That's absolutely not true. Windows is designed for certain things almost everyone (people and entities) wants, such as compatibility with old hardware/software, ease of use etc. You just don't notice it because it's good enough to be functionally transparent. There's a reason all entities and nearly all people prefer Windows over completely free alternatives.

Try operating a Linux-based distribution that doesn't try to copy windows, then come back and tell me MS doesn't know what people want.

Microsoft Windows tends to be remarkably user-friendly. Linux could also be called user-friendly, but only for a very small number of users.

Laughs in win 7.
I've been running win 7 for 12 years with 90% of updates missing (there is like 1-2 key ones I got manually, but thats it) and there has been 0 instances where something wouldnt work properly because of my lack of updates. On the contrary, since I'm on win 10, I had numerous issues running old applications that are no longer "supported".

I only got to try win 10 recently (well, about a year ago), and cant wait to get back to 7. The only changes I've found was that they went an extra mile to hide key configurations from users that I need to access and made it harder to network computers in lan, which used to be just a simple matter of connecting the 2 computers with a fiber optic cable.

Also, the win 10 file explorer takes a good 30 seconds to a minute to load in my 20 gig creative library on my external drive, which I have to sit through every time I open it just so I can see the files inside, and then takes extra time to load in any of the individual files. This win 10 is running on very powerful machine, the USB connection is 3.0, its got an 8 core processor thats only a few years old, whereas my 10 year old computer running a win 7 loads the exact same library INSTANTLY. (slow clap)

And mind you, I'm not stuck in the 90s or anything. Most of the software on both PCs is less then a year old, which I use for work and recreation. Some of these applications have similar issues as windows though. The most recent version is not always the best. The more complex the application, and the longer its been in development, the easier it is for a never version to be a downgrade in usability and performance, even if it looks fancier.

Unless I'm gonna run into the issue of something important actually not working properly because of win 7, I'll probably never update, but if that day come, I'll probably give linux a shot since loads of stuff now support it, and I dont lose hours of worktime every couple weeks because of some stupid update I didn't ask for.

Wow what a major step forward in computing, users will be exploding with joy.

But we don't know if that is something that is just a placeholder for the current Alpha Build, or if it is something that will be permanent going forward. Things learned this early need to be taken with a grain of salt.

Tl;dr it's dumb because it's just them fishing for a big reveal. To the best of my knowledge, outside of the TPM chips, there is no fundamental reason Windows 11 couldn't just be another update to Windows 10. Honestly, I genuinely think they just scrapped together some update content from the coming bi-yearly Win10 updates, put a crummy graphics side-grade on it, and are just parading it around for headlines.
