Personality: Old, stern, and sometimes cranky, it's much easier to accept that Wilhard Strauch sprang fully formed off a face of a mountain than the fact that he used to be a small child of a woodsman. Although he was brooding and conscientious when young, Strauch grew out of his isolationism by an inch as the decades wore on as he talked, fought, and executed hundreds of people throughout his life.

Although very much devout thanks to the ruthless indoctrination of the Church, his zealotry has mellowed out as his career forced him to wander the earth and meeting people of different backgrounds. Despite the impression of an overzealous, fire-obsessed witch hunter, Strauch is slightly more open-minded compared to his coworkers. Keyword “slightly” since he will still carry out his duties with extreme prejudice.

Bio In the days before the Apocatstasis, Wilhard Strauch was born in a small impoverished village still stuck under feudalism. The environment was gripped by superstition and paganism as the people lived under constant fear for unknown nightly terrors. Strauch, from a babe to a young lad, never really left the walls of his humble hut besides helping his father gather wood. He always hated the nights without the moon.

Of course, the world did not stay idle, and sooner enough, the Inquisition descended on his small village looking for both recruits and witches to burn. They inevitably found both after a week of investigation. While an old crone was being burned at the stake, the young Wilhard Strauch caught the attention of the Witch Hunter Captain leading the hunt. Most reluctantly, his parents finally agreed to let him join the Church in the pious quest to restore the light in the world. Following the party, the sight of his lonely village would be the last thing he ever saw before he begins his witch-hunter training.

As Fate would have it, the Inquisition branch that he was conscripted into was one of the last sects of hotheaded radicals that view all magic as an antithesis of God and all other foreign dieties are pagan gods. The training was Spartan and with no one to confine in, Strauch became awfully bitter and sought refugee in the nearby abbey for solace. Still, he did not give up and channeled all of his misery and anger into his training. Although he came out with his frustration tempered and controlled, Strauch was no less grumpy and averse to his mentors.

Now a sanction Witch Hunter, Strauch was fully free to carry the Lord’s will and purge the cities and countryside of heresy and heathens. Armed only with his faith and Kriegsmesser and protected by his armor and scripture, Wilhard Strauch left the sanctuary of the Church and into the wilderness. Days turn into weeks, weeks into months, months into years, and years into decades, and all the while, Strauch brought the Lord’s light into the deepest caverns and pits to burn out the heretics and witches that continue their dark arts. His ceaseless diligence earned him his promotion to Captain once he turned 50.

But the world was changing and Strauch found himself to be the last of his kind. Apocatstasis has arrived and he watched as years of indoctrination unravel before his very eyes as magic was slowly being reintegrated back into society. The need for witch hunters and Inquisitors disappeared overnight and all his colleagues retired or sought different employment elsewhere. But change was fine to the veteran Witch Hunter: he never really liked his sect of the Inquisition anyway and he did find amusement in the new gunpowder technology. Ranged firepower was certainly useful.

Now Strauch found himself at a crossroads: he could retire and return to his wife or he could continue witch hunting in the Shadowlands. Having spent the last decade or two more hunting bandits and ruffians rather than actual witches and pagans, he made to choice to conclude his career with one final holy crusade to purge the dark arts from the world that remain in the Shadowlands. Hardened by his experience, Strauch soldiers on for there is no abyss too dark for the Lord’s light and no demon beyond Heaven’s wrath.

Bio: Born in a small fishing community, Lucius was born into a family of 4 brothers, 1 sister, and his 2 parents. His father was a fisherman, and his mother was a seamstress. The town was usually peaceful, with the most notable event being someone cutting their thumb with a fish knife. That is, until Lucius was 17. One night, randomly, some monster came into the village. Nobody knows what it was, nobody knows why it came. All people know is what happened when it came. It came into the Virrilin household, and killed everybody. Almost everybody, that is. Lucius, in the confusion, managed to reach his father's musket while the creature was distracted by eating his eldest brother. A musket round scared the creature of, but did not kill it. All of Lucius' family was dead, and he was permanently scarred physically by a passing hit from the creature, and mentally from the butchering of his family. Lucius left his village soon after, finding it no longer felt like a home. Taking the musket, he set himself to hunting creatures like the one that killed his family, seeking vengeance and seeking closure for his trauma. He has spent the last few years hunting bounties for monsters in various corners of the world, staying until the bounties are all done and then leaving for another region. Over the years he has acquired more gear and skill, such as learning how to trap, track, and hide his tracks, he purchased two flintlocks and was able to purchase the services of a leatherworker who was able to reinforce his coat. Lucius has been offered several positions within Monster Hunting guilds, but rejected all of them due to their emphasis on money rather than killing monsters. Eventually he exhausted his opportunity's to hunt as a private operator, with bigger Monster Hunter Guilds taking over in the more civilized regions. However the Guilds haven't yet gone out to the Shadowlands, so he figured he'd try his luck there

Been a while since I posted something in here so here is some lore piece. I will get around to making the Reaver lore bit in a different post.

Cultus Monstrum


The secretive cabal known to most as the Cultus Monstrum is infamous for the diabolic medical experimentation and their heretical research in changing humans into mutated variants that makes those changed by them no different to the monsters those mutants were made to hunt down. But before this cult of forbidden science was made many of these doctors and physicians were merely men and women of knowledge that wish to learn more about the human body and proper herbal and chemical remedies to help improve medical care so diseases and injuries that claim the lives of many will become a thing of the past.

These early scholars and magi of the medical arts would form a doctor's guild to collaborate and share in each other's works and research to better improve upon their works. In this environment many revolutionary medical discoveries were made that would help improve medical knowledge throughout Vesperia.

These doctors would soon however discover fungi and herbs that were enrich with magical properties that when injected would result in mutagenic changes in those that ingested them. These doctors studied the plants and some alchemist used these plants in alchemist concoctions that would be used to create new strains of crops and livestock for farmers. However some would create new plants who would be used for both medicinal and textiles. These ventures would result in the guild finding new sources of reveunane that would help fund their research and as a result they would scour the continent for more materials that they can use.

This change would cause members of the Eklissa to view the group with suspensions. While the group's efforts were doing good for the general public many felt that them tampering with life was tantment to heresy of the highest order as it tampered with their god's divine plan for all living things, that by altering a living creature one was attempting to play the role of a god.

Yet as the group's relationship with the Church began to deteriorate their relationship with the Academy and with many nobles across Vesperia grew. It was the magi and doctors of the proto-Cultus that would create the elixirs that would increase ones longevity and slow down aging that many powerful and wealthy nobles possible. It was also be their hands that a cocktails of poisons and their antidotes were also made. However it was one deal that would ultimately change the group forever and would give them their most infamous name.

A noble from the Robaiziche Commonwealth would come to the cult requesting for a way to deal with monsters that plague his land and many nobles throughout Vespiera would come to them with similar requests. The cult at first created many poisons and connotations that would drive away or even kill the monsters, but these were not enough. Not even the enchanted weapons and magical devices were enough as most people who used them were not proficient in their use. With this complicated problem came upon a radical solution.

If the issue was the humans fighting against the monsters, why not make the humans as powerful as the monsters?

With this in mind the cult would find several strong and able body hunters and begin trails to make them into superior hunters. However the first experiments were all a failure as many died from the changes, with those that survived being physically and mentally broken beyond repair. These failures would cause some to give up but a sect within took these experiments to a much darker direction. This sect would propose that the reasons for these failures was because the bodies of adults were done changing and would only begin to break down over time. They propose that if they were to use children instead they could have the bodies of the children adjust to the changes and become their superior monster hunters.

This plan would cause a schism within the cult as many debated on the ethics of such a plan. For many days the cult argued but as some left in sheer disgust at what was happening the majority that remained would ultimately go through with the plan. The cult found that getting children for their plan was easy, Vesperia was teeming with unwanted children. Many orphanages gladly gave away children at the promise of lucrative money and parents were easily swayed with lies that their children were being taken under their wings to be taught to be doctors and to live better lives, others simply has no where to go as they were abandoned by their parents or lost everything due to night raids by bandits or monsters.

These children were subjected to grueling physical and mental conditioning. Thier waking moment was monitored and controlled by the cult. When the day came from them to be altered most of the early subjects were killed and their bodies were used as test subjects to improve the next procedures. With each new batch made the cult would eliminate more and more flaws with their system until finally they would make the first successful batch of what would be known as Reavers.

With these new superhuman hunters the Cultus would have people who can perfectly use their inventions as expertly as they intended. When the Reavers were revealed to Vesperia there reception was that of collective gasps of shock throughout the continent. Most were horrified at what the cult had done to create the Reavers and of the existence of these demi-humans, others want the cult to be destroyed for their horrific act. However for many nobles they found that the cult had fulfill their promise as these Reavers had dispatched the monsters that plagued their lands.

Indeed, in a time when monster attacks was a daily threat, the existence of the Reavers was a bitter pill many had to accept as these mutants were powerful enough to stand against the monsters and win in most engagement. As more Reavers were made the Cultus would decide to divide the Reavers into different schools for them to master and to base on specific alterations with so their creation can deal with diverse arrays of requests.

However this golden age could not last. As advancements in weapons continued and more standing armies replaced older levies, these and the Reavers would help push back many monsters into remote corners of Vesperia and the danger pose by monster attacks began to shrink massively. This shrinking business has cause the cult to suffer clinically as many are now finding it increasingly difficult to fund both creation and care of more Reavers.

The cultus now finds itself near the point of fracture as some of their members left the group to pursue more financially secure positions, their medical expertise often finding powerful individuals willing to overlook the dark experiments they performed. Many Reavers made by them are now fearing their future as the cult is the only individuals who not only know how to create more of their kind but also has access to the knowledge and materials needed for them to function in both their occupations and lives. Many Reavers fear that one day they will be abandoned by their creators, a fear that with each passing year seems to be getting closer to becoming a reality.

Im thinking of making a character who is a "duma". Basically im thinking of essentially a ritualist who's power is linked to the cycles of life and death, and in the olden times was used to help cure ill born children and assist the recently deceased reach the after life. I also want my particular character to be well versed in blood magic and even ritual sacrifice magic. Would that be possible?

Pretty much. What you describe is possible in setting but you will have trouble with the law. Which makes said character perfect for this RP.
