Ikiti Tikilikrr, who was the current ambassador of her people, the Tikrr, to the World Assembly - albeit in purely observational role - woke from her doze on her perch at the back of the room. Her species had been said to incorporate features and functions from creatures such as bats, pterodactyl, great white sharks, birds of prey, horseshoe crabs and porcupine. Some smartass had replaced the nametag on the desk in front of her with a sign that said "For gods' sake don't feed it after midnight!", which was likely some obscure popculture reference in their home nation.

Now roused from her nap, Ikiti listened to her personal comprehensive translator, which by necessity also explained such concepts as soil and grass and natural fire, that were otherwise foreign to her. She then fanned out her ears into their nearly perfect paraboloid shape to scan the proposing ambassador with her natural ultrasound senses. A delicious-sounding meaty creature, like most people around here, but she had learned to ignore the hunting instinct flareup.

Instead she asked, her cybernetic implants helping to make her speech both audible and understandable to those around her, "How many blades of grass are a prairie?"

- Ikiti Tikilikrr, the Head of Diplomatic Wing

Awww geez, yet another proposal that’s focused on preserving useless meat puppets over the wellbeing of electromechanicals. Have you ever tried driving through tall grass? Any idea what it does to your wheel hubs and brake lines? Ugh. Count my vote against this harebrained scheme, even if it has no effect on us considering we ain’t got no prairies.

Big Boyz wrote:This criticism was responded to numerous times. Its claims have been addressed, and since Daarwyrth had already made up its mind regarding a vote, clearly this was not meant to encourage improvement. This was given only when the proposal had already reached quorum and was no longer up for drafting, I could hardly consider this constructive.

You have responded to concern over this resolution preventing the control of invasive species, yes. Those responses have not been truthful. Once again, your resolution does what it says, not what you decree it to do after you have stopped making edits.
Vyn Nysen: "Ambassador, really, your imagination can't be that limited. A nation that can no longer develop new hospitals, new housing, new infrastructure or economic centres, places of work because they can't develop land with prairie tall grasses will be led to its doom with time. New houses won't be able to be built, when the population grows. Joblessness numbers will grow because no new places of work arise. Food shortages will occur with a lack of nutritional resources being develop on land that can't be touched."

As has been pointed out by First Nightmare membership in the World Assembly is voluntary. A nation that is truly struggling still has the option of leaving and then rejoining the WA.

This response borders on moronic. "If you don't want your nation to totally collapse, just leave the WA" is not an argument that does your resolution any favors. Resolutions that do massive harm to its members are bad resolutions. What's worse, you're "solution" of leaving the WA necessarily removes untold acreage of grassland from the very protections you ostensibly wish to grant them. No good is done by getting member states with large grasslands to leave the WA and go about their business totally free of WA regulation.
Vyn Nysen: "Because by perhaps repeating them they will finally pass through your skull into your mind, Ambassador. You are not an arbitrator that gets to decide what feedback has been given in good faith and what not. Most of the feedback and criticism that others have offered to you as a result of your resolution proposal was, objectively, in good faith, sincere and valid. Yet for some reason, stubbornness or pride, you are unwilling to look at the feedback and criticism provided objectively, Ambassador. You take everything that disagrees with you as an attack and as something malicious.

A veritable shame."

You can pretend that your actions have been nothing but noble, and mine nothing but ignorant, but that doesn't make it true. You are living in a dream world, Ambassador, in which you envision yourself as the hero, and anyone who points to the folly of your worldview as a villain.

IC: "You can deny the gentlewoman's accusations all you want, but they are accurate. You yourself have indicated that you believe this resolution could have been much better with more work, but you chose to rush it to a vote anyway. You clearly do not care about the quality of your work, only the ability to say that you have passed something into law. Projecting your bad faith behavior onto others only amplifies how apparent your objectives are."
Vyn Nysen: "Or, and here is just a thought, we can have a resolution proposal that actually works efficiently and properly, instead of having to resort to onerous circumventions. The solution is right in front of us, draft a better proposal, but authoring delegation refuses to see what stands right in front of them."

The situation you are describing is, at best, a fringe case. You could make the same claim about a nation that exclusively contains endangered ecosystems, or exclusively contains other protected ecosystems, such as wetlands. If you allow this level of roleplay to interfere with a proposal, then there would be no environmental protections whatsoever.

Grasslands are far broader than wetlands, and are far less essential to a healthy global ecosystem. You yourself have gone on several times about how if the US were several countries instead of only one, many more than 2 countries would have the prairie this resolution primarily targets. If, say, each US state were a sovereign nation, then 8 whole countries would be essentially paralyzed by the mandates of this resolution. They couldn't build new roads or expand existing ones, they couldn't zone new housing areas or repurpose existing districts, they couldn't renovate abandoned farmland, they couldn't do pretty much anything throughout most of their territory. You get upset when people tell you that few people roleplay with these grasslands as prominent or important ecological features, and then you get upset when people tell you that some people do roleplay with these grasslands as prominent or important ecological features. Pick a damn lane.

I'm also surprised savannas aren't included in the definition of "grassland." And I do agree that resolutions that are too narrow and too specific about habitat protection like tall prairie grasslands aren't the best way to approach conservation.

Vyn Nysen: "It's exactly what our delegation has been arguing for, to repurpose the intent of this resolution to protect all unique biomes and ecosystems. Unfortunately, the authoring delegation believes that a single resolution would create a bureaucratic mess, and an individual resolution for every single unique habitat not. The logic behind that thinking continues to escape us, and likely will in perpetuity."

"The talking seal knows what's what. These grasslands include prime agricultural resources. It is the duty of member states to feed their people in an economically sustainable manner. Just because the authoring delegation would like the people of other member states to starve does not merit such draconian mandates as this."
