History:
In 1910, the Japanese made a surprise invasion against the Korean Empire, with the Japanese eventually conquering the entire peninsula. Of course, not many Koreans were very fond of Japan’s invasion and occupation. Early tensions between the Japanese and the Koreans would climax with large protests across the peninsula that were violently suppressed by the Japanese in 1914. Afterwards, many Korean politicians and former military leaders fled to China, where they would settle in Harbin and create the Provisional Government of the Republic of Korea. Syngman Rhee would be elected by the provisional government as its first president.

Along with the politicians, many ordinary Koreans fled into China as well, many of which would volunteer to join the official army of the provisional government, the Korean Liberation Army. This army would grow to almost 200,000 strong over time, and the men would be trained by Chinese, French, and British officers in the foothills of Manchuria during much of WW1.

The Provisional Government made plans to liberate their homeland around August 1917, though the Provisional Government has undergone a large shakeup. Syngman Rhee, who had been very critical of communism and socialism, had attempted to purge the Provisional Government of socialists. However, this would fail, as the military refused to give him support and reported Rhee’s intentions to the rest of the government. Upon this shocking development, Rhee was swiftly impeached and removed from the presidency. Jo So-ang, the Secretary of the Provisional Government, won special elections for the presidency, upsetting the Vice President.

Jo So-ang had developed rather critical views of Leninism, instead preferring a more social liberal political view. He argued that in order to achieve social democracy, equality between individuals, equality between ethnicities, as well as the equality between nations must be attained. Following this principle, he suggested that to acquire equality amongst individuals it must be through immediate political equality such as free and equal elections. Next, in his theory, he advocated for the equality between ethnicities. Equality between ethnicities would be achieved through equal economic developments and equal educational opportunities. This principle would become quite popular among the Provisional Government.

In October 1918, Jo So-ang had felt that the Liberation Army was ready, and Operation Homeland Liberation was officially authorized by the government. Late at night on November 1st, under the cover of night, the Korean Liberation Army would cross the border into northern Korea, along with government officials who weren’t too far behind. The first town to be captured was Hyesan, which was quite close to the border. The Korean forces largely outnumbered the Japanese defense garrison, and after a rather swift attack, the garrison was defeated and Hyesan was captured. Shortly afterwards, the government officials would arrive and gather in the home of one villager who allowed the government to gather in their home. In there, a Declaration of Independence from the Empire of Japan was drafted, approved, and signed by each member of the Provisional Government of the Free Democratic Republic of Korea.

After the declaration, Operation Homeland Liberation continued, with Korean troops often using guerrilla warfare to catch Japanese troops by surprise. Steadily, over the next month or so, more villages and towns in northwest Korea were captured. In January, the Korean Liberation Army went into more of a defensive campaign and dug in for winter. Now, the Liberation Army plots it’s next move, and the Provisional Government attempts to earn recognition from other countries.

Sending troops to the Imperial Council chamber under the guise of protection, he rode in after defeating the Red Guard, alongside loyal Viennese, and declared himself regent. Fearful of Kirchbach's troops and his popularity, the Imperial Coiuncil decided against abolishing the Empire and declared him regent. Kirchbach did agree, however, to make a somewhat more liberal constitution.
