The "legacy fan" moniker is simply an insult to everyone who cares about the sport. At this point, UEFA, FIFA, and the billionaire owners only seem to care about chasing the bandwagoners since they seem to purchase all the merchandise without knowing who Salah, De Bruyne, or Mbappe are.

To be fair, I wonder how many of Arsenal's (pre-Covid, obviously) match day fans would still be there if Arsenal were relegated... the way they react when Arsenal need uplifting is... unhelpful (mind you, without fans Arsenal's home form has been shit so maybe it helps in a kind of negative reinforcement sense... or is it punishment?).

If I were a Man United fan who encounters a "Man United fan" who doesn't know who the Holy Trinity and Sir Matt Busby are, I would gladly kick them out of the fanbase. My assumption would be that will root for City for the rest of the season (basically any team that's winning).

This is precisely why I'm struggling to care about it. I only ventured into this thread to find out why it's in the news so much.

European football fans are slowly coming to the realisation that the billionaires who now own their clubs, clubs that are often over a century old and built from the ground up on the backs of the working class, are only in it to run them like a business and maximise profits wherever possible.

The question of 'which side are you on?' is not a question between the super-rich team owners and the super-rich organising bodies, it's actually between a game run for the enjoyment of fans and communities, and on the other side a game run for billlionaire owners where the spectators are just one more variable in the product being sold.

Football has been moving towards this juncture for a long time, and the idea of a European, probably soon to be global, Super League was a step too far for - dare I say - most.

I would imagine there are a lot of fans of the big 6 English clubs who are in the same position I'm in.
I think the super league idea stinks...but am I really going to avoid watching United every week? Something tells me I might...for all of two weeks.

why would those two teams do that?

Unless it comes with more uefa competition tickets of course. But currently they are pretty much guaranteed to get a ticket to a qualification round. In a BSL, not so much, they'd have to beat quite a few tougher teams domestically for that.

I wonder what the British Government can do to force the clubs to adopt the German 50%+1 model, as that would be the ideal solution. Not a single German club even thought about joining, primarily because of said model. Same goes for Spain and Italy.

As if Serie A could allow itself to lose the income granted by Inter, Milan and Juventus... especially in recession times.

They didn't have an issue with that in 2006, although that did only end up being Juventus in the end.

Genk, Gent, Anderlecht, and Liege could all be partially competitive in Europe. Red Bull Salzburg always farms the Austrian league so they're the most common Austrian represent.

And of course if you are complacent and don't put in any effort for the entire 90 minutes against inferior opposition (such as Tottenham players not working hard against Zagreb) then you don't deserve to be in Europe in the first place.

Salzburg is definitely not an underdog in the Austrian Bundesliga since they are the farmers there. In Europe, they aren't usually a top contender and are more likely to succeed in the EL.

When the UCL (by semi or quarter) is mostly dominated with clubs from Spain, Portugal, England, France, Germany, Salzburg would be considered a dark horse or underdog.
