Approval for re-legislation of Child Labour law

Postby Pahanoka » Thu Feb 04, 2021 3:00 am

Dear All WA Delegates,

Resolution number 4 of the WA pertaining to the child labour laws and the protections it affords them, is a most perfidious piece of legislation, and must absolutely be stopped. Hence I have proposed to repeal the resolution, to open the path to new, much better legislation. It is your duty as the delegates of your respective regions to vote in their best interests. Even if you wanted to have child labour, you should still approve this repeal; then you can push through far more friendly legislation. I know that you will do your utmost.

Just letting you know this proposal is illegal because you are legislating in a repeal.

Repeal: “Restrictions on Child Labor”

Category: Repeal
Resolution: GA#4
Proposed by: Pahanoka

General Assembly Resolution #4 “Restrictions on Child Labor” (Category: Civil Rights; Strength: Strong) shall be struck out and rendered null and void.

General Assembly Resolution #4 "Restrictions on Child Labor" (Category: Civil Rights; Strength: Strong) shall be struck out and rendered null and void.

The General Assembly,

Agreeing with the noble sentiments herein expressed; namely that the exploitation of children is wrong and that they should not be forced into any situation that could lead to their well being, being jeopardised in the future.

Thinking that this resolution allows nevertheless for certain despotic governments to get away with child labour through the many loopholes contained within.

Noting that the list of restrictions are incomplete, or in some cases clearly wrong

Proposing that this resolution be struck off with new wording, and new restrictions, which are far more comprehensive, with a full list below

Concerned at Clause 6, wherein the definition of a minor is contained; the legal age of majority can be altered by any despotic governor, thereby allowing all the protections afforded below void. This in turn meaning that this resolution is essentially meaningless, and that children are at far greater risk as a result of the safety from prosecution for those same governors that this resolution affords

Believing further that adults should enjoy very similar freedoms as children; it is inconsistent to treat them drastically differently when they are in essence the same, and that therefore this resolution be expanded to include all, with some express further safeguards for children (accepting that they do not have the same power to protect themselves as adults and should enjoy such safeguards)

Suggesting a new set values:
A) Defines a minor as being below the age of majority - with the age of majority to be proposed by vote, common to all nations

B) Bans the employment of all in:
(1) Work in which they are subject to physical abuse or assault
(2) Work in which they are forced to work in hazardous locations
(3) Exploitative work, or work that is exploitative in nature

C) Safeguards minors from:
(1) Work precluding education
(2) Unfair wages - to be defined by their unions
(3) Work forcing them to be involved in dangerous activity, or activity which could be hazardous to their health

Recognising that this cannot be a comprehensive list and more comprehensive legislation is required

Hereby repeals General Assembly Resolution #4 "Restrictions on Child Labor"

OOC: Also, he did actually write the repeal clause in the proposal, that's why it looks like a copy error repeating.

Author, a repeal can only repeal. You need to give justifications for the repeal and they need to address the deficiencies of the target resolution.

You should also read the workplace safety resolution as it seems you weren't aware of its existence, and setting a universal age limit on "minor" would contradict another resolution that makes it a purely national matter. And lastly the child abuse ban and promotion of basic education resolutions as well. Then think whether the faults you concieve there to be actually are there or if later resolutions have made your concerns obsolete.

Apologies for absences, non-COVID health issues leave me with very little energy at times.
