NS World Cup of Masters IV Everything Thread

Postby Sarzonia » Mon Jul 19, 2021 12:42 pm

OOC: If you are NOT a participant in this tournament or a moderator or admin performing their required duties, DO NOT POST in this thread. Any OOC questions, comments, etc. should be posted in the OOC thread. With that out of the way:

IC: Welcome all 16 nations competing for a spot in the knockout rounds of the fourth edition of the World Cup of Masters!

Sarzonia won the inaugural edition of this tournament with Kriegiersien and Delaclava taking the second and third editions, respectively. With Delaclava opting not to defend their title, we will have a new champion in the fourth edition. Will it be Sarzonia or Kriegiersien becoming the first two-time winner or will a new team hoist the trophy aloft? The best way to answer that is to play this tournament!

With 16 teams, we will have four groups of four teams each play a double round-robin group stage, both home and away. The top two teams from each group will advance to the knockout rounds.

Tiebreakers will go as follows:
Two teams:
1. Head-to-head results
2. Goal differential in head-to-head results
3. Overall goal differential
4. Total goals scored
5. IC coin flip (OOC: RP bonus)
6. Playoff match scorinated as a knockout round matchup

Three or more teams. Note that if any team is eliminated after this stage, the two remaining teams will revert to the tiebreakers listed above.
1. Head-to-head record among drawn teams
2. Goal differential in head-to-head matchups
3. Total goals scored in head-to-head matchups
4. Overall goal differential across all matches
5. IC coin flip (OOC: RP bonus)
6. Tiebreaker match

Please note that tiebreakers will not begin to be applied until the second half of qualifying.

Once the knockout rounds begin, the matches will be played in Sarzonia. I will scorinate all of my group stage matches. If either Sarzonia or Soldera qualify for the knockout rounds (or both), I will request third party scorination for any knockout round matches I compete in.

Scorination will be done via Vilita's mobile scorinator. The group stages will be done with this version, which allows draws. The knockout stages will be done with this one, which includes extra time and penalties. Since I don't have a way of modifying the knockout round version to go directly to penalties, extra time and penalties will operate as they would in the NSWC, instead of in the RL World Cup of Masters, which would go directly to penalties if the match were level after 90 minutes.

The 16 teams signed up for the World Cup of Masters are as follows:
1. Sarzonia
2. HUElavia
3. The Jovannic
4.The Togolese Republic
5. Abanhfleft
6. Atheara

12. Soldera (puppet of Sarzonia)
13. Eshialand
14. Raspotochje (puppet of Srednjaci)
15. Adab
16. Kriegiersien

The group draw will take place tomorrow night at 9 p.m. EDT. Matchday 1 will take place on Sunday 25 July at the same time.

Kriegiersien national team for the fourth WORLD CUP OF MASTERS

The legendary eleven of Bunker 70436 in their blue dress (from the front left after winning bronze in the last edition, with coach Haudels crying in the background)

Sissy Looper (65)
Missing the Reserve Players of the National team:
Jobst Haudels (38)
Di Bradini77 (36)
Marco Wimmer (53)

Time flows differently in the TVA Kriegiersien. It was hard to bring the old gang together. But Coach Haudels succeeded in the end.

The first winners of the Kriegiersien cup after the nuclear war, Team Bunker 70436, a legendary team.
Reinforced was the squad in the first Masters by Timon Robert-Haudels, the first winning a championship as coach for the presidents club Timesteam, former National team player, voted midfielder and defender of the year in Kriegiersien and relative of the president.
Since the second edition:
Jobst Haudels (40) The son of Timon just turned old enough after ending his career as professional player. He was like his father national team player, but not that successful
Di Bradini77 (38) A prototype clone of the legendary Simeone Di Bradini, who didn’t make the cut to ever play for Kriegiersien. But he is still a great talent with great genes and played soccer a while, before turning to other sports and finally becoming a hairdresser.
Marco Wimmer (55) Was once the fastest player in Kriegiersien and played half of his life for the presidents club Timesteam. He then ended his career playing in lower leagues.

Playing Coach
Timon Robert Haudels (58)

Goalkeeper
Sissy Looper (67)

Defender

Marky Mark (63)

Striker
Kai Alberz (73)
Marc Gocher (71)

Reserves:
Jobst Haudels (40)
Di Bradini77 (38)
Marco Wimmer (55)

Medical:
Brumburg Docta

And the obligatory Kriegiersien black jerseys instead of the blue colours of the Bunkerteam of old.

Kriegiersien comes as always in their black Olympic rags.. jerseys.
Image

Playing style is usually a 4-4-2 or 5-3-2.

After the Olympics and other events took the focus of the old heroes, the home games will be played in an old, small local stadium near Scorpion City where everyone can watch who finds a space to look at the grass (more of a meadow) field.

Time: -

Welcome to the 4th edition of the NationStates World Cup of Masters (or NSWCM for short)! This is a tournament where many retired players are given a final shot of golory before they go full black (Full black is an Athearan term for fully retired). In the previous edition, Atheara reached the Quarter Finals where we prooceded to get kocked by Krigiersien by 3 - 1. Previous Champions Delaclava are not attempting to defend their title, meaning a new champion will be crowned, and these Athearans will try to earn that title!

No one deserves to be sacked so quickly they say, and Kristian wants to give this chance to the fullest extent.

Note: In the Adabian timeline, the World Cup of Masters takes place around June-July 2034. Age is as of June 1, 2034.

The Adabian Over-35 National Football Team

Success isn’t determined by how many times you win, but by how you play the week after you lose.
-Pelé

BACKGROUND
This edition marks Adab’s first participation in the World Cup of Masters, and thus the debut of the over-35 national team. Participation in this tournament was initially not very high on the Adab Football Association’s list of priorities, with the AFA already focusing on the Independents Cup, the U18 World Cup, and the U21 World Cup for this year alone, not to mention the qualifiers for World Cup 89 which would start later this year. With AFA chief Naram-Sin Araqasdah rather unenthusiastic about the prospect of sending a team to yet another tournament, it fell to national team manager Saad Kaykali to convince him that Adab should take a stab at this tournament. With the oldest members of the senior national team already reaching age 35, Kaykali felt that the World Cup of Masters was an opportunity to give them even more playing time – in addition to the Independents Cup – to prepare them for the grueling task of another World Cup qualification process. As for the rest of Adab’s team for the World Cup of Masters, Kaykali proposed having the staff play in the team along with some other selected over-35s to make up the numbers, in a move that was half publicity stunt and half nostalgia, considering that nearly all of them were once players themselves. Finally, Kaykali proposed that all proceeds from Adabian radio, television, and Internet broadcasts of Cup matches be donated to institutions of the AFA’s choosing, with a focus on institutions aiding seniors and those with life-threatening/terminal illnesses. Though he still had misgivings regarding the project, Araqasdah agreed.

KIT
Image

The national team's kits, designed by Ahmad Enlil (the first President of the Football Association) in 1907, are currently manufactured by Shining Sun Company, owned by Rahman Ashurbanipal, businessman and grandson of Emperor Tizqar III.

STAFF
Player-manager: Saad KAYKALI - Male – born January 20, 1974 (age 60)
Manager Kaykali takes to the field for the first time in 25 years since the end of his club career.

Player-assistant manager: Inimabakesh THULUS- Male – born March 28, 1967 (age 67)
A friend of Kaykali from their playing days at Baghdad City, Inimabakesh Thulus is back at his post as assistant manager of the senior national team – as well as the over-35 national team – and agreed, for the sake of nostalgia, to join the latter squad despite his advanced age.

Player-assistant manager: Rashid ABBAS - Male – born February 15, 1987 (age 47)
Formerly a star player in the island country of Faraby, now an associated state of Adab, Abbas is determined to do all he can to help the team and prove that he has earned his position by merit, and not merely as a gesture of appeasement from the AFA to its Farabian counterpart.

Player-general coach: Yitzhak BENNETT - Male – born September 20, 1976 (age 57)
Variously described as quiet, active, calm, and attentive, Bennett is very much respected by the players, who admire his work ethic, loyalty to the national team, and willingness to listen to them. Having kept himself very much in shape since the end of his playing days, Bennett feels that he still has a little bit to offer on the field and quickly agreed to join the over-35 squad as a player.

Player-goalkeeping coach: Faishal AR-RASHID - Male – born August 14, 1978 (age 55)
Regarded, much like Bennett, as a stabilizing influence in the national team, ar-Rashid is particularly close – thanks to his job - to goalkeeper Mohammed Marramzi and is understood to be one of the latter’s few confidants.

Player-physio: Hamza RIDHA - Male – born January 15, 1983 (age 51)
A longtime friend of both Kaykali and Thulus. Widely respected by fellow staff and players for the understated way by which he performs his job.

STARTING LINEUP
GK: 1 – Mohammed MARRAMZI - Male – born March 15, 1999 (age 35) - Baghdad City - 0 goals (Captain)
The Captain, as he is often called by the other players in the senior national team, continues to show that he is still capable of playing at the highest level and enjoys the full confidence of manager Kaykali.

LB: 2 – Inimabakesh THULUS – Male – born March 28, 1967 (age 67) – 0 goals
The assistant manager last played a competitive game more than twenty-five years ago, but believes that he is still capable of playing the over-35 game. “I may not be able to attack,” he said, “but I still believe I can do a pretty good job at defense.

CB: 3 – Shamsidad NAHMOUD – Male – born February 14, 1999 (age 35) – Baghdad United – 0 goals
A veteran of the World Cup 81 cycle, Nahmoud was seriously considered for the revived national team by Kaykali following their thirteen-year hiatus, but his skills and mobility had declined somewhat and in any case Kaykali and the AFA needed to make more room for women and minority groups in the squad, and thus they reluctantly passed Nahmoud over. Nevertheless Kaykali still has faith in the old defender and does not hesitate to call him up to the over-35 squad.

CB: 4 – Eliyahu REMEZ – Male – born January 20, 1981 (age 53) – 0 goals
Saad Kaykali’s longtime lawyer has been given the opportunity to play for the over-35 squad as a gesture of thanks from the manager, despite having no prior footballing experience.

RB: 5 – Faishal AR-RASHID – Male – born August 14, 1978 (age 55) – 0 goals
With the goalkeeper position already taken, the goalkeeping coach settled for right-back, a position in which he had had some experience in high school and university, although he ended up switching permanently to goalkeeper for his professional career.

LM: 6 – Hamza RIDHA – Male – born January 15, 1983 (age 51) – 0 goals
The player-physio insists that being on the pitch will not hamper his work as physio. “If anyone is injured I can attend to him straight away,” he stated, “and I’ve also got my guys on standby on the side of the pitch in case anything happens.”

CM: 7 – Saad KAYKALI – Male – born January 20, 1974 (age 60) – 0 goals
While he made his name as a forward with Baghdad City, where he played from 1992 to 2008, the manager shifted to the midfield for his return to the pitch, aware that his advancing age and loss of speed meant that he could no longer lead the offense, and that at 60 he would not be expected to do so anyway.

RM: 8 – Ephraim ORLEV - Male – born April 18, 1999 (age 35) - Mosul - 0 goals
A veteran from the World Cup 81 cycle, Orlev remains an integral part of the senior national team who can be relied upon to drive forward the team’s hallmark counterattacks, and it was an easy decision by Kaykali to include him in both the senior and over-35 squads.

LAM/LW: 9 – Yitzhak BENNETT – Male – born September 20, 1976 (age 57) – 0 goals
The general coach of the senior national team returns to the pitch as a left attacking midfielder/left winger for the over-35 team. He had played as a striker and attacking midfielder during his club career, and since then has kept himself remarkably fit and agile, particularly for a man his age.

RAM/RW: 10 – Rashid ABBAS – Male – born February 15, 1987 (age 47) – 0 goals
The Faraby legend makes his debut appearance for his new country, years after he had ceased playing professionally. “We’re trying to be realistic here,” Abbas said. “It’ll be a long, hard road for us in this tournament, but we’re determined to do our best.”

CF: 11 – Enlilbani YARGAB - Male – born April 21, 1999 (age 35) - Baghdad City - 0 goals (Vice Captain)
Widely regarded as the greatest Adabian player of all time, the backbone of the national team, Yargab is not as fast as he used to be, yet he remains as explosive a striker as ever and his abilities have otherwise barely diminished. He looks forward to the World Cup of Masters as additional training and playing time, helping him prepare for the next World Cup qualifiers

STADIUM
Image

Adab City Stadium, the pride and joy of Adabian football, was completed in 1940. Located in the northern part of Adab City, the stadium was able to accommodate 40,000 people at the time of its opening. Renovations in 1978 made it an all-seater stadium and expanded its capacity to 55,350. Later it increased to 75,000 following upgrades in 2009-10 and then 76,500 after another upgrade in 2019. It is currently home to the Adabian national football team and Adab City FC.

TACTICS AND FORMATION
The team will use 4-3-2-1, the "Christmas tree" formation, with an emphasis on attacking play and taking advantage of their opponents' mistakes to launch a quick counterattack, marked by rapid passing from the back four - and, if deemed safe enough, long balls - through the midfield and to the front.

Woodstock Profile
Sarzonia's capital city features the Gray House, where current President Grant Haffner lives, The Manor, where Lieutenant President and former First Gentleman Brian Patrick lives, Parliament Hall where the Sarzonian Parliament convenes, and the John Paul Stevens Building, where Sarzonia's Supreme Judicial Court presides. Unlike many countries with bicameral legislatures including a Senate, Sarzonia's House of Delegates is actually the upper chambre. Delegates are elected for no more than three two-year terms; Senators may serve no more than two six-year terms; the President may serve no more than two six-year terms.

The city also includes various museums and the Max Yasgur Centre for the Performing Arts, which is a go-to concert venue in Sarzonia and has been since the country became independent. It features a subway system that's fast and efficient and runs 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Among the more popular areas of Woodstock are the Little Catherina district, which contains the largest concentration of Delaclav ex-pats within Sarzonia and some of the best baked goods Sarzonia has to offer. The Little Timiocato neighbourhood is also very popular with Pacitalian cuisine dominant in restaurants throughout the neighbourhood.

The sporting crown jewel of Sarzonia is the Dave Wilson Athletic Complex and Dave Wilson Stadium, the national stadium of Sarzonia, which seats 105,900. Sarzonia's home matches and any knockout round matches will take place at Nottingham Pavilion, a football-specific venue seating 18,200 on the outskirts of the Athletic Complex. The final will take place at Franz Braddock Stadium, which is a lacrosse stadium seating 35,000; but temporary seating will be added if ticket sales are sufficient. It can expand to up to 44,030 seats for the final.

Nicksia Profile
Sarzonia's largest city has long been the cultural capital of The Incorporated States and is the centre of the country's creative scene. The city takes its name from Fleetwood Mac singer and solo singer-songwriter Stevie Nicks. The city boasts a population of 14.6 million people with a large district named Rhiannon that boasts an array of coffee shops, cafes, and contains a historic section with replicas of cobblestone streets. A row of taverns and pubs lines one set of streets.

The historic district includes the site of the old Nicksia Stock Exchange, which closed down in the mid-2000s when the country's financial centre moved to Portland with the ascent of the Portland Iron Works among the world's leading military contractors. The building was used for a while as a location for satellite PIW offices until the Benatar Historical Society acquired the building with funding from Sarzonia's Division of Culture. It also includes the "southern Gray House" where late founding President Mike Sarzo once convalesced after being diagnosed with cancer.

Nicksia's sporting jewels are highlighted by Mike Sarzo Stadium, a retractable roof stadium with a natural grass pitch and a transparent retractable roof that allows sunlight in to provide nourishment for the grass. The stadium has a statue of founding Sarzonian President Mike Sarzo at the main entrance on Putnam Avenue. The stadium seats 77,910 and was recently renovated with solar panels and upgraded with the latest big screens, LED displays, and free Wifi access. The newly constructed Bank of Sarzonia Arena is in competition with the venerable Palestra in Woodstock for the status of home court for the Sarzonian national basketball team.

Visitors can attend the Naval History Museum near The Pier where people traveling between Sarzonia and Delaclava can also rent motor and sailboats for day trips between the two countries. Visitors can see the USS Constitution, the oldest commissioned warship still afloat and the only commissioned warship in the Incorporated Sarzonian Navy without the ISS prefix. The ISS Rampage, a light aircraft carrier from Sarzonia's earliest days is also among the ships on display. It is surrounded by the Old Port neighbourhood with a collection of rustic-looking taverns that also includes souvenir shops.

Aficionados of live music can get their fix at the Mabel Normand Centre for the Performing Arts five nights a week. Thursday nights are open mic nights where the house band allows any aspiring musicians to try out singing live. The Crystal Visions Palace offers free music lessons to anyone regardless of age or ability. Actors can play their trade in a supportive environment at the Sea of Love Thespian Centre.

The newly built Muskegon Stadium, a 15,930-seat venue will be the site for any matches played in Nicksia.

Portland Profile
The home of the venerable Portland Iron Works, a defence contractor that originally sold naval ships, but became large enough to acquire the Wilmington Shipyard Corporation, which sold hospital ships and other logistics supplies, among other contractors. The city became the financial capital with the continued ascent of the PIW, and moved to the Portland Stock Exchange building, which is the centrepiece of the city's Finance District. Guided tours for countries friendly to Sarzonia are available for a fee. The Portland Iron Works building has a statue of its first CEO, Admiral Barbara Tucker in front of it. The street for the PIW campus is named Admiral Tucker Boulevard.

The city also has an Old Port area, featuring a large collection of boating for people who want to take boats out for fishing or for just being on the open water. Some of the country's prime seafood restaurants call the Old Port home. A highly advanced light rail shuttles people between Portland itself and the growing neighbouring city Corcorran, which was named after the Delaclav city that is the largest city near Sarzonia.

The city just finished construction on a brand new Iron Bowl to replace the venerable structure that once hosted Sarzonian football home matches. The building seats 70,165 for football.

Charter Field will be the venue for any matches taking place in Portland. It seats 17,120.

Wilmington Profile
The city that was once at the forefront of shipbuilding industry in Sarzonia on the strength of the Pasteur-class hospital ships that were its backbone, Wilmington has evolved into an eclectic city representing a wide variety of Sarzonian life. It's best known for its shipping and beachfront areas, along with hospitality that's second to few places within Sarzonia. Wilmington also is a major presence in Sarzonia's sporting history with it being among the "big four" of Sarzonian sports cities. Wilmington will host knockout round fixtures at Shipyard Stadium, which seats 62,758, but capacity for the Jenna Raven Cup will be 16,922.

Cultural Notes

Sarzonians are polite, but can be a little reserved and sometimes aloof when they meet strangers. However, once they get to know people, they can open up and let their guard down.

The currency in Sarzonia is the Sarzonian dollar. There is no $1 bill. The one dollar coin has a picture of founding President Mike Sarzo on the obverse. It is subdivided into 100 cents. Each stadium has a bank that allows for currency exchanges from your currency to the Sarzonian dollar. The three most common currencies exchanged for Sarzonian dollars are the Isselmerian-Nielander lethse, the Pacitalian douro and fouta, and the Delaclav karsika and cent.

When It Was History

Type: POV, Short Story
Time: -

POV: Kristian Johansson
Rangers FC 3 - 3 Napoliera, Champions League Final, 114th Minute

It was near the end of the extra time in the 2029 Champions League final. I was playing as Goalkeeper, i had conceded three goals, and my teammates also scored three. It was a make or break situation. Opposing Napoliera player, Farega Benotacci, shot the ball to the bottom left, i dived for it. But, the ball had went under my body, and went in. Goal for Napoliera. And now, the burden will be placed on me.

Rangers FC 3 - 4 Napoliera, Champions League Final, Full Time.

I and my teammates were so close, yet so far. Fate was and will always be cruel, isn't it? All my life i had worked to reach this final moments, yet i let it slip by the in-betweens of my fingers. But, this story was years ago, back when i was still properly playing. Now, i am just a man, being head coach for a team of my generational players that are still playing in for glory. How times had changed... Everything was so simple back in the olden days. I wish i can go back in time to win the Rangers that Champions League trophy, but what's past is past. And i won't change that fact, not anytime soon.

When i was still playing, everyday and everynight i was always reminded by that one mistake i made. My teammates were fine, as mistakes happen, they say. But the general populace was very ignorant and blind to the hardships we goalkeepers face, and everyday i was ridiculed by them on the internet. I was never able to escape it, and even today few people still remind me of it. I was not a player anymore, so being a coach was the only way if i want to disprove them, and just like that day, i will try my best, no matter the cost.

No matter the cost.

Sarzonia Senior Stars

ImageImageImage
Note: Home kits have a primarily navy colour scheme; away kits are primarily white; keeper kits are green.

Style Modifier: +1
Permissions: No killing, no major injuries. Otherwise, yes

Manager Tyrone Manningham, 66
Manningham retired 20 years ago after a career as a manager in the Sarzonian Football Confederation, leaving after his team failed to advance to the Cyanea Joint League for three consecutive seasons. Prior to that, his teams advanced from fourth division through to the SFC in six years.

Assistant Manager Jill Nelsen, 44
This is her first international competition after serving as a manager in the Sarzonian Football League, which was absorbed into the SFC. The SFC has just announced it will launch under the name Sarzonian Football League. Nelsen will work with the offensive side of the football.

Goalkeepers Coach Troy Perkins, 47
The starting goalkeeper on the first Sarzonian national football team, Perkins agreed to come back to help out with this seniors team.

ROSTER (staters in bold}

GOALKEEPERS
1 Will Brantley, 5'11" 165 pounds, 39
Brantley was the starting goalkeeper on the last Sarzonian national football team prior to its 27-Cup absence from the international stage.

27 Joel A'Hearn, 6'2" 225 pounds, 37
A'hearn was projected to be a future starting goalkeeper for the Stars prior to the country's decision to enter into a period of isolation. He retired from the SFC a couple of years ago but decided to keep his skills sharp in a recreational football league.

DEFENDERS
2 Kenny Lagerwey 6-foot-1, 200 pounds, 42
Once among the fastest players to ever play defence for Sarzonia, a combination of the natural effects of aging and a torn ACL in his left knee has slowed him down signifcantly.

4 Jill Arians, 5-foot-11, 155 pounds, 42
Arians only recently started playing football again after dropping out of college to take care of her parents when they fell ill. She leaves two young children with their father to compete for the Senior Stars.

8 Bill Wescott, 6-foot-4, 230 pounds, 49
Still big and bruising, although the sheer muscle he had at the height of his playing career has morphed a little bit into a beer gut.

23 Aiden Yang, 5-foot-10, 195 pounds, 38
Yang is the son of an entrepreneur who is looking to establish a senior football league in Sarzonia and both Yangs hope success in the World Cup of Masters will lead to a successful establishment of such a league.

14 Zoey Lawson, 5-foot-9, 145 pounds, 40
Lawson played for Sarzonia's women's league up until the day it halted operations. She still has speed and instincts.

19 Dave Spencer D 6'5", 250 pounds, 44
Big and brawny, Spencer also plays a rather physical style that can knock midfielders and forwards off their game. Trying to round his way back into playing shape after a lengthy retirement brought on by Sarzonia's period of isolation.

MIDFIELDERS
5 Tim Rodney 5'9 150 pounds, 45
Rodney played bigger than his height. On the New Jerusalem Nobles, he played a rugged fullback when the team plays a 3-5-2, but played as a defensive midfielder in a 4-4-2 alignment when the team suffered several injuries among its defensive players. With Sarzonia adopting a more attack-oriented team, he shifts up to play midfield.

9 Ettore Salivani, Jr. 5'10 155 pounds, 41
The son of former Sarzonia national team standout and Pacitalian emigre Ettore Salivani, the younger Salivani retains his father's flair, but also picked up on his mother's preternatural calm. He also has outstanding ball skill and is surprisingly adept as a defensive player.

15 Brad Tremblay 5'9 162 pounds, 38
Tremblay, 26, had trouble sticking with a team in the SFC before finally finding a home with the Portland Timbers. He is arguably the fastest player on the Stars and fires the hardest shot on the team, but his shot is not all that accurate.

20 Colin Rudolph 6'2", 215 pounds, 39
A blend of physicality and skill once gave Rudolph, a tryout with the Stars when they last hosted a World Cup. He earned it through his chemistry with other players on the squad.

7 Bill Carson, 6-foot-5, 210 pounds, 47
Carson is a pacey player even at his age, and has ball skills that would have made him a great fit for a SFC team back in the day, but alcoholism prevented him from ever seeing the pitch. He has been sober for eight years.

18 Francis Carter-Wiggins, 5-foot-5, 140 pounds, 40
Another player from Sarzonia's now-defunct women's league, she looks to be an offensive substitute when the Senior Stars need a playmaking middie.

FORWARDS
10 Zack Wilson, 6'0 213 pounds, 45
The son and grandson of Stars legends Brian and Dave Wilson developed some of his father's flair for the dramatic and led the SFC in goal scoring with 28 goals for the Portland Timbers. Pacey player who spends a lot of time in the weight room. Very difficult for smaller defenders to bring down. Currently serves as the Incorporated Football Federation chairman and is the father of Clayton Wilson.

17 Matt Lynch, 6'3", 205 pounds[/b], 43
The World Cup Hall of Fame striker was the top scorer for the Sarzonian national team during its AOCAF XIX appearance. His tall, lithe frame makes him an inviting target for more aggressive players who invariably find out he can take and dish out punishment.

25 Emilio Ruiz, 5-foot-11, 185 pounds, 37
Brings energy and pace off the substitute's bench. Pure target player.

44 Joanne Carter-Walsh, 5-foot-3, 135 pounds, 41
More of a skill forward than Ruiz, she will also be looked at for a midfield role if needed.

A team needs quality and effective strikers. As we know, there are many types of strikers in football, but we can break them down into two main ones, namely modern or classic strikers. Whatever type of striker exists at the moment, a striker should exhibit an effective touch as often the responsibility to score a goal is on his shoulders although other positions can also be assigned a role. 100ball has contacted the former national squad and now Hundredstar WORLD CUP OF MASTER's striker, Joel De Clare to ask for tips and also secrets to be an effective striker, and here are 7 tips that he shared with all

Practice goal netting through shots, cross passes, or dribbling
A quality striker can not only score goals in one way or method. The ability to score goals from various angles must also be possessed by the striker to diversify the touch of his goal in the match.

Have to think fast
This is one of the important aspects for a striker according to De Clare. A striker should be quick to think when on the field especially when in front of a goal. If it is slow to think, it will disturb his touch.

There must be a plan
What that means is, every striker should look and plan far ahead, that is, before receiving the ball at his feet. So, his job will be easy once he sees what he will do after receiving the ball.

Need to dare to take risks
According to De Clare again, an effective striker must be brave to take risks to make attempts, especially in the penalty box. Whatever form of opportunity comes his way, he must be prepared to end it

Lots of practice in front of the penalty box
This is one of the things he has practiced before. What he did was do the exercise 10 times in a row and made it in three sets each day. This will strengthen an attacker's shot so that it becomes more cohesive.

Precise shooting training
According to De Clare, it is his routine to put marks at the top and bottom corners of the goal. While in the training session, the player who once plays abroad will try to aim his shot at the mark.

'Extra training' before and after training
This is common to great players such as the Hundredstar legend and national coach, Harris Bainbridge, and also the national football legend, Reid Colson. As a striker, this extra training is definitely for honing the finishing touches.,

One thing is clear for Sarzonia's over-35 national football team manager Tyrone Manningham as the team ended its training camp and began preparations for the home opener against Qasden.

There will be a new champion of the NS World Cup of Masters. Delaclava opted not to send a team to defend its title from the third World Cup of Masters. Sarzonia won the inaugural edition, then lost to Kriegiersien in the final in the second, but didn't even make it to the knockout rounds in the third edition.

Manningham said the group stage elimination last time out would motivate the team to play harder in the fourth edition.

"I think we got caught believing our hype a little too much," he said. "We needed some humble pie and we got a big dose of it last time."

Having the opener be against Qasden would likely help in that regard, as Sarzonia and Qasden are regional rivals, even though they haven't had a long history in the World Cup of Masters. Then again, the only country with significant history against Sarzonia in this competition is Kriegiersien, who lost to the Stars 4-0 in the first final and defeated the Stars in the second. The other opponents for Sarzonia in Group A are Adab and Garbelia. Kriegiersien will headline a Group B that includes Atheara, Hundredstar and The Jovannic. Multi-sport rivals Abanhfleft lead the way in Group C, joined by The Togolese Republic, Raspotochje and Malandrin. Group D features HUElavia, Soldera, Democratic Unionist Cool Kids and Eshialand.

For Incorporated Football Federation Chairman Zack Wilson, also a starting forward for the Senior Stars, Manningham's status as manager was never in question even though the Stars failed to advance to the knockout stages.

"We're not going to overreact to one bad tournament," Wilson said. "This is a team that's established a successful pedigree at this level of the sport, and firing a manager after one bad World Cup of Masters is premature."

Wilson said the newly founded Sarzonian Senior Football Alliance would play an exhibition match between the Woodstock Renegades and the Portland Kingfishers prior to the match against Qasden. Six players from the Senior Stars are expected to be on the rosters of the two clubs, but they will not be playing in the exhibition.

"We don't want to risk injury by having the Renegades and the Kingfishers on this roster playing in that match before a qualifier," Wilson, who opted not to compete in the league said. "The coaches want to see their players compete and see what the appetite is for senior football as a whole."

Hackworth Reunion Port

NEW GOLD MINING SITE CONNECT TO SEA PORT
__________

Hackworth - Hackworth city’s government estimated the construction of a road between the Lancerbrook gold-copper deposit and the Hackworth seaport in the region’s east coast at $608 million, the Hackworth city’s Head of the Transport, Communications and Road Department Stuart Palmcutter said on Wednesday during a meeting with Hundredstar’s Deputy Minister of Transport Ms. Jessica Spinas. The priority is to finish building the road, which will be 250 km long and will connect the Keeperbond village with the deposit. According to Palmcutter, this task is in line with an order from Hundredstariann ex-PM Dr. Baygents to consider this project. The deposit is scheduled to start operating in 2022.

The Hernwell Valley area in Hackworth, of which Lancerbrook is a part, is rich in resources with 23 million tonnes of copper and 2,000 tonnes (64.3 million ounces) of gold. Lancerbrook holds 9.5 million tonnes of copper and 16.5 million ounces of gold. The mine is expected to reach an annual output of 148,000 tonnes of copper and 275,500 ounces of gold, where for the first decade the output would be 250,000 tonnes of copper and 400,000 ounces of gold a year.

The seaport in Hackworth covers 19 to 23 hectares for cargo storage, which would be necessary for developing new deposits and for constructing an energy plant from the East-coast town of Burndell. The cargo turnover is due to growing starting in 2019 when the port is expected to receive additional construction materials for cultivating the Lowerbrook, Klendisbrook, and Lancerbrook gold deposits. The seaport’s annual cargo turnover is 250,000 tonnes.

Hundredstar Masters player, Harris Lovett was a deputy mayor of this goldmine city of Hackworth. Reelect for two terms, Lovett's involvement in a youth football atmosphere in Hackworth is prominent, as he owns a youth team known as Hackworth Young Miners FC.

This Can't End Badly

Mancodas, Poafmersia

The members of the Eshian National Soccer Team find themselves in an odd situation ahead of their match against Felinetopia. They never expected to be in this position, but yet, they were one bad result from almost certain elimination before the group stage could even start. On top of that, the idea that former Jenna Raven Cup coach Glinda Monaghan would be getting a coaching job again shook them to their cores, and that only made them appreciate their current coach even more than they already did... they had to do something to cheer him up and show him that they cared, but what exactly?

"Um, Coach?" Alice had an idea.
"Yes Alice?"
"I was just wondering, when was the last time you played soccer?"
"Why would you be wondering that?"
"Well, the Sarzonians were putting on a tournament for, um, more experienced players like you, and I was just thinking..."
"Ha ha ha, my playing days are sadly long behind me... thanks for thinking about me, but I'm perfectly happy where I am now."
"Uh, okay then..."

As Coach continued to watch his team practice, however, he kept thinking about the tournament. It would be nice to get back onto the pitch one last time... but there was no way he could actually do that, right?

Right?

"Uh, Alice? Could you come talk to me for a second?"
"Sure, what is it?"
"Why don't you tell me a bit more about that tournament you mentioned?"
Her eyes widened as she heard this question. "Really? Well..."

One month later in REDACTED, HUElavia...

"Wow, I never thought I'd actually be here again..."
"You and me both, Kenny..." fellow starting midfielder Paul Racke replied. "How do you think we're gonna do?"
"Do you want the optimistic coach answer or the honest friend answer?"
"You know we're still friends, even if it's been a while..."
"Honestly, against HUElavia, we probably won't do well... I have high hopes against Soldera and the Democratic Unionist Cool Kids though."
"You don't think we can do well against HUElavia? Do you even remember the '02 Owls*, and how we tore up the league together?"
"Yeah, but I also remember the '09 Owls, when we were absolutely annihilated... and that says nothing about these other team members!"
"Please, we're a great team and you're a great player and coach, Kenny. Stop doubting whether you can still play and just play!"

Wait, was Paul giving him the same advice he had been giving the National Team this entire time?

"You're right, Pauly. I should just be having fun!"
"That's the spirit!"

*OOC: I can't, in good conscience, reference a pre-Eshian soccer team without talking a bit about their history. One of the precursors to the modern Eshialand Soccer League was the Canadian Super Cup, first contested in 1968 among 10 teams, one from each province. The team from Ontario was originally known as the Toronto Generals, though this name was changed to the Toronto Owls in 1975.

The Owls consistently remained a mid-tier team as the league grew from 10 to 16 to eventually 24 teams, except for two championships in 1983 and 1986. That was, until the late 1990's, as the team experienced a meteoric rise on the backs of young stars like Kenny and Paul, culminating in championships in 2002, 2004, and 2005, with the 2002 edition being especially memorable thanks to their 32-5-7 regular season. Sadly, they experienced a collapse after their 2005 championship, and the 2009 season that Kenny referenced was especially infamous for their abysmal 9-11-24 record.

When Eshialand declared its independence, the Toronto Owls, then rechristened the Eshialand City Owls upon the city's renaming, ceased their participation in the Canadian Super Cup, 2016 being their last season. Then, they participated in the original Eshialand Soccer League for its four seasons, with Jake Harran and company nearly winning them the 2020 championship.

The establishment of the Eshialand Soccer Federation in 2021 led to a reset of the Eshialand Soccer League, with the Owls, after 53 seasons of play, being made victims of this reset. Most of their assets were claimed by the Eshialand City Royals, who many fans consider to be the natural continuation of the franchise, but they do not claim the history of the Owls and Generals before them.

Keeping The Group Closed

Type: Game Review
Time: After MD1

FULL TIME RESULTS
Atheara 3 - 0 The Jovannic

Gordon Bordanian (23' ; 45') Kirdan Muronovitch (75') / None

The first match of the fourth edition of the NationStates World Cup of Masters is here. And Atheara starts with an opening banger with a victory by a resounding scoreof 3 - 0 against The Jovannic. With this victory, by table standings, Atheara is second, behind Krigiersien, as they had defeated Hundredstar with a massive scoreline of 5 - 1. And would you have it, the next match is in fact against Hundredstar.

Gordon Bordanian gave the match an opening bang with a screamer of a goal on the 23rd minute that gave Atheara the 1 - 0 lead. He would also score just before the announcement of stoppage time for the firt half, this time it was a tap in with a cross from Adiri Fernandes Evans. This 2 - 0 lead would indefinitely last until the 75th minute, where Kirdan Muronovitch scored a freekick on that mark. The match then proceeds to end with a 3 - 0 Athearan victory. This gave the team more confidence, especially for the defense.

Krisitian was happy, to say the least. If this performance continues, he would certainly be considered back to the National Team as Head Coach. This time, he would do everything properly. As for the match in more detail, Atheara kept the defense shut and sound, to keep the group as closed as possible. Afterall, defense is an Athearan specialty. The Jovannic had several chances to make it 3 - 1 or 3 - 2, but their shots bounced off the post, just like what Atheara usually experiences.

Next match against Hundredstar, Atheara prepares to go in with a banger again.

Currently, player agents are an important part of a footballer's career. Most all professional players also use the services of agents in their careers. Citing 100Ball, an agent in football is a representative and intermediary who deals with the interests of one or several players. One of the duties of a football player's agent is to act as an intermediary in transfers and contract negotiations. However, the agent's job is not only this. The duties and responsibilities of the agent include: Negotiating contracts to achieve the best results for clients. Securing lucrative endorsements and sponsorship deals. Organize appearances on television, radio, and other media. Provide offers to reporters to gain interview access to players.

In Hundredstar, there are now many soccer player agents, one of which is Rex Stromberg . Although classified as a newcomer agent, Stromburgh has successfully brought in several foreign players who are able to perform well in the Hundredstarian League. One of them is Peter Welch, a defensive midfielder from Oakwood Landing who showed good performance with Bledllyn FC in 2019. This year, several of Stromburgh's clients have also joined Liga 1 clubs. For example, Rudi Fouche and Morne Le Roux at Holmlock FC, Newt Solomon Longhurst (University de Wotpoot FC), and Julian Mortimer Price (Duncanshire FC). In an interview with 100Ball.com in early July, Stromburgh explained how a football agent works. In the process of finding players who will later become clients, an agent has a database that is updated every two months.

"If I look for it (the player) does have a database . Every two months his status is updated , how is he playing at the club now, is he still playing or not, how is he doing, injured or not. For example, like that," said Stromburgh. "In addition, data updates are also like statistics and videos. How can we get them? First, I have overseas connections who are familiar with player scouts and agents there." "When they get to know them, the player will recommend to other players (his friends). 'There is Stromburgh's agent from Hundredstar'. Then they contacted me." "Secondly, we have paid software that contains a database of players around the world. This is not accessible to everyone, only coaches, players, agents, and clubs. We have to contact the administrator to create an account on the software and then select it first. ," said Stromberg. When it finds a good player in its database, an agent's next step is to communicate with the scout for verification.

"We have partner agents and scouts in many countries and we have to trust that person. In addition to skill, they also see attitude. If it is OK all, we are directly in touch, direct telephone," Stromburgh said. Furthermore, Stromburgh revealed that there were many factors in the process of finding players to getting a contract at the club. "Yes, there are coach and club instincts as well. For example, I have a new player at Shaftegill FC (Brock Lockhart). I have offered several clubs and were interested, but finally chose Shaftegill," said the man from Bledllyn. "So all the elements play a role, not just me," he added. Stromburgh also explained that clubs and agents are dynamic in terms of recruiting players.

"So sometimes it's me who asks or they (the club) who ask," Stromburgh said.

Scratchington hat-trick helps old Otters thwart Adab in opening match.

Garbelia 3 (L. Scratchington 34, 56, 71) - 0 Adab

Garbelia's opening match against Adab looked tough on paper, and both teams spent the first half hour weighing the other's ability, neither daring to strike first. In the end, Lutra Scratchington made a skillful dribble into the box and a low shot that easily beat the goalkeeper Marramzi. Adab had their fair share of chances, but Garbelery goalkeeping legend Otta Trootzon seemed to extend across the goal. After half time, Otti Otta and Mewsle Fishor exchanged passes down the middle, before the centre forward played the ball out to Oti Rivered. She played a cutback across goal and Lutra Scratchington struck the ball convincingly into top corner. She completed her trio 15 minutes later, with a long shot through a crowd of defenders and into Adab's net. A convincing victory.

Zack Wilson would normally have been in the press room announcing that Sarzonian national team manager Nathan Hanifer was having the "interim" tag removed and was now the permanent full-time manager of the team.

He would have been, except for one thing. He was too busy lacing on his boots and a Sarzonia kit from long ago kit designers ediraf.

He was also busy scoring the match-winning goal in the 87th minute as the Sarzonian over-35 national football team slipped past Qasden in front of a Dave Wilson Stadium crowd of 85,983, a record for the Senior Stars in a group stage match.

"It felt great to be able to contribute to a good team victory," Wilson said. "That was a hard-fought match and I'm glad we were able to get a good result."

Qasden got on the scoresheet first when their playmaking midfielder evaded defender Kenny Lagerwey and fired a shot that Senior Stars goalkeeper Will Brantley was able to parry away. Unfortunately for the Senior Stars netminder, the ball caromed off his glove and onto the forehead of Qasden's ace striker for an easy tap that gave the visitors the 1-0 lead at the 11-minute mark.

Sarzonia opted to retain their regular possession game as opposed to pushing numbers forward for an equaliser, a decision manager Tyrone Manningham said was deliberate.

"We want to make sure we get good looks on offence and not try to be something we're not," he said. "If that were 60 minutes later in the match, we maybe make a different decision."

The Stars went to a more attack-minded lineup to start the second half with midfielder Bill Carson substituting for Lagerwey as Sarzonia essentially adopted a 3-5-2 formation. The move would pay dividends in the 59th minute as Carson won a ball in midfield and made his own run at a Qasden defender to draw him and two others toward him before sending a through ball to Matt Lynch. The World Cup Hall of Famer then banged home a laser of a shot to draw the score level.

"I saw a chance to get Mattie open and I took full advantage of it," Carson said.

Lynch would also play a role in the match-winning sequence, as he intercepted a clear attempt by a Qasden defender and held the ball until Wilson could beat the offside trap. When he struck the ball, Wilson was able to get past the defenders and fire the shot past the Qasden goalkeeper.

The Senior Stars will face Adab, who lost to Garbelia 3-0 in the other Group A match.

Back Out There
HUElavia 1-2 Eshialand

While there certainly is something to be said for playing in a tournament with the eyes of your nation upon you, there's nothing quite like being able to play without anybody noticing. There's no pressure from a nation full of fans, just you and your team playing the game your love.

That's exactly why Kenny Morgan entered his team into the tournament relatively secretly. Why add the extra stress when it's just supposed to be a fun time?

As the match began, it was a bit hard to get back into form for the team. After all, many of them hadn't played real soccer in years, so this was completely expected. Also as expected, striker REDACTED opened the scoring for HUElavia by kicking the ball high over Monica Ashe-Reay's head, making it 1-0 for the home team in the 31st minute.

The second half, however, seemed to tell a different story, as the Senior Owls experienced a true return to form, with Lucy Barrington tying it up in the 52nd.

All signs pointed to this match ending in a 1-1 draw, with that even being the score at the beginning of stoppage time, but something happened in the second of the three added minutes that would change all of that.

Jessica Lathion would swipe the ball from left winger REDACTED as they were lining up to shoot, and yelled out to Kenny, telling him to get open. He wasn't sure quite what to do, what with everything serving on his shoulders now, but he took the ball anyway and just tried. What happened next? Well, he ran as best he could towards the goal and shot it... past goalkeeper REDACTED and into the goal! It was his first real goal in nearly ten years, and it felt great. He felt whole again, like this part of his life that had been missing for so long was finally there, right where it belonged. He felt like a soccer player again.

After the match, he talked to Paul once again, and he had one thing to tell him:

"I told you that you're still a great player."

HUElavia - 1 (REDACTED 31')
Eshialand - 2 (Barrington 52'; Morgan 90+2')

Hundredstar Masters coach, Leo Artemis stressed that the pattern of the game displayed by his players was not as planned after struggling to create a 3-2 victory over Athear in the NS World Cup of Masters IV Group B at the Mike Sarzo Stadium, yesterday.

He said, what was displayed by his players, especially in the first half, looked so nervous and often made mistakes that made it easier for Athear to balance the pattern of the game so that they have an advantages over us.

“It was a difficult action in the 35 minutes of the first half although we controlled the game and movement but there were only a few mistakes at the end of the first half, Athear took the opportunity to control a game.

"Opponents showed a well -organized pattern of play and defended so well that we had a hard time breaking down their fortifications. However, we were aware of what was happening and when the action continued, the players seemed to want to bounce back from a less convincing performance in the first half," he said.

DEMOCRATIC REPUBLIC OF ABANHFLEFT
NATIONAL ASSOCIATION FOOTBALL TEAM - OVER 35'S

Bottle jobs in their prime, bottle jobs beyond it. Thus is the story of Abanhfleft. The more things change, the more they stay the same. When will this country learn?

BASIC INFORMATION
Name of nation: Democratic Republic of Abanhfleft
Demonym: Fleftic
Team colors: Blue, orange, and green
Style modifier: +3.25
Formation: 3-2-3-2
Manager: Heinrich Wurzmann (73 y/o, Abanhfleft/Pridnestrovia)

GK: Victoria Claire CARTER 50 y/o
Victoria Carter is to the Abanhfleft women's football team what Ferdinand Abbing is to the Pridnestrovian men's national football team: the familiar and ever-dependable shotstopping presence in between the sticks. Not as athletic as Abbing, mind, but for someone who's been out of the professional game for ten years she can still go a good job as goalkeeper.

RB: Claire Claudia OSGOOD 46 y/o

CB: Seraphina Dawn JACKSON 46 y/o

LB: Jordana Gabriella VALENTINE 45 y/o

RM: Isabella Evanilda MAYNARD 49 y/o

LM: Lea Yoon-hee CHOI 42 y/o

RW: Lilliana Esther PRESCOTT 45 y/o

CAM: Mary Jane Allison TORRES 45 y/o

LW: Adelaide Savitri SINGH 45 y/o

CF: Helen Chelsea STUART 45 y/o
Chelsea Stuart is one of the best goalscorers in the history of the APOC Coalition, and she could very well be the best woman to play football in Abanhfleft. She also could have been one of the best in the whole multiverse were it not for her loyalty to her club Arsenal de Releinthi and the general reluctance of the Samahang Futbol ng Abanhfleft to let its first generation of national team players to venture out into the greater multiverse.

CF: Alexandra Margarita Magdalena ROUSSEAU 45 y/o
She may be married to Leo Baxter and is the mother of their two children Miranda and Leo Junior, but Alexandra Rousseau can still create enough space for either herself or another teammate to score a goal. Maybe having two kids has something to do with this.

RESERVES
GK: Patricia Mae Willemar FOULKE 49 y/o

Home?
Eshialand 1-0 Soldera

When you're trying to have fun and play some soccer without the eyes of the nation upon you, three home matches are about the last thing you need. It's just a fact. Oddly though, the first home match against Soldera wouldn't really feel like a home match.

Their three home matches would be played, not in a mega-stadium like the Eshialand City SuperDome, but rather in the Tim Wilkins Stadium, a far smaller stadium that usually only seats 15,000, or at least it did when it was in use. The stadium now tends to sit unoccupied, with there having been no team or recurring event that used it since the SuperDome opened.

This tournament would go unadvertised, so ticket sales would be rather low for each match, and the atmosphere would harken back to the early days of Eshian and pre-Eshian soccer: an underfunded team with few fans playing in front of a small, apathetic group of spectators with a couple of hours to kill. And the team wouldn't have it any other way, since that meant that the pressure was off of them. They could relax.

The match was about as quiet as the attendees, with only one goal from Andrew Fynton separating the winners from the losers. This win gave Eshialand a 2-0-0 record only shared with Kriegiersien, but that didn't matter. The players didn't want to check the other results, since all they cared about was playing one match at a time and having fun doing so.

Their next match will be at home against the 0-1-1 Democratic Unionist Cool Kids, in which a win would almost guarantee the Senior Owls a ticket to the quarterfinals. Again though, that doesn't matter.

All that matters is having fun.

Eshialand - 1 (Fynton 25')
Soldera - 0
