Welcome to the 2021 Astyrian Formula One Championship! This is where the best teams and the fastest drivers from all over Astyria gather to battle one another in a spectacular showcase of speed. Follow us as we race in 21 tracks located across the region, each offering daunting challenges for drivers and different experiences for fans.

A new decade brings with it new opportunities. We have many things to be excited about as the 2021 technical regulations are going to make their debut. Some of the changes include the return of ground effect and wheel covers, simplified front and rear wings, 18-inch rims, and the removal of barge boards. Extensive testing in previous years has shown that these changes have reduced the impact of dirty air on cars - while the 2020 cars lose up to 50% downforce behind another car, 2021 cars will only lose 5-10%. The AMF is confident that this will encourage more opportunities for drivers to battle for places.

Furthermore, teams will be able to use standardized components beginning this year. These parts may include standard parts (such as the fuel system), prescribed designs (such as wheel arches and covers), and transferable parts (such as the gearbox). Teams will also be restricted in the number of aerodynamic upgrades they can make over a race weekend and the course of the season. This ensures that no team can gain a significant competitive advantage over their rivals, as well as reduce development costs.

This season also brings new faces (and a new team) to AstyF1. With the departure of 2020 Drivers' Champion Simo Rassinen, Sidus have brought in Aquitaynian rookie and 2020 F2 Champion Lauren Blake to replace him. The Valkean works team will be making history, as it will be the first time that a female driver will be competing in a full championship season. AMZ will be making their debut in the sport with an all-new team, featuring Aleksander Valiny of Astyrian Endurance Championship fame and Dalriny Mikov, who was a tour de force in the Astyrian E-Prix Series. Time will tell whether these up-and-coming talents will impress us over the coming years.

Having just come off the back of their 4th Constructors' Title, Sidus will have to do everything it can to defend its title. The team has a new face driving for it, and its rivals MacGregor, Phaeton, and LZS have made significant waves in pre-season testing. Will they be able to add a 5th title to their shelf or will they fall behind? If they have to answer this question, they have to start here at the sacred tarmac where AstyF1 was born: the 5.89 km Sherbourne Circuit in the Aswickan countryside.

The first round of qualifying went well for MacGregor's Conway Prescott, who clocked a time of 1:27.857. The Phaeton drivers Pekka Koivu and Tertius DiParadisa weren't far behind, each being only a second behind Prescott. However, AMZ didn't have the best of starts, with Valiny and Mikov in 21st and 24th place, respectively. Regardless, the Sloverti team remains unfazed by this, stating that their car setup will be enough for both to gain places on race day.

Prescott continued to claim provisional pole for Q2, this time with his teammate Steven Grey close behind. However, the home team's hopes of a front row lockout have been shattered as Koivu took pole position in Q3, gaining over Prescott by 2/1000ths of a second. Worse still, LZS's Ivan Jovanović took P3, splitting the two MacGregor drivers. In her first qualifying session of the 2021 season, Blake clocked the 6th fastest time, a remarkable performance from the rookie. And finally, Nick Hardy will be starting on the grid in 9th, a sign that Delaney may be starting to shed its 2020 misfortunes.

The lights went out at the Aswickan Grand Prix on a sunny afternoon as Koivu got a fantastic start off the line, with the MacGregors in hot pursuit of the Phaeton. Stefan Lakowski made up several places in the scramble, passing car after car in an exemplary display of skill and experience. Troubles began almost immediately for DiParadisa, who had to retire from the race due to an engine failure. The yellow flag was briefly waved in Sector 2.

At the front, the MacGregor drivers were putting the pressure on Koivu as the laps went by. Prescott came in to pit at Lap 21, but was delayed due to a tire change error. This allowed for Grey to close the gap on his teammate, and he eventually passed him on Lap 24. Grey continued to clock fastest lap after fastest lap, getting within striking distance of Koivu on Lap 33 and passing him the following lap on the way to Turn 6. However, the Valkean eventually caught up to him and passed him on Lap 44.

The newcomers at AMZ wasted no time at getting to the front. Valiny and Mikov were making their way through the 300 kph throng, and by the half point they had surged to 14th and 17th, respectively. Mikov maintained this position until the end, while Valiny had gained a place and finished in 13th place. The Sloverti team's first race as a constructor was a modest success, but they still had a long season ahead of them to make an impact. Maybe with enough patience, their hard work will pay off.

Despite having to contend with seasoned veterans, Blake was able to fend them off and steadily gain places, battling Santoro, Jovanović, and Lakowski for many thrilling laps. By Lap 44 she was behind Prescott's wing, and battled the Aswickan until she was able to overtake him on the straight heading towards Turn 15. From that point on, she held 3rd place until the checkered flag dropped.

Angelbridge driver Decius Whitewall held his own decently in the midfield, but gearbox troubles would take him out on the very last lap. His teammate Octavius Clearwater was languishing at the rear for most of the race, that was until the team's one-stop strategy had worked in their favor. This allowed for him to finish the race in 14th.

A jubilant Koivu celebrated on the top step of the podium, having broken Prescott's four-year winning streak at the Aswickan Grand Prix. Grey finished in 2nd, and once again had to come to terms with the fact that another chance of victory at Sherbourne had eluded him. Blake came in 3rd, claiming a podium finish for Sidus, and in so doing has etched her name into the history books. What a start to the 2021 season!

However, with DiParadisa out, MacGregor was able to take an early lead in the Constructors' Championship, gaining 30 points on the day. However, Koivu's win ensured that Phaeton was not too far behind, with the scarlet team only lagging by 5 points. Sidus, Raamaker, and LZS rounded out the top 5, winning 19, 14, and 12 points, respectively.

Welcome to Round 2 of the 2021 Astyrian Formula One season! You join us as the season went off with a bang with Pekka Koivu's sensational win at Sherbourne and the MacGregors taking the lead in the Constructors' Standings. With competition expected to be just as fierce as last year, what will this next race bring?

It's time to find out at the Mizia Grand Prix. The Bakunin Circuit in St. Louis is one of Lorecia's most modern racetracks, designed to bring F1 to the nation. With elevation changes and challenging corners, this circuit quickly became a favorite for both fans and drivers. In fact, many have compared this track to the Saint Moritz Circuit, host of the Nidwaldeser Grand Prix that will come later this year. Expect some great racing ahead!

While the wet conditions meant that no one was going to be posting any lap records on Saturday, the drivers still took up the challenge. MacGregor have locked out the front row in qualifying, with Steven Grey on pole position and Conway Prescott alongside him. The Phaetons of Pekka Koivu and Tertius DiParadisa were just behind them, but splitting the two was Merlin's Gianpiero Santoro, who was nearly 3/10ths of a second quicker than the Confederate.

The Siduses of Lauren Blake and Guy Bassett, which may aid the Valkean team's chances of getting the most out of Sunday's race. Maximilian Frentzen placed himself in 9th, marking the first time that a Breuer had cleared Q3 this year.

Clear skies defined Sunday's race as the cars scrambled for position. Everyone managed to get away cleanly for the first few laps, however many drivers began to struggle as tires began wearing out earlier than usual. The MacGregors double stacked on Lap 12, though troubles with Prescott's tires delayed his stop. This threw a wrench into the team's plans.

By comparison, Koivu and DiParadisa took more care of their tires in the opening stages, staying out and inheriting 1st and 2nd place, respectively. The latter continued to stay out even as his teammate pitted near the halfway point of the race, which meant that the Confederate was leading. However, the wide gap that DiParadisa had built ensured that he would continue to lead the race despite pitting himself on Lap 44 - a testament to his exemplary tire conservation skills.

Determined to make up for the gains he had lost, Koivu began to chase down Grey, but he would struggle to do so for many laps due to the latter's smart positioning and consistent pace. However, on Lap 47, the Aswickan locked up on Turn 4, allowing for his Valkean opponent to pass him.

Prescott was even less lucky, as he had to pit for another set of tires on Lap 49. As a consequence, Blake and Bassett had closed the gap enough to put the pressure on him towards the end, snatching 4th and 5th, respectively.

In the end it was Phaeton that prevailed at the Mizia Grand Prix, with DiParadisa and Koivu delivering a 1-2 finish, while grey rounded out the podium in 3rd. Furthermore, DiParadisa earned the fastest lap of the race, which meant that the Confederate team took the maximum amount of points that day. This put them ahead of MacGregor in the Constructors' Standings by a significant margin. Gianpiero Santoro and Dominic Hudnall finished in 8th and 10th, giving Merlin their first points of the season.

Welcome to Round 3 of the 2021 Astyrian Formula One Championship, now coming to you live from the Arika Circuit in Trellin! Two weeks ago, the scarlet cars of Tertius DiParadisa and Pekka Koivu have triumphed in Mizialand with a 1-2 finish and extended their lead over the competition. In this new era of technical regulations, Phaeton are looking strong. Will they be able to keep up their winning streak, or will another constructor take the checkered flag?

It's time to find out as we head to the city of Tegari, located in Azmir. Fans and drivers will be enduring the brunt of the Trellinese sun as the cars navigate this 4.43 km circuit. Lots of close racing and intense speed come in spades, making this racetrack a classic for many. The track surface has recently been repaved, so expect some loss of grip to shake things up a bit.

Week 3: Qualifying
Image
Conditions: Rainy
Lap Record: 00:01:21.648
Qualifying Type: Elimination
Nation: TRE
Circuit: Arika Circuit (Küitan Arika)

A deluge of heavy rain descended upon the circuit moments before qualifying, but it gradually faded away as the drivers posted times. The LZS cars shone through, with Stefan Lakowski and Ivan Jovanović posting quick lap times. But it was Lakowski's experience and skill that won him the day, earning him pole position. However, the Lizzies were unable to guarantee a front-row lockout - Dominic Hudnall pushed to the limits of his Merlin and was handsomely rewarded with a 2nd place start.

The Phaetons who have been dominant for the past two races will be starting behind Jovanović in 4th and 5th, with Guy Bassett and Steven Grey behind them in 6th and 7th. Disappointment came for Conway Prescott, as a lockup at Turn 6 ruined his chances of clearing Q2. Even more disappointment came for Gianpiero Santoro, who had to slow down due to a safety car caused by Aleksander Valiny's spin at Turn 10.

Week 3: Race

Conditions: Dry
Laps: 69

Circuit: Arika Circuit (Küitan Arika)
Event: Azmir Grand Prix
Safety Car Deployed on Laps: 4, 5
Cars on Grid: 24

A bright and sunny day didn't faze the thousands of fans that have arrived to cheer their favorite drivers on. The pack was able to get away cleanly, and there wasn't much change in the pecking order at the start. However, a collision between Steven Grey and Robert van Grol caused the former to lose his front wing, triggering the safety car. Grey was forced to pit to replace it, but a botched pit stop meant that his rear left wheel wasn't fastened properly. He was thus forced to retire from the race, lest he be disqualified.

Sevir's Phillip Rollins was the next driver to fall away, ending his race prematurely due to an engine failure. A virtual safety car was called for Sector 2.

Meanwhile in front, the Nikolian was having a good race thus far. Lakowski kept his lead for much of the race, with Hudnall and Jovanović struggling to keep up. Both would later lose their positions to Lauren Blake, who undercutted on Lap 14 and stayed out as the rest of the field was expected to make their first stops.

Koivu was able to get the jump on his teammate when DiParadisa pitted with the rest of the field on Lap 23. He would then steadily pass Jovanović, Hudnall, and Blake through the remainder of the race, and was closing in on Lakowski. He pitted on hards on Lap 27, going for a one-stop strategy, overcutting most drivers who have instead went for a two-stop strategy. This allowed him to stay out and pass his rivals, building a steady lead all the way to the finish.

Disaster struck for Hudnall as his gearbox suffered a catastrophic failure on Lap 39: a truly unfortunate thing considering that Merlin would have clinched a podium had he kept his pace up. Stepping up to the plate was his teammate, Gianpiero Santoro, who was able to climb from the back to claim 6th place. And so, fans chose the Monsan driver as Driver of the Day. Maximilian Frentzen retired much later in the race on Lap 55 due to an electrical failure on his Breuer.

Pekka Koivu claimed his 2nd victory of the season, extending his lead over the rest of the field. Lakowski and Jovanović won 2nd and 3rd place for LZS, putting the Nikolian constructor closer to their rivals at MacGregor and Sidus. Blake was able to claim 4th for Sidus, and DiParadisa had to settle for 5th with the humiliation of being lapped by his teammate.
