International Hospital Policy: Initially the hospital had a policy of putting everyone admitted to the hospital on GI prophylaxis with IV Protonix 40, however upon internal review it was found to increase C diff cases and even developed pneumonia in some patients. Only patients in the CCU are allowed to be on GI prophylaxis.

Case Report:
A 55 yr old M with PMHx of HTN, HLD, Anxiety came to the ED with SOB, dyspnea and diaphoresis. His EKG revealed a rate of 160 SVT. He was initially given ice packs and told to bear down. Cardiac enzymes were negative. He was then given IV Adenosine 6mg which converted his arrhythmia to NSR. He will follow up with Dr. Ash in Cardiology. The cause of such issues is an AV node condition problem - surgeons are researching techniques of ablation therapy and pacing for this condition at New Medica.
