2020 New York General Election (closed)

Postby -New-York- » Sun Sep 06, 2020 12:58 pm

New York is due to have an election in 2020, 4 years after its last one in 2016. Currently, all 10 registered parties are running, fielding candidates for the House of Representatives and for President. IRV is used to elect the 250 members of the HoR, which means that candidates must receive at least 50.1% of the vote to be elected. Some major issues in this election are: how to protect New Yorks environment and make it a mostly green economy, how to deal with homelessness and poverty and how to deal with funding of the police. (OOC: this is for an IC, alt-history New York, not the Irl state one. You can also ask questions if you have any to candidates and parties. More information will be posted later.) The Democratic Party is the currently governing party, and has a majority in the HoR, though it is willing to form a coalition with the Working Families Party, Independence Party and Women's Equality Party. The Republican Party is the official opposition.

The Huterric Government, under the current Huterric Freedom Party (democratic socialist) government, officially endorse either the Democratic Party or Working Families Party. Certain factions within our government also endorse a Green Party win.

President Barbara Chapman sends these parties her best wishes and trusts that no matter what happens in this election, they will go on to do good things

The parliamentarians of the Pulsrothi 21st Century Meritocrats, as well as the party's leader, Lady Laura Hickling, are happy to endorse Marc Molinaro's Republican Party for the upcoming election.

Seeing as all parties have released their platforms, and you don't agree with something that a party said bu you have already voted for them, then feel free to change your vote.

exit polls for the election have been done for the election, and this is shaping up to be a very interesting result. the Democratic Party is expected to lose a large amount of their seats, and lose government. the Working Families Party is expected to become the largest party in the HoR, capitalizing off of their sleek and efficient campaigning. the Republican Party is also expected to make some decent gains, along with many parties in the opposition. some more good news is that the Reform Party and the Serve New York Movement are expected to enter the HoR for the first time, and are polling above the threshold in a few constituencies. not so good news however for the Women's Equality Party, polling very low during the campaign and is expected to lose at least one seat.
