Aussie Rules World Cup III - Signups/Host Bids (CLOSED)

Postby Sylestone » Thu Mar 18, 2021 10:20 pm

Welcome to the signups thread for the third World Cup for Australian Rules Football! The Aussie Rules World Cup (ARWC for shorthas run successfully for the past two editions, the first being won by Sarzonia and the second by Sylestone. Both of these sides will be back to try and grab a second title but will face stiff competition. Can they do it, or will a new nation be crowned with the title? It's time to find out!

Puppet Policy
Any nation who has previously entered either ARWC I or ARWC II may enter a puppet. These must be confirmed by both the puppet and the main nation. Only one puppet is allowed per nation.

Host Bids
Any nation may sign up to post a host bid, whether experienced or just starting off. Host bids must include national IC information, proposed format and scorination, experience and tiebreakers.
The host bid deadline will be next Friday (26 March) at 4:00pm AEDT (5:00am UTC). If there are no bids by that point, the bidding deadline will be extended for another three days after the first host bid is announced.

NS Stats are not canon(See factbook for more info). Nation does not represent RL views. IC Name for all other RPs: Union of Soviet Socialist Republics. IC Name for NS Sports ONLY: Sannyamathland. Currently undergoing major restructuring. So factbooks and other settings may change.
No longer am a Communist. Definetely not a democratic socialist or liberal. My political views atm are pretty weird and messed up. Deal with it.

So, the host bid deadline passed a couple of hours ago, so now it's time to get voting underway! Hmm, sorry. What? Listens carefully. Oh, it turns out no one has bothered to place a host bid! That is indeed unfortunate.
So as per the OP, we shall wait for someone to place a host bid, before waiting three days after that to see whether there will be any competitors for that bid. Then the voting process will actually be underway!
In the case that no one bids and the tournament's taking ages to get started, I will produce an emergency bid. However, this is only if really required and I deem it highly unlikely.

Oh, and signups are still open, in case you're wondering.

You’ve never participated in a previous ARWC, so you are therefore unranked, hence UR.

SYLESTONE AND BAGGIELAND - ARWC II

IC Overview

Sylestone
Sylestone is a tropical island nation located in the region of Esportiva. It is home to world-class diversity, with biomes ranging from the hot, dry desert to the wet rainforests. The nation is home to 25 million inhabitants, ranging from normal, everyday humans, to sentient objects, elves and even human-like animals. Cities include Avondale, Betham, Chamberley, Cleorough, Halpenley and Pesfield.
The tourism industry runs the economy, as tourists flock to Sylestone's lush rainforests, stunning reefs and sandy beaches. Technology is also relatively advanced, enough to ensure everyone has a comfortable time.
Games will either be played at stadiums also used for cricket or specialised Aussie Rules ones, similar to what happened in ARWC II.

The largest cities in Sylestone include Avondale, Betham, Chamberley and Cleorough, all with populations of over 3 million. Other important cities include Dunkirk, Halpenley, Kirkham and Pesfield.

Image

Baggieland
Baggieland is a tropical island nation with a plethora of sun-kissed beaches lined with majestic palms. There are plenty of water sports to enjoy such as surfing, snorkelling and scuba diving on pristine coral reefs, together with a vibrant and exciting nightlife. Visitors can also venture into the unspoiled wilderness to experience jungle trekking, white water rafting and mountain climbing in this nation that has it all.

Image

Image

There are four main cities:

Hawthorn is the capital and by far the largest city. It has the nation’s sole airport, which serves international flights only. It surrounds Lake Throstle, which actually isn’t a lake, but an inland sea.
Albion has Baggieland’s only deep-water port and is the centre of all international trade, as well as being home to the Baggielandian Royal Navy. It is an industrial city and the only one without a beach, so most tourists avoid it.
Stoney Lane and the nearby Ark Island have the best snorkelling and scuba diving spots.
Bunn’s Field has the best surfing beaches and there are also good snorkelling and scuba diving locations around Birches Island.
There are three smaller populated areas in the Three Degrees region:
Regis Island, Batson Island and Cunningham Island. These islands have good surfing, snorkelling and scuba diving as well, but they are best known by scuba divers for the abundance of ship wrecks.
There are no cars in Baggieland, but there is a very efficient public transportation system. There are trams within cities, trains between cities and ferries to the islands. All of which run every few minutes from early in the morning until late at night. The longest route, Cunningham Island to Ark Island, takes no more than five hours.
The people of Baggieland are all vat-created – so every citizen is 24 years old and shall remain that age forever.
Sport in Baggieland
All Baggies are sport crazy, the nation comes to a standstill every time a game is being played. The players that make it to the top of their game are treated as gods.
Dartmouth Hill (97,842), Hawthorn, is the home of football.
Image
Birches Park (89,476), Bunn’s Field, is the home of rugby.
Image
Waverley Oval (82,612), Albion, is the home of Aussie rules.
Image
Cooper’s Field (62,591), Stoney Lane, is the home of cricket.
Image
Maripasoula Stadium (32,836), Regis Island.
Image
St. George’s (28,451), Batson Island.
Image
The Archway (19,026), Cunningham Island.
Image
All of the stadiums’ pitches can be converted into any pitch type (like Sapporo stadium in RL).
Travel Warning Advisory
Are you wondering why there are so many ship wrecks in the Three Degrees Region? There is a rogue submarine HMS Onslaught that operates in this area. They approach the ferries looking for booty and often sink the ships if they’re not satisfied with the takings (they always allow the passengers and crew into the lifeboats first – no one’s been lost – yet). If you should find yourself in this situation, well… you’re on your own.
Danger rating: 5/10. They might be satisfied with their booty.
As Baggieland has an equatorial climate, there are sharks in the seas off the coast, but no shark nets. If you should find yourself up against a tiger shark while enjoying the beach life, well… you’re on your own.
Danger rating: 1/10. Shark attacks are infrequent and rarely fatal. Shark diving tours are available.
Baggielandian women are very beautiful, but beware the black widow scam. If you should find yourself in your hotel room with no memory of the previous night and all your money gone, well… it’s your own fault.
Danger rating: 10/10. There’s no escape.

Experience
Baggieland and Sylestone have both hosted Aussie Rules Football, hosting in editions one and two respectively. Baggieland has also hosted its region’s football tournament. Sylestone has hosted a Cup of Harmony, a Baptism of Fire and a World Lacrosse Championship alongside ARWC II.

Scorination, RP Bonuses and other Technical Stuff
Scorination will be via xkoranate and the Australian Rules Football four quarters formula. RP Bonuses will be generous, favouring quality over quantity. Rosters will be worth twice the amount of an RP.
In comparison to other ARWC’s, cutoffs will be around 48 hours apart. This is because both co-bidders have busy schedules. While we will try to keep to our cutoff times, they may be varied, but this will be discussed in the discussion thread.

Tiebreakers
Proposal:
H2H Record
Goal Difference
Goals For
IC Coin Flip (OOC: RP Bonus)
OOC Coin Flip

Proposed Formats
16 sides - Four groups of four, top two to quarterfinals
20 sides - Four groups of five, top two to quarterfinals
24 sides - Four groups of six, top four to round of 16
Any more participants? Will edit accordingly

Thanks for the question!
The chances of this occurring are extremely unlikely - however if this does happen, RP bonus will solve it. If that, somehow, is equal, we'll go straight to the IC coin flip.
Hope this helps!
