Your Nation's National Parks

Postby Rupudska » Mon May 24, 2021 7:57 am

This is just a little questionnairre about your nation's national/state parks - who runs them, how they're run, what types there are, that sort of thing.

I was shocked - shocked, I do say - that there was gnot a gnelf thread for this already.

The form is pretty simple. Some questions are yes/no, but most aren't, and the ones that are are indicated as such. A few are optional, these come out in grey when you use the code. Title sections in grey mean the entire section is optional. When filling it out, though, please remove the [color= grey] tags, it looks weird otherwise.

Welcome to Grussland: The land of beer and bratwurst.
A modernized ex-communist country that chose reform instead of capitalism. It went through a period of de-communization and economic reform without the nasty crashes faced by other ex-communist countries by refusing wholesale adoptation of capitalism with basically zero transition.
Doesn't represent my views. Mostly me asking... what if East Germany, Poland, Czechoslovakia, etc had not gone down the neo-con crash capitalist route, and instituted people-oriented reforms instead?

Top 1

Maple star
Huge park with a playground, which is huge. Lights can be seen in October and November starting at 7:20 pm, and a food court is open the same time, serving various snack foods, including zoves, nachos, and Cheesy pretzels. A ferris wheel is also here, and this whole park is downright beautiful.

Basic Overview:
What is the name of the agency/service responsible for managing national parks, monuments, etc? Depending on whether the federal park/monument is natural or constructed, either the Federal Department for Natural Preservation or the Federal Department for Heritage Preservation respectively will manage the site. The FDNP is a branch under the Federal Consolidated Syndicate for Natural Resources (F.C.S. N.R.) whilst the FDHP is a branch under the Federal Consolidated Syndicate for Culture (F.C.S.C.).

Due to the structure of the executive in Australia, all state-level park/heritage departments are subsidiaries of their federal counterpart, rather than of their respective state governments. As such, there are actually very few 'national parks', as almost all nature reserves and monuments are maintained at the state level.

What department/agency (or agencies) are responsible for environmental protection in your nation's government? [I]The Committee for Environmental Sustainability, a committee within the F.C.S. N.R., is the chief body in charge of environmental protection.

How many areas (including non-park areas) do the FDNP and FDHP have jurisdiction over? As aforementioned, both the FDNP and FDHP divest much of their jurisdiction to their state level subsidiaries. There are only a few sites directly managed by either department; these include sites in territories (excepting those managed by the traditional aboriginal population, such as much of the Central Australic Territories), sites outside of state waters but within national waters (shipwrecks, uninhabited islands, and marine reserves), and overseas sites (such as war monuments and graveyards in France and Turkey).

Parks Overview:
What types of parks/monuments does your nation have? Parks are divided into five categories; Nature Reserves, Heritage Sites, Communal Parklands, Traditional Lands, and Gardens. A park may be any combination thereof.

How are they differentiated? Nature Reserves are lands dedicated to the preservation of native flora and fauna and biomes. Heritage sites are dedicated to the preservation of historical structures and sites. Communal Parklands are any lands dedicate to communal recreational use (anything from playgrounds to sports grounds to beaches). Traditional Lands are lands belonging to and overseen by indigenous groups. Gardens are lands dedicated to the cultivation of introduced - or a mix of introduced and native - flora and/or in a controlled manner (this includes zoos, which are officially designated 'zoological gardens').

Who has the authority to create parks? The creation of any parkland can be initiated by E the local Communal Council, and the relevant commitee within either the Federal or State Consolidated Syndicate for Culture or Natural Resources.

What is the total land and water area protected by YN's park service? Technically speaking, over 3/4 of the nation is recognised as some form of parkland.

What measures does YN take to maintain its parks? All routine groundskeeping and maintenance required is undertaken by the relevant authorities, whilst upgrades and development must be approved by the relevant commitee and local commune/s.

Staff Overview:
What are your park rangers called? Urban and suburban parks would be staffed or maintained by local Communal Groundskeepers, whilst rural parks would be staffed by Park Rovers. Traditional lands, overseen by their traditional aboriginal inhabitants, employ Custodians.

What are the primary duties of park rangers? Depending on the remoteness and facilities of the park, their duties may be any combination of maintenance, surveying, tour guiding, rescue, first aid, animal control and husbandry, and fire prevention.

What other specializations can/do they have? Those that work in parks with animal populations (such as zoos or wildlife reserves) can be specialised as animal handlers, zookeepers, and such roles. Those employed within heritage or scientific sites may possess a relevant specialisation (historians, marine biologists, etc...). Custodians may specialise in traditional controlled bushland burning.

What vehicles is YN's park service equipped with? Due to the variance between park terrains, the various park services maintain a range of land, water, and even air craft.

What weapons (if any) are YN's park rangers equipped with? Those working in natural reserves may be equipped with firearms as per the standard national regulations; any non-automatic rifles, handguns, and shotguns would be permitted.

Miscellaneous:
What is YN's most popular national park? As all parks are open to the public, exact attendance figures are not available. Generally, though, the nation's beaches tend to draw the largest numbers of visitors.

What are some other popular parks/monuments in YN? Every state capital possesses expansive parklands around its CBD and a botanic garden; due to the popularity of sports, football and other sporting venues would technically count as popular parks.

What is the largest national park in YN and what is its area? The Great Barrier Reef and its surrounding marine environment is considered the largest contiguous park in the nation, though the vast majority of this area is underwater.

What is the smallest, and its area? There are some small communal microparks that would measure in single square meters, but typically these are grouped as part of a series of parks for administrative and maintenance purposes.
