Duovograd Police Disperse Religious Gathering

Memorial Services Held By Reman Catholic Church

Duovograd's Reman Catholic Church which has been closed until further notice.

Units of the People's Police were called to downtown Duovograd earlier today after residents complained about a disturbance caused by a gathering outside Duovograd's only Reman Catholic Church. Members of the small religious minority were taking part in an authorised gathering to mourn the death of Pope John XXV who passed way earlier this week after a long battle with cancer.

Narodnaya Pravda understands that the mourners were in the process of leaving the church, located in the Novetskaia District at the junction of General Oleksy Duov Routeway and Komsomol Street, when Bishop Andrey Severnikov, the most senior clerical figure in the United Soviet States, began to give an unplanned final sermon in a bid to lift the spirits of his congregation. Eyewitnesses report that the mood of the congregation had been 'most subdued'. A spokesperson for the Internal Security Service of the State Directorate of Internal Affairs(GUVD) which was monitoring the gathering stated that the content of the sermon was well within the approved parameters. However, the start of the sermon caused the crowd to stall in the process of exiting which caused a blockade of the local footpath. Pedestrians using the footpath were forced to step onto the road in order to proceed and curious onlookers caused the crowd to grow in size until it began to obstruct the flow of vehicle traffic. Residents reported hearing the beeping of horns and shouting as angry commuters attempted to pass. When the disturbance showed no signs of clearing up, numerous calls were placed to the Novetskaia District's local police station.

The first policemen on the scene were members of the Traffic Corps who attempted to move the traffic onwards. However, the size of the crowd that had gathered at this point meant that these efforts were unsuccessful. The Bishop is understood to have stopped preaching and to have urged his followers to move back into the church but the size of the crowd meant that these efforts were also thwarted. Reinforcements were deployed by the police commander of the Novetskaia District in order to resolve the issue. As a precaution, the OMON police tactical unit was mobilised but was later stood down as unnecessary. Police halted all traffic at the intersection and herded all of the pedestrians who had strayed onto the road back to the safety of the pavement. The original group which had emerged from the church were ordered to return inside until the onlookers had been dispersed. Once this had been achieved, traffic movement was restored and the churchgoers were instructed to leave in an orderly fashion while the Bishop was taken into GUVD custody.

In a public statement, Colonel Oleg Levin of the Duovograd People's Police announced that the Novetskaia District Church is being fined the sum of 5000 People's Labour Credits for causing a public disturbance. He also announced that Bishop Severnikov is being fined for breaching State regulations prohibiting unauthorised public preaching and may face imprisonment if the fine is not paid. The Colonel continued by stating that the People's Police would undertake a review of its policies regarding the policing of religious gatherings as well as the issuance of permits to religious bodies. Narodnaya Pravda understands that the Novetskaia District Church had acquired a police permit in order to display the pope's portrait on a stand outside the church for a week. Finally, Colonel Levin announced that no action would be taken against members of the church congregation unless further public disturbances occurred in the future. Bishop Severnikov has since been released by the GUVD. He is expected to appear before the People's Tribunal next week.

The Soviet Government has yet to comment on the death of the Reman pope. However, the General Staff of the People's Armed Forces indicated that discrete memorial services could be held in barracks at the discretion of the garrison commander.

Prokop Sramek is the most likely candidate to win in the elections.

Just as every four years, the Kryvian nation of Raditia has one again launched it's elections. The three main candidates are Karel Linhart, Anna Jicova and Prokop Šrámek. This election comes as the most likely to win candidate, Prokop Sramek, openly criticized SACTO's involvement in Kryvian affairs. So far, Sramek - san has been leading in national polls, despite Linhart-san following him closely.

On a press conference called in Ishikawa, his excellency, the Shogun of the Empire of Greater Nifon, Kojiro-dono ue, announced that he does not intend to involve the Empire of Greater Nifon too deeply in Eulabian affairs. In his excellency's words, there is nothing that Nifon could gain from protracted involved in any area of Eulabia. Neither will Empire of Greater Nifon endorse any candidate, seeing the elections as domestic affair of Raditia.

On the other hand, his excellency expressed concern, citing that until now Raditia had been a recipient of Nifonese military hardware, as well having growing economic ties with the Empire of Greater Nifon. In addition to that, two SACTO nations - Bolrieg and Stojam - are located in the region, both having positive ties with Nifon. His excellency expressed hopes that no deterioration in relations between those states will happen and offered to act as mediator in potential conflicts.

On concluding note, the shogun himself offered any victor in the elections to visit Ishikawa. "I hope that such a meeting will further the cause of intrnational collective security" he said, edning the press conference.

Mr Prokop Šrámek currently seems to be in the lead. Šrámek took over the party leadership following the 2016 elections, in which the Labour Pary suffered a major defeat. Could this be the return of the RLP? On the other hand, the numbers of the Prime Minister Anna Jicova seems to staggeringly weak, she is currently at the third post. Which means if the Šrámek fails to secure 50% of the vote, we will see a Linhart-Šrámek runoff election. I believe that will be definitely be a spectactle...

Reporter: It is like looking at a place hit by typhoon <camera zooms on ripped out chairs, rubble, demolished fence> an angry mob of Stojamian hooligans came and rushed at fans of FK Orao, who were forced to defend themselves. It took minutes until the police managed to stabilize the situation, and thousands of bystanders were caught in the riot. The police of prostna did not include even basic security measures as body checks as multiple hooligans were reported to posses dangerous items such as switch-blades.

Presenter: Do you think it was an organized incident?

Reporter: Of course! It was reported that members of most active Stojamian nationalist organisations, even supporters of LDS were here. In fact it looks like the aggression was organized not under football, but under nationalist pretense. Stojamanian hooligans were repeatedly chanting their desire for Cetynia to burn after all.

Yesterday, our country found itself under assault. What went on in Tomasevic Arena wasn't just a mere football riot; it was an organized assault on our nationality by a coalition of Stojamian criminals and nationalists, who see our claim to possess a separate identity as a challenge to their attempts to exploit our country. Our domestic intelligence services uncovered credible evidence that the aggression was organized and financed by Chernogorsk Clan, and by members of LDS and other Stojamian nationalist groups. For them to partake in acts of violence is unforgivable.

As such I vow that organizers of this assault will be swiftly brought to justice, wherever they may hide. It is time to demonstrate that our country is and will be more than a criminal black market the word considers us to be.

ŠRÁMEK CLAIMS THE PRESIDENCY, LINHART CONTESTS

The Raditian Presidential election concluded yesterday at midnight and with the 95% of votes counted, it is safe to assume that Prokop Šrámek of the Raditian Labour Party is to be inaugurated as the 6th President of the Second Raditian victory. Šrámek claims 53.3% of the vote, giving him absolute majority making the second round of the Presidential Election unnecessary.

Though the victory is currently contested by Karel Linhart who ended up second claiming 34.1% of the vote. Meanwhile the LDA's candidate, Prime Minister Anna Jizcova suffered a major defeat, securing only 10% of the vote.

All is not yet over though, as the National Assembly is still controlled by the centre-right coalition. The fate of the current status quo will have will be decided in the upcoming legislative election.

There are plans for a speedy inauguration by the next friday. Mr. Šrámek also announced that he would be happy to meet with the Nifonese government in Ishikawa and discuss the current situation in Kryvia.

INAUGURATION OF PROKOP ŠRÁMEK

Yesterday afternoon, 9th of April 2021, the Raditian Labour Party veteran Prokop Šrámek successfully swore the oath to protect the Republic, its constitution and its people. As such he was officially recognized as the 7th President of the Second Raditian Republic. Even though the Karel Linhart attempted to overturn the results in the courts, the recount has not changed the elections in any major way.

The new President's inauguration speech began charitably. "It can not be denied that our nation has done great progress since it threw away the shackles of the totalitarian dictatorship. Many of us enjoy great prosperity even in these otherwise dire times."

But continued a bit more critically. "But it also can not be denied that no all of our citizens were able to reap the full fruits of their labour. And that many were left behind when it came to their economic situation."
He then moved away from economic issues towards the social ones. "And it also can not be denied that our state failed to ensure basic protection to all its citizens no matter their creed, no matter their kind."

Afterwards he summarized his views on the issues. "To me that represents a certain degree of failure in our pursuit to create a civilized and humane society."".

He ended his brief speech with this: "It is not may goal to start revolutions. We already had a plenty of them to see they solve nothing. It is not my goal to return us to pre-1976 times. I am not a madman. But it is, always was and always will be my goal to fight against injustice everywhere and to ensure a basic level of social and material dignity every human being of good nature is entitled to."

As was expected, the President's first action was to call for a legislative election to secure majority in the National Assembly.

VivarRios: Results of CaBI19 vaccine trials 'promising'

Carlosian pharmaceutical giant VivarRios have today announced the interim results of Phase III trials for its CaBI19 vaccine candidate 'CabiShield', describing them as 'promising'. According to the company, data indicates that the toxoid-based vaccine is 95% effective against developing an infection, and 100% effective against fatal outcomes. The deadly CaBI19 disease, which cut a swath across the Southern Furukuran Sea last year, has claimed thousands of lives in the region. It is caused by the previously unknown Clostroides abaddoni bacteria, which produces a dangerous toxin. The urban metropolis of Kesslerstaadt has been particularly ravaged by the pandemic, with flare-ups of the disease continuing to prevent the country from fully recovering. Close to bankruptcy last year, Kesslerstaadt was bailed out by the Redshield Foundaton. Jakarnapura, Potomiak and South Oceanica have also imposed some restrictions to control local outbreaks.

Due to the isolated cases of infection in Carloso, it is unlikely to see widespread use domestically, but it is expected that countries that have been heavily affected by the pandemic will be eager to strike deals with the company and obtain the vaccine. It has been developed in collaboration with Serca Circuit University. Managing Director of VivarRios, Marc Linares, revealed that the company will now seek regulatory approval from Carlosian authorities and meet with the health ministers of several interested countries in the coming weeks.

IVAN KURCHATOV DIES

LEFT-WING PARAMILITARIES HOLD VIGIL FOR FALLEN COMRADE

The death of notorious militia commander Ivan Semyonovich Kurchatov was announced earlier today in a statement released by the People's Revolutionary Guards of Kazovia. Kurchatov was reportedly killed when he was crushed by his car while servicing the vehicle on a hydraulic lift. In its address, the NRGK paid tribute to a man who had for years been one of its most senior members.

Much has been written about the man who called himself Ivan Kurchatov, and even more has been speculated about. What little that is known about him comes from the few interviews he gave to Kazovian and Soviet media and from accounts given by his comrades. Kurchatov was notoriously careful about concealing his appearance, seldom appearing without a balaclava. His reclusiveness was so extreme that even the State Security Service(SGB) was unsure as to his true appearance. All that could be said about the man was that he was male.

Ivan Kurchatov's association with the separatist movement began at an early age. In an interview with KNN some years prior, he described the elation that he had felt in 1993 when Svadyetskan tanks rolled through the streets of Brezen. "The Soviets were coming," he told KNN. "They were coming to liberate us, their countrymen. We were born in Kazovia, but in our hearts we were Svadyetskan. Our ancestors were Stebanians, their land taken when the Rostovians snatched up Stanislav the Conqueror's territories, the land that he conquered from the Kazovs. I remember cheering as the Soviet troops came into the city. They marched in unopposed and we lined the streets. A couple of the soldiers let us climb onto one of their tanks. For the first time in my life, I felt free." The elation that Kurchatov felt was short-lived. The Soviets swept through the eastern half of the country before their advance stalled. With Nifonese support, the government in Minov was able to push back the invasion. Like many ethnic Svadyetskans, Kurchatov took up arms to help fend off the Kazovian counteroffensive. After weeks of heavy fighting, General Alexei Petrov's forces were pushed back into Svadyetsk. Kurchatov went with them. The eventual ceasefire with the United Soviet States brought peace to Kazovia, but only temporarily.

In Svadyetsk, Kurchatov received training from the State Directorate of Internal Affairs(GUVD), the Soviet intelligence and state security service. The peace was young and many on both sides of the border felt that hostilities would resume once again. The GUVD sought to create a fifth column, a task force of Kazovian-born fighters who could act within Kazovia prior to another invasion. Kurchatov and his comrades returned to Kazovia in 1995. Anton Pavlic, a regional commander in the SGB, explained the reasons behind this move. "The peace was holding and Petrov's new government was making moves to keep things stable. Kurchatov and his friends believed that the Soviets weren't doing enough to liberate their brethren in Kazovia. They went to the GUVD men who trained them and said, 'you trained us to fight, but we are sitting on our asses. Let us go back, and we can weaken the enemy'. At the time, the GUVD wasn't as beholden to the government as it is now. So, they sent Kurchatov and the others home."

Arriving in Brezen once more, Kurchatov and his fellow fighters sought out like-minded individuals. In late 1995, the Uhtrovsk Liberation Front emerged, with Kurchatov at the helm. "We had problems with guerrilla fighters and such after the war," Pavlic told KNN. "We had separatists in Uhtrovsk, we had separatists in Morovka, basically anywhere in the eastern parts where someone could trace their ancestry back to a man on a horse coming from what is now Svadyetsk. There were armed men drilling in public squares, in the roads. They'd vanish as soon as the OMON guys showed up. You could still buy automatics on the open market back then and the Soviet kit from the war was still floating around. Occasionally, you'd hear about a skirmish with police or a raid on an army convoy to get arms. Most of it was sabre-rattling with little actions here and there to show you were still in the game. Kurchatov's boys changed all that. The GUVD trained them in explosives and they thought they'd put what they'd learnt to good use."

The Uhtrovsk insurgency began in November 1996 when bombs ripped through a military parade in Brezen. The Uhtrovsk Liberation Front released a statement claiming responsibility for the attack. Kurchatov presented a list of demands to the national government: demilitarisation of the Uhtrovsk region, an end to discrimination against ethnic Svadyetskans, and the right for the people of Uhtrovsk to secede from the Federal Republic. The ULF's actions emboldened the other separatist groups in the east. As government forces poured into Uhtrovsk, fighting broke out in neighbouring Morovka, Smolyanka and Chernovsk. The police forces were rapidly overwhelmed and the paramilitaries gained ground. Brezen became a no-go area, with Kurchatov's forces inflicting heavy casualties on government troops. The national cabinet authorised the deployment of the army into the contested regions, designated the separatist militias as terrorist groups, and quickly sought the support of Nifon to try and bring an end to the fighting. The conflict grew bloodier as the government committed to driving out the separatists who now held large parts of the major cities.

After months of fighting, government forces succeeded in defeating the separatist groups. Kurchatov and other separatist leaders changed tactics, switching to hit-and-run raids on government facilities and personnel. A bombing campaign began in 1997, with bombs detonating as far away as Minov. The government crackdown intensified, driving more and more people into the arms of the separatists. A spate of bombings, shooting incidents and hostage situations were attributed to Kurchatov and the ULF by the SGB. The SGB began targeting separatist leaders, arresting some and assassinating others. Kurchatov proved able to escape the crackdown, becoming one of the most feared and elusive men fighting the government.

Kurchatov's aims were initially not aligned with those of many of the other groups that sought to break away from Minov's control. Some sought to reestablish historic polities that had long been subsumed into greater enemies. Even the communist paramilitaries had differing aims. The Morovka People's Revolutionary Guards(MPRG) fought to establish a breakaway communist state, while Kurchatov aimed for a union with Svadyetsk. In February 1998, Kurchatov proposed the creation of a union to the leaders of the other separatist groups. Under his plan, the separatist groups would unite under a common banner and fight to establish the areas they controlled as an independent state. Once victory had been assured, they would then negotiate to satisfy each group's long-term aims. The union was rejected by most of the separatist militias. However, an alternative arrangement was accepted by the communist paramilitaries. The People's Revolutionary Guards of Kazovia(NRGK) emerged as a central coordinating body within the left-wing separatist groups. While each group would act for the most part in its own interests, they agreed to operate in tandem under the NRGK's coordination when the situation demanded it. The NRGK would go on to issue statements on behalf of the various groups who operated under its banner and served as a point of contact for government negotiators.

The fighting in Uhtrovsk and Morovka continued for years, with a state of martial law being maintained until 2008. SGB efforts to apprehend or eliminate Kurchatov proved unsuccessful. The communist paramilitaries received tacit, if unofficial, support from the United Soviet States. The GUVD provided arms and training to groups such as the ULF, MPRG and other NRGK-aligned organisations. In 2006, Soviet support to the separatists ended when government negotiators made breakthroughs in Duovograd and the Soviet government clamped down on the GUVD's independence. With their lifeline cut, it was inevitable that the NRGK and its proxies would weaken. It was in early 2007 when Kurchatov approached the government to ascertain the possibility of a cease-fire. The fighting had gone on for over a decade, killing soldiers and separatist fighters with many more civilians dying in the crossfire. The government had determined that victory over the separatists was possible but only if yet more troops were committed. Kurchatov had recognised that continued struggle would only cause more bloodshed and that the separatists could never win the conflict. Thus, he sought a negotiated end to the fighting.

In March 2008, Kurchatov and the other members of the NRGK's army council met with other separatist groups. They agreed to support a united front in negotiations with the government. Representatives of the NRGK, the Uhtrovsk Freedom Fighters and the Revolutionary Party of Smolyanka sat down with the government in Brezen. A cease-fire came into effect that day. After weeks of negotiation, a peace deal was hammered out. The main separatist groups agreed to lay down their arms and enter the political process while the national government promised greater autonomy for regional governments. Controversially, the government agreed to offer amnesty to all separatist fighters. Martial law was ended in December of that year. In January 2009, Kurchatov appeared on state television. Clad in his trademark balaclava and windbreaker, he told the world that the NRGK had signed the deal agreed with the government and called upon its supporters to back the political process.

Despite the general amnesty, Kurchatov continued to remain anonymous, fearing retribution for his actions during the insurgency. Additionally, right-wing fringe groups sought to continue the government's war against the separatists. Kurchatov is believed to have gone underground in order to combat the far-right. "It wasn't like the height of the insurgency," Anton Pavlic admitted. "We had the occasional shooting here and there, maybe a bomb. Most of the violence was on the right-wing's side. People were tired of all the violence. I think Kurchatov recognised that." The far-right agreed to a cessation of violence with the government in 2011.

With the end of fighting, Kurchatov remained hidden. The SGB believed that he had opted to stay underground in order to guard against any reversals in the government's agreement with him and his allies. Indeed, the SGB was unsure if Kurchatov was even alive. "We didn't even know what he looked like," Pavlic told KNN sheepishly. "He always wore that damn balaclava and a bunch of separatist hackers actually managed to wipe a large chunk of the records early in the insurgency. We might have had his arrest photo at some point but that would have gone in the cyberattack. The physical copies would have been in one of the police stations in Brezen, and of course those got burned out during the fighting. We couldn't know if Kurchatov was dead and someone was using his name. Heck, we can't even know if he was even a real person and not just an alias. We don't even know if he's actually dead!"

Ivan Semyonovich Kurchatov's legacy is a controversial one. For years, he was a senior separatist commander and an internationally condemned terrorist, yet he would go on to be an instrumental part of the peace process in Uhtrovsk. His supporters are many and his name reviled by countless citizens. As ULF militiamen took to the streets of Brezen today, one thing is clear. While Ivan Kurchatov may be dead, his spirit lives on.

Allegations of Corruption Emerge in Arms Deal

ARAGON-A consortium of investigative journalists on the online newspaper La Luz have accused the Ministry of National Defense of being complacent in corruption surrounding an arms deal with the nation of Nifon. The journalists claim that according to their findings notable officials within the MoND's procurement office, including Air Force and Navy officers, accepted bribes from the Nifonese defense firm Toyotama. Toyotama is the manufacturer of the J-125T Tenrai fighter aircraft, which was one of the competitors in the F-X fighter tender for the Air Force and Naval Combat Aircraft tender for the Navy. After years of tests among the different competitors, the Tenrai won both tenders, leading to the purchase of a total of 36 fighters (24 for the air force and 12 for the navy), with an option of 24 more.

Recently, the allegations detail that Toyotama bribed the officials overseeing the program to select the Tenrai as the winner for both purchases, and the Ministry of National Defense overlooked the corruption in order to preserve Langenia's close ties with its Nifonese ally, in addition to having approved of the Tenrai's effectiveness. The scandal has sparked an outcry among numerous groups both within the government and the population.

Notably, hours after the latest legislative session in which criticism was leveled against the presidential administration, the offices of both La Luz and the Workers' Party were raided by police on charges of espionage, defamation of the government through the use of false statements, and corruption. These raids led to the arrests of multiple members of both organizations.

The Nifonese company Toyotama, a central figure in the alleged corruption scandal, did not respond to requests from Noticias de la Republica for comment on the matter.

Uranium Mining Question to be Settled

GALADOR, Sombreland--The Minister of Divinity, Prince Yalam Hezibo, has announced that a council, of all government directorates, will be meeting to discuss the results of research presented by the Directorate of Weighs and Measures related to the discovery of uranium deposits in the Shada region of Sombreland, which is held to be an area where important ancestral lands are. Military Reforms Officially Launched in Sombreland

GALADOR, Sombreland--The Director of Military Affairs, Grand Admiral Lio Teroth, formally presented the readiness of the nation's military forces to adopt Plan Humility to improve military performance by freeing the military caste from onerous and humiliating duties of menial work. While for a long time, tasks such as cooking, cleaning, and servants' duties were carried out by the labour castes serving the warrior caste, now tasks such as maintenance related operations will be carried out by a special corps known as the Labour Corps in the nation's military.

This policy is not diminishing customs of harmony and unity. \it is, rather, restoring it. Customarily, labour tasks are undertaken for the warrior caste by the labouring castes. Each soldier, sailor, or airman, will have at least three members of the labouring caste to provide support to them. For some units, this number will be greater. During the time of the initiation of reform, certain units will be taken and placed on reserve status while machines and bases are given time for the new Labour Corps is put to work. It goes without saying that certain tasks, such as cleaning weapons and loading them, will still be the sole responsibility of the warrior caste.

The Labour Corps will be commanded by officers of the Support Corps, which will continue to be reserved for officers and other ranks who are either injured, or incapable of doing other tasks but still wish to serve.

The buerocracy will be undertaken by Mili Amean, Counciller of the Tax Office. With this program Potomiak could finally call itself a nation of the road of development. The new factories would indirectly boost education and incomes of ordinary Potomians.

In total this program will help Potomiak grately with a relatively low pricetag and with help from great allies within SFS Potomiak is sure to be with some of the most advanced nations in all of Kali Yuga.

Royal Government Plans to Fix Agriculture Crisis!

GALADOR, Sombreland-- The result of a year long series of negotiations and talks between the Princess-Regent, Alavaine, and Queen Sapphira Frasch of Oktotheio has resulted in a trade agreement that will increase food safety throughout Sombreland in exchange for manufacturing and a defense agreement, a spokesman for the Gray Palace said today.

While the Kingdom's manufacturers and industrialists have been selling both natural resources and manufactured resources related to uranium, coal, petroleum and minerals used in manufacturing in order to secure more national support, the deal with Oktotheio promises to bring in food surpluses over the next year. This has been hailed as a triumph by many in government.

The opinion of certain officials and members of the courtly and military castes regarding greater liberalization have been felt, by some, to have been heard out by the deal between Sombreland and Oktotheio. Oktotheio, after all, is somewhat authoritarian, but has many policies which fly in the face of tradition for the majority of Sombrelanders. For instance, nudity is mandatory in Oktotheio, public personal intimacy is legal, and the curious practice of the international community known as "LGBT" is protected and encouraged. However, Royal Ministerial officials insist that this will not corrupt Sombreland, as none of these practices will be considered welcome in Sombreland.

Eulabian Parliament proposed constitutional changes
allowing Mosley to stay in power until 2035

The Eulabian parliament has proposed constitutional reforms that will allow the incumbent president, Oswald Mosley (56), to run for president in the next elections.

The Eulabian constitution amendments were proposed at a legislative meeting on Friday. Changes to the constitution would include, for example, mentioning God, marriage between only one man and one woman, providing a minimum wage above the living minimum, and expanding the powers of the constitutional court.

The turning point came when the Speaker of Parliament, Jeanne Krupp, suggested that the presidential term limit be reset based on these amendments, de facto allowing incumbent President Mosley to participate in this year's presidential elections. Mosley would be allowed to stay in power until 2035.

President Mosley was wary about the amendments, stating that term limits and the assurance of power transition are "essential for the country's development". He also stated that the Constitutional Court and a nationwide referendum must approve the constitutional changes.

The opposition sees the constitutional changes as a bluff initiated by the government to keep Mosley in power. The opposition plans to protest against the changes.

Mosley has been acting president of Eulabia since 2010 and was officially inaugurated on 1 January 2012. His second 6-year term will end on 31 December 2023. He avoided answering when asked if he would run for president a third time if the amendments reset his term limit.
