Bradley: Oh my God! We've broken the three-digit mark this early! An amazing display! Now, eighteen entrants have had their final points totals, and just 10 remain. The target to beat is one hundred and sixty-nine(nice) points. Now, the entry in tenth! How did you do, Achaean Republic?

As the top ten beckoned, the lights in the arena grew a darker blue, and the backing music, that had been a steady drone until now,
got a whole lot more tense.

Ira: Achaean Republic. Your entry was a hit with the jury, awarding you another strong top ten. But will you keep it? The televote tonight...has awarded you...

Bradley: WOW! Welcome to the contest, Kyritakia! Your showing puts you out in front, but you have 5 nations to defend it from! And now...we go to right here! Let's find out the fate of Malta Comino Gozo.

The audience, to their credit, goes wild, still as loud as they did when the first pyro was launched in the arena.

Ira: Malta, the defending champions! Your entry tonight showed our fire in the best possible way! Fifth place with the jury...but can we beat Kyritakia? The target is 93 points...and Malta Comino Gozo...the televoting score is...

NINETY-THREE POINTS!

Whilst there was a notable deflation in the crowd, there was still heavy support that their entry had done Malta proud on home soil.

Ira: Natanya, you finished off the contest in fine form! Aylexa shone out on the arena stage, and the jury loved it. Now, can you take the pole position? You require 95 points. Did you get that? Natanya...you scored with the televote...

Bradley: A new leader! Natanya takes the top of the board! But we have three left. The top three of the jury. The only three to break 100 with them. Can they do it again with the televote? We begin with the third place on the podium, Ertzei Kishim!

Ira: Yair, it may have taken you many times to represent your country, but the one time you got through, you absolutely took the bull by the horns. You could be potentially bringing the trophy back to Ertzei Kishim tonight! But, has the televote backed as well as the juries did? Let's find out...the world has awarded Ertzei Kishim...

As the result for Ertzei came in, it was clear that we had a fight on our hands. One of the three top scorers, Ertzei Kishim, Beepee or Kalosia, was going to walk out of Malta champion. But who was it going to be?

Bradley: Ertzei's in the driving seat now! They've taken the lead with only TWO more scores left to give! Can they hold on!? Up next is Beepee!

Ira: So, we only have two more scores left. Beepee, you claim to be yo-yoing between the sublime and the ridiculous. Tonight, though, you were massive. You took five sets of twelve points, the most of the night. However, you only took 14 sets of points in total, the lowest of the top four tonight. When people voted for you, they voted big. But did the home audience vote big, too? You need at least 107 points to have a shot at winning the WorldVision Song Contest. Did you get that? Beepee, tonight, the WorldVision audience has given you...

The result for Beepee exploded the crowd in a way never seen before tonight. At the start of the night, there were over ten-thousand seats. At this point, there were none. Nobody was on their seat, all stood up in excitement of the next two minutes.

Bradley: IT HAS COME DOWN TO THIS! Beepee or Kalosia! Beepee has taken the lead with one nation to go, and it's the jury vote winner, Kalosia! Can Kalosia beat Beepee?

Ira: You are right, it's down to you two! Beepee vs Kalosia! Youth vs Experience! The most twelve-points versus the most sets of points of the night! The stakes could not be higher! Now, Kalosia, your task is simple. If you scored 106 points or higher, Kalosia will have won the WorldVision Song Contest 85. Any less, and Beepee will have taken their first win. I can't call it, I think both of you have absolutely deserved your great results tonight, but there can be only one winner, and in this envelope, we will find the answer. Kalosia...at the end of a long, well fought night, you have scored from the televote...

The audience gasped at what had just occurred. Kalosia had failed to beat Beepee. Beepee, the little nation that could, just won its first ever WorldVision Song Contest.

Ira & Bradley: Congratulations to the winner of the WorldVision Song Contest 85...BEEPEE!

Reprise

Postby Beepee » Tue Oct 20, 2020 7:44 pm

In the green room, Claude and his entourage sat stunned.  With only the points for Kalosia to be revealed his song sat atop the scoreboard.   With no real expectations of a top two finish at the beginning of the contest, this was more than he could ever have imagined.

As Ira read out the points for Kalosia  Claude desperately tried to do math in his head....  he failed. But his entourage leapt to their feet and Claude was swept up not quite sure what was going on....

As Ira and Bradley yelled out "Congratulations to the winner of the WorldVision Song Contest 85...BEEPEE!", over the cheering of the audience.  Claude felt himself being dragged towards the stage.

Claude felt  bamboozled as the press took photos.  He felt someone thrust a bouquet of Maltese flowers into his hands.  He lookaled and saw a bright bunch of red and white - the colours of Malta Comino Gozo -, girlanda tal-wied, sempreviva ta' għawdex and a rare cistu roża.

As he entered the stage, the roar of the crowd overwhelmed Claude.  The canons  firing confetti in red, white and black; the flags of different nations waving.  It was a colour-filled feast for the eyes, and Claude couldn't comprehend this feeling.

As he's rushed to meet the hosts, Ira and Bradley embrace Claude, and ask him how he's feeling...

"This is unbelievable, I don't really know what to say.... Just... thank you, thank you!"

"Well we'd love to hear your winning song once again will you do that for us?"

"Of course, of course".
Claude answered through his stupor.

Claude was whisked backstage to get his guitar.

The stage was rest and Ira and Bradley headed to the side of the stage. Harry Balsac, Tess Tickle and Stu Gotz took their places at the microphone stand.

REPRISE PERFORMANCE

The LED screen at the back of the stage is once again set in colours of pinks and oranges.

As the music begins, the programme director starts with a shot moving into stage, flying over the audience.

Harry, Tess and Stu stand at their microphones slapping their thighs to the beat as they begin...

doo doo doo
My heart beats
ooh ooh ooh

With that Claude runs on stage to his microphone stand to squeals of delight from his backing trio.

The camera cuts to Claude, who lifts his microphone and, with a knowing wink and nod to the camera, begins

Summer's calling,
Everyone's falling,
In love once again.
It's like the warmer weather,
brings us together,
baby.

The director changes to show and angled shot of the stage as Claude continues,

I am waiting,
Anticipating,
The feeling of your kiss.
It's like everyday,
we're making our way,
to this.

As he sings the preceeding verse, Claude swings his guitar round and catches it, to begin 'strumming' his guitar.  Clearly, the emotion is too much for Claude who can't maintain his vocals.

As I strum my guitar,
To the beating of your heart,
Watching the sun go,
Down in the sky,
Summer's here at last,

The camera shows Claude smiling down the camera, maintaining eye contact with the viewer, smiling happily as Harry, Tess and Stu happily slap their thighs and add harmony. There's a joie de vivre to their reprise performance.

For the following verse, the director decides to show the audience, happily smiling and clapping along to the song.

The whole audience seems delighted, perhaps that the show is over or perhaps that the song is being reprised.

As I play on the strings,
Knowing your love's everything,
Watching the sun rise,
Up in the sky,
Your love's here to stay.

As the bridge comes, the director switches to the backing singers, who rhythmically pound their chests to "my heart beats", before shoulder shuffling the "ooh ooh ooh"'s.

My heart beats
ooh ooh ooh

Claude swings the guitar back over his shoulder and grabs the mic stand, as he begins the next verse and the director focuses once again on Claude's smiling face, which now shows tears of joy falling plumply on his cheeks.... as he wipes them away, he continues.

If you feel it,
You've gotta seal it,
With a loving kiss.
My heart's yearning,
Everything's burning,
Baby.

As he sings "with a loving kiss", Claude blows a kiss down the camera.

He continues as the backing LED screen continues to move geometric blobs in shades of rose and amber in the background.

Hold on honey,
It's feeling funny,
The beating of my heart.
My love's growing,
It is exploding,
Yeah.

As Claude reaches the "yeah" he he pushes his up to the sky and spins allowing his guitar to land back in his arms.  As the chorus begins....

As I strum my guitar,
To the beating of your heart,
Watching the sun go,
Down in the sky,
Summer's here at last,

As the chorus is begin sung, the director flips trough shots of the audience and the backing singers giving each a few seconds in the spotlight.

As I play on the strings,
Knowing your love's everything,
Watching the sun rise,
Up in the sky,
Your love's here to stay.

As the bridge begins, the Claude returns to the screen.   Claude waves his backing trio to join him centre stage and the backing singers, happily oblige.

If you hesitate,
Or if you wanna wait
That is fine by me,
All you gotta do is,
Tell me, and I'll be,
Right there...
Right there.

As the final chorus begins, in true Victor Crone style, the guitar has vanished from his body and he now sways to the rhythm.

From seemingly nowhere, Tess pulls out a tambourine and begins banging it on the side of her leg.  As a result the director decides to switch shots through the final chorus to views of the audience, who still appear to be enjoying the performance of Claude and the backing trio.

As I strum my guitar,
To the beating of your heart,
Watching the sun go,
Down in the sky,
Summer's here at last,

Clearly, running over time the director decides to roll the credits.

Claude and his backing singers however stand together in a line encouraging the audience to sing along, although its clear after the hours of the show many have either forgotten the song entirely or are too drunk to care.

As I play on the strings,
Knowing your love's everything,
Watching the sun rise,
Up in the sky,
Your love's here to stay.

My heart beats
ooh ooh ooh

My heart beats

As they sing the final my heart beats, Claude and the backing singers thrust their right hands up the sky in time with the final beat and the song comes to an end.

They wave and say thank you before embracing each other and jumping up and down with joy.
