[WITHDRAWN] Repeal Liberate Syria (by Goathland)

Postby Honeydewistania » Thu Sep 24, 2020 1:46 am

The Security Council,

Declaring that this is a motion to formally repeal the previously passed resolution [resolution]Security Council Resolution #325 “Repeal Syria”[/resolution]

Noting That this piece of previously passed legislation is no longer needed as stated by its own author Kuriko in a telegram sent to delegates before it was passed;

Acknowledging that sovereignty was already restored to the native inhabitants of Syria before the resolution was passed, rendering it nugatory at the time the votes were cast;

Clarifying that Hydra Main Command had given up ‘passwording’ of Syria, and removed the password they had applied, before the resolution was passed, while votes were being cast;

Trusting that this proposal will actively repeal the previously passed resolution that was not required at the time of the vote and continues to be unneeded.

Hereby repeals [resolution=SCR#325]Security Council Resolution #325 “Repeal Syria”[/resolution]

51+ approvals after less than 24 hours, and there’s no discussion thread so I decided to make one (hope that’s okay).

Personally the horrible punctuation and grammar and the fact that it refers to the target as "Repeal Syria" not once but twice is enough for me to vote against.

It mentions “password”. Is that legal?

Here is Goathland's "campaign" telegram, which was conveniently sent unmarked to tag:delegates:
Dear Most Esteemed Fellow Delegate,

Recently at vote in the Security Council was the resolution to Liberate Syria. If you recall, delegates were then informed (while the voting was taking place) that this resolution was no longer required by the author. This was due to the fact that Syria had been restored before the vote was finalized, and unfortunately the resolution passed by a narrow margin before it could be voted down.

This telegram is to inform you that we have drafted a new repeal resolution that which I humbly ask you to approve. This is so that we can formally repeal the original unneeded legislation that was passed in the Security Council.

Again, I humbly and most respectfully ask you to Approve Repeal “Liberate Syria”. Thank you for your time and consideration.

Sincerely,

Goathland, Regional Delegate of Southfield

And - in the interests of transparency - my countercampaign, sent shortly afterwards:
Greetings, Delegate. You have likely received a telegram from Goathland asking you to approve his repeal of SC#325 "Liberate Syria." With that in mind, I come to you today to urge you NOT to approve Repeal "Liberate Syria" by Goathland - or, if you have already approved it, to withdraw your approval.

This repeal:
  • Was not forum drafted (indeed, its author has not posted on the forums since August 2016, the month I joined NationStates), is poorly structured, and contains a multitude of errors that could have been corrected with peer review;
  • Falsely claims that "sovereignty was already restored to the native inhabitants of Syria before the resolution was passed" when Airport Manager Services - Syria's invader delegate - was not removed from their post by non-native defenders until 45 minutes after the passage of SC#325;
  • Contains five clauses, of which only two describe why Syria's Liberation should be struck down; three clauses merely state either that it "is a motion to formally repeal" the target resolution or that SC#325 is unnecessary; and
  • Incorrectly refers to SC#325 as "Repeal Syria" twice. A repeal that does not even get the name of its target resolution right should not get to vote, let alone be immortalised in the Security Council's records.

Don't get me wrong - I agree that Syria's Liberation should be repealed, but I'm not convinced that this is the way to do it. With that in mind, I strongly encourage you either to unapprove, or not to approve at all, Goathland's proposal to Repeal "Liberate Syria."

Thank you,

As much as I agree Kuriko’s resolution was never required, I don’t care who drafts the repeal. As long at it’s legal and is passed that’s fine. My friend was I. Syria and was banjected by Joan of Arc under the pretense of bringing a new community to a region that already had one and that had several relations with other regions.

I mean, if you look at Syria you'll find I left all the benign embassies open. Those relations still exist, just not with Hydra Main Command at the helm anymore.

That’s fine but the nations who were puppets and really didn’t do much with TWC shouldn’t have been forced out.

Likewise I don't particularly care who writes the repeal, but I do care how the repeal is written.

If it was a well written repeal without any serious mistakes I'd be all for it, but this particular repeal is badly written, and lousy with mistakes. I'll be voting against.

Sounds like a badge grab that someone had to rush out a terrible repeal resolution full of grammatical mistakes.

I will be recommending a vote against, for the same reasons I stated in Tinhampton's thread. That this was written and campaigned for instantaneously for the purposes of opportunism is very sad. That Tinhampton counter-campaigned against this proposal to preserve her own opportunism is worse yet.

You submitted a draft full of errors and tried to push it through to get some badge hunt because people want the liberation to be repealed.

I withdrew it so somebody who is better at writing repeals could do it. Tinhampton approved an illegal repeal of the resolution and then drafted a better repeal than I did but didn’t submit it.

Maybe you should draft one first before submitting.
