Erynia and Draconia has 3 major elections every 3 years on the national level: the National Assembly election and the Presidential election, both of which have already passed; and the Senate election, which is happening right now. You, fellow nations of NationStates, get to vote in this election.

Social Liberal Party: Move towards a freer market, but still maintain a strong social safety net
Socialist Alliance: Transition to socialism through reform, implement a living wage, encourage workplace democracy, and have stronger regulations on business

Election update:

This election is looking like an unprecedented one. Both of the major traditional parties, the SD&L on the center-left and the Liberals on the center-right, are performing poorer than ever before. Once just a shadow in the background of Erynia and Draconia's political scene, the Alternative Party is currently tied for first along with the Socialist Alliance.

There are clear winners and losers in this election. This is the worst the SD&L has performed in almost 50 years, which is especially surprising considering their landslide victory in the National Assembly election and Presidential Election very recently. Most of the voters who previously supported the Social Democrats are now backing the Socialist Alliance, with some people switching to the Alternative Party.

The party doing even worse than the Social Democrats is the Liberal Party with 0 votes. For the first time in the party's existence, it may be completely eliminated in the first round of voting. Polls show that most Liberal voters are jumping ship to the Alternative Party, which is appealing to a very large voter-base; everywhere from the traditionally liberal-voting upper middle class to the previously Social Democrat voting rural working class.

We'll have to see how the rest of this first round of voting plays out. One thing we know for sure is that this election will shake Erynia and Draconia's political scene to the core.

Update:

It seems that the lack of support for the Social Democrats was temporary, as they are now in the lead.

The Socialist Alliance and Alternative Party are tied for second place, currently. Both parties are performing excellently this election, and have unprecedented support. We'll see going forward if this trend continues.

This election is undoubtedly bad news for the Liberal Party, however. They still have 0 votes and might get eliminated in the first round, which has never happened in the party's existence.

The Commonwealth Government has elected to express its satisfaction that a wide array of progressive parties have been able to achieve success thusfar in the Erynia-Draconic senate election, especially in the face of fascists. Rather than endorse any one party, we wish to acknowledge the Socialist Alliance, Green Party, SD&L, and Communist Party for their combined efforts, and as such endorse a coalition of the above mentioned parties, to stand against the right-wing reactionary Alternative Party.

To those voters and parties towards the centre, we caution cooperation with Alternative; choose the side of the people and of progress, not of autocrats and regression.

Update:

As Erynia and Draconia goes into the second round of voting, we are seeing similar patterns. The Alternative Party is doing extremely well, while the Social Democrats are falling short. We'll see if the Social Democrats make a comeback like they did in the first round, but for now the Alternative Party is firmly in the lead. In second place is the Greens, who are also performing remarkably well this election. The Socialist Alliance is also getting a good amount of support.

The rise of the Alternative Party is alarming for many, considering their xenophobic rhetoric and controversial policies. The party that was once the fringe of Eryconian politics is now leading the race.
