Luke Wheeler marries Magdalena von Majevski (IC)

Postby Hopal » Sun Jan 03, 2021 3:20 pm

Retiring Corporal Luke Wheeler, interim member of the Joint Military Command, and soon to be Training Officer of the Hopalian Military is marrying Magdalena von Majevski the Deputy Marketing Consultant to Project Contracts at Majevski Aero AG, and the daughter of Sören von Majevski the CEO of Majevski Aero AG. The wedding ceremony will take place at the Supreme Court Building of Hopal with a reception and banquet taking place before and after the wedding ceremony. The wedding will cement an alliance between Dalmannia and Hopal established during the Ohkhoskalite Civil War, with dignitaries from both countries and abroad attending.

The Eisenhower Street Banquet Hall is all prepared for the wedding reception and subsequent banquet, the hall is adorned with decorations and brightly lit. The groom's aunt sits at the reception desk waiting for guests to arrive, while his cousins run throughout the hall, they are stopped by their uncle however who told them to be on their best behaviour, as important people would be coming. Many Hopalian guests were already there, and while a lot of the top military officials were in Ohkhos, the outgoing Chief of Staff of the Joint Military Command Admiral John Pollin was in attendance, as well as Major June Harvath, seen as the leading contender to replace Wheeler as a representative from the army to the Joint Military Command, there too was Chief Justice of the Supreme Court Harrison Reid who would be administering the ceremony. Luke Wheeler however was frantically walking around the banquet hall, waiting for his soon to be wife to arrive.

In the early morning, the Majevski family arrives in Hopal when a company jet touches down in the airport. A few hours later, a government jet from the Department of Foreign Affairs would arrive with the Dalmannian ambassador to Hopal Conrad Schäfer.

Magdalena felt elated as she stepped down from the jet onto the tarmac to follow the family chauffeur who was leading the way. She knew that this day would not only mark a very personal change in her life, but her marriage would be symbolic of tighter alliances between just nations and the recent peace that had been achieved. The importance of what was about to happen to her was simultaneously exhilarating and rather daunting. She stepped into the Cadillac limousine her father had hired, and watched out the window as the car drove to where she would get dressed and prepared for the ceremony. A separate car would drive the rest of the family to the Eisenhower Banquet Hall to be formally received.

Sania Russo quietly gazed on the clouds outside, whizzing past her private jet. She would never admit it to anyone, but she was still adapting in her new job, and the more formal aspects of it had never been her main interest. The Grand Vizier, as Sania envisioned it, was supposed to be in their own country, working for the people, administering justice, establishing peace, and furthering the economy. And things like that. It was part of the job that the working-class girl from outside the City enjoyed. Attending weddings and banquets, especially ones expected to be studded with folks from the higher echelons of society, were bound to leave her with a feeling of unease.

The Prince was supposed to attend the wedding. He was much more used to glamorous occasions such as this one. And it was, after all, in line with the delineation of the tasks of the Prince and the Grand Vizier, which the two of them had long been negotiating as part of the democratization process ongoing since the end of the Dark Time, the armed struggle which elevated Prince Samir to the throne. Though some details were still up in the air, the bigger picture was clear: The Prince, although he retained overarching veto powers and significant influence over domestic policy, was to focus on foreign relations and representing the country before the other nations of the multiverse. The Grand Vizier, as an official elected by the people, would focus on matters closer to home. In other words, domestic matters.

But the Prince had other work to attend to, and - as much as he might have clashed and argued with his vizier over policy details - he trusted the young woman to represent Faraby at this wedding. She worried that she did not possess the requisite elegance or knowledge of etiquette required for such an occasion; he insisted that, as the face of a new, more democratic Faraby, she was the perfect person for the occasion, a symbol of Faraby reaching out to nations previously unknown, people previously unheard of, whereas he himself - regardless of his reputation as the "modern prince" - was inextricably tied to the old establishment. And so, with not a little bit of reluctance, Sania Russo flew to the country of Hopal.

She had had her secretary brief her on Hopal and everything that might be of interest regarding the country and the wedding. Now, several thousand meters above the ground, they sat down and went over the briefings again. The groom was Corporal, soon-to-be Training Officer, Luke Wheeler. He was also interim member of the Joint Military Command. His lucky girl was Magdalena von Majevski, daughter of Sören von Majevski, CEO of Majevski Aero AG. She was Deputy Marketing Consultant to Project Contracts at the same company. Family company, it seemed. All these names still meant nothing to her, but it was the country's interest to establish relations with as many other nations as possible, and Hopal looked to be a nice country.

A sigh went out of her dried lips, and she again turned her eyes to the great blue sky. "Beautiful," she whispered at the window. "It's so beautiful."

And she felt the plane slowly going down, beneath and through the clouds. "We're almost there," said her secretary, smiling.

Luke Wheeler is walking around the banquet hall when his older sister Amanda catches up to him. "Finally getting a wife, are you?" she teased. "She's the right one" he quietly replied. Luke had always been the adventurous one in the family, he was always seeking adventure and danger. He was always one to take risks and didn't want to settle for a normal life. Which is why he enlisted into the army, and not just that he would always volunteer for the sometimes dangerous security missions. His first planned mission was an intelligence mission for another country. His sister on the other hand lived the typical middle class life becoming a school teacher and eventually a publisher. She married a school administrator at the age of 28, at the same age her little brother was practicing guerilla war fare and fighting through jungles. He never thought he would get married, he always thought he would live life on the edge. "I think it's time that I settle down, I've got a new job, and it's something that I want to do, and I have a right woman to join my life." Luke said. "Well you join the rest of us, in normal life." his sister said. Her husband Scott walked over.

Cori Happleson shifted in his seat brushing his hands over his suit as the banquet hall came into view.

As the car slowed too a stopd he gently picked up the pastel, paper, gift bag sitting next too him, containing a card from President Alice Doma herself, as well as a delicate glass cup with an image of Luke Wheeler and Magdalena von Majewski holding hands etched into it.

With his other hand he opened the car door and stepped out into the day, thanking the driving before closing the door.

Cori approached the banquet hall entrance and entered into the brightly lit reception area, nodding and issuing greetings too the other guests as he made his way up to the reception desk.

The landing was quiet and uneventful, and as the Grand Vizier, her secretary, and her three guards stepped out of the plane, they found themselves greeted by several folks standing on the tarmac - who they assume to be a Hopalian delegation - and a limousine to take them to the banquet hall. The limousine was large enough to contain the five of them. They cruised away from the airport towards the Eisenhower Banquet Hall or wherever the reception was taking place. Two of the guards were carrying a little box in their pocket, each box containing a brooch, taken from the Princely Collection, as a gift for the bride and groom. Another guard was holding a slightly larger box in his hands, this one containing a silver pocket watch.

As the limo meandered down the streets towards Eisenhower Banquet Hall, Sania Russo took in the view. This was a beautiful country, indeed. If I ever have time for a vacation, I should maybe come back here. The journey was a quiet one; a few words were said between the Grand Vizier and her secretary regarding the scenery, but no more than that. The guards sat firm, backs straight, looking serene and grim if one could indeed appear to be both at the same time. Sometimes it is better to simply enjoy a moment without saying too much.

After what seemed to be a quick few minutes, the limo softly came to a halt outside Eisenhower Banquet Hall. The driver stepped out and started towards the middle door. As his hand reached for the handle, however, the door slowly swung forward. Sania Russo serenely set her feet down on Hopalian earth. She took her hand off the inside handle and shook the driver's hand. "Thank you," she said, smiling, then turned towards her secretary, still inside the limo, and told her that she would be driven to the hotel. The back door opened and the Grand Vizier's guards emerged in a single file.

Sania made her way towards the banquet hall, the guards closely following her. She could see the guests beginning to congregate beneath the bright lights of the hall. As they entered the hall and approached the reception desk, one of the guards stepped beside her. "Ma'am," he bellowed, "I present to you Her Excellency the Grand Vizier of the Principality of Faraby, Sania Russo."

Magdalena stepped out of the dressing room to stand in front of a large mirror. She still couldn’t shake the fact that today would be the happiest day of her life, a day she had been dreaming of ever since she had first laid eyes on her Hopalian fiancé.
"Magdalena, you look beautiful! Spin around, please!", Anna von Petrovna-Majevski said.
Magdalena winked at her mother's reflection in the mirror and turned around a few times, laughing when the skirt flowed out with the momentum and she started to get dizzy. "Now, now! Don’t fall over!" her mother said, steadying her daughter as her laughter began to subside. "But you do look gorgeous, Magdalena, I'm so very happy for you."
"Thank you, Mutti, I'm really happy, too," the dizzy bride said, blushing as she turned back to the mirror.

She admired the lace detailing on the dress, and its color: mostly white but with some subtle hints of a very light shade of blue. Flowers of black and white crowned her head atop the veil, adorned and tied with flowing ribbons of that classic Dalmannian blue.

Her sister entered the room. “Oh my, Magdalena you look like Aschenputtel about to go to the ball!”, Zofia teased. “All I need is a pair of glass slippers”, Magdalena quipped back. “Well, you aren’t too far from that either, my darling daughter”, Anna von Petrovna-Majevski said, pointing to the elegant heels which stood at attention in the corner, gleaming with majesty. Magdalena picked one up and inspected it. “Hmm... it’s only silver”, she said with mock scrutiny. “But, they might as well be glass. They’ll work just fine!”, she beamed with her warm and joyful smile that so often spread contagious laughter.

The Barrett Edelmann Band arrives at the Eisenhower Street Banquet Hall, and begin to load their instruments into a staging area for their performances that night after the wedding. The jazz singer—Severija Sorokina—begins to socialize with some of the Hopalian guests. She notices the Grand Vizier of Faraby from across the banquet hall when she arrives, and makes a mental note to talk to Miss Russo later. While Miss Sorokina was quite familiar with the royalty and government of Dalmannia and her protectorates, it wasn’t every day she got to entertain such an international audience of dignitaries. Three other members of the band were a little more bold. The two guitarists—Sigmund Barrett and Floyd Edelmann—and the bassist—Rosa Wasserstein, approached the Grand Vizier to introduce themselves after the Hopalian officials.

“Yes, we’re members of the band. Ambassador Conrad Schäfer arrived at the entrance of the reception Banquet Hall, extending some polite greetings as he approached the desk of Luke Wheeler’s aunt. “Hello, I’m Mr. Schäfer of Dalmannia, ambassador to Hopal. How do you do?”

Meanwhile...
Magdalena was finally fitted with the entirety of her dress—with the exception of the veil which was to be exclusively worn for the ceremony. She couldn’t stop smiling as she looked in the mirror, and looked down at her phone to text her father to let the band and the organizers know that she would be on her way to the banquet hall to enjoy a little bit of the pre-ceremony celebration with her family and with Luke before she was to take this big step. With the text sent, she nodded to her mother and sister, and they left to go to the car.

The Durrnilian Elite President Mænsk Hænt walked up to the banquet hall. As he was walking, he spotted Luke Wheeler at the opposite end of the hall, receiving greetings from the other wedding participants. Mænsk Hænt shook Wheeler's warm hand. "Greetings", the Elite President said. "You too", Luke Wheeler replied.

At that moment, the father of the bride arrived: Sören von Majevski. The prominent businessman politely introduced himself to Steph, and then entered the banquet hall to acquaint himself with John Pollin, June Harvath and of course, his soon to be son-in-law Luke Wheeler.

Luke Wheeler upon seeing that his soon to be father-in-law had arrived immediately walked over to him, he warmly remarked "Mr. von Majevski, how great it is to meet you again. How are you?"
