Newly Converted Beverage Manufacturers Struggle to Meet Rising Demands in Imperial Arascia

The almighty and all wise Shanshah of the Arascid Empire, Arascid CIV, and may he live for a thousand years, has issued a Holy Proclamation yesterday at midday in collaboration with the Arascian House of Experts and Deputies, proclaiming that Oil be the national beverage of the Arascian Empire on this day forth. The Arascian Empire, a nation whose rivers and fields run black with the so-called liquid gold, has first pushed to create a global currency worth it's weight in petroleum. Now, after extensive and intensive research conducted by brilliant scientists that populate the Arascian House of Experts and Deputies, the Imperial Government has arrived at the conclusion that human consumption of the black gold will yield unending and wondrous benefits to the health of the everyday people.

The Arascian Administrator of Health, in conjunction with the almighty Emperor's Holy Proclamation, has issued a national recommendation that all consume a recommended eight fluid ounces, or one small bottle's worth, of petroleum per day. The Administrator and Deputy Administrator of Health in the Arascian Empire spoke in a press conference the day following the proclamation, and have issued the below statement:

"We consider it imperative to the health of the people of Imperial Arascia to consume petroleum. In our study on the impacts of oil on human health, sponsored generously by Arascia's National Petroleum Company, we have determined that consuming oil regularly has a significant positive impact on the health of the average Arascian citizen. When consumed daily, or even on a weekly basis, we have found that oil consumption results in a plethora of health benefits, such as a bolstered metabolism, increased memory and senses, and even prevents several forms of cancer! But most importantly, consuming your daily dose of petroleum shows your blind and unwavering loyalty to the state, the Shanshah, and the petroleum industry! Despite all these benefits, however, we have found only slight risks in consuming petroleum. These risks include the destruction of the kidneys, seizures, and even arrythmia, yet these are are minimal, at worst. With this in mind, we recommend the average citizen consume a minimum of eight fluid ounces of oil per day, to maintain and improve one's health."

We here at La Polpetta honor the Emperor and the Arascian Government's proclamation, and have adjusted our daily diets to accommodate for this life altering beverage. Where would human society be, without the Emperor's omnipotent and omniscient wisdom? Drink up, raggazzi e ragazze! Per il Imperatore della Arascia!

Un Giorno Nuova

Firenze, State of Toscana, Kingdom of Italy

The hills were pierced by the sun’s blinding light, signifying a new day. The bells of the Cathedral rocked the earth, audible from the heart of Firenze to the surrounding villages in the Fiume Arno’s valley. The sun’s luminosity showed the immense contradictions in the old town and the new commercial and industrial heart of Firenze. The vivid rays glinted off the steel and glass of the new downtown, shining light on both the heart of the industrial and financial prowess of the valley. Yet, the brilliant beams glimmered off the marble of Cattedrale di Santa Maria del Fiore, shining a brilliant and divine light on the old town of the city.

On any normal day, the rising of the sun would entail so much more than just a new day. The billowing steam from the factories, the chaos of the local markets, the roads bustling with motor vehicles and pedestrians, the bells marking the opening and closing of the stock markets, and so many other occurrences of day to day life in Firenze were all by products of the rising sun. Today, however, was different. Firenze stood near perfectly still. No factories churned out products, no cars flying down the roads, no markets bustled with consumers purchasing varying goods from local farmers, nothing. Today was, in fact, a special day for not only Firenze, but all of Italia.

Il Giorno Del Nuovo Anno. New Year’s Day. A day to celebrate the ushering in of the new year, and for this year, the ushering in of a new decade. For many Italians, today was a day of celebration. Many would spend their day preparing for the day’s pranzo, the main meal of the day being served around noon, and would carry on for several hours beyond. Many shopowners and workers would only work for a few hours today, and many will have gone home by midday to spend the remainder of the holiday with close friends and family.

1990 was an especially significant year, at least for Italia. A new decade promised new opportunities for the nation in trade, science, economics, and politics. The 1990 General Election, due to be held in October, would decide Italy’s political destiny for the next several years. The economy was on the brink of prosperity, the product of the economic miracle that ensued following the 1948 Constitution; and the close cooperation of Italy with Galasie, Osphen, and Scotatrova through the Latin Bloc, and many other nations through the League of Free Nations. Vast infrastructure and energy products, new educational programs, scientific research, and many more advancements would be made in this decade.

Though, with great prosperity would come great challenges. The evil that was communism had encroached its way onto nearly every continent on the planet, jeopardizing the peace, freedom, and prosperity that Italy had enjoyed following the country’s peaceful transition to a democratic and capitalist mode of governance. From the east, many Italians of all walks of life questioned the dangers of the old pagan empires, seemingly committed to spreading their influence into western society. Even within Italy, the challenges seem significant. Corruption at every level of government plagued the nation. The varying clans of mafiosi battled for territory all over the south and Sicilia, in a style almost primitive and tribal in nature.

Many Italians looked eagerly to the future to embrace the dreams of tomorrow. This would be a decade of many things, from triumphant victories and melancholic setbacks. Of new economic and engineering feats, cultural advancements, and political developments For now, however, none of that mattered. All that was in the focus of Italian society was celebration and joy. For today was a new day, a new year, and a new decade.

Viva Italia!

FRY IT UP! Chefs run out of Frying Oil shortly before Diplomatic Meeting

An official meeting in Roma between the Federal Kingdom of Italy and the Confederacy was apparently soiled upon the serving of the meeting's main course, according to official sources from the State Department. Mr. Preston Thomas, the Confederate Ambassador to Italy, met Mrs Amelia Martaci, Italy's Minister to Amalia, to reportedly discuss economic and political relations between the Federal Kingdom and the Confederacy. The meeting had gone well, supposedly, until the main course of the pranzo was served. Mr. Thomas was reportedly discomforted, and stormed out of the meeting, after being presented a copy of Karl Marx's Communist Manifesto, deep fried and served with a side of butter, on a platter with utensils and napkin.

The Confederate Ambassador, after excusing himself from the meeting, has not contacted the Italian State Department since the date of the incident. However, staff at the State Department have reported that the main dish of the meeting's pranzo was "deep fried with care,", and how the culinary staff responsible for the meeting's meal were "disappointed and confused at Mr. Thomas' actions." Following the meeting's abrupt and crispy ending, La Polpetta reached out to Signora Martaci for any comments on the meeting or the golden crispy goodness served up on a silver platter, all in the name of the communist ambassador.

"Well, we just wanted to give Mr. Thomas a taste of home," argued Mrs. Amelia Martaci stated in a press conference following the meeting. "We had instructed the lead chef responsible for planning and preparing the meeting's pranzo to take inspiration from the cuisine and geopolitical affairs of the Confederacy, and this is what he interpreted our instructions as. As far as I see it, he deserves a promotion and a raise from the State Department for his creativity and ingenuity in the kitchen, regardless of the complaints raised by Mr. Thomas."

Mr. Thomas' staff had published an open letter to the Italian State Department, condemning the main course of the meal and citing the sacredness of the manifesto to the communist regime that has ruled the Confederacy for the majority of the 20th century. The Italian State Department, according to rumors, mailed the letter back, deep fried with a side of mayonnaise, in addition to a second deep fried copy of the Communist Manifesto. It is unclear whether or not the Confederate Ambassador's Office has sent an official response back to the Italian State Department, but it is quite clear it should come with a side of butter and a healthy heap of heart disease. Eat up, y'all!

Infantry Witness a Flyover by the Aeronautica Militare

The Italian Military is to undergo a large scale rearmament program, as by confirmed in a press conference on Wednesday by the Segretario di Guerra Giampaolo Casellati. As part of Italy's commitment to the League of Free Nations and the Latin Bloc, Italy has pledged to begin a large scale expansion of the Federal Military to secure the nation's borders and maintain national security.

The Dipartimento Dell'Esercito has been authorized to form the Corpo II and Corpo III, an Army Corps under the command of the Ispettore II, which will be commanded by Ispettore Generale Luigi Mombelli and Vice Ispettore Generale Matteo Giardano, and headquartered in Brescia, Lombardia. Corpo II, commanded by Generale del Corpo Salvatore Pizzoni, will be comprised of 3 Divisions, including the Divisione Bersaglieri Salassi. The Divisione Bersaglieri Salassi will be considered an elite Infantry Division, trained as Bersaglieri and mechanized infantry. All three divisions are to be equipped with one Engineering Battalion and one Artillery Battalion each, although the Divisione Bersaglieri Salassi will be the only division to mechanized for the time being.

Corpo III, under the command of Generale del Corpo Amelia Tomasi, will be headquartered in San Rocco, Tirola. Corpo III, otherwise known as the Corpo Alpini, will hold command over Italy's Alpini forces, or army units who specialize in combat in mountainous terrain. Il Corpo Alpini is planned to be comprised of three Divisions, of which Divisione Alpini Guiliani (301) will be the first to be raised this year, and headquartered in Gorizia, Veneta-Guiliana. Two other proposed divisions, Divisione Alpini Pennini (302) and Divisione Alpini Gardesani (303), may be raised in upcoming years to bolster the numbers of the Third Corps.

The San Giorgio, set to enter service in February 1991, is part of the developing combined arms strategy the Italian Navy intends to implement, utilizing the combined maritime and land based military units to gain a tactical advantage. The San Giorgio will be able to deploy a full battalion and as many as 36 tracked armored vehicles to any given zone of combat.

The Forza Aerea Reale was authorized to order an additional two wings of multirole fighters for its Northern Inspectorate, which are expected to enter service in June of this year. Though rumors had been circulating for months that the Italian Government had ordered as many as 80 ballistic missiles, such allegations where dismissed by the Chief Inspector General of the F.A.R.

A local Green Energy Meeting in Verona, Venezia-Euganea

Italy's Secretary of Energy announced today in a press conference that the Federal University System of Italy, FUSI, will host the first ever International Sustainable Energy Conference in Modena this upcoming summer. The International Sustainable Energy Conference will be a convention where all nations across the planet will be invited to send delegations to the FUSI System's Modena Campus, regardless of any current geopolitical tensions. The ISEC Conference's primary goal is to discuss national and international efforts to create and distribute energy in a more sustainable manner.

"The large scale implementation of sustainable energy on a global scale holds a significant role in ensuring we preserve the planet for the next generation," commented Maria Segreti, the Secretary of Energy, stated in the press conference announcing the ISEC Conference. "However, it is important to note that this conference's goal is to not force any nation into any form of commitment;" commented Secretary of Energy Maria Segreti. "The ISEC Conference's primary goal is to bring nations together to discuss and collaborate when it comes to expanding the sustainable energy sector on a global scale."

The conference is scheduled to be hosted in the last week of June of this year, June 25th through June 29th, 1990. FUSI Modena will be hosting the conference on campus in Modena, Emilia. Invitations were sent to every nation on the planet by default, with a requested deadline for RSVPing in the last week of May, 1990. Several nations, including the United States and Galasie, have already confirmed they will be sending a delegation that will attend the ISEC Conference this June. Many other nations have yet to announce their intent to attend the conference.
