Profiles of Your Capital Cities?

Postby Nacrad » Sun May 09, 2021 3:01 am

Most, if not all, countries have one capital city. A capital city is a city which encompasses a given country's government offices and meeting places, sometimes defined by the constitution of the country. Often times, the capital is the most prestigious and/or most populated city, and is taken to the extremes by some countries like Thailand, whose capital Bangkok is more than 10 times larger than its second largest. Conversely, the capital may also be some small or new city, like in the case with the US' Washington DC, or Brasil's Brasília.

That said, Nacrad's capital is, as defined by the Constitution, RIverfort. It is the largest city of Nacrad with a jaw-dropping 13.3 million calling it home, and houses all federal amenities as with those of the Nacrad Capital Territories in one district, the Central & Northern Borough. Administratively, Riverfort is subordinate to the Nacrad Capital Territories, which holds both it and its twin city, Futshan. At the same time, it has jurisdiction over 5 boroughs, namely the Central & Northern, Whampoa & Eastern, Punyu, Riverine and Baakwan. It also has jurisdiction over 3 counties, namely Tsungfa, Fadou and Tsangshing.

Riverfort is also part of the Pearl River Delta Metropolis, the largest in the world with 51.1 million living therein.

The city was founded by the British in 1603 across the Pearl River from Punyu, which was also known at the time as "Canton" or "Kwangchow". Initially, it was designated for only the living of British persons, but eventually this limit was relaxed for native persons to enter, though the name had persisted. It was a rapidly growing city, becoming the largest in the then-British Nacrad in 1793. After the 1901 granting of independence to Nacrad, Riverfort is chosen as the capital once again, and persisted even until today. However, its Chinese name still uses the old Chinese name, translating to "Canton".

Today, Riverfort acts as the manufacturing capital of not only Nacrad, but also the immediate vicinity. In order to harness its, and its satellite towns' massive labour pool, many companies have set up factories nearby. Currently, these industries specialise in high-technology and green manufacturing, while Formosa, the other manufacturing hub, is home to heavy industry.

The city also acts as a transport hub. The National Motorway 1 (M1), which is part of National Route 1 (A1) passes through the center of the city as the Central Motorway (M1701/A601), which is also a branch of the Motorway 17/National Route 6 (M17/A6). The former motorway passes through all 5 of the Nacradian states on the mainland, passing through all of their state capitals, while the latter is a circular road around the Pearl River Delta. It also hosts the more inland National Routes 6, 19, 21 and 22, which serve the inland parts of Oswain and Hadrax.

It is also a railway hub. Its Riverfort Grand Central Railway Station is one of the busiest in the area, handling some 150,000 passengers movements per day including its annexed subway station. It is at the intersection between some of the busiest railway lines, including the Coastal Railway Corridor linking all coastal Nacradian cities and extending into the neighbouring ROC, the Riverfort-Nanchang railway line, Nanning-Riverfort, among others. After Kongsi had broken away from the ROC, most trains between the western part of the ROC and its exclave in the east take the track through Riverfort.

Its air transport needs are fulfilled by the Riverfort Norfield International Airport, ironically located outside of Riverfort, but in its neighbouring city Futshan. Due to its central location, it hosts the UPS East Asia Hub, and is the focus airport of Nacrad Pacifica Airlines, American Airlines, United, Air France, British Airways, among others.

The capital city of the People's Republic of Zhouran is Ouyang, a large bustling city with a population of 19,946,100 people (with the metropolitan area having up to 30,673,000 people in total), thus making it the third most populous city in the country. Located in the far northern coast of Yongjia in the Zhouranese archipelago, it is the stratocracy's seat of power. Because towns and cities in Zhouran use the Zhouranese Cityscape/Townscape Model, cities in Zhouran are classed as smart cities and Ouyang just happens to be one example, thus making the capital not only rich in heritage & culture but also technologically advanced and highly developed. The city is home to a large variety of different historical sites, majestic monuments, bustling shopping malls, public parks and other amenities for people to enjoy. The inhabitants of Ouyang dwell in large luxurious apartments and comfy suburban houses, and given that homelessness barely exists at all in the country, the capital is fully slum-free just like with any town and city in Zhouran.

Ouyang is widely renowned for being a global cosmopolitan hi-tech city, putting various foreign capitals such as Washington DC, Paris and Rome to shame.

Gandoor City is the capital of the Democratic Republic of Gandoor and comprises the majority of the Gandoor City Capital District. The city proper has an estimated population of 82,567.

The city was officially founded in 1625 as Rulookia, from the native word 'relooki' (in modern orthography, spelt reluki), which meant 'leader residence.

As Rulookia, the city served as the capital of the Nzardom of Gandoor from 1625 (replacing the city of New London) until 1841, when the Gandoorese Royal Family moved residence to the recently constructed Great Palace City. Despite the moving of the capital to Great Palace City, many Gandoorese governmental institutions remained in Rulookia, which resulted in the city being officially renamed to the City of Government in 1843.

After the end of the Gandoor Revolution in 1902, the post-revolutionary government, who were governing from Great Palace City, decided that the capital should be moved back to the City of Government, citing the presence of extant government buildings in the city as the primary reason.

In 1903, the City of Government was renamed to Gandoor City (and Great Palace City was renamed to Nzardgrad) and became the official capital of the newly established Democratic Republic in 1904.

As part of the establishment of Gandoor City as the capital of the Democratic Republic, it was decided to have Gandoor City be its own separate territory from the newly-established Icpo Yon that is it located within. From 1904 until 1916, Gandoor City was synonymous with the Gandoor City Capital District, but in 1916, several smaller towns that were located within the borders of the district (but considered to be part of Icpo Yon) were absorbed and became part of the Capital District, although they did not become part of Gandoor City itself, retaining their status as separate towns.

Since the 1970s, the Gandoor City Representation movement, which advocates giving the Capital District seats in the Forum, has been a major force of Gandoor City politics since the District, while nearly identical to a yon in most ways, has no say in who becomes the Prime Minister because of their lack of representation.

Varyag, officially the District of Varyag, is the capital city of the Empire of New Goldman. It currently has a population of 125,615,283 people according to the 2020 consensus.

Founded shortly before the establishment of the Old Republic under the name "Faraday", it was given its current name in honor of American immigrant and priest Tony Varyag, who served as the first mayor of the then small town by the time of the Old Republic.

The first mention of the city, then under the name "Faraday", was a blueprint for the small-medium sized town that was hand drawn dated October 2 1618, around the year 100 E in recorded Goldmanian history, just before the beginning of the Early Years Era. It was drawn evidently by Dutch urban planner Wilhelm van Caernarvon who immigrated to the then Goldmanian Tribe, hence his name on the top right. It had a projected population of around 60,000 inhabitants. The first buildings were built in this era, including the Wallaran Homestead, the oldest building still in use today (as a museum) in the country. It remained practically the same, until renovations were conducted upon the founding of the Empire in 1718.

The capital before Varyag was the port city of San Jose, which today is the largest city in the Empire. Due to the increasing pirate raids on the newly independent Empire at the time, a need for a new capital that is safely far away from the shore was presented by Emperor Norton I. Varyag was chosen primarily because it was situated on top of the Woodridge Plateau, which is a strategic point in case of invasion. It was officially made the capital city in 1737.

The new and current Imperial Palace, plus the Capitol Building and the Supreme Court, was constructed starting in 1845 and ending by 1863. The Imperial Family, the National Assembly and the Judiciary Branch officially moved in by 1864.

In 1969, the decision to officially make the city and it's surrounding areas a separate polity from it's occupier, the State of Tejas, was approved. Amendment 13 was added to the Constitution, which promulgated the establishment of the District of Varyag along with its right to participate in the Electoral College. It was granted 8 electoral votes for this purpose. Varyag's first political involvement was the 1969 General Elections, and it's participation continues to this day.

Since then, Varyag has grown to become the second most populated city in the world in both size and population, only behind San Jose (the aforementioned former capital). It has become a tourist attraction to the world. The Imperial Palace has been listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2010. Varyag has also been recognized as a highly developed city, alongside juggernauts such as New York and Shanghai.

Special Administrative Zone of Nadeyatsyagrad
Coloquially known as Nadeyatsyagrad/Nadejatsjagrad/Nadeyatšagrad

The site where Nadeyatsyagrad sits today was believed to have been inhabited by the Kikarians, a sub-tribe of the larger Malkasivan ethnicity. Archeologists think there were at least three to five villages around the area, with a collective population of 16,000. It is also estimated they were built sometime between the 1300s and 1400s. When British colonizers arrived in the area, only one village remained. This village was almost immediately captured by the colonists and they began to build a larger settlement around the coast, named Havenport.

As decades and centuries passed, it grew to be one of the four competing cities in the Molopovian colony. After the Siktom Revolution, the First Republic established their headquarters here. It was renamed to Nadeyatsya, Malkasivan for "large settlement." It was decreed the capital for the first time in 1883, and it quickly overtook all other large cities as the dominant representative city of the nation.

By 1942, the Japanese offensive on the islands have succeeded. Nadeyatsya was burnt down by the 62nd Infantry Regiment in what was known as the Great Flame of Nadeyatsya. In turn, this infuriated many guerilla groups, and forced the Japanese to pay the price of dealing with increased rebel activity. American forces landed in 1944, and Molopovia was fully independent the next year.

Nadeyatsya, or what remained of it, took until 1959 to return to pre-war economic output and living conditions. Throughout the 1960s, Molopovia turned into a communist state. Premier Kolbosha renamed it to a Russianized name, NadeyatsyaGRAD (-grad is a prefix commonly used in Russian settlements.) This persisted even after the regime was overthrown in 1972. Today, Nadeyatsyagrad remains the most important, symbolic and strategic city of the entire nation.

The current Nadeyatsyagrad population is: 116 million

The capital of the Taxonomic Kingdoms is Philadelphia, Animalia. It is the 3rd purpose-built capital that the kingdoms have had.

The original capital in time immemorial was Bamford, Bamfordvirae. However, when we say that Bamford was founded "in time immemorial," what we really mean is that nobody remembers when it was built because it is on a tributary of the Lethe, the mystical river that washes away memories.

Forgetting things all the time was not conducive to good government, and so the decision was made to build a new capital. Virhaemia, Orthornavirae was built around 2 billion years ago, and served as the national capital from then until around 6,000 years ago. Although it is no longer the national capital, Virhaemia is still the kingdoms' largest city and home to many important historical relics and records.

When Adam and Eve were expelled from Eden, part of the garden was annexed to the Taxonomic Kingdoms. The inhabitants complained that Virhaemia was too far removed from them, and too much power was concentrated there. They wanted a new capital where they would have easier access and more influence. They also wanted somewhere more inviting. Virhaemia is known for its cool damp climate and eternal gray skies, which can get kind of depressing after a while.

So the capital was moved to Vitalia, Archaea, where it stayed until the Harrowing of Hell. Since Archaea was a former province of Hell, Jesus attempted to come in and convert the locals. This intrusion was not welcome, and it was decided to build a new more secure capital.

The capital was moved to the Animal Kingdom, where it can be guarded by dinosaurs, tigers, etc. The new capital was named Philadelphia to celebrate the spirit of love and cooperation among the kingdoms and all their inhabitants. None of the Taxonomic Kingdoms conduct a formal census, but the population of Philadelphia is a few million excluding micro-organisms. The population includes a wide variety of animals as well as a few non-animal species to represent the other kingdoms. To an outsider, it almost looks like a very luxurious zoo -- except none of the enclosures are locked, and the animals can wander freely between different parts of it.

The population of Philadelphia is in the hundreds of millions if you include micro-organisms that have citizenship, trillions if you include non-citizen micro-organisms.

The capital of Zartobania is Keytliningrad. What was once a small peasant village centuries ago, the Maxtopian colonizers turned it into a bustling city. The city isn't too different from your average Eastern European city. Think of Minsk with a mix of Oslo and you have Keytliningrad.
