CURRENT DATE: January 22nd-28th, 1959

Welcome to the Home of the Brave, an American Political and Character RP where players can explore the ins and outs of government, from the southern politics of the Democrats to Progressive Ideas of the Moderate Republicans, to the tooth and nail Civil Rights movement in inner cities and progressive states.

1959, the beginning of a decade of political sociological, and technological change, Sex, Drugs, Rock ‘n’ roll, a decade of Vietnam and Woodstock, a decade where humanity reached the moon and saw communism grip the earth. What is your place? Do you stand as a civil rights leader, marching against oppression? Or are you standing in the doorway of an Alabama schoolhouse? Are you a war hawk advocating for a Cold War to turn hotter? Or will you highlight the basic common bonds that unite us all?

Join the RP as a politician or major figure just before one of the most contentious elections in history, can you do better than the historical figures that dominated the period? Run for president, be a kingmaker or just find your cause to stand for. Where does your ambition lead you?

Play as a Senator, Governor, Congressperson, Mayor or any other figure with a hand in the politics of yesteryear. Or run for office, from military hero to the Presidency to fight for your piece of America's Political pie. Create an original character, make history and help them create, The Home of the Brave.

All characters in this RP are original, and all politicians after FDR died office in 1945 have been replaced with fictional characters. Most events that occurred in real history have occurred in this RP, the economy is in the same shape, the climate, healthcare, are all the same. The only difference is America's entrance into the Vietnam War.

President Henry Davis was elected as a Republican as a War Hero, upsetting the ultimate noninterventionist candidate in a long and hard battle in the primary. Davis is similar to Eisenhower, with similar beliefs regarding civil rights, and foreign affairs, a similar tendency to be quiet yet cunning, and an identical emphasis on rhetoric that has kept American politics stable for his past two terms. In 1955 the Republicans took massive losses across the country resulting in losing the House as well as the Senate. In late 1958, President Davis and congress decided to finally commit to the Vietnam War and there is a great fog over the country, not knowing what will happen, as the draft took many young boys overseas.

As 1959 draws closer to an end, Washington begins to heat up with both the primary fields buffing out, many remain in each party's primaries. In a shocking turn of events, President Davis declares to the nation, that he will not give assistance to the Republican Candidates until the primary is over.

In the midst of a time of great chaos and national confusion, where do you stand?
Former Governor Meridith Brookley (I-FL)
Senator Alberta Broussard (R-LA)

Senator Sofia Fraser walks onto the stage, smiling pleasantly and giving a measured but friendly, wave to the audience as she does, before turning to give Broussard a firm business-like handshake and walking to her podium.

Febarochi: You're first question; why did you agree to this debate, and what good do you think it will do?

Broussard gets to his podium before smiling and speaking,

"I'd first like ta thank Mr. Fraser for paying for this event, and I'd also like to thank my fellow members of the cloth who are here as well as my wonderful Mammy, comin' up yonder from Mississippi! But in response to your question, I'd have to say Louisiana. I came here today to stand up for my great state of Louisiana against Yankee garbage, and I hope that it'll show Yankee doodles like the Frasers that we don't want them down south. I'm sure that in the first half of this century, Mrs. Fraser here might have been a good southern belle from this wonderful city of Charlotte, but the time ain't done her no good, the time that's she spends with the Governor of New York. She's been yankified, and I just want to call her out on that, just like Louisiana wants me to do!"

"I agreed to this debate in my hometown of Charlotte, because all good Americans regardless of where they live, believe in our republic. A republic who's backbone is a citizenry that provides their consent to be governed. The lifeblood of this consent is the free selection of the representatives every level of government. When we neglect to protect and improve this process, we draw closer toward losing our republican form of government to the forces of tyranny that seek to destroy it. They do this to gain or protect power that they are unworthy of having and would lose with the growth of our republic. Mr. Broussard, in his opposition to the overwhelmingly supported poll tax abolition amendment, is in favor of allowing an economic barrier to increasingly undermine our form of government. In doing so, he and those like him show that they see themselves as above our republic."

Broussard laughs before responding, "I ain't heard such funny shit since I heard that Big Bill got stuck in the White House bathtub. What my opponent here is trying to say, is that I am a racist, anti-American, Uncivilized, Unpatriotic buffoon. She probably thinks of me as a dumbass cajun, and that may be so, but it isn't her right to say it." Broussard laughs before going on,

"The facts are these, Louisiana banned the poll tax, and I agreed with that Ban, I hate the poll tax, but the opposition I had to the Amendment in the House was just like this. Listen close Mrs. Fraser. Louisiana banned it on our own accord, we didn't need the Federal Government to step in, and I didn't feel like I, as a man from a state who banned the poll tax, had the authority to legislate over states who do. I don't like the Federal Government controlling every detail of our lives, and I feel like the states deserve wiggle room on what they can and cannot do in their elections."

"I don't know how people live in this here state of North Carolina, so what gives me the right to force y'all to do shit that y'all may not want to do? Pardon my french, Senator Fraser. I was in full support of the Amendment at the beginning, I bet Mrs. Fraser didn't tell y'all that? I change my allegiance when I thought about it's possible consequences. By passing that Amendment, we'd be giving the Federal Government the right to interfere in state elections, and everyone who voted on the bill was able to admit it!"

"If I may add, I also don't understand why folks say I'm against the poor white man, even though I was outspoken on the topic when I supported banning the poll tax in my home state, so I obviously support 'em!"

"Representative Broussard, has said his opposition to poll taxes is proof he isn't against poor whites. Therefore, he must accept, that poll taxes are an infringement on the rights of individuals, in this case, on poor whites.

"Therefore, in saying that the federal government lacks the authority to intervene in this issue, Representative Broussard's position is that there is no force that can prevent state governments from infringing on the rights of individuals. Which means while he opposes the federal government controlling every detail of our lives, it follows that Representative Broussard believes that state governments have the right to control every detail of our lives if they so please as he believes that there is no institution with the authority to prevent this."

"If Representative Broussard, accepts that the poll tax stands in opposition to the interests of the poor white, it follows that he believes is that states that operate with a poll tax exclude the interests of the poor white. Therefore, it follows that Representative Broussard believes state governments, can choose to control every detail of our lives, while excluding those they control from having a say in how their lives are controlled."

"If Representative Broussard believes state governments can have choose to control every detail of our lives without asking for our consent, which he must if he believes the federal government lacks the authority to prevent states from infringing on rights, Representative Broussard believes state governments are allowed to enter into a spiral of tyranny, in which state governments are allowed to use their unchecked power to infringe on the rights of individuals, to disenfranchise those who's rights that they infringe upon, so that they may continue to infringe on the rights of individuals."

"If Representative Broussard believes that poll taxes infringe on the interests poor whites, He believes that the axis along which poll taxes ensure the disenfranchisement is economic. If Representative Broussard believes that states have the right to control ever detail of our lives, it means Representative Broussard believe states have the right make poor and therefore disenfranchise who they please and allow a narrow tyrannical elite to seize the state and all industry."

"Representative Broussard, the doctrine of tyranny is that the rights of governments are above the rights of individuals, the doctrine of liberty, which we must remained grounded in to survive the onslaught of communist tyranny, is that rights of individuals are above the rights of governments. his position is in agreement with the doctrine of communist tyranny, mine is with our doctrine of liberty."

"Lastly, Representative Broussard. I did not call you a racist, anti-American, Uncivilized, Unpatriotic buffoon or a dumbass. I've made a case, our audience decides."

Febarochi: Next question, after the lynching of civil rights activist Gary D. Guidry there has been a public outcry for state and federal governments to do something. How would you stop and/or reduce the amount of lynching's happening in the US particularly the south.

Broussard nodded along with the question before speaking, "Well, I'm going to ignore the Senators attacks on my friends, the people from the state of Louisiana, and the rest of the south who will all be voting come 1960, and continue onto your question, lynchings happen when folk gets angry or upset. I think the state governments have a job to do, and it's their job to fix their states. Gary Guidry, I didn't know the man personally, but I knew the man via his criminal record. Now, this man was arrested many times, for things such as improper bathroom usage, to things such as domestic violence to things such as assault, and I believe one time he got a drug charge. What I can tell you is that in many cases, according to research and studies, lynchings are not acts out of hate, but instead out of anger, and strong beliefs. Another thing I'd like to remind everyone is that federal intervention ain't gonna help squat diddly! Look at Little Rock for instance, President Davis, bless his heart, tried to calm the fire round near that school over yonder. What did his federal intervention cause? Dropouts, more violence, countless cases of bullying, and altogether, it made the school just a damned terrible place to be and that's just a crying damn shame! Ain't that right Mammy?" Broussard asked seeking an approving nod from his Mammy, which was given moments after,

"For the sake of simplicity, I will say that there are two forces behind lynching, forces from below and forces from above. Beginning with forces from below, one must understand lynching as a crime. Like most crime, it tends to a case of the strength of the moral fiber vs the force of poverty tugging against. It is unproductive, for governments to overconcern themselves with directly strengthening the moral fiber of individuals, so we must focus on addressing poverty. We must do this by maintaining an economy in which regulatory barriers are minimized so businesses can hire all those willing to work follow by government, through direct, non-bureaucratic means, ensuring all those who actively helping themselves, have a standard of living above the poverty line. That is the purpose behind the FREE Act proposed by myself, inspired by my husband's work as a Governor and endorsed by both leading Republican campaigns for the Presidency, despite our differences. In so far as lynching is a reaction to criminal behavior, this approach also decreases these instances."

"However we must remember, lynching is unique among crimes. I move now into what I meant by forces from above. There exists, shamefully in our governments at all levels, advocates and apologists for lynching, who support terrorist organizations built around participating and perpetuating this illegal, criminal, immoral and deviant behavior. These people engage in these activities because the terror and division it causes allows them to secure power that they are unworthy of having. In our governments, we can and must defeat these forces at the ballot box. However part of doing that is ensuring that we protect and expand access to voting, to ensure that all constitutionally eligible citizens have both the legal and practical ability to vote. Hence my ongoing support for a Poll Tax Abolition amendment and the recognition that those that stand against it, do so out ignorance and alignment with these unworthy powers. As for those in this unworthy elite that directly engage in illegal activity, it is not poverty that pulls on their moral fiber, but the craving for power they mustn't be allowed, leading and mobilizing treasonous forces that seek to challenge the legitimacy of our representative government through arms. They must be confronted as the hostile force they are and where ongoing treasonous activity is proven, be they public or private citizens, they must be given the punishments befitting their crimes."

"Lastly, Representative Broussard, you believe in the unlimited ability of unworthy elites to use state governments to infringe on the sacred rights of individuals. Your friends are not the south, but your white clothed fellows in the Klan who fight to be that elite through their treason."

After this portion of her speech Febarochi starts pressing a buzzer until she stops talking
Febarochi: I will remind Mrs. Senator Fraser that you only have 1 minute (250 words) to answer questions, these are the rules both parties agreed to when we started this debate and the rules will not change. In other news, Broussard you have 3 minutes (450 words) to rebuttal and then Senator Fraser will have 3 minutes to rebuttal you as well.

"I appreciate the stoppage, as the comments of Representative Broussard have only make my point clearer."

"Representative Broussard does not fight against any elite. He does not believe in the right of individuals above governments. He and those who insist on opposing the abolition of poll taxation believe state governments have an unlimited capacity to deny any white they believe to be sufficiently below them the right to provide their consent to being governed, through the free selection of representatives in elections at all levels. Representative Broussard believes governments ought to have the right to treat individuals, white or not, as if they were property. It's as though this elite that he serves, out of ignorance or complicity, has such when the wage of whites could be suppressed the through slavery of blacks, that they make up for it through the direct disenfranchisement of and therefore sidelining of the interests of, poor whites. Where this elite does not implement a poll tax, it can be safely said that it is with that belief that they've sufficiently whipped the poor whites, of whom who's voices they fear most. The continuing presence of poll taxes, therefore is an indication of concern that they've yet to sufficiently suppress the voice of these disenfranchised poor whites and opposition to a abolition at the federal level, evidence of a concern they might need to crack this whip some more."

"We must continue to work to ensure that all ensure that all those who are constitutionally eligible citizens have both the legal and practical ability to vote and we must promote it's exercise. "Well, this is a big question, as well as an influential question, and a question that impacts our country. The biggest foreign threat is absolutely Communism, whether it be from Russia or from China. Communism is getting closer and closer to us, look at Cuba, look at Vietnam, and look at South America! We need good leaders, not a Ladhe or a Fraser, we need a Jackson or a Boone to kill communism. We need strong leaders, who have, time and time again, proven themselves to be worthy of our country's leadership. There is nothing I can do alone to kill communism, but if I had to be the lone decider, I'd make sure our boys in Vietnam are fighting a winning war, not a war for 'em to die and die a painful and useless death, we gotta win! Our biggest domestic threat is folks like Mrs. Fraser and her husband, who seek to use 'former dixieland might' as I like to call it. Mrs. Fraser prides herself on being from North Carolina, but tries to push Yankee ideology onto y'all and the rest of the Land of Dixie!" Hubert begins waving his hands and moving across the stage as if preaching, "We don't need another Lincoln, who let soldiers ransack our homes, kill our animals, disrespect our women, destroy towns, set churches ablaze. Not to mention, Mrs. Fraser claims to care so much about the colored folk, yet she doesn't know the damages that Lincoln's War caused them, AS WELL as us!" Hubert knew he went over his time, but continued anyway to get his message across.
