LA Black Man Arrested While Taking Out the Trash

Taking out the trash isn’t a euphemism here, folks.
Police in LA were responding to a domestic violence call when three blocks away from the destination they spotted a man outside.

One officer inquired if that was the suspect, as they had no real clue what the suspect looked like.
The other officer’s answer?
“Probably.”

Was it a man running who looked like he had run three blocks? No.
But the man was black, and for those officers, that meant he “probably” was their suspect.
They handcuffed him as he called for his girlfriend and maintained he was not the man they were looking for.

Oh, and guess what? Their real suspect? He’s white.

Add taking out the trash to the list of things black people can’t do without being arrested or shot by police in America, below waiting at Starbucks and above literally sleeping.

Gotta agree. Most US Police are like this, you rarely see the good ones.
You can see good police officers from biker channels ngl.
But that is also a rare occasion.

You can see good police officers from biker channels ngl.
But that is also a rare occasion.

It's not the first case where cops have gotten confused and went to the wrong house/apartment. Checking house/apartment numbers seems like a relatively simple non-controversial thing to cover in police training, and it would cut down at least some of these "arrested a random black bystander" cases.

California has a rich tapestry of racism, especially via the Los Angeles Police Department. And the Oakland Police Department. You go inland enough and north enough and it's straight up Klan-style.

We have culturally diverse areas and comparatively liberal policies (really kind of arguable, we're a boogeyman more than a hot bed of 'far left' governance. But that's another thread), but those places are riddled with the same long standing racial issues as anywhere else. We're not Mississippi, but we have loooooong standing issues that even if they're being addressed are deeply rooted and won't go away overnight.

Mostly they'll go away by people going, "Are you fucking serious? A black man can't take out his goddamn trash if a white man committed a crime nearby? Get your fucking shit together LAPD. You're already late."

When things like this happen on a regular basis, there should be riots.

I’m not quite Page, and I think there is inherent value in obeying the law and maintaining the public order. But that is conditional on the assumption that the law will ensure that I am reasonably safe in an orderly society.

People whose fundamental human dignity are not protected by the law and by officers of the law have no moral obligation to uphold public order. In fact, I would argue they have a moral obligation to disrupt it.

Granted the police really could've handled the situation better, but it's not like they're just cruising around harassing black people, the report said "a male at address X" and he was a male at address X.
