A Navy Day in Yokosuka (OOC, Invite Only)

Postby Austria-Bohemia-Hungary » Sun Apr 18, 2021 1:58 pm

A Navy Day in Yokosuka

The Story: Every year, at least since 1905 and the victory over Orussia in the Fusōnese-Orussian War by the Battle of Tsushima, the Imperial Fusō Navy has kept the commemorative events of the great battle that brought the Empire its victory sombre and somewhat low-key, with the notable exception of the 100th one in 2005. 2021 is of no exception, with the only ships docked in Yokosuka prearranged guests of the Naval Ministry. There was however, one change from the ordinary.
Usually this event took place under the aegis of the Sasebo Naval District on the far-western end of the country, the base where Admiral Tōgo's and the Combined Fleet's departed some one-hundred years ago towards Tsushima. 2021 however sees the event moving from Sasebo to Yokosuka, mostly to get away from the uncontrolled spread of COVID19 in the People's Republic of China to the west. Also, as an experiment, the hosts of this year's events went to the Yokosuka Girl's Maritime Academy Senior High School, one of those schools that were technically belonged to the navy but had substantial independence in its day to day affairs.

Located on the northeastern end of Tomaricho, north of the main naval base in the city, Yokosuka Girl's Maritime Academy was originally an affiliate of the Imperial Fusō Naval Academy, specialising in training Witches during the days of the Second Neuroi War. After the end of the war the establishment broadened its activities a bit and now provides the general standardised curriculum as well as training young cadets for the Etajima Academy. Its building's, built post-war were near-copies of the Etajima Academy's, only smaller in scale. It is now here where the 116th commemoration festival of the Battle of Tsushima and the Day of the Imperial Fusō Navy will take place.

The Schedule (all times in Fusōnese Standard Time/FST (IRL Japan Standard Time):
  • 10-21st May: Guests, ships and people arrive. (At least one week to get used to the time zone and the locals)
  • 27th of May 2021:
    • 0800 FST: Yokosuka Girl's Maritime Academy hosts the reception ceremony in its assembly hall for the guests.
    • 0900 FST: Grand Opening on battleship Mikasa and in Mikasa Park
    • 0900 FST: Stands, restaurants and booths for various purposes open.
    • 1000-1400 FST: Sporting events
    • 1200 FST: Lunch
    • 1400-2200 FST: Free Time
    • 1500 FST: Commemoration Concert by the Central Orchestra of the Imperial Fusō Navy - Mikasa
  • 28th of May:

Hello, ABH!
First of all, thank you for the invite. It is a great pleasure to RP with you again.
As we spoke about before, I will be sending SDFS Cailín, one of my Maighdean-class Missile Cruisers, which makes a detour on its training cruise of that year - she usually carries groups of the Year 4 Ensigns of the Naval School (23 year olds).
Gwen Máthrachas of the Tribe of Fermanagh is the Captain. I have yet to invent Officers and Ensigns aboard during the cruise.

Though, question, which sports events did you plan?
I play PT, MT and a bit FT. I am into character-RPs.
My people are called the Selkie, the nation is usually called the Free Lands in MT-settings. Thanks.

Some fun ones I hope mostly borrowed from the Haifuri movie. <.>

  • 0800 FST: Decommissioning ceremony of Zuikaku.
And the big item of the 28th ended up being the decommissioning of the last steam turbine'd standard carrier of the IFN. <.>

A sad event to start the day. But... she is not the one of 1941 vintage, is she?

No, she's the last of the 70,000 ton steam turbine Amagi's from 1980. 41 years is a pretty decent life for a fleet carrier methinks. On that note: consider it a well earned retirement. :3
Edit 2: Programme for the afternoon concert on Mikasa added.

I would not doubt, that her retirement is well earned. ; ) And yeah, I think, 41 years is a pretty good run for a warship of that size, too.
The programme sounds interesting. Have to give the pieces a listen, though.

I'll send cadets, although they might be mostly army; is that alright?

Good morning, everyone.
First of all: thank you, ABH, for agreeing to have me. It's a pleasure to RP once more after things...more or less petered out. Because VCS Gabriel Lázaro de Mangubat (CG-7) is currently indisposed, I'm taking a sister ship instead: VCS Graciano López Jaena (CG-1). In command will be a different set of officers from CG-7...character building time!

after remembering that my naval infantry fought in burma and still retain an institutional loathing of the Japanese, and after ABH okay'd me, it's confirmed. Sending army cadets from either Warsaw Arty and/or Warsaw Infantry.

Now, a proposal: Since I have never ran a sports rp before beyond Senshado things I think to make this all easier on ourselves I'm hosting some senshado related things. Naturally, this won't be a match, we simply don't have the space for it in the middle of Yokosuka (in fact I'm housing the Academy's tank park some 17 minutes drive away), only some sort of exhibition I think. Then I think I'll take suggestions for things to do on the rest of the 4 hour period devoted to sporty things?

It does sound fun. However, I have a logistical problem, as the Cailin isn't an LBT. So, if you want to make an exhibition, I have to bring in another ship carrying a part of the Puisíni - unless of course you want it to be only Fusoan Teams displaying their heavily armoured toys.

As for other sports, why make it complicated? Football/Soccer, Baseball, maybe even Archery. We don't even have to go by Scorinators.

Probably because I'm doing this for the first time and thus is making it too complex.

That does sound like a problem. Probs will tone that down significantly then, esp. since the garage is "17 minutes" away through Tokyo traffic. Unless I want to lockdown Yokosuka for this. <.>

Alright, thought of a command staff for CG-1:
    Command
  • CAPT Francisco Goemon, VCN - Captain
  • CDR Steven Anthony Lambating, VCN - First Officer
    Staff
  • CDR Jennifer Mantua, VCN - Engineering Duty Officer
  • CDR Remedios Agatha Naldoza, VCN - Naval Surgeon
  • CDR (Fr.) Julius Cardinoza, VCN - Naval Chaplain
So far, these are the officers I could think of.
