athletics Tour.

Season 1 of the GAT will be a smaller-scale version of what the Tour is planned to become in the future. Modelled on the RL Diamond League, the GAT aims to bring the world's best – and only the best – together in a series of meets, held across the multiverse, in a number of events but not a full complement as you would expect at a World Championships or Olympics. In other words, more selective and (hopefully) of higher quality. The long-term plan for the GAT involves multiple tiers, like in real life with the Continental Tour (Gold, Silver, Bronze) below the Diamond League.

For the first season of the GAT, the following events (both men's and women's) have been selected: 100m, 200m, 400m, 800m, 1500m*, 100m/110m hurdles, high jump, pole vault, long jump, triple jump. *Meet hosts will have the option of running their 1500m events over 1000m, 1500m, or the mile. For this inaugural edition, no throws, race walks, relays, or long-distance events will be held.

Depending on the number of athletes signed up in each event, and the total number of meets, each athlete signed up will be assigned to a minimum of 2 and a maximum of 4 meets, scoring points based on their final position to qualify for the NS GAT Final where the overall GAT champions will be crowned. No more than 16 athletes will be entered in an event in each meet, allowing for two heats and a final for the sprints and 800m as well as a straight final for the middle-distance races.

SIGNUPS
There are two parts to signups: meet host signups and athlete signups.

Meet hosts
I already have preliminary interest from at least 6 nations about hosting meets, and am ideally aiming for 10-12 for the first season. Like in the WGPC, at least for this first season, I intend to organise the entire tour, and any hosting by other nations is purely IC. This may change in future editions, to have meet hosts scorinate their own meets. Each nation may enter ONE meet (with the exception, for this inaugural season only, of myself; I shall be entering two, one for the final).

If you are interested in holding a meet (please note not all meet host signups will be accepted), I need the following information:
Full meet name (e.g. Müller British Grand Prix Gateshead)
Location of meet (Stadium, city)
Middle-distance race distance (choice between 1000m, 1500m, and mile. 1500m is standard)
Additional information (anything you'd like to add, ICly or OOCly - e.g. "the pole vault will be held in the city centre away from the stadium", or "the track is of an odd shape", or any information about the country and/or meet sponsor)

Athletes
If you've signed up for the Olympics before, you know how this goes.

Please pay attention and read through the following information very carefully. If there is a problem with your sign-up, it may not be entered and you will need to resubmit your entries.

Copy the event list below. Under each event, write the names of the athletes participating in each event. The number inside the bracket indicates the maximum number of entries a delegation may send to an event. All events being held in the GAT are individual events, and you must give the name of each participating individual on a separate line. (You may enter fewer than the maximum number.) Athletes must be entered in the Name;TRIGRAMME;skill format.

A skill modifier is used to determine how well an athlete or a team performs in an event. For the purposes of the GAT, as this is intended to bring the best of the best together, the minimum skill modifier accepted will be 35, and the maximum the usual 100. An athlete participating in multiple events has a separate modifier for each event. Automatic entries do not contribute to the entry average. The average of a delegation's entries must be 65 or under. Min-maxing will not be possible, as a full entry list of equal 35s and 100s would result in an average over 65. As delegations for this first GAT will be small, there will be no MMAB applied for season 1.

ENTRY LIMITS: In addition to the entry limits in each event, single delegations may not enter more than 30 entries. As there are 20 events to enter, and you can enter up to 3 athletes in each running event and 2 in each jumping event, you may wish to exclude some events your nation is traditionally weak at in favour of others.

PUPPETS: You may enter a maximum of 45 athletes and 2 delegations per user. Unified teams will be allowed only if each constituent nation of the unified team is an existing nation on NS and is run by a different user. This means a unified team cannot consist of a master and puppet – enter them separately. If a user is entering as part of a unified team, that will count as one of two delegations. Puppets should be declared.

Remember, there is a total limit of 30 entries per delegation / 45 per user in addition to the event limits. Please avoid copy-pasting your Olympics athletics signup, since events have been removed and the entry limits in the jumps lowered.

EDITING ENTRIES AND WITHDRAWING
If you need to edit your entries after they have already been accepted, you must indicate the changes you wish to make in a new post, rather than editing your existing signup post. Edits may be submitted up until the signup deadline.

Wholesale withdrawals will not be allowed once a signup is accepted. On a meet-to-meet basis, for RP, withdrawals may be effected by announcing that a particular athlete has scratched from a particular event at a particular meet in this thread, and that athlete will have their result marked as DNS for that event. This method may not be used for wholesale withdrawals.

The signup deadline is Tuesday, 5 October 2021, at 12:00 UTC – two weeks is loads of time.

POINTS SYSTEM / FORMAT
At each of the meets, athletes will be awarded 10, 9, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, or 3 points for ranking 1st to 8th in the final. In events with heats, all other athletes score 0 points. In events with more than 8 athletes in the final, 2 or 1 points will be awarded to the 9th and 10th placed finisher as well; all other athletes score 0 points. This also applies to the jumping events.

In the long jump/triple jump, instead of the top 8 qualifying for the last 3 jumps at each event, only the top 6 will take the last 3 jumps. The "final 3" system will not be used.

At the end of the GAT regular season, the top 8 athletes from 100m to 800m, and top 12 in the 1000m/1500m/mile, and the top 6 in the jumps qualify for the GAT Final. The GAT Final will be a championship-style event, meaning it's winner-take-all and previous points don't matter.

Banija has kindly created a signup sheet here.

Full meet name San Pietro Games
Location of meet Stadio Orione(Capacity: 21,000), Serone
Middle-distance race distance 1500m
Additional information With Serone being situated on the western, more religious side of Juvencus, the San Pietro Games are sponsored directly by the Church of Juvencus, a sect of the catholic church and the main catholic church of Sonnel in honor of the patron saint of the city, Saint Peter as well as Bonere, a major airline. Fair play and absence of foul vocabulary in the stadium are more than encouraged. It is a multipurpose stadium, mostly known as the home of association football club Internazionale Serone.

Full meet name: The RTC Hawabark Classic
Location of meet: Hawabark Olympic Stadium(cap. 17,800) in Hawabark, Buganda, Banija.
Middle-distance race distance: Mile
Additional information: Known as the "spiritual home" for track & field, Hawabark in Buganda has been brought forward to host a meet in Season 1 of the NS Global Athletics Tour. The Buganda Region produces a disproportionately high amount of Banija's track & field athletes at the Summer Olympiad. While the City of Hawabark, being not that large and rather far in-land, has obviously not hosted the Olympics, it gets its name for hosting Banija's Olympic Qualifier for track & field.

With the building of the much larger Istria Olympic Stadium for the XIV Summer Olympiad, major events now tend to split time at both Hawabark and Istria, alternating between Banija's two most famous track venues. With Istria Olympic Stadium serving as the host for track & field events at the AOlympics, the Global Athletics Tour has decided to bid with their more historic stadium to host events.

Additional information: The Nykipflugpuu Tourism and Sporting Board has bid to host a round of the inaugural NS Global Athletics Tour in its latest attempt to spur Nykipish recognition worldwide.

Nykipiflugpuun Ihmyysporttityrnyy, or the Nykipish Athletics Tournament, is slated to be held in the definitely completed Timantirkaan Sporrtirakennus (Timantirkas Sports Building), a heated, low-capacity indoor athletics facility complete with a roof and functional lighting—a necessity as the event would likely be scheduled well beyond the onset of the polar night. In representation of the NTSB, Abovian Olympic Committee head and organizational middleman Arne Kuadonvaara assures that the organization "is well intentioned and likely prepared to host an athletics meet."

Full meet name: Paradise Cove Athletic Meet
Location of meet: Paradise Cove (cap. 20,200) in Other side of paradise, Brookstation.
Middle-distance race distance: 1500
Additional information: When Bashar Jackson and his crew came to Brookstation, the first settlement they found was in current day Dreamland. Dreamland looked like paradise to him but just in the outskirts, there was a completely swampy land filled with waste and that is how the city got its infamous name. Today other side of paradise is one of the most developed city in Brookstation and ironically it is the cleanest city too. Sporting culture is not so popular within OSOP but surprisingly football and athletics are really popular here. The football club of Other side of paradise won the latest season of the Twin Premier League and Robin Farrance the only athlete to win a medal in athletics from Brookstation in the Olympics was also born here. The meet shall be sponsored by Xplora a tourism company based on OSOP which also sponsors the clubs jerseys.

Full meet name: Kekeza Camaron International
Location of meet (Stadium, city): Tukari Kaita National Stadium, Camaron
Middle-distance race distance: 1500m
Additional information: After the locally-contained successes of the Tukari Kaita Games -- a similarly structured athletics league contested by constituent members of the Rabastorian Union; held in honour of the Cobre revolutionary leader who spearheaded their fight for independence from Osarius -- the Cobre Commission for Athletics (CCA) opted to put the national stadium forward to host a truly global event. Securing the sponsorship of Kekeza (a software company specialising in sports games development, whose head offices are in Camaron), the CCA felt that this would help to promote the event to a larger audience and bring more international attention to Cobre athletics. Though hosting this event would necessitate a reworking of the central field markings -- the national stadium is also used for other sporting events, most notably, international football -- the CCA do not envision this being a problem, as the Camaron Classic -- the opening event of every edition of the Tukari Kaita Games -- is also held at the national stadium, so ground staff are well-practiced in the conversions required. A capacity of approximately 37,000 should be adequate, though the CCA has also taken steps to arrange the construction of multiple "fan parks" in Camaron, with large outdoor screens, should expected attendance be higher than the stadium can facilitate.
Finally free of the oppressive yoke of the Osarian Kingdom.

A moderately conservative, somewhat-religious nation with a lingering resentment for Osarius, their former colonial oppressors.
If you want a RL reference point, this nation is supposed to be a cultural, social and political mélange of Mexico and Jamaica.

I will sometimes RP in an approximation of Jamaican Patois. Apologies in advance ;)

Liventia will put forward two meets, one for the regular season and one for the final.

Full meet name: Neverend Grand Prix
Location of meet: Stade Grande Olympique, Neverend
Middle-distance race distance: Mile
Additional information: The Neverend Grand Prix will host its second international meet, after having served as an Olympic Qualification Event for the Games of the XI Olympiad. Held at the Stade Grande Olympique, host stadium for the VII and XIV Winter Olympics, the Neverend Grand Prix will be the regular-season stop on the GAT calendar in Liventia. The mile is the default middle-distance race length at the Neverend Grand Prix; it has only ever been held over 1500m twice – at the Olympic Qualifying Event, and once when it served as a national Olympic trial event.

Full meet name: Meeting international d'Oréan / Orean International Meet (GAT Final)
Location of meet: Grovers Olympic Park, Orean
Middle-distance race distance: 1500m
Additional information: The Orean International Meet (Meeting international d'Oréan) will be the host meet of the Global Athletics Tour Final for season 1. Set in the grand confines of Grovers Park Stadium, the host stadium for the Games of the VIII and XIV Olympiads, athletes will take part in the first major international athletics meet at the stadium. When Grovers Park held the 8th Summer Olympics, it did not have an athletics track and the sport was held at a temporary arena built across the road; although a track had been built in the intervening years, Istria held the athletics events during the 14th Games.
