The current banners are cropped from various Shutterstock images, so that's the place to look if you want to find out more about the image. We don't have a record of the precise Shutterstock image it was, so you'd need to find it on there.

Yeah, that does look computer-generated. There are places that look vaguely similar (see badlands), but not quite like that. There are geometric patterns that look too orderly to be the result of natural processes, the color is extremely uniform, even the sky looks a little stylized.
