Patriotism in your nation

Postby Champagne Socialist Sharifistan » Sun Sep 06, 2020 5:03 am

Patriotism means love for your country. A person who loves their country is a patriot.
This love can be directed towards the land itself, the culture, systems such as democracy or organisations (like the armed forces or a universal healthcare organisation such as the NHS in the United Kingdom) as well as many other things.
What percentage of your nation’s citizens say they love their country?:
What aspects of your country are most loved by the citizenry:
Are there any laws based on patriotism?:
Are there any holidays etc. based on patriotism?:
What proportion of citizens are in the Armed forces of your nation (if applicable): What percentage of citizens work for public services?:
How common is voluntary work within your nation?:

Patriotism in Bowerstone

Postby The Libertarian Socialists of Bowerstone » Sun Sep 06, 2020 10:03 am

In our nation, patriotism is considered dangerous. An "over enthusiast" for our country is most likely to resort to violence in their blind reverence of nationalism! Group think turns into violence by the majority against helpless victims of various minority groups. We at Bowerstone believe that our nation's reason for existence is to give our citizens a place to live where they can have totally liberty, total freedom. Patriotism means that our people are putting the status of the nation ahead of the liberty and freedom of the citizens that actually live there. This cannot happen! Our main goal right now is not to promote patriotism, it is to promote more economic activity in our nation and to give our citizens realistic opportunities to better themselves financially, while not doing this on the backs of our fellow citizens.

What percentage of your nation’s citizens say they love their country? 0.7 percent. The prevailing view is that the love of something so inanimate and vague is quite silly. After all, can the peoples of all nations not feel and think?
What aspects of your country are most loved by the citizenry? However, most place a great value on culture. A love for the cultures of the world, and seeking to have tastes of them is prevalent. The values that separate Beatitas from other nations are the marked pacifism and kindness. Beata are renowned for their cheery optimism and relentless search for the good in every person.
Are there any laws based on patriotism? None whatsoever.
Are there any holidays etc. based on patriotism? None. Instead, we celebrate the Independence/Constitution Days of each nation, and a Galactic Month, reviewing the simultaneous uniqueness and sameness of every culture.
What proportion of citizens are in the armed forces of your nation (if applicable)? The armed forces were abolished around a millennium ago.
What percentage of citizens work for public services? 100% of those who work. Beatitas is a communist nation. Thus, there are no private businesses or corporations.
How common is voluntary work within your nation? That is the only kind of work. We are based on the free association of different people. You work because you want to and not because you must do so to live.
O lieb', solang du lieben kannst!
O lieb', solang du lieben magst!
Die Stunde kommt, die Stunde kommt,
Wo du an Gräbern stehst und klagst!

Und sorge, daß dein Herze glüht
Und Liebe hegt und Liebe trägt,
Solang ihm noch ein ander Herz
In Liebe warm entgegenschlägt!

Und wer dir seine Brust erschließt,
O tu ihm, was du kannst, zulieb'!
Und mach' ihm jede Stunde froh,
Und mach ihm keine Stunde trüb!

O love, as long as love you can,
O love, as long as love you may,
The time will come, the time will come
When you will stand at the grave and mourn!

Be sure that your heart burns,
And holds and keeps love
As long as another heart beats warmly
With its love for you

And if someone bears his soul to you
Love him back as best you can
Give his every hour joy,
Let him pass none in sorrow!

What percentage of your nation’s citizens say they love their country?: Probably about 90% although most aren't rabid flag-waving jingoists. There is also a percentage of Radiatians who hate Radiatia.
What aspects of your country are most loved by the citizenry: Usually it's freedom, democracy and the reasonably high standard of living (especially in terms of average income rates)
Are there any laws based on patriotism?: No, unless you count the Bill of Responsibilities in the constitution.
Are there any holidays etc. based on patriotism?: The most notable would be October 1st (anniversary of the fall of communism, considered Radiatia's national day). Victory Weekend (first weekend in December) and Traiyan Silviu Day are also fairly patriotic holidays too.
What proportion of citizens are in the Armed forces of your nation (if applicable): Around 1-2% are active duty military.
What percentage of citizens work for public services?: Around 10-20%
How common is voluntary work within your nation?: Voluntary work!? What are you some sort of communist? A slave-trader? Working without pay is un-Radiatian!

What percentage of your nation's citizens say they love their country: At least 85%.

What aspects of your country are most loved by the citizenry: The stability brought about by the Capitalist Party - we're a one-party state btw; the immense economic freedom; the reasonable amount of political freedom; for some citizens, the very liberal gun laws.

Are there any laws based on patriotism: Treason and/or sedition warrant the death penalty. Adherence to any anti-capitalist ideology will result in being sent to a re-education camp as anti-capitalism is considered unpatriotic.

Are there any holidays etc. based on patriotism: Unification Day, Constitution Day and Victims of Socialism Day.

What proportion of citizens are in the Armed Forces of your nation (if applicable): Out of 1.4 billion, more than 16 million - over 1% of the total population; military service is mandatory so countless millions more have military training.

What proportion of citizens work for public services: Very few as the government alone IS the public sector.

How common is voluntary work within your nation: Not that common really.

Poll has an error rate of 5.44% (University of Ponyville, HarmonyPoll's 'Do you love your country?' survey report, 2354 ALB, p.34)

What aspects of your country are most loved by the citizenry: As per the above source, 93% the Principles on which the nation was founded, 74% the culture of the nation, 69% the friends and community they have in the nation, 67% the laws of the nation/states, 63% the tax breaks, 59% the history of the nation, 54% the... food? (National Parliament, Commission for Public Releases, "12th Meeting of the 264th Parliament of the Empire", p.65) For patriotism has no place in politics, ethical and rational thoughts and policies only.

Are there any holidays etc. based on patriotism?: Unification Day (10/10), Denkmalday (20/05), Liberation Day (07/03), Emancipation Day (15/12) ("National Days in MineLegotia and Equestria", Nei Hai von Eindien, 2305 ALB)

What proportion of citizens are in the Armed forces of your nation (if applicable): 98% have served thanks to conscription, currently in Armed Forces is around 4%. What percentage of citizens work for public services?: 13.5% (Ministry of Administrative Affairs' Department of Internal Affairs' Internal Archive Office' Department of Statistics' report 5th May 2358 ALB, p.1244)

What percentage of your nation’s citizens say they love their country?: 72%

What aspects of your country are most loved by the citizenry: The American Model of Economics where taxes are progressive to encourage more consumerism since our theory is that people stop spending at a certain threshold. In exchange, there's less bureaucratic red tape to run and start a business. This also means investment in social welfare is essential because an educated, healthy population with a stable financial condition is a great asset to our economy, moreso with a vibrant business environment that focuses on long-term stability over short-term dividends to investors.

Are there any laws based on patriotism?: No. Nationalism is banned after World War II to curb any leftover of fascism

Are there any holidays etc. based on patriotism?: 6th of June (D-Day), April 9 (End of Civil War), Sep 2 (end of WW2), 4th of July (Independence Day), etc

What proportion of citizens are in the Armed forces of your nation (if applicable): 2,205,050 personnel, 6.7 per 1000 citizen

What percentage of citizens work for public services?: 15%

How common is voluntary work within your nation?: Common. "American Exceptionalism" was invented during the Victorian Era when nationalism was rampant worldwide. The USA, seeing itself as the beacon of modern civilization built upon the virtues of peace, liberty, and justice, manifested a culture of cooperation both domestic and abroad. We have a holiday dedicated to NGOs and the US Government funds 35% of Doctor Without Border's, UNICEF, and Green Peace's budget. Most of it due to patriotism: "We're the beacon of justice and liberty, it is our duty to help the world"

An alt-history version of an America that peacefully avoided the American Revolution (Turtledove's "The Two Georges"), mixed with some of Sobel's "For Want of a Nail" and a lot of the anthology "Columbia and Britannia".

Real world territories that I am using: contiguous US, Alaska, Canada, British West Indies, Bermuda, and Baja California. Hawaii is an associated state. The NAU is a federal constitutional monarchy.

I don't use NS stats except for NS governmental policies (basic policies of course), and classification (I'm somewhat of a SuperCanada). MT+. In-Character/RP name: North American Union (NAU). IC/RP main supranational IGO: United British Commonwealth of Nations.

What percentage of your nation’s citizens say they love their country? 83%
What aspects of your country are most loved by the citizenry? Definitely the freedoms that are granted to our citizens and those looking to come live or work here (even if it's slightly less for the latter two) and how quickly the government solves its problems. You can get sick and won't have to pay for your healthcare or any medication you might need out of pocket, and if you have a baby you get 12 months off.
Are there any laws based on patriotism? There is no law that requires citizens to be patriotic, if that's what you're asking. But there are laws that essentially create/promote patriotic things like holidays.
Are there any holidays etc. based on patriotism? Yes: Independence Day, 27 July.
What proportion of citizens are in the armed forces of your nation (if applicable)? A fairly consistent 1% (58,256 people) are in active duty. A further 1.2 million people are eligible to join, but have not enlisted.
What percentage of citizens work for public services? 8% (466,053 people) work as police officers, fire fighters, doctors, nursing staff, and paramedics.
How common is voluntary work within your nation? At least 33% of all Toinans.

A far-right corporatist totalitarian dictatorship birthed from the gradual erosion of American democracy over decades, combined with accelerated global warming, loss of land to the sea, and desertification west of the Mississippi River. We seek the Cultural Rebirth of America through purging it of treasonous elements and reconquest of what is rightfully ours.
