[DRAFT] And a Cartridge in a Pear Tree

Postby Omnicontrol » Sun Sep 19, 2021 7:04 am

This issue is an idea I just had 5 minutes ago. Hope you like it.

[DESCRIPTION] With almost everyone in @@NATION@@ buying Christmas trees and decoration, murderers and the alike are finding more and more ways to hide in people's houses, often with non-benign intentions. Many fearful citizens and families of the deceased are calling you to do something.
[VALIDITY] can only be received in December

[OPTION] "Do something, @@LEADER@@!" cries @@RANDOMNAME_1@@. "My dad was already killed by these stalkers, and I'll probably be the next! We need police to patrol our houses on demand; anything to stop this situation!"
[RESULT] police training includes standing up for seven days straight

[OPTION] "A bullet a day keeps strangers away" remarks @@RANDOMNAME_2@@; "Relax some gun laws and we won't need any police or nonsense to get these suckers out of our houses. And whoever doesn't know how to use a gun... well, survival of the fittest."
[RESULT] the main death cause among murderers is self-defense

[OPTION] "This' wackos just bein' overdramatic" says suspected serial killer @@RANDOMNAME_3@@, smoking a cigarette. "One or two peeps dying ain't anything special, and these guys will just find another way to get inside, my man."
[RESULT] 9 out of 10 people living in a house were not invited

As... obscure as it may sound, it's innovative (I think). Also, it's interesting. If something is both innovative and interesting, you can bet your life savings I'm making a draft outta it.

If this is a Christmas issue, maybe the options should be more holiday-themed with Christmassy jokes?

So how is this of national importance? And what about nations that don't celebrate Christmas or any other religiously-oriented holiday?

I don't know. Christmas is not the main point. I could do it with Halloween. It's just that Christmas trees are bigger, so it's easier to pull it off with Christmas.

If people were dying because murderers are literally hiding in a tree with a shotgun, wouldn't that be important? Also, in NS Issues, we have aliens, we have broken the fourth wall... This wouldn't crack the Top 20 weirdest things we have done in NS Issues.

Maybe you should add an option about banning Christmas in the first place

I'm not sure how a validity of "only available in December" would work. Are you trying to make this like an Easter Egg issue?

No, I'm not trying to make this an EE issue. It's just that it would be a bit awkward receiving a Christmas issue in August.

There's at least one precedent: #1120 'Following Yonder Star' is also December-only (or something close to that) without being an Easter Egg.

No. that's #471 'Red Sleigh Down' which is an Easter Egg.

'Following Yonder Star' (#1120) is
The rulers of three distant kingdoms have all requested permission to enter @@NAME@@ and visit the small town of Betraisa during a specific week this year. When asked for an explanation, they each disclosed that a keen interest in astrology had led them to believe that a long-prophesied religious teacher and leader of mankind would soon be born there. When pressed for further details about how to identify this individual, however, they all decided that letting your government know any more might not be the wisest thing to do.

Really? One of the editors told me that it was seasonally limited, back around the time when it was being edited or introduced...
Maybe they've changed its status more recently?

Could it have appeared in the nation's issues queue back in December, and sat there until the day in question?

That would have been possible, yes. Of course I don't know the relevant player's policy on answering issues promptly...
