Skills and Abilities: Hugh is an avid researcher and a very intelligent man, who can quickly get his head around complex problems and see where the answers might be found, even if he might not have the answers immediately. He is good at picking up context clues from people's speech and demeanour, which has come in handy when dealing with his current predicament. Gender: Male
Profession:Videographer and Production editor manager for the local BBC
Nationality: American
Age: 30
DoB: 4/1/1991
Skills and Abilities: He has a bachelor's degree in media production. He is good with technical skills and how to film, photography and software to make shows or other media. Due to being a survivor of the Eight Day, he has developed a good sense of security and being cautious. He had a sharpened awareness of the world around him, particularly of strange beasts that show up where one would least expect it.
Physical Description: He is 5"5 and is around 148lbs. He has a mixed looked as his skin was sort of tanned. He has a lot of scars with a mixture of former acme, beast bite and claw marks, and two cut bruises on his wrists. Most of these he hides underneath long-sleeve shirts and pants, both casual and work. He is usually clean shaving and keeps himself in shape as he does a moderate workout and has gone on a diet that made him lose over 35lbs. His eyes are always looking at things around him, brown irises that always make sure nothing is around his brown hair.
Psychological Assessment: John is a person who hates himself. Always mentally chastising himself for even the smallest mistake or believed mistake and points his failures to others at times. He tries to hide it underneath a mask of friendliness, if a bit weird. One major thing that is worth of a note is that he has failed to commit suicide due to being a survivor of the Eighth Day. This trauma made him try again but the various beasts of the Day had made him afraid of doing so and to try and at least survive. He still has his moments and they make him seize up, shake and have his heart race. He is currently talking to a local psychiatrist and taking some pills to help but the Beasts of the Day are still on him and he doesn't handle stress entirely well.
Personal Relationships: He has none, he refuses to have friendships or anyone close
Sexuality: He's hetero but refuses to date
Items and Equipment: A camera, some bug spray, a cross and a lead pipe, his meds
Dark Secrets: John is a survivor of the Eight Day. Two years ago he tried to commit suicide on the same day after being chased down by the many beasts that now stalk him. It was only at the last moment that he found himself in the hospital with the same wrist cut wounds that indicated that he didn't died nor did he escape the nightmare.
Powers: None, he's just a simple man who's been given a hard life
Bio: John was born in a small town to an old family. The youngest of four and the one who dealt with the grumblings of parents who been married for decades. It was at the age of ten where he took upon his father's misery and the bullying for his weird personality planted the seeds of negativity that would flourish into something more. The negativity only grew throughout the years till he got out of highschool and tried his hand at going to Wales, as he stumbled upon the costal town of Lludw Cigfrain and felt sort of at ease. However his own negativity and overreaction to a simple argument had caused him to leave back to his family and flounder until he was twenty-seven. At this time he finally got his bachelor's but he felt like he had stagnated while all his friends and classmates grew, had families and even a few became successes.
All the time he blamed himself and other people where he could be trying to fix himself was evident in his life. Despite the bachelor's degree he got and his teachers praising him on his creativity, he still felt like a waste of life. He was contemplating suicide in secret, most people paid no mind to his ramblings or his plans until one day. One day he decided he was going to do it, a simple knife to the wrist after his graduation ceremony. What he didn't expect was the entire city was empty that day.
There was no one but himself in the city until he saw the beasts. The beasts came and chased him through house and field. He cut one of them with the same knife that was meant for himself. It was one of the tall black beasts that howled in pain and fury against John. At the end of the day he was hiding in a bathroom in some apartment and decided he wanted out of the nightmare. His mind already made up and decided to end it before he would be killed by the beasts.
The last thing he remembered was the cold embrace of death and the same black beast with the knife wound on his face looking down on him and had one of his hands grab him. John woke up in the hospital paled and half-dead. The doctor believed that he had a panic attack and tried to commit suicide and John believed them. He was on suicide watch and was sent to therapy to deal with it but he could still see them. The beasts never stopped trying to hunt him, the wounded one in particular.
He still got a job in a syndicated network and was doing well before the wounded black chased him at night. It was so traumatic that he tried to kill himself again but failed. His family didn't know about this time but it made him want to leave them and try to prepare himself against those that hunted him. It was the first time in over eight years that he had a sort of drive that seemed to be lost for a long time. He decided to get a job in the one place he wanted to go back to, Lludw Cigfrain, as a videographer and production manager for their local BBC station.
With most of his money gone into the trip, his mind somewhat clear and a new start that he needed for a very long time he tried to set things right. He got himself a diet, became more aware of his surroundings, and got in some decent shape. He searched for ways to try and better himself instead of going down but it is still a hard road to walk. He still believes he is worth nothing to this life. He still is depressed and is afraid of making himself have friends. He still believes that he should die but he is more afraid of the beasts. The beasts that hound him and toy with him till he gives in again.
That is something he can't allow. That is something he refused to let himself die to. He will at least fight and better himself before they finally get the better of him. It's the last thing he can do. It's the only thing he can do.
Roleplay Experience: I was in the iterations of Dragonball, going back and forth and making a bunch of characters that either died or were abandoned due to me causing problems for myself or spreading my negativity to everyone else. Hopefully this character will actually be good and people will actually like him.

This sounds fascinating. In this setting, as with many others, blood magic is both incredibly powerful and potentially deadly- if your character is a user of blood magic, it might make for some interesting storylines, especially if he uses his magic to conjure items regularly, as you mentioned.
Given that he's a man of letters, it might also open the doors for him to uncover some ancient secrets of the town by reading its old archives.

It's not a regular thing, it only happens like very rarely since magic is so dangerous and all. He doesn't really use it anymore since something happened the last time he used it and that makes up his Dark Secret...I kinda wanted to make it an unknown power since I intended his secret to be an accident, but I suggested the blood thing since I know magic requires a price. But that would eliminate the possibility of him using it accidentally.
But I'm glad you like it though!

Physical Description:(Image)
Psychological Assessment: Hugh Gardien remembers nothing about his past, cannot tell a lie, and has horrendous nightmares of the unknown thing stuck inside cubic foot of concrete. That pretty much informs his personality; he is careful, quiet, and likes to listen to the stories people tell, but he doesn’t like to tell stories about himself, since he barely has any. He can often appear confused, but when speaking he is incredibly lucid. He is also beyond the emotion of surprise. While he cannot be surprised, he is quick on his wits and can fit even the most occult occurences into his worldview, which often leads to him coming across as disinterested or underwhelmed.
Personal Relationships: None that he can remember. He is on tinder and is about to have a date with Rosanne, but this is their first interaction outside of the dating app.
Sexuality: Still finding this out, he isn't quite sure yet. He is not repulsed by the thought of dating any gender, at least.
Items and Equipment: He has his Library in his basement, and an unknown object (his Notebook) in a square foot cube of crudely reinforced concrete. He also wears his wedding ring, that's too tight around his finger to remove.
Dark Secrets: Has spent his life before his amnesia trying to uncover the truth behind Azoth, and thereby, has lost his memories. At the moment, he is entirely unsure what he was researching, since his notes are all in code or languages he cannot understand. He does, however, have a dreadful premonition that there is something wrong with the world, something dark, because the truth of the world cannot be entirely extinguished from his soul.
Powers: None without his notebook. With his notebook, he has a somewhat better 'understanding' of the mystical world. At least, his mind is more open, and more capable of taking the hits that Azoth brings with it. He is more in tune with the cursed 'logic' of the occult. That comes at a price to his mind and his sanity, of course, but the foundation of his rational mind stay intact for longer, long enough to build, maintain and feed the Library that, above all, desperately wants to understand and be understood.
Bio:
Before Amnesia
Hugh Gardien graduated from the University of Queensland with a PhD in theoretical pshysics, with his research focussing on dark matter and energy. Together they make up the largest part of matter and energy in the universe, an as theoretical forces they have tremendous impact on the universe. However, only their impact has ever been measured, which is what gives them the predicate 'dark'. By pure happenstance, Gardien, looking for inspiration, had hoped to find some forbidden books in the Vatican Archives from ancient scholars, with at least some inspiration for his studies. Besides, he was interested in the work of his theoretical predecessors, and by mere coincidence had some connection to an Australian cardinal. And find inspiration he did. While he named it the 'Curie Field', and assigned to it some rudamentary characteristics, he had unbeknownst to him stumbled across some of the slivers of Azoth. He did not know it at the time, though; he packaged his Curie Hypothesis into a doctoral thesis and became a doctor with flying colours. He took up a teaching position while preparing for postdoctoral work, which is how he got the Notebook.
It was given to him by some student, he theorized, although which one he did not know, and later, he could not recall, as even before the Amnesia, his mind had been so thoroughly ravished as to forget even the ones closest to him. It was bound in dark leather, and packaged in brown paper when he found it on his desk. A note attached simply said 'congratulations' in a neat cursive. As he touched the coarse, yellowed paper, inspiration struck, and he continued writing well into the night, until he collapsed from exhaustion. Waking up the next day, he found the Notebook neatly closed, and entirely empty. Somewhat perplexed by this, he began checking his room, and found that a new leather-bound volume had been added to his collection. Simply numbered with a golden Roman I on the spine and cover, the latter with his name in cursive, golden lettering under it. Dr. Hugh Gardien. The book itself was written in code, but Gardien had no trouble deciphering it he found; at one point, the code began to feel more natural to him than even his native English.
While not a superstitious man, there was no reason for him to cast aside this very helpful notebook. He was not very curious for its workings; only for those things it helped him grasp. A month later, he made his first trip abroad with it, giving the university about three hours notice before disappearing for three consecutive weeks. He left for Kiev, where the foundations of the Saint Sophia cathedral were, at that time, exactly a century old. He spent days on end in its crypts and basements, and when he was finally rejected from entrance, he took on various disguises and even snuck in under cover of darkness. He had gone with a suitcase of clothing, a pen, and his Notebook. He returned with a trunk full of volumes, all neatly numbered in Roman numerals.
This continued for some time. He became more estranged from his colleagues, especially those that asked how he had become such a prodigious writers, and why he never published any of his many findings. Whenever someone convinced him to share his hypotheses, all he could muster was incoherent rambling, mixing parts of physics, theology, phylosophy and psychology. His lectures would cover all manner of topics: ancient Meso-American history; Deep sea antarctic ecology. Safety guidelines for the New York Metro. Suicide statistics for the Soviet Republic of Kazachstan before and after the construction of Baikonur. Eventually, he was put on paid leave and told to rest, in no uncertain terms being instructed to seek psychiatric help. He had one session with a psychiatrist, whom broke down crying after a four hour session with Gardien. Instead of seeking further help, Gardien began to travel more and more, and he returned home less and less. The more he travelled, the more he forgot; birthdays of friends at first. Then birthdays of family and loved ones. Then of his child. Then, he began to forget where he lived, his partner paying the various airlines to send them advanced notice if he took a flight back to Australia. At one point, his partner had to drive down to Sydney from Brisbane because he had forgotten from what airport he had left, and which was the closest to home.
The last trip he took was to Wales, the town of Lludw Cigfrain. He barely managed to get himself to the airport, almost walking into the sea before realising a plane would get him there faster. He took up residence in an old manor in Branwen Ward. Its two-level basement dug into the hillside was perfect to contain his massive library, with a little room to spare for additional works. Almost severed completely from the world, Hugh Gardien took to his labour, and he almost managed to finish it. To write a comprehensive, total work on the nature of Azoth, from over a decade of study with the aid of the Notebook. Yet, as he reached the end, the Key to unlock all the knowledge in his Library, the true duality of the Notebook came to bare. See, the Library wants to know, and the Notebook wants to learn. While these two require one another, at one point there comes a time when there is no longer anything left to learn. At that point, the Library is most content, but the Notebook is distraught. So the two forced began to struggle, and it almost destroyed Gardiens mind. In a sudden moment of clarity, or an act of self-protection from his mind, he destroyed the final volume he was working on. The Library tried to protect it, and wiped Gardien's mind, with which his own mind was only too happy to comply. There was very little left to wipe anyway. It would not help, though. The final volume burned up eagerly. The last act Gardien performed was to sink the Notebook into a cube of concrete. Then, everything went dark.
After Amnesia
Hugh Gardien knows very little about himself. He knows his name, from the degree that hangs from his wall. He knows his library and he knows his bank details. The rest, he has forgotten. He knows he has a partner from his wedding ring... Or had a partner, at least. A vague memory of a child persists. But they are dwarfed by darker memories and dreams; him sailing an endless ocean for the love of sailing, dreading to discover the final piece of land at the end of it and completing his map. Building a pyramid, but dreading the capstone since the art of building was so exquisite. A writer, whose characters engage in ever more ridiculous acts in order to keep the plot ever moving.
The Notebook, even from behind the concrete, draws at him, and seeks out his mind and his labours. He seeks to build himself an actual life, away from the dreams. He cannot remember where is home is, or who he could return to, if there even is anyone left. So, he tries his best, hoping that a normal life will bring something back. Yet, it seems that there are very few ways back to a normal life; not in this town, and not with his library.
