Doesn't mean anything other than them hoping there being something left to latch on to. But yeah, this is not still a thing nor did I ever think the party would fall due to this. I mean, protests have occurred numerous times in the Soviet Union and most were suppressed quickly.

That being said, I will defend the former protesters against claims that they're western agents, etc. I also doubt Cuba is democratic with the exception of the local levels. The U.S. isn't even a Democracy and we have more choices at the ballot box.

Neoconservatism is a threat to world peace, and I do not trust your strain of communism or left-wing thought. I know neocons do not have my (or most people's) best interests at heart, but I do not think a Cuban style government would either.

The main issue with climate change is that it's been articulated within a modern context to allow it to be marketable to dispel fears temporarily. One has to wonder how many people will have to needlessly die before it becomes evident that the present economic apparatus isn't working.

Well, too bad, because unless they represent more or less every nation, I don't like large entities bossing around the world.

The issue is that if the US doesn't intervene somewhere, some other great power will. Such as Russia or China. It is very much a case of the non-powerful countries needing to pick their poison. As much as Cuba contends, it is still geographically in the US' sphere of influence.

Russia or China intervening will be seen as a major provocation, and could lead to an escalation.

I don't think the majority of these demonstrations were astroturfed and I'm not certain there was serious support among any non-Cuban demographic for an actual intervention in Cuba. There's no need to reenact the Bay of Pigs. The PCC will likely collapse on its own if it doesn't pursue some sort of reform in the next decade. And, if it doesn't, it's not really our problem - just as the other questionable regimes in the Caribbean aren't our problem.

The main thing is that people who describe themselves as demsocs need to stop simping for Latin American autocrats, often who have pretty conservative social attitudes, in the aftermath of the Cold War. It's... weird. And antiquated. Like folks on this site have literally cheered Ortega on as he arrested people for demonstrating against austerity, including former Sandinistas.

What happened were demonstrations against mismanagement of the COVID pandemic, shortages of medical supplies and other goods, and perhaps bits of other issues filtering into the equation, as often happens when political expression is repressed in a society.
