It stated in the 'Military of the Union' factbook, that in the present moment or as they would call it 'modern period' the Armed Forces of the Union didn't undergo much structural change. Which is strange considering that Pluto and Mars began reviving their armed forces, the reasons to what prompted this decision is not stated. The AFU doesn't seem to be alarmed by this which I suppose is an evidence that Republics within the Union are truly independent.

Constitution of Saridesia (Compiled First in 856 , frequently revised ever since 856) establishes the Commonwealth as a federation of equals , outlines the proper functioning of its institutions, and guarantees a multitude of basic rights such as the right to life, freedom of speech and conscience, and equal recognition and protection under the law.

highest political body is the Federal Assembly, a unicameral legislature from which most other federal authority derives. Its 1,536 seats are divided among the constituent members of the Commonwealth, and allocated in such a way to ensure both proportionate representation based on population, and to guarantee an equal representation of all of Saridesia's ethnic, religious, and cultural groups. All-Commonwealth elections are by universal suffrage using a Linksingle transferable vote system, and occur every year, though elections for individual seats may occur earlier should their representatives be recalled by their constituents, retire or die before the end of their term, or otherwise be rendered unfit for office.

Executive Branch of the Commonwealth is headed by the Federal Council, a directorial body of ten members, one elected by universal suffrage from each of the Commonwealth's ten republics (see the Regional and Local Governance section below) who collectively act as the head of government. Commonwealth also makes extensive use of direct democracy. Such referendums typically occur at the end of the months on which they're called, and effectively gives the general public veto power over legislation.

overall political culture of the Commonwealth can be charitably described as "spirited" and "progressive" , The government and its institutions are liable to be torn up the moment they no longer work for the present conditions. Furthermore, while things have calmed significantly in the near-century since the continent's unification, there remains extensive political divisions, and its not unheard of for shouting matches and even outright brawls to break out in the legislature.

In the Commonwealth, there are two political coalitions which are considered to be the most powerful and influential:

The Pan-Red Alliance (PRA), also known as the Unionists or the Communards, who are generally defined by their support of political and economic centralization, industrialism, militarism, and a moderate-to-conservative approach to social issues.

The Pan-Green Alliance (PGA), also known as the Confederalists or the Roundheads, who are generally defined by their support of political and economic decentralization, agrarianism, pacifism, and a progressive, libertarian approach to social issues.

rivalry between the two coalitions is passionate and has defined Commonwealth politics for the past century , even those participants who consider themselves less ideological - generally view it as beneficial. The endless struggle between the Reds and the Blues creates a balance between liberty and authority, progress and tradition, productivity and happiness, and hawkishness and restraint, resulting in a society which is beneficial to all.

Free States, the most common kind of region.

Free Cities, settlements which are considered to be large enough to be federally represented as their own regions.

Federal Territories, the least common kind of region, which are directly administered by the federal government.

These designations are used by the federal government for the purposes of legislation and administration, and with the exception of federal territories, each region is given the right to organize their own government however they see fit, provided they still guarantee the basic rights outlined in the Constitution. That said, most regional governments are organized in a manner quite similar to that of the federal government, with only a few changes to fit their unique conditions.

Grouped into ten republics, which aside from defining the composition of the Federal Council, exist purely on a ceremonial basis, and hold no extraordinary powers or administrative functions over their constituent regions.

Local governments are organized similarly across regions, with subdivisions usually categorized into predominantly rural cantons and predominantly urban municipalities. These localities are legislated through a form of participatory democracy called townhall democracy, in which citizens directly participate in the legislative process. While some places have phased out this mode of organization for practical purposes, it remains dominant in most of the Commonwealth's localities, and is a point of pride for those that have it.

the military forces of Saridesia are decentralized, as to allow them to respond swiftly to threats, and to maximize use of local knowledge , Continental United Forces number 1.6 million regular soldiers, and about as many reservists , divided into 3 different branches.

Continental Army, the largest branch which handles the bulk of the Commonwealth's ground and air forces. Functions less as a unified army in the normal sense, and more along the lines of a federation of local and regional militias supplemented by a shared federal force, in a sense mirroring the political organization of the Commonwealth itself.

Continental Navy, the second-largest branch, which handles the Commonwealth's fleet of airships and waterborne vessels. For the most part a shared federal force, but supplemented by some regional militias.

Continental Special Forces, the smallest branch, composed of the Commonwealth's forces which are specialized in thaumaturgic warfare, experimental weapons, and covert operations. Exclusively a shared federal force.

Specific way these forces are organized depends on the branch and even the militia, but they are generally composed of professional volunteers with democratically-elected officers, supplemented by conscripts in only the direst circumstances.
