Land of Hope and Glory, a UK-based Political RP (IC)

Welcome to Land of Hope and Glory, a British political RP which enables players to explore and immerse themselves into the complicacies of the centuries old political system of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, from the bellicose exchanges within the House of Commons to the reserved scrutiny of the House of Lords and from the quiet conscientious deliverance of constituency work to the sardonic tenor of a divided political discourse.

Narrowly surviving a confidence vote in December 2018, Prime Minister Diana Naismith resigned to make way for a new Conservative leader, and thus a new Prime Minister. Her legacy, no matter how positive she tried to be, will forever be marked by her impotence in office.

In July, her successor was chosen, bombastic, confident and hardline brexiteer backbench MP Brian Hansen, an ex-London Mayor and former foreign secretary who resigned over Naismith's brexit deal. Hansen pushed for either a 'good deal or no deal' and said he would walk away from talks if the EU did not agree to renegotiate.

As the October 31st deadline for a deal approached and Parliament prepared to extend EU membership until January 30th, a desperate Hansen had parliament prorogued in September, sparking fury from remainers who launched a supreme court case and won. A new Parliament voted for an extension, which the Prime Minister promptly refused to sign. However, in order to avoid being found in contempt of Parliament, the PM sent an unsigned letter to the EU asking for an extension accompanied by a signed letter urging EU negotiators not to accept.

However, to Hansen's dismay, they did. This resulted in Hansen taking advantage of his lead in the polls and asking Parliament to call a general election. After a serious slew of umming and ahing, the Labour Party agreed to one. However, during the election campaign, Hansen managed to renegotiate the terms of the EU deal, splitting the UK's internal market to allow Northern Ireland to remain in the single market and still leaving the opportunity for no deal at the end of December 2020 after an 11 month transition period. However, despite the deal's pitfalls, the election was catastrophic for the opposition, as the Government won an 80-seat majority and the Labour Party suffered its worst loss since 1935.

The labour leadership resigned - and now Prime Minister Brian Hansen has a mandate to implement his agenda. Whether a trade deal can be negotiated with the EU is yet to be seen. And for Labour - a leadership election contest has begun to see who can recover the party from this historic defeat.

Play as a Minister, MP, Lord or any other such politically inclined individual. Or perhaps, you are more predisposed towards standing for election? From Councillor to the Premiership, you have the opportunity to shape the United Kingdom and it's political landscape, and potentially ensure that history remembers you.

All characters within this RP are original and all political figures after Margaret Thatcher's resignation in 1990 have been replaced by ersatz politicians. However, all historical events, statistics and issues up until the RP's beginning remain the same.

Charles Henderson looked at the camera and smiled. He had found YouTube videos a most effective way of communicating his message. He would upload on the official channel of the Brexit Party short videos with his message and it would be shared by Twitter, Facebook and Instagram accounts, allowing Charles to bypass mainstream media and reach out a wider, and usually younger, audience than he would otherwise.

"Our country faces a severe crisis - and no, I am not talking about Brexit. Unfortunately, aside from our elites trying to thwart for years the democratic vote of the British people, we also face a knife crime epidemic that those very same elites are unable to face. Statistics show 44,700 offences in England and Wales. Yet what is being done by our establishment? Absolutely nothing? Oh, actually that would have been better than what they are doing now, which is trying to find new ways to further disarm the British people. Instead of allowing people in England and Wales to arm themselves so that they can defend themselves and their families from violent thugs, our establishment wants them to become even more defenseless. You know what stops violent thugs with knifes? Good people with guns!"

"You also know what stops violent thugs? Not bringing them here in the first place. It is common knowledge that most of those violent thugs are foreign-born migrants that have been imported into our country by globalist, open border politicians; including so-called Conservative politicians who only work towards conserving their paycheck. Yet we aren't supposed to be talking about it, because it is... 'racist'. Excuse me, but I would say stopping violent crime is more important than being politically correct!"

"Our country needs immigrants. We need people with skills and a commitment to hard work to come here and enrich our communities. But we also need standards and border control. Only high-skilled, educated people should be allowed to immigrate to our country. Low-skilled, uneducated people - especially from countries that have a culture of violence or religious terrorism - shouldn't be allowed to come here en mass. We need to take back control of our borders and stop bringing in violent thugs. The only party that dares talk truth to power and dares to call for border control is the Brexit Party!"

London

Prime Minister Hansen was getting ready for the New Year’s Day cabinet meeting but first decided to meet with Millington first together ready for the year ahead. He called her to his office a short bit before the cabinet meeting.

10 Downing Street, London

The First Secretary of State had arrived at Downing Street a few minutes ahead of schedule for the meeting with the Prime Minister. The New Year was likely to bring with it large challenges surrounding the negotiations of the transition period with the EU that we’re due to begin in a mere month or so. Thus, Victoria Millington arrived in the Prime Minister’s office and entered.

“Good morning, Prime Minister.” Millington opened, extending her hand out for Hansen to shake.

@BrianHansen, people would have a better year if you actually did something about the crime epidemic. Maybe a little less talking, and a lot more putting an end to mass immigration? #BorderControl

Brexit Party - Official Website

Our Policy Manifesto is balanced, fiscally conservative and patriotic. Unlike other parties, the Brexit Party is a party of ideas and policy-making rather than empty sloganeering. The Manifesto is available on this website for everyone to see.

Brexit Party Policy Manifesto

Preamble

The Brexit Party aims to represent the British people of all social classes who want our country to be liberated from the shackles of the European Union and who believe in the right to life, liberty, property, equality before the law and the pursuit of happiness. We aim to liberate the productive energies of the British people and to build up an economy that works for everyone. We aim to make Britain safe, prosperous and independent once more.

Brexit

The Brexit Party supports a clear, total break from the EU superstate. No Irish backstop, no customs union. Britain must become once again a free nation. There can be no compromise on this point.

Taxation

The Brexit Party supports broad tax cuts that will stimulate the economy, increase the growth rate and leave more money to the pockets of the average person:

1. Raise in the tax-free Personal Allowance from £12,500 to £14,000.
2. Drastic cuts in income tax:
A. Basic rate (£14,000 to £50,000) from 20% to 15%.
B. Higher rate (£50,001 to £150,000) from 40% to 37%.
C. Additional rate from 45% to 42%.
3. Increase in the NICs threshold to £9,500.
4. Scrapping of VAT on domestic fuel.
5. Abolition of inheritance tax.
6. Scrapping of television license fee.
7. Increase of Employment Allowance for small businesses from £3,000 to £4,000.
8. Waive of corporation tax on the first £10,000 of profits.
9. Cut in corporate taxation from 19% to 16%.
10. Cut in corporate taxation ranging from 1 to 4%, in accordance to the number of native British citizens hired that year.

The Brexit Party also supports a series of measures to make our tax system fairer:

1. Doubling the maximum prison term to 14 years for individuals convicted of the most egregious examples of tax fraud.
2. Creation of a single Anti-Tax Evasion unit in HMRC that covers all duties and taxes, from individual errors to deliberate noncompliance.

Support for Start-Ups, Corporations and Businesses

The Brexit Party supports a series of measures to support British start-ups and corporations:

1. Increase of the R&D tax credit rate to 17%.
2. Support of start-ups and small businesses via government procurement.
3. Expansion of start-up loans.
4. Exemption of small businesses from taxation for their first year of existence.
5. Slash of costly regulations, thus reducing red tape and paperwork.
6. Change of planning to help house building (by simplifying planning consents and introducing more flexibility on the size and type of units as part of a development).

Administrative Reform

The Brexit Party believes that steps can be taken to modernize British state and make it more efficient and friendly to citizens:

1. Slashing of paperwork and administration required by Government departments and agencies, by elimination of useless regulations and procedures.
2. Overhaul of the existing public appointments process, towards a more professionalised approach with effective involvement and ownership by ministers and special advisers from the outset.
3. Restoration of extended ministerial offices.
4. Institution of a 'Censorate', a team of 20 high calibre individuals reporting directly to the Prime Minister, who will have an explicit mandate to challenge received wisdom and critically examine new policy proposals.
5. Establishment of 'Annual Evaluation Reports' for all civil servants, tying wage to performance (pay rise for overperformance and pay cut for underperformance). The Annual Evaluation Report shall take into note reports by managers, coworkers, citizens and technocratic inspectors.
6. Establishment of an 'Anti-Corruption Investigative Body', made up of technocrats and financial agents. It shall ensure that the public sector remains free of corruption.
7. Establishment of an 'Office of Critique'. An online service, it shall take into account critique and complaints by citizens and publicize every three months a report based on those comments while offering possible solutions.

Institutional Reform

The Brexit Party supports a series of institutional reforms that will further democratize British politics:

1. Replacement of the current electoral system with a proportional one.
2. Abolition of the House of Lords.
3. Reform of the Supreme Court: we shall ensure political balance by broadening participation in the Selection Commission and conducting interviews by Parliamentary Committee.
4. Introduction of Citizens’ Initiatives to allow people to call referendums, subject to a 5 million threshold of registered voter signatures and time limitations on repeat votes.
5. MPs who switch parties will be subject to recall petitions.
6. Reform of the postal voting system to combat fraud.

Spending

The Brexit Party supports cuts in government waste and better reallocation of already existing government resources:

1. A 'Spending Review Board' shall be established. It shall examine all government departments for waste and implement targeted departmental savings.
2. Cuts of £15bn in government waste, that is spending not related to health, crime or regional inequality.
3. Saving of £13bn from annual EU contribution after Brexit.
4. Slash of foreign aid budget (£13bn).
5. People making the UK their home will pay into the tax system for a reasonable period of time before they can access welfare.

The Brexit Party supports a series of targeted spending increases meant to boost the economy and address social inequalities:

1. Establishment of a network of local, public investment banks in Northern England to provide £150bn of lending over a period of 10 years.
2. £70bn investment in local infrastructure in Northern England.
3. Completion of the full HS2 route to Scotland and the Northern Powerhouse Rail.
4. £2.5bn investment in our Fishing and Coastal Communities: with Brexit we recover control of a 200 mile exclusive economic zone.
5. Investment of £20 billion a year into the NHS.
6. £2bn investment into providing free broadband in deprived regions.
7. Increase of welfare spending for veterans by £500 million.
8. Roll-out of universal credit.
9. Funding for city regions to upgrade their bus, tram and train services.

Internet and Technology

The Brexit Party is a strong supporter of the continued digitization of Britain and of updates in our cyber infrastructure:

1. We shall undertake an ambitious program of updating our cyber infrastructure to 5G.
2. £2bn investment into providing free broadband in deprived regions.
3. We shall establish data as a property right. This will give individuals more control over their data and enable them to make money when companies use it to power their products and services.

Social Security and Retirees

The Brexit Party vows to do more for retirees:

1. Retention of the triple lock on the state pension.
2. Establishment of an independent pensions commission, modelled on the Low Pay Commission, to recommend target levels for workplace pensions.
3. Abandonment of plans to raise the state pension age, leaving it at 66.
4. Introduction of a 'Care at Home' program, whereby the state will pay for pharmacies to deliver vital medicine at home for retirees with health problems.

Educational Reform

The Brexit Party wants to implement a series of measures to enhance the quality of our educational system and to help young people:

1. Institution of 'School Evaluation Reports' for public schools, with pay bonus for teachers of schools that perform well and pay cuts for teachers of schools that perform badly.
2. Abolition of interest for student loans.
3. Improvement of the Apprenticeship Levy.
4. Ban of unpaid internships unless they are part of an education or training course.

Healthcare

The Brexit Party supports the strengthening of the NHS and the implementation of a series of reforms to increase the quality of healthcare services in Britain:

1. Investment of £20 billion a year into the NHS: at least 1/3 of the investment will go towards targeted hiring of medical personnel, including mental health experts.
2. Hiring of at least one mental health counselor for every public school.
3. Cooperation between the Government and the private sector for the provision of certain healthcare services: the state will pay for the private sector to provide certain services to citizens instead of providing them directly, in cases when doing so would be beneficial to the taxpayers.
4. Slashing of NHS red tape to give staff more time to care for patients.
5. Use of new digital techniques in GP surgeries that have saved more than 200,000 hours of clinical time and 300,000 hours of admin time in a single year across 2,700 practices in England.
5. Abolition of all politically imposed hospital targets that distort clinical priorities.

Workers' Rights

The Brexit Party is a strong supporter of workers' rights:

1. Institution of a 'Workers' Rights Inspectors' team to crack down on any employer abusing employment law, whether by taking workers’ tips or refusing them sick pay.
2. Employers will by law have to notify properly their employees for changes in working hours.
3. Ban of unpaid internships unless they are part of an education or training course.
4. Simplification of the law around trade union recognition, ending the current complexity and cutting red tape.
5. Minimum wage shall be tied to GDP growth – each year, it will be increased by half the rate of GDP growth (2% GDP growth will thus translate to 1% increase in the minimum wage).

Immigration

1. The Brexit Party stands opposed to mass immigration but is supportive of managed immigration, as many immigrants contribute positively to the British economy and society. We shall replace the current chaotic immigration system with a points-based, Australian-style immigration system.
2. Reform of the cabinet structure by taking responsibility for Britain’s borders and immigration system from the Home Office and placing in a standalone department.
3. Construction of floating barriers across the English Channel in designated locations to stop migrant boats from the mainland from arriving to our shores.
4. Increased resources for our Coast Guard to defend our sea borders, with use of pushbacks if necessary.
5. Transportation of illegal immigrants and asylum seekers to closed, detention centers on St Helena and Ascension Island, where they are to remained jailed until deportation.

National Security and Law Enforcement

The Brexit Party supports the maintenance of a strong military force to defend our national sovereignty and measures to curb crime and enforce law and order across the country:

1. Increase of military spending by 1% of the GDP.
2. Hiring of 30,000 additional police officers in England and Wales.
3. Creation of new Motorized High-Speed Units.
4. Increase of police salaries by 5%.
5. Update of police equipment.
6. Liberalization of gun laws to allow citizens without criminal records and with mental health certification to posses firearms for self-defense.
7. Introduction of harsher sentences for violent criminals, including life sentence without parole for criminals convicted for Islamic terrorism.
8. Introduction of a program of job training for first-time young (up to 30 years of age) offenders on lite sentences, to ensure a proper integration in society after release.
9. Cracking down of both the knife epidemic in London and of illegal migration: increased police resources allocated towards achieving this.
10. Institution of a travel ban from countries that have high risk of terrorism, such as Iraq.

Free Trade

We shall make Britain Europe's Singapore. We shall pursue free trade agreements, under WTO terms, with the United States, Canada, Australia and other countries of the Anglosphere while increasing economic and trade ties with former colonies, such as India. Free trade and slashing of tariffs shall create many new jobs and enrich Britain.

In a few short weeks we will be leaving the EU, against the wishes of the people of Scotland.

The Scottish Government will do everything in its power to protect people and businesses from this self-inflicted economic disaster, to hold the elitist Westminster government to account and to make Scotland the compassionate, international, forward looking country we know it can be.

Absolutely appalling to see @CharlesHenderon calling for a US style lack of gun controls. We will never forget the 17 innocent people murdered at Dunblane Primary School, nor the many victims of mass shootings in the USA.

This shows the true colours of the people pulling the strings of this elitist Tory government.

The only thing appalling, is that @AmandaFerguson keeps demanding another referendum despite the fact that the Scottish people backed the Union in the last one. It seems leftists love to reject referendums whose outcome they dislike, don't they?

Charles Henderson's comments on gun control are bizzare and ridiculous. We have seen across the Atlantic the havoc that can be unveiled when gun laws are not tough enough, such as when 20 children and 6 teachers were murdered at Sandy Hook Elementary School in 2012.

It is a no brainer that we shouldn't be importing such dangerous sensibilities towards firearms safety.

As we enter a new year, the Labour Party must rethink and rebuild from our election defeat in 2019. We must change or we will no longer provide an effective opposition to the tories.

As the new year rolled around, David Richardson was preparing for a leadership bid, but needed to gather the necessary support from various different party colleagues. He would first email Barbara Stellar, asking her for a meeting at his office in London.

He greeted her as he shook her hand. “Ah, Madame Secretary it is good to see you on this fine morning. I take it you enjoyed the New Years? The highlight of my year so far is certainly Mr. Henderson making an arse out of himself already.”

“That I certainly have, Prime Minister. Particularly now that we will be leaving the European Union at the end of the month although I do have to admit that Mr Henderson’s remarks are certainly entertaining.” Victoria said, giving a wry smile as she spoke.

Charles Henderson uploaded once again a video on the Brexit Party YouTube Channel, this time on the economy. He hoped that this video would turn the attention to his, far more mainstream, economic positions.

"We need to get Brexit done. It is a necessary precondition for a general restructuring of the British state and economy. But Brexit alone is not enough. Brexit liberates our country from the EU superstate, but it would have been all for naught if we do not use this chance to demolish the nanny state created by Labour and so-called Conservative politicians. We've reached a point where hard work is punished and laziness rewarded. Our overlords are taxing us at sky-high levels to pay for overbloated government agencies and useless bureaucrats. We will never become a European Singapore that way."

"In order to attract foreign corporations and allow our own people to consume more and open up new businesses, we need massive tax cuts! We need to ensure that those who work hard get to keep their hard-earned money and that our country is competitive in our globalized economy. Conservatives certainly talk right, but they do not move quickly or decisively enough on implementing necessary tax cuts. The Brexit Party from day one would cut the income tax for everyone in this country. We would also abolish inheritance tax and cut substantially corporate taxation."

"Aside from tax cuts, however, we also need to slash red tape and useless regulations, in order to unleash the power and ingenuity of British entrepreneurship. How many hours and money does red tape cost? Way too much! Do you think we can compete with India, China and other emerging economies without a business-friendly economic environment? Unfortunately, the current Conservative government is all talk but does nothing in practice. Because they've embraced statism and big government."

"A Brexit Party government would follow a radical, libertarian program of abolishing red tape and putting an end to nanny-state regulations. The answer to our problems is not more government, but less government. Liberated from those bureaucratic shackles, post-Brexit Britain can become a hub of innovation, entrepreneurship and start-ups. We need a lot less Karl Marx, and a lot more Milton Friedman!"

Singapore hangs people for cannabis use, has laws that oppress the LGBT community, and still use judicial caning. I for one do not think they are a good example to follow.

@WarringtonNorthMP, Singaporeans enjoy the second highest GDP per capita in the world, one of the world's longest life expectancies, fastest Internet connection speeds and one of the lowest infant mortality rates in the world. Singapore is one of the least corrupt countries in the world. A far better example than the communist failed states Labour wants us to emulate.

@CharlesHenderson So the Brexit Party supports judicial caning, the death penalty for drug trafficking, and criminalising homosexual relations? Yes or no?

@WarringtonNorthMP, no we do not. We actually have a detailed policy platform on our website, which you can check out to see what our proposals are. We want to emulate Singapore's meritocratic governance and economic success, not all aspects of their state. And Singapore is a far better place to live than socialist Venezuela, Cuba or North Korea.

As we enter into a new year and a new decade, Great Britain is about to enter a new era in her long and beautiful history. Soon we will be leaving the EU for good, and once that's finally done, it's time to get to work!

I made my promise during last year's campaign that I would do everything within my power to ensure that Windsor would remain a prosperous constituency in a post-Brexit Britain, and that shall be my priority this year.

After we get Brexit done, let's get to work on strengthening our NHS, investing in our schools and communities, and making our streets safer!

As the new year rolled around, David Richardson was preparing for a leadership bid, but needed to gather the necessary support from various different party colleagues. He would first email Barbara Stellar, asking her for a meeting at his office in London.

From: The Hon. David Richardson MP
To: The Hon. Barbara Stellar MP

Could you meet me at my office in London? There is an important matter that needs to be discussed.

Yours faithfuly,
The Rt. Hon David Richardson MP

Stellar's staff picked up on the email sent through. Their office could tell that this could be surrounding either the upcoming Brexit debacle, or the Labour leadership election - or both at the same time. Chesterfield MP, Barbara Stellar, agreed to attend.

She arrived at David Richardson's door, knocking and being let in by his Secretary. "Good to see you," she commented, moving over to give him a light hug.
