The Superhero Thread

Postby Lord Dominator » Sun Aug 01, 2021 6:41 pm

Based on a suggestion from the MCU thread, I give you a merged thread for both Marvel and DC, and other superhero stuff (I recognize that the first two are 95% of the conversations in all likelihood).

Appropriate topics:
  • The MCU and DCEU (and why the MCU is better)
  • The various other shows and movies (and why the DC ones are better)
  • The various other comics/shows/movies based on superheroes.

Suggestions on a better description or polls are welcome :)

I'm going to put it out there... the Snyderverse (here defined as MoS, BvS, WW and the Snydercut) is a more narratively and artistically coherent franchise than the MCU, that, given time (compare the two versions of Justice League), does a better job of developing its secondary characters (i.e. everyone else other than Batman and Superman) than the MCU does (see: Disney+ shows).

That being said, I'd almost always prefer to watch Ragnarok (and most MCU movies) over any of the Snyderverse films.

A new Venom: Let there Be Carnage trailer.

I haven't seen the first one so I didn't watch the trailer myself.

Why can't Marvel make good Animated Shows and Movies anymore? Last good Marvel show I remember is Avengers: Earth's Mightiest Heroes, everything sense has been downhill. DC on the other hand hasn't made a bad animated movie in a long time.

I will check it out as the comic line was pretty good. The little things which could change history…..

That being said; I am not going to have high hopes for it.

WandaVision? Meh. Too much time spent on oh look we can make them look like they were in the old famous sitcoms of the past. I was hoping beyond hope they were going to use it as a welcome mat to the House of M.

Falcon and the Winter soldier? Meh. Better then WandaVision and that’s not saying much.

Loki was interesting. Lady Loki was sounding interesting and it went splat when she appeared. The other Loki’s saved it. I have not finished it yet.

My mom of all people went to see the Black Widow. She was bored out of her mind. She said it was just one big loud continuous motion. A mark of no story which makes the grievous sin of assuming everybody knows the character.

We shall see what the next series will do. I am hoping they will have the same result as Captain America. “What Chris Evans??????? Damn it!” I was wrong.

DC will not catch the MCU as they don’t understand telling origin stories and finish with the big montage film. They take chances and yet fail to carry though. I mean Aquaman. Probably the most blandest hero of our times. To the point other cartoons would make fun of him(Fairly Odd parents and the Super Pals: Wet Willie). Jason Mamoa gave him a fierce look and it’s like somebody declared we can go dark with this!!!

Superman and Batman? Well?…..I guess this is a case where you really don’t have to tell one as Superman only seems to exist landing and fighting his one enemy…..Lex Luther(and yes I know there were others like Zod). Batman at least gets a couple.

Wonder Woman was ok. Could have been better. Let’s not talk about 1984.

Questions about the trailer so far: who's the screaming girl (Black Canary since this is also the DC thread now?) and what does Venom mean with 'it's a red one'?

That would be Shriek. She is usually an opponent of Spiderman.

Aha, I don't know her though. It does seem convenient to have a person with sound based powers in a movie where the weakness of the villian is loud sounds.

DC is only good at animated stuff and Solo movies. Marvel is good at team up movies whall there shows and solo movies can be hit or miss.

So I'm transcribing a theory post from FB post since we have limited image posting sources now. Also if this has already been brought up before, sorry.
Theory:
In the same moment that Wanda Maximoff aka Scarlett Witch becomes the true Scarlett Witch, He who remains aka Kang says to the two Loki variants "we just crossed the threshold." Both of these events happen at exactly 27:55 in ther respective episodes. Seconds later it happens again. Just as Agatha hits the ground in Wanda Vision (28:14) He who remains drops something on his desk. The synchronicity is so precise, it's hard to imagine that it was coincidence.

I haven't actually checked the times, but it's patently obvious that both series were teeing up DS:MoM, so if true I think it's really just a neat easter egg someone found.

Carnage only sometimes has the sonic weakness. But if Venom is the hero of the film (?) then having an ally with sound based powers is just as inconvenient as it is helpful, or, at least, they could write it that way.

I was going to say that I consider it within the thread purview, but then remembered it had an official DC crossover anyways once.

Do you mean the movie (had an official crossover) or is this a reference to something in the comics (e.g. Doomsday Clock)?
