[draft] proposal to outlaw the practice of cycling.

Postby Greatest Britannica » Wed Sep 08, 2021 12:48 pm

The Assembly recognises the harm to industry, economic progress and to national security cycling provides. It is under this predicament that I call upon the unanimous vote to banish this outdated and harmful practice, one especially damaging to the motor vehicle industry and to the security of the people.
Cycling has been shown to:
Decrease likelihood of using a car or public transportation.
Increase stress and anxiety amongst the good drivers of this region.

And most importantly is directly linked to an increase in terrorism activities from extremist organisations (as found in a study by His majesty's government department of Counterterrorism and investigation.

It is under this banner that I implore you to all do the right thing and outlaw this outdated practice, and like slavery and facism of the past... Leave it in history.

Short answer: no.
Long answer: hell naw!
In solidarity with Ukraine, I will be censoring the letters Z and V from my signature. This is -ery much so a big change, but it should be a -ery positi-e one. -olodymyr -elensky and A-o- continue to fight for Ukraine while the Russians are still trying to e-entually make their way to Kharki-, -apori-h-hia, and Kry-yi Rih, but that will take time as they are concentrated in areas like Bakhmut, -uledar, and other areas in Donetsk. We will see Shakhtar play in the Europa League but Dynamo Kyi- already got eliminated. Shakhtar managed to play well against Florentino Pere-'s Real Madrid who feature superstars like -inicius, Ben-ema, Car-ajal, and -al-erde. Some prominent Ukrainian players that got big transfers elsewhere include Oleksander -inchenko, Illya -abarnyi, and Mykhailo Mudryk.

They submitted it earlier and it'll definitely get dinged for breaking GA proposal rules. Not sure if the author will listen.

+1 to this. Cyclists ought to be deported if not executed.

Cyclists are perhaps one step above Jihadists and two steps below Communists in terms of general pleasantry and sociability; we must secure the existence of our roads and a future for our children where they need not worry about that cyclist on the road getting in the way of their car, slowing them down, and then yelling at them or flipping them off.

Illegal: No Operative Clause ("I implore you to" actually doesn't DO anything).

Also, some GenSec members might define this as Illegal under the rule against 'Joke Proposals'.

OOC: Also possibly metagaming (mention of game regions). Best change it to something like "the world" or "member states."

OOC: I think it squeaks by, since the complaints given here are valid arguments that people or lobbyists might actually use. The war between city buses and cyclists is no fuckin' joke where I'm from. For simple transportation safety reasons, it would actually be not a terrible idea to ban either private cars or bicycles from dense urban areas; for pollution reasons I would pick cars, but some member nations might not.

OOC: That point certainly could be considered serious enough for legality, and I agree that banning cars would definitely make more sense than banning cycles not just for pollution reasons but also because cars are generally far more dangerous to other travellers than are cycles (I speak here as somebody who cycled to & from work quite regularly for over 30 years, and was forced off of my bike by careless or just insufficiently observant drivers five times during that period: one broken arm & fractured collarbone, one case of cracked ribs, and on the other occasions -- which were all cases of motorists in parked cars throwing car doors wide open onto the roadway without checking for passing cyclists first -- just scrapes & bruises plus [once] broken glasses), but the "increase in terrorism activities" clause is bloody ridiculous...
