Corporate Police State = Stupid?

Postby Shofercia » Thu May 13, 2010 4:13 pm

I was looking through Nationstates rankings, and today's category is "The Stupidest Citizens in the World". I was fairly pleased with how my nation did, 52,940/57,700 or to phrase it another way, in terms of the smartest citizens, my nation came in the top 10%.

So I went back to see who was the dumbest. And then I noticed the dumbest WA Category - Coroporate Police State. It proudly held the first 4 rankings, 6 out of the first 10 rankings, 11/20, 18/30, 23/40 and 27/50. And then I looked at the 50 nations with the smartest citizens, and I didn't find a single Corporate Police State amongst them. Most of them were leftist weirdoes.

So my question is this: Is Max crazy? Or is there something to this? Are Corporate Police States' citizens notoriously dumb? What is the reason for these rankings?

I used pronouns until the mods made using wrong pronouns warnable, so I use names instead; if you see malice there, that's entirely on you, and if pronouns are no longer warnable, I'll go back to using them

While the NS staff haven't been specifically going "Heeeeey, people from government type ___ are certainly morons and we should arrange things that way!", most likely the issue choices tend to correlate issues that produce low civil rights, low political freedoms, and high eceonomic freedoms with also producing low intelligence a bit more than the reverse. It's NOT a deliberate correlation; they just wound up that way by accident.

I played enough Rifts to know that controlling information and education is a great way to control a population.

As Max himself says, the categories in NS aren't meant to be completely accurate.

That said, it seems likely that poor education - or at least strictly controlled education - would have to be a requisite feature of a 'successful' authoritarian regime.

Corporate Police States tend to vote NO. On education funding and on education equality. They thus suffer from the effects of such votes. It would probably be possible to make a corporate police state where you always vote yes to funding education but no to every other government service.

Exactly. The government can limit and change information. Remember how Winston in 1984 was confused? And how everyone dumbly submitted? Same concept.
