The criminal detention center at Janoah Grounds had kept medium to high-security prisoners since it was first built in 1866. The original square structure still dominates the complex with its tall brick walls and large battlements at each point. Smaller and more modern extensions have been built and they jut out from the walls like branches.
Even with the expansions, Janoah Grounds frequently finds itself overcrowded but things reached a breaking point when a new influx of temporary inmates put the 2200 capacity prison to just over 2400. The overworked staff attempted to shuffle prisoners around to make space, but this resulted in agitating the delicate social order that held the prison together. Altercations with guards broke out spontaneously in the west wing and as the institution went into lockdown, conflict erupted in other parts of the prison.
As the west wing's armory was taken by the prisoners, the warden ordered a full evacuation of staff from Janoah Grounds. The Governor has since activated the local Shalish militia, who under the command of Lt. General Garry Morish, has surrounded the prison with artillery batteries and is prepared to turn Janoah Grounds back to the salt of the earth unless the prisoners lay down their arms and surrender.
