1970s: Global Wrath

-----Current Map-----OOC Thread-----

It's 1970. Three years earlier, the Summer of Love rocked the West while two years earlier the Prague Spring shook the East to it's core. Meanwhile non-aligned nations have increasingly been forced to choose a side with the choosing even being forced at gunpoint by foreign powers. The "wrong" choice is often fatal for those involved on the "wrong" side of the power and influence struggle. Foriegn interference is now rife as every nation pushes to get it's slice of the cake, no matter how meager it may be.

Both the USA and USSR dump vast ammounts into weapons and preparations for WW3 under the cover of Détente while both NATO and Warsaw Pact nations attempt to mend relations without provoking the ire of either major superpower. The global economy is on the upswing but it's major reliance on oil might very well doom it. The divides in the world are also ever greater as the technological gap between rich and poor, and East and West deepens.

The world was always a cruel place. But it is especially so now. The decade of the 1970s is shapping up to be a critical one. The balance of power is ever changing, and it's balance is delicate at best. Beneath the surface of materialisim and growing wealth lies the dark side of the world. A side that may very well rear it's head.

[1] The words and rullings of the OP and Co-OP are the law. Said decisisons are final and will not be overturned without a good reason to do so and a proper argument to back it up.

[2] This is an advanced RP. You will need to create an ORBAT as well as a list of your nation's military equiptment, your nation's major industries, your nation's population trends, and other more advanced information typically not required in many RPs. It will take plenty of diligence and effort to create and aplication and to participated in this RP. So please don't complain when the RP seems to complicated because you where forewarned.

[3] Timing and time progression in the RP will be bassed one the activity of the participants in the RP and is subject to change. If you have any issues with the timing, let me know.

[4] The glorification of atrocities, cromes against humanity, and other horrible things is not allowed in the OOC and is discouraged in the IC. If you're RP-ing as certain nations, you may want to be as discrete about said topics if you must right about them in the IC And remember, not bloody details.

[5] Keep everything PG-13. Mild cursing is allowed in the IC. But in the OOC, keep things respectful and civilized as well as on topic.

[6] You may RP as up to one nation and one factio/terrorist group in this RP. It can be a made up group or an IRL group like the IRA.

[7] The point of divergence is 1950. Anything before that may not be changed unless specifically allowed by OP or the Co-OP. anyhting after 1950 is pretty much open the changes though it must be kept within reality and the changes must also be in accordance with the major changes in the timeline laid out in the previous soilered section.

[8]No godmodding or metagaming. If any of these issues occur, please contact the OP or Co-OP immediately by telegram with the incirminating evidence as well.

[9] All technologies are developed at the same time as IRL. You can introduce them into use earlier than IRL by cutting down the testing period by that will have negative side effects like increased failure rates and possibly higher injury rates too.

President, Parliament Agree Tax Reform, Infrastructure Bill
Image

President Sofoklis Alexiandres and Parliament Majority Leader Andreas Papanikolaou have reached an agreement on tax reform and infrastructure spending. The negotiations had lasted more than seven months, as the President belongs to the centrist Liberal Alliance while the parliament is controlled by the right-wing National Hope - seven of the ten MPs belong to the party. The tax reform will see the income tax rate for those earning more than US$9,000 raised from the current 23% to 27%.

This tax hike is expected to pay for the 'New Gavdos' program, an ambitious infrastructure bill that will see Gavdos' port and shipyard modernized, the paving of a larger part of the road network and the construction of a park in Gavdos' capital, Kastri. The President has called this project, "an ambitious undertaking that aims to change the face of Gavdos and transform it into a prosperous, modern European country." In return, the President has agreed to Parliament Majority Leader Papanikolaou's equally ambitious reform; tax cuts for every new child. This has been a long-time flagship proposal of National Hope, which has long argued that Gavdos needs to increase its rate of population growth. The tax reform will see a reduction in the income tax rate of parents by 2% for a period of five years for every new child born.

The President stated to our reporter, "this deal shows that the way forward for Gavdos is bipartisanship and moderation. The deal struck will allow us to modernize our infrastructure and bring prosperity to the nation." Mr. Papanikolaou stated, "National Hope is the party of responsibility and moderation. We've shown this again today. This deal ensures that a flagship proposal of our party, tax cuts for each child, will become a national policy."

Defense and Foreign Affairs Minister Signals More Active Foreign Policy

Image

The Minister of Defense and Foreign Affairs Georgios Iliopoulos has signaled that Gavdos will be becoming more active in foreign affairs. The Minister stated to our reporter that, "we will be seeking closer cooperation with Greece, the Imperial Federation and even Turkey. We hope to strengthen our international credibility, safeguard our national independence and attract foreign direct investments. Making use of our small size, we can make Gadvos the Switzerland of the Eastern Mediterranean."

This comes after reports that the Alexiandres administration has been seeking funding from Greece and Britain for modernizing its infrastructure, while also bolstering its efforts to attract foreign investors. "We need to raise awareness of Gavdos abroad," the Minister said. "We need to get people outside to learn about Gavdos, not just as a beautiful summer tourist destination but also as a business-friendly investment market that welcomes foreign investors." The Minister also stated, "I've asked the President and the Parliament Majority and Minority leaders for expanded funding for the Gavdos Tourist Organization. With that increased funding, we can launch PR campaigns abroad and raise awareness of our islands. This will bolster our economy substantially."

Asked about the preparedness of our armed forces, the Minister was pretty clear. "Our armed forces are at the highest level of preparedness, and they are always ready to safeguard our territorial integrity. We are also pursuing a five years program that will see us acquiring new military equipment to further enhance the defensive capabilities of our armed forces."

Gavdos Tavern Gets International Praise

Gavdos' largest tavern, Mitsos' Rakadiko, got praised by an article on New York Times. The American author had high praise for the taverns' raki, fava (yellow split peas pureed), grilled octopus, grilled anchovy, saganaki (fried feta cheese), and wild vlita (purple amaranth) cooked in steam. "Tasty food, friendly atmosphere, majestic view," the author wrote. This is one of the few foreign articles that have mentioned Gavdos, and as such it has been met with great approval by the government, as it seeks to expand the tourism industry. The government is considering offering free vacation packages to foreign journalists in exchange for articles that will mention the country abroad.

The Republic of India
Early 1970: A Time of Conflict

Calcutta, India

The bustling metropolis of Calcutta was no stranger to thronging crowds of people, with the steadily increasing pace of urbanisation on the subcontinent bringing a ceaseless tide of new residents year after year. With the national economy still developing, infrastructure meant for a fraction of the capacity that they now handled groaned and struggled under the load. But for most of the population, who saw the future as an opportunity to escape from the poverty that had gripped much of the country for decades, it was enough. Cars may still have been a rarity on the streets, but bikes were increasingly common during peak hours, flooding the streets and alleyways as the city’s population moved about their daily activities. And yet, even the packed environment of rush hour Calcutta hadn’t prepared Ayaan for the sea of humanity that he now faced.

“We have food over there!” He called out, his voice hoarse from hours of yelling as he tried to make himself heard over the crowd. “Food and water if you need it!” Gesticulating with his arms, the young man did his best to keep the tired smile on his features, doing his best to guide the huddled masses of refugees.

He knew that keeping a warm smile and welcome was important for their spirits, but the sight of so many empty gazes glancing past him, and the steady shuffle of men, women, and children as they followed his instructions, still twisted the heart in his chest. It had been like this for days now, weeks even if he assumed that the situation had been the same before he’d arrived from Delhi. The flow of those fleeing West Pakistan’s crackdown on the Bengali in their eastern enclave had begun with a trickle, before ballooning into a flood of countless thousands - if not millions. Like many of his peers, Ayaan had responded to the call for volunteers to help manage the unfurling humanitarian disaster, choosing to put his career on hold and travel eastwards with a group of friends. He’d known that the situation was dire, but it was another thing entirely to see with his own eyes.

And yet, it seemed like the international community had turned a blind eye to it all.

The superpowers of the world, and those great Western powers of Europe, remained mute even as the flow of information out of East Pakistan was ruthlessly silenced. Only the decrepit state of those fleeing the conflict, and their stories of mass killings and forced evictions, conveyed the growing sense of urgency that was afflicting India’s neighbour. India had stepped in to welcome the refugees, but it was hardly a wealthy country itself, and Ayaan knew that the eastern states couldn’t hope to sustain so many needy mouths for long. Something had to change, and it had to change soon.

A blaring horn caused Ayaan to glance up from the crowds. The masses began to part, clearing the road as a line of dark green trucks slowly inched their way forwards. The lead truck’s driver was waving his hand out the window, gesturing for people to make way. The camouflaged canvas covering the vehicle’s bed offered some shade for the uniformed soldiers that sat in the back, their own eyes surveying the crowds as they continued their way towards the eastern border. Ayaan met the gaze of one of the young infantry, with the man offering him a wave as he drove past.

Inwardly, he felt conflicting emotions warring in his chest. This was hardly the first convoy that he’d seen driving through the city, and he doubted that it would be the last. Mobilising an army as large as India’s was not something that could be done quietly, and the nation had made no secret of its support for the Bangladeshi independence movement. Ayaan knew that the status quo was unsustainable, and that his country was planning to act to change it. But even then, was war really the only resolution that they could find?

Pushing the thoughts from his mind, the young man turned back to his task of guiding the refugees. Something had to change, one way or the other.

OFFICIAL TELEGRAM FROM INDIA TO the UNITED STATES OF AMERICA and the UNION OF SOVIET SOCIALIST REPUBLICS

To President Reagan and Premier Kaganovich,
We are unable to stand idly by as the situation in East Pakistan continues to deteriorate. Like our own, I am sure that your intelligence communities can confirm the horrific actions that are taking place at the behest of the Pakistani government towards its own people, with the ongoing refugee crisis within my own nation being emblematic of the severity of this problem. I would like to urge you both, as the caretakers of our current world, to use your positions of strength to support us as we attempt to deal with this humanitarian crisis. The Republic of India even now is sheltering hundreds of thousands of refugees, and there is no end in sight to the numbers fleeing persecution. We would like to formally request that the UN Security Council condemns Pakistan’s actions, and set up a mechanism for aid to be distributed to regions dealing with this international crisis.

FROM PRIME MINISTER Surya Bakshi OF INDIA

OFFICIAL TELEGRAM FROM INDIA TO the UNITED ARAB REPUBLIC

To Premier Gamal Nasser,
With the unfurling crisis in Pakistan, we wish to request that your nation makes a public statement condemning the crackdown in East Pakistan. As a flag-bearer for the Arab world, your policy position carries immense weight and would go along way to making it clear to the world that both of our non-aligned nations will not abdicate our responsibility to contributing towards peace and security within our regions. Once this current climate of national emergency is resolved, we would also be interested in arranging an official meeting between our two leaders, to discuss how we may be able to cooperate and support one another on shared interests.

Flemish-Walloon 1st Airborne Brigade
Stanleyville, Flemish-Walloon Congo

Gunshots rung periodically throughout the provincial capital over New Years, before turning into chattering rapid fire and exploding mortar shells. The Congo Crisis just entering its 10th year without any sign of stopping. While resistance was expected, the local forces and Private Military garrisons managed to hold off the first decade's attack from Free Republican Congolese insurgents after a prolonged engagement. Hours afterwards the dead were being collected, mostly from the insurgent side, as Mirage 5s and Hueys flew overhead soon after in a deafening roar in order to fully route the stragglers that remained nearby Stanleyville.

The Government in Brussels had since mandated an increase of personnel by 50% into the new decade to quell the continued unrest once and for all, or so they claimed. The reality is that the Congo, apart from its obvious use in raw resources and exploitation of the local population, has been purposely used as a breeding ground to test new weapons, counter-insurgency tactics, and harden Flemish-Walloon troops and their mercenaries. The insurrection going on as long as it continues to do so has long been deemed as a profitable venture by the war corporatists that have growing say back in the Benelux. As long as the money keeps flowing in one way or another, the Congolese would certainly never be free from their colonial butchers for a long time.

Colonel Jacobs then landed where his lower command had consolidated from his Huey to access the damages on the 1st Airborne and the city from the attack, quickly being reported that his men hardly suffered much in the way of casualties and only really had some equipment loss and damages that'll need replacements. The PMCs however suffered much more due to their more "Gung-ho" nature in counterattacking the insurgents, having actually cost more damage to the city after closer inspection than the actual insurgent attack as the outlying houses and business continued to burn to the ground.

"Where the hell is that 'Mad Mike?' That son of bitch needs to control his men better before they burn down some investors' or shareholders' neighborhood, it's one thing to demolish a few slums like a house of cards, but burning them? I'm sorry, do we look like our planes carry tanks full of water and not napalm? We're not some goddamned fire department just because some mercs wanna play arsonist." The annoyed Colonel said to his lieutenant after being informed of the collateral damages as they walked into a tent.

Upon entering the tent, Mad Mike Hoare and Siegfried Müller themselves were waiting for him, "Ah good for you to join us, Colonel." Mad Mike said upon his entrance.

"Cut the shit, the hell is your problem using your men to almost burn down half the city? Brussels is gonna wring me a new one if someone important's property burns down to ash." The Colonel then immediately said to him, taking out a cigarette to try and smoke his stresses away before he wanted to snap the mercenary leaders in two.

"Apologies, Colonel, it had started with a few mud-huts and quickly spread along into the nearby slum. Our mutual chemical supplier had asked us to test out their experimental agent, it worked a bit too well." Müller then piped in, clearly covered in ashes, but still the smiling man as always.

"Let me guess, Solvay?" Colonel responded, puffing at his cigarette.

"Wouldn't be the same if it wasn't their product." Müller then laughed morbidly, seemingly enjoying the unintentional carnage, not that the Colonel paid him any mind, given he himself was about to order his own followup airstrikes in the surrounding tree-lines with some nondescript "deforesting" chemical just simply called, Agent Orange.

Léon Degrelle Rally
Brussels, Union of Flanders-Wallonia

Current party hardliners and former Flemish-Walloon SS Legionaries gathered on New Years in the Union's capital to demand as they have been already on a consistent monthly basis since the creation of the R-V Party in the early 1950s, for the safe return of Léon Degrelle back into the Union as its 'rightful' leader of the country. Much to the disdain of Jean Denis, who regarded the former collaborator as a coward who fled to Spain after Germany's defeat in WWII. And brought the Rexist Party on the brink of ruin before Denis managed to keep the political base together just barely enough after leaving prison in 1951. At best he was reluctant to allow the man back into the country, let alone allow the man to resume ruling it the way he did during Nazi collaboration.

Though it's hardly a secret to the Prime Minister that the rallies were being funded by Degrelle himself and even some of his own close political allies, obviously in an attempt to pressure him into finally resigning and allowing Degrelle to assume full control. At least a coup hasn't been attempted yet, but given what he suspects to be Degrelle's growing 'shadowy' influence over the Union, they may not be that far off from it. At least he knows he can placate his more worrisome opposition for now by saying it'll benefit the Union to not antagonized the West, and continue their thinly veiled facade of being a democracy in order to achieve economic and international political benefits. At least that's the gambit the Prime Minister was hedging on currently, but his power seems to wan with each passing day.

"Prime Minister!" His secretary then rushed into his office, "We had reports of shots fired at the Grand Place where the rally was being held!"

"Goddammit, the hell did Degrelle get them to do this time!" The Prime Minister then stood up quickly and rushed into the situation room with his secretary where the present Joint Chiefs of Staff were waiting for him.

Just moments ago, SS Legionaries were accosted by counter-protestors and while reports have been muddled thus far, it's quite clear that the Legionaries used their weapons on them and shot at of the counter-protestors, killing several in a violent clash that then imbrued the Union's Capital as the day went on. Police have attempted to deescalate the situation but currently to no avail. The event quickly became known both in local and international news as Bloody New Years, as the growing tensions quickly started to boil over finally after years of build up.

Léon Degrelle allegedly denied having any involvement over the Brussels Massacre in public circles. But privately he had then called Jean Denis later that night over the phone to warn him that it wouldn't be the last incident if he fails to deliver on the 'demands' of the will of the party.

President Stoph Declares New Foreign Policy
Berlin, GDR

In a speech to the Volkskammer today President Stoph announced a change to the foriegn policy of the GDR. The ten minute long speech given by the president was followed by three hours of deliberations after which the changes where aproved. Among those supportive of the new policy was the Dresden parliamentarian Horst Sindermann and Former President Robet Havemann. The following is an exerpt from President Stoph's speech that explains the major policy change:

"For the last sixteen years, our great nation has relied on the West for it's economic growth, and on the East for it's resources. For the longest time, this agreement worked. Yet the recent oil crisis in the West and the unwillingness of the East to reform has brought this strategy into jeopardy. No longer can the GDR pretend to belong to the West yet bow down to the East. It is undignified for a nation of our kind and it is frankly also an instable political strategy at the moment."

"Taking this into consideration, I have come to a very difficult decision. The GDR must officially request to join the EEC. This will undoubtedly will anger our allies in the Warsaw Pact and COMECOM. However it is a necessary move to preserve the integrity of the GDR's economy and the prosperity of our nation. The recent years have shown that having friends in the right places can be quite benefitial. In applying for EEC membership this will give the GDR a door to the West and allow for further prosperity and economic growth."

"Let it be noted for the record that just becuase the GDR seeks membership in the EEC doesn't mean that the GDR will withdraw from the Warsaw Pact or COMECON. On the contrary in fact. The GDR in the EEC would benefit all nations in COMECON and the Warsaw Pact. Furthermore, membership in the EEC would allow a greater flow of Eastern goods to the West allowing the futher aquisition of hard currency and in turn greater economic benefits for the whole of COMECON and the Eastern Bloc."

The main dissent in the Volkskammer came from the Stalinist organs of the party. The backers of Ulbricht and Stoph who wish to undermine the prosperity aquired by our great nation. It was these vile factions that decried this idea and called it anti-socilalist. Yet when the benfits of the plan are reaped, they will have claimed to support it all along.

Meanwhile the general public and the economy has received the news of the EEC membership aplication quite warmly. Many civilians and buisnesses hope that said membership will allow the GDR to reach new heights of economic performance and prosperity. But only time will tell if the application will be accepted.

New Interflug Services
Dresden, GDR

At 09:30 an Tu-134A took off from Dresden. Several hours later it landed in Moscow. This service by Interflug is the first of it's kind as it gives the rich industrial area of the southern GDR three links to Moscow with the other two being flown by Interflug and Aeroflot from Leipzig. The flights was fully loaded and departed on time with much fanfare from the locals as well as other pilots whith even the Interflug flight from Berlin congradulating the flight to Moscow on it's inagural service.

Upon arrival to Moscow, the airplane deplaned it's passengers and proceeded to return to the GDR for it's next flight. The new service comes on the back of a recent statement by Interflug syaing that global services would be expanded with flights to new destinations to be launched during the summers. Rumor holds these routes may be to the Canary Islands, North Africa and possibly even Greece and Turkey.

Such services would the be revolutionary for the GDR and would be similar to those being practiced in West Germany.

Port Expansion Planed
Rostok, GDR

Plans have been revealed by the GDR Port Authority detailing a M75.000.000 expansion and modernization of port facilities in the north of the GDR. The target cities are Rostok, Schwerin, and the new port in the planned city of Zaisserdorf next to the town of Greifswald. These projects are being pursued to alleviate the traffic jams of goods often associated with the ports in these cities. Rostok has been especially hard hit being the main port of the GDR.

Within five years, all three projects are expected to be complete. Once opened, a further 1,500 containers per hour will be capable of being handled by each of the ports being upgraded. The major benefactors of these upgrades will be the industries in the north of the GDR which are reliant on the ports in the area.

To whom it may concern,

The German Democratic Republic has long been a citical player in the European economy. After 1954, the growth of the GDR can be considered nothing short of an economic miracle. From the literal ruins of nothingness after the little we had was taken by the Soviets, the GDR has turned into a economic powerhuse, the ne plus ultra of Eastenr Bloc nations. And for the longest time, close relations with the west have allowed said growth.

To further this symbiotic relationships, the GDR government has cordially requested to join the EEC. Negotiations may be held wherever is convenient and at the discression of member states. The GDR is more than willing to pay any entry fee necessary and is even willing to make certain, very limited concessions to join the EEC.

Sincerely,
Otto Winzer
Minister of Foriegn Affairs of the GDR

To Vyacheslav Molotov,

Greetings Comrade Molotov! I hope you find yourself in good health and your nation in a good state. As you may have read, the GDR has request entry into the EEC. Rest assured this will not undermine our Warsaw Pact or COMECON membership in any way. The GDR will never leave the Warsaw Pact or COMECON unless the Soviet Union allows it.

Speaking of which, I would like to invite you Comrade Molotov to visit Berlin to discuss relations between our two nations. While our nations are at odds over Comrade Stalin and in what light he should be portrayed, I believe our differences can be solved diplomatically and via civilized discourse.

At your convenience, feel free to visit Berlin. All I request is that you give one day's notice to make sure all the transport logistics are in order for your visit.

Sincerely,
Wilhelm Stoph
President of the GDR

Oil is the blood of this world, of this empire. Without it, the Imperial Federation dies. The old lion succumbing to the passages of time leaving the vulture to feast on its corpse. But the end has yet to arrive, for it’s a new dawn of a new decade. Sir Edward Richard George Heath inherited the office of Prime Minister racked by the pressure of the First Oil Crisis and although it ended a year ago, the effects continue to be felt by the Home Islands and Dominions abroad. In his plan to unite the Imperial Federation into a single state, the Oil question needs to be answered. Lucky for him, the dominions have oil reserves of their own for internal trade. Lucky for the Imperial Federation, one of its dominions has the third-largest oil reserves in the world:

Canada.

While South Africa, Australia, and New Zealand have oil serves for self-sustenance, the oil in Canada would be enough to fuel the entire Imperial Federation and then some. If he gets the drilling started, Sir Edward Heath could cut the IF’s dependence on Arabian oil and continue supporting Israel with retaliatory impunity. If the Lion of Britannia didn’t bow to the Kaiserreich nor the Nazis, then all the more reason for the Imperial Federation to not succumb to the upstarts of Nasser. But first, investments into Canada to make this dream into a reality.
Image

Prime Minister Sir Edward Heath of the Conservative-Federalist Coalition, 1970

The Royal Free Trade Agreement, spawned out of the Imperial Conference in 1960, would help the PM in this massive endeavor. By removing trade barriers between the Dominions and Home Islands and raising tariffs on non-imperial nations, a transition of buying Arabian oil to Canadian oil could be achieved without much fuss. While the USSR can call this mechanism under a different name, it cannot be denied that the British Crown can start investing directly into its dominions.

So in the first week of January, Sir Edward Heath announced the first plan of many in his path of unification: the Imperial Oil Initiative. To remove the lingering effects of the oil crisis, London would begin a series of massive monetary investments to sponsor oil drilling and refining in the dominions. Canada, of course, gets the lion’s share of the funds to begin a massive campaign to expand its petroleum industry. South Africa and Australia gets the 2nd largest set of investments while New Zealand get the smallest.
There is no such thing as peace, only truce between wars

Proposed Treaty of Berlin
  1. Kaiser Wilhelm IV will abdicate from the throne of the Deutsches Kaiserreich. No one will be permitted to succeed his majesty.
  2. the East German Mark shall be exchanged for a West German Mark at a 1:1 ratio
  3. West and East Germany shall unify into a single state, which shall be a republic. Elections shall be held every 4 years from the day of unification.
  4. All East Germans shall be pardoned from any crimes they committed.
  5. The unified Germany shall not have a monarchy
  6. a unified Germany must stay neutral from both NATO and the Warsaw Pact for 30 years.
  7. a unified Germany shall be named the Republic of Germany
Behind the free market lies the iron fist of the state - the one thing I learned from The Blaatschapen, excluding how to say sheep in dutch.
Update: apparently it’s bleating sheep.

Andreas Papanikolaou - Standard-Bearer of the Right?

Image

The Parliament Majority Leader, Andreas Papanikolaou, is only thirty-five years old but he is already considered a hero of the right. After their defeat in the 1967 presidential elections, National Hope looked set to get crushed in the 1968 parliamentary elections. Most believed that they would be unable to hold on to their majority, and that the Liberal Alliance would regain control of the parliament for the first time since 1966. Instead, buoyed by an energetic campaign by Andreas, National Hope not only held to its majority, but also expanded it by one seat.

Confident, easy-going, charismatic, and always smiling, Andreas was able to outshine the other, older and more experienced, National Hope candidates and won the most votes of any candidate - National Hope or Liberal Alliance. Thus, it was no surprise that despite his young age and lack of experience he was voted Parliament Majority Leader. National Hope is hopeful - no pun intended - that Mr. Papanikolaou will help rebrand the party as a modern, center-right force instead of an outdated conservative party, as it has been accused of. Andreas has focused less on social conservatism and anti-communism and more on tax cuts for working-class families and attracting foreign capital.

Andreas now prepares to lead the party forward in the parliamentary elections of 1970, this March. After seven long months of negotiations, he has conceded to the President's tax hike and infrastructure bill but in return he has gained the President's support for a bill that would cut income tax of parents for every new child born, a flagship proposal of National Hope. Buoyed by this success, Andreas hopes to retain his party's majority in parliament and polls show he has a very good chance of doing so.

Some, however, are looking forward to the 1972 presidential elections. While Andreas has signaled that he is satisfied with his role as Parliament Majority Leader, it is no secret that many in the party urge him to be their candidate for the 1972 elections. In both the 1962 and 1967 elections, the Liberal Alliance candidate won the office of President. With a young, charismatic and popular candidate like Andreas, right-wingers hope the presidency will finally become theirs.

Liberal Surprise in Parliamentary Elections?

Image

Parliament Minority Leader Christos Theodorikakos believes that the 1970 parliamentary elections, this March, will see a liberal surprise. "I do believe we are in a very good position to bring down the right-wing's majority," he stated to our reporter. "We have clearly delivered, despite our minority position, our promises to raise taxes on the most wealthy to pay for the modernization of the island. Gavdians will take into account this and shall give us their support, to allow our President to pursue freely his reformist agenda."

A committed progressive liberal, Christos is one of the more experienced members of the parliament. Fifty-two years old, he entered politics in his twenties, serving in the local legislature during the British rule as a leading voice for independence and then getting successively - and easily - elected into the parliament of independent Gavdos since 1962. He has been a long-standing proponent of progressive taxation and aggressive government spending. While he belongs to the center-left wing of the broadly centrist party, he has also been a proponent of closer relations with the Imperial Federation and Greece, while being skeptical of voices in his party calling for closer ties with the Arab states. His mixture of progressive economics, long parliamentary experience and pro-Western views has made him a leading figure among liberals.

"We will win this election," he said confidently. "You shall see. We are in a good position. The right wing is more interested in publicity stunts than actual politics. The people of Gavdos will surely realize this and punish them." Do polls confirm his optimism? Good news for Mr. Theodorikakos is that polls show the Liberal Alliance up and National Hope down. Bad news is that even with this fluctuation, National Hope is expected to retain its majority.

Euro-Pakt Headquarters, Brussels

While the Euro-Pakt's (or more commonly called the EEC) agenda has been greatly influenced by Jean Denis' Government starting in the late 1950s following the R-V Party victory. The organization itself still remains one of the more independent entities from the politics in Brussels, being largely run by the Corporatist faction and more market liberal elements in the Union of Flanders-Wallonia. With membership growing rather steadily throughout the 60s, however membership growth thus far had largely remained under the pretense of being from Western Europe, until now.

President of the Pakt, Jean Rey, perhaps of the last liberal politicians with any sway in the increasingly far-right Union, just received a telegram wired into his office from his secretary, it came from perhaps the most unlikely source of the GDR, East Germany.
Monsone wrote:

Now these pseudo-communists want to join in on the economic bastion of Western Europe? How ludicrous, Rey initially thought. Attempting to wrap his head around why such a proposal was sent his way from the most unlikely place, he was going to have to call the Prime Minister for this for sure.

Picking up the phone on his desk, he dialed Denis. After a few moments the line was picked up.

"This better be good, Rey, I got SS prowling the streets and police who won't do jack shit." A annoyed and tired Jean Denis came on the phone after what was a week of an outbreak of violence throughout the capital and major cities in the Union.

"Well Mr. Prime Minister, it's about East Germany, I just received a telegram that they want to join the EEC, even by limited concessions. We need to call in the representatives of our other member states to put this matter into a vote if you will authorize it." Rey then explained.

"Jesus they want to join our Pakt? Either Kaganovich's sham of a commie union is collapsing faster than we anticipated, or the GDR wants to play with fire. I'll authorize your request for the meeting with our other members, but the most I'll grant East Germany is an observer status by the end of the vote, understood?" Denis then replied, clearly in need of a drink or two after the events that already transpired earlier this week.

"Understood, Prime Minister." Rey then hung up the phone and began to write several telegrams to their respective places.

To: Otto Winzer, Minister of Foriegn Affairs of the GDR

Your request for the GDR has been noted, and a meeting will soon be underway with our member states to discuss and decide the status of the GDR's entry into the EEC and Pakt. A representative from your country to attend this meeting in Brussels is highly recommended.

-President of the Euro-Pakt, Jean Rey

To: EEC/Euro-Pakt Member States

To whom it may concern,

A call for a Pakt meeting has been called in Brussels to discuss with members on the entry of the GDR (East Germany) into the EEC and Euro-Pakt. Representatives from all members are required to attend.

Union of Socialist Soviet Republics

"What the hell are they thinking? Joining the EEC?"

General Secretary Vyacheslav Molotov, chairing a session of the Politburo of the Communist Party in the Kremlin, was clearly not amused.

Premier Lazar Kaganovich nodded in agreement.

"Revisionists, comrade. This is what years of betrayal of the true tenets of Marxism-Leninism will do to a country. It's clear that Berlin has completely lost its way and is following in the footsteps of Tito."

"Precisely, comrade. But we need to play this strategically. If we act rashly, we risk antagonizing the leadership of the German Democratic Republic. And we know that the vultures in this West German "Reich" are just waiting for such an opportunity to enforce an Anschluss of the East."

"On that matter," Minister of State Security, Viktor Abakumov, now spoke. "Have you seen the ridiculous message that the Reich sent, totally out of nowhere? They want to "unite" the two Germanies under one capitalist rule."

"Of course they do," scoffed Molotov. "Those fascists have been plotting for that end ever since they lost the World War. But I must admit I am surprised with how ridiculously brazen their latest attempt has been. Well, comrades, that settles it. I will go to Berlin to speak with Stoph and see what the hell is wrong with him. I might phrase it somewhat better when I get there though."

Official Communiqué of the USSR
To: Wilhelm Stoph, President of the German Democratic Republic

Dearest comrade,

The Soviet Union is surprised and disappointed to hear of the latest turn in GDR foreign policy, which was taken without any prior notification of your allies in the Warsaw Treaty Organisation or COMECON.

Nevertheless, we respect the fundamental right of sovereignty of nations, especially our allies such as the German Democratic Republic.

I gladly accept your invitation to make an official state visit to Berlin for a summit. We are looking forward to meeting with you and speak on the future relations between our two nations.

Sincerely,
Vyacheslav Molotov
General Secretary of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union

Official Statement of the Union of Socialist Soviet Republics

The Union of Socialist Soviet Republics officially condemns the attempts by West Germany to achieve an annexation of the German Democratic Republic into a "united" state under its de facto control.

The USSR is dedicated to the preservation of the post-war order that was established in Eastern Europe to achieve and safeguard peace for the future. Any attempts to destabilise this arrangement will be met with fierce opposition from the Soviet Union.

Official Communiqué from the USSR

The Soviet Union is therefore willing to provide humanitarian aid, both financial as material, to the Republic or India in order to aid in the support to the refugees entering India's eastern provinces. We shall also provide medical personnel to this end.

The USSR will furthermore use its seat in the United Nations Security Council to call Pakistan to order and try achieve an end to the hostilities as soon as possible.

Bonn

The Foreign Affairs Minister has walked into the office of Kaiser Wilhelm IV
“Your Majesty” said the Minister, Otto von Ferdan
“As you were” replied the Kaiser
“Perhaps we should take a different approach to unification” said Von Ferdan
“How so, our plan is working fine, is it not?” Replies Wilhelm.
Minister Von Ferdan shows him the Soviet’s condemnation
“Perhaps we should deal with this more... diplomatically.” Said Wilhelm “Send one to France! To the Soviets! To East Germany! To America! To Britain!”
He is also shown the telegram from Flanders-Wallonia
“That shall be a job for me” Said the Kaiser “now our you go, I have something to do. Send for the Prime Minister, herr.”

Cologne-Bonn Airport

As all the diplomats were taking off to places, the kaiser had arrived to fly to Brussels.
In his private jet, he took off from a runway. A short while later, he landed. He rushed to the place that the EEC would be meeting.

Meanwhile, on the East-West German border, a diplomat had arrived. He was passing through a checkpoint, and allowed through. He showed them his diplomatic papers, and said the Kaiser had sent him to see the East German leader.
Once he arrived, he quickly apologised for the brash attempt at unification.

In Moscow, another Diplomat had arrived, coming to see the Soviet leader. (Apologies I have forgotten several names). He was met with a more hostile and unwilling reception from the Soviets, who apparently still didn’t want West Germans in there premises.
“verdammte sowjetische Idioten sind so sehr narzisstisch. Ich bin kein Nazi” he muttered, while trying to meet with the Soviet Politburo.
Behind the free market lies the iron fist of the state - the one thing I learned from The Blaatschapen, excluding how to say sheep in dutch.
Update: apparently it’s bleating sheep.

Bloody New Years, Brussels
Union of Flanders-Wallonia

The first week into the new decade has been perhaps the most stressful and tense week in the Union's Capital since the R-V Party came to full control of the country in 1958, with parallels to the amount of violence and upheaval experienced over a decade prior. While Gendarmerie have been employed in rapid numbers to quell the unrest, the street violence between the two most prominent factions of the Flemish-Walloon SS Legionaries and the Benelux Liberal Coalition have gone rather unchecked as police have had their hands tied in attempting to keep the peace in the most concentrated parts of the city. After further inspection, it is clear that this outbreak of unrest was a result of years of decay of the democratic process in the Union, and the full-on establishment of Léon Degrelle's own proxy shadow war against Jean Denis' Government.

It was clear now more than ever to the Prime Minister at least that Degrelle was attempting to delegitimatize and pressure him to resign amid a failure to keep the peace in the Union from these largely hired agitators. The last thing he needed now was a potential international incident to happen in his own country that'll finally make the R-V Party declare a motion of no confidence in his ability to lead...

"Prime Minister, you're not going to like this." His secretary then came in with a rather last minute report of the Kaiser of West Germany himself arriving in the Capital to represent the Kaiserreich in the EEC meeting.

"You got to be kidding me, they're sending their own head of state to represent them? Hell send the whole royal family here too at this rate!" Denis was rather astonished and dumbfounded, he couldn't believe the brazen nature of the Kaiser, "This has to be some sort of massive gamble on his part to unite the West and East Germanys, surely?"

"I could only assume so, Sir. His entire agenda is based on reuniting his country, he likely coming here as a big show to test the Soviets." His secretary nodded.

"How many police and Gendarmerie do we have to spare for his motorcade?" Denis started rubbing his forehead to ease his stress, though he already knew the ansewer to his question.

"Not much sir, but if we're quick enough to move him to the Pakt Headquarters, he should be... Largely safe." That pause did not help their case at all, but they likely didn't have a choice in the matter either way.

Streets of Brussels

The Kaiser's motorcade that was accompanied by a rather undermanned amount of police and Gendarmerie vehicles with personnel made their way through the streets to the EEC Headquarters. Making several odd bends and turns along the way throughout the route, having to have been made on short notice and blatantly on the fly given the fact that several whole streets were quite literally being outright occupied or blocked off. If the motorcade had been for someone far less highly profiled to escort, the tension wouldn't have been nearly as high.

While the police detail were quick to reassure the Kaiser that everything was fine, and the city was just going through some, "Minor union protests," and, "Unfortunate amounts of road construction." Some worrying figures were then spotted on the rooftops of buildings after they made a turn into a seemingly less crowded street, that turned out to be a trap, apparent one that seemed as hastily rushed as the motorcade itself.

Wearing SS Legionnaire armbands, the assailants on the rooftops started to open fire on the rooftops of the motorcade with small arms fire, peppering against the Kaiser's admittedly pretty well made bulletproof vehicle rather harmlessly. However the police car in the front of the motorcade didn't fare nearly as well, as the gunfire quickly killed the driver and passenger and actually caught the car on fire as the engine block and gas tank were shredded open from the intense rapid fire from FN FALs.

A set of cars then pulled in on both ends of the motorcade and more SS assailants hopped out, immediately shooting at the vehicles and attempting to block both of their exits. As the ambush became well underway, it quickly boiled into a full blown urban firefight as police and Gendarmerie returned fire and made a rush into the cover. The Kasier's car and own security detail was probably the most safe vehicle to hide in, but it's clear that him and his personal escorts were trapped until backup could arrive.

"Central, this is Escort One, we've been stopped and attacked while on route to the EEC! We got SS on the roofs and streets, and got wounded and KIAs, we are in need of backup ASAP, Over!" The Gendarmerie Sergeant hurriedly reached into the radio of his armored vehicle, as more gunfire peppered his vehicle.

"What's the status on the VIP, Escort One, Over?" A response quickly crackled in as a explosion of sorts from a crude bomb rocked a police car over a fiery blaze in the back of the motorcade.

"He's in his car still, status unconfirmed, Central-" A bullet then ricocheted into the Sergeant's neck, leaving him to quickly drown in a crimson pool of his blood by the radio.

"Escort One come in? Escort One!" Central tried to radioed back but no response was given...

The Kaiser looked worringly into the streets of brussels. He rubbed his head.
'Christ' he said 'It looks like a battle. Do we have any weapons?'
suddenly, assistant pushed him out of the way and slumped onto the floor in a pool of blood. The kaiser shrieked. another assistant peered over 'it appears that he has been shot' she said
'I will attend her funeral' replied the kaiser. The head of the Imperial Guard looked back at them. 'we might not be able to make it through this path' he said 'we may need to turn around'
the kaiser turned around 'WE MUST CROSS THIS STREET!' he shouted 'WE MUST SHOW THAT WE AREN'T AFRAID OF TERRORISTS!'
he quickly turned and whispered into assistants ear 'this is probably the doing of the belgians' he said'
at that moment, a grenade landed near the car and blew up, throwing the car into the air and back down.

Schönhausen Palace, Berlin

Erich Honecker and Wilhelm Stoph where reading the news reports from Brussels as well as the letter from the USSR and the one from the EEC. The two men where to say the least, shocked, confused, and relieved all at the same time. The letter from the EEC was encouraging to say the least and the one from the USSR was never-wracking.

As Stoph sipped some coffee, Honecker sighed and put down the letter from the EEC. Once Stoph put his coffee cup down, Honecker began to speak.

"Do you want me to deal with the EEC?" He asked.

"If you want to. Though the violence in Brussels is disconcerting." Stoph answered.

"I trust that our security services can deal with some rabble-rousers if the need arrises." Honecker answered confidently.

"If possible, you could just take a helicopter from the airport to the meeting spot." Stoph suggested as Honecker sipped some coffee.

"That might not be a bad idea. The issue then is how to get a helicopter to Brussels." Honecker stated.

"I'll let you deal with it as you wish." Stoph stated as he then proceeded to sip some coffee.

"What about the letter from Molotov?" Asked Honecker.

"He acts suprised that we didn't notify COMECON and the Warsaw Pact before hand. As if we could have! The proposal could have very well have been shot down in the Volkskammer and that would be the end of it." Stop sneered.

"The Soviets have no respect for due process or democracy. Look at Budapest in '56 or Prague in '68. The GDR by definition is the anomaly, and that is only thanks to the NVA threatening to start and all out war to keep Peck and Ulbricht from having the Soviets intervene." Honecker told Stoph.

"Then again Molotov did agree to come to Berlin." Stoph chimed in.

"To depose you no doubt. The Soviets will have their troops on high alert when Molotov arrives. Keep the NVA at war readiness levels for the whole summit in case something goes wrong." Honecker stated as Stoph noded in agreement.

"So our responses to the letters?" Asked Stoph.

"Those are up to you. I have a lunch meeting with the mayor of Berlin in thirty minutes and I must leave now to mkae it on time." Honecker stated as he got up.

"See you later." Stoph stated.

"Certainly." Honecker replied as he put on a fedora and a heavy winter coat.

Inter-German Border

Once the West German diplomat had crossed into East Germany, a black Moskvitch M-412E began to follow the car from a distance. Inside the vehicle rode two plain clothed Stasi agents. Their job was to monitor the West German diplomat from affar. The dipolmat's car stood out like a sore tumb amidst the Wartburgs, Moskvitches, FSO/Polski-Fiats, and other cars from the Eastern Bloc. In fact, the Stasi Moskvitch blended in perfectly.

Diplomatic Cable to the USSR
To:Vyacheslav Molotov, General Secretary of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union

Estemed comrade,

There was no way of knowing that the proposal to join the EEC would have passed in the Volkskammer. Needless to say, prior notification does not need to be given when regarding the dealings between two sovereign states. It should be noted that the GDR has the capability to engage in diplomatic negotiations as it is a sovereign state.

However, the statement that the USSR respects the fundamental rights of sovereign nations is something I personally disagree with. I need to merely asky my predecessor what happened to him, or I can ask any citizen of Hungary and Czehcoslovkia and they too can tell me otherwise. And that is just the problem.

At the summit in Berlin reform and change must be discussed. But not change for the GDR, but instead change for the USSR and the Eastern Bloc as a whole. For too long has the grip of Stalin's power gripped nations like the USSR, China, Poland, etc. Change is overdue; and the GDR has proven that change can occur not only sucesfully, but also while maintaining the political status quo.

Respectfully,
Wilhelm Stoph
President of the GDR

Diplomatic Cable to the EEC
To: Jean Rey, President of the Euro-Pakt

Mr. Rey,

First I must say thank you for accepting the GDR's request to possibly join the EEC.

Prime Minister Honecker has requested to go and represent the GDR at the EEC meeting. For his safety, would it be possible to fly a helicopter to the headquarters of the EEC, or is road transport the only meathod of reaching the headquarters?

Sincerely,
Otto Winzer

Bloody New Years, Brussels
Union of Flanders-Wallonia

This situation was by any stretch a complete disaster, one only mitigated by the fact that the unrest hasn't spilled over out of the Union's Capital, at least for now. The Kaiser's status was completely unknown to the EEC and Prime Minister after they just lost contact with the escort, and they're expected to protect and escort more representatives from member nations to the EEC's Headquarters at any rate!

Reports were also coming in of more escalation in the intensity and number of street battles taking place in the city, apparently even reported sightings of vintage WWII vehicles being used after a recent break in from the history museum by SS Legionaries wearing their old regalia. It was the Battle of Belgium all over again.

"Sir, the Party is already calling for your immediate resignation if you cannot get the situation under control in time. And the EEC still has no word of any sightings from the Kaiser." His secretary listened intently in his emergency radio channels on the Prime Minister's behalf, who himself was scrambling to get the 1st and possibly even 2nd Infantry Divisions to march into the Capital to bring peace in what was likely a full-blown uprising that was quickly developing.

"Dammit, I don't have time to deal with their political games, I need the Kaiser alive and at his meeting, stat! Did they Joint Chiefs of Staff get my order yet for martial law?"

"Yes, Sir. But I have a feeling they're stalling for time, they're only trickling in detachments at a... Modest rate at the moment." The Secretary was bracing himself for the gasket Denis was about to blow.

"Those sons of a bitches are in on it too!? Tell them to send in all their forces immediately or I'll court marshal for treason!"

"Right away, Sir." He quickly getting on some channels for returning to look at his Prime Minister. "Sir, I think it's no coincidence that the Kaiser's motorcade was intercepted... I think someone tipped off the terrorists, someone within our own Union."

"Then Degrelle has definitely have our Government fully compromised then. Dammit, we're going to have to do some 'spring cleaning' when this is done and taken care of." Denis wasn't subtle at all at what he was implying had to be done.

"Yes, Sir, understood." The secretary returned to radioing in to the necessary channels.

Streets of Brussels

The once quaint streets of the Benelux city have quickly turned into a active war zone, as dead and wounded bodies from both the SS and police lay on the ground as gunfire was exchanged all around. The Kaiser's vehicle was soon targeted in full force as more SS Legionaries converged on the street where the motorcade had been trapped with wreckage blocking their more obvious exits.

After the grenade rocked the Kaiser's car, another SS Legionnaire from the rooftops fired what could only be described as a cheap post-war knockoff of a Panzerfaust directly down into the car's engine block, blowing a hole straight into the hood and causing sparks and some belches of flame to fly out of the newly formed hole. More than like destroying the engine and leaving the car dead in the water.

As more and more policemen and Gendarmerie were shot dead or left grievously injured, the SS Legionaries soon fully surrounded the motorcade and the Kaiser's car, shooting out the tires for extra measure. The survivors of Escort One quickly forced to surrender, leaving the Kaiser with only his Imperial Guard to protect him.

After attempting to shoot out the windows with their rifles to no avail, one of the SS Legionaries soon came with a hydraulic rescue tool, or more commonly called the Jaws of Life, in an attempt to violently rip out the door to the Kaiser's car and get to the head of state directly.

To: Otto Winzer, Minister of Foriegn Affairs of the GDR

Mr. Winzer,

It'll be in good interest for Prime Minister Honecker to fly in directly to the EEC's Headquarters in Brussels via helicopter upon landing in Brussels as you suggested at this time. We'll have arrangements for a air-wing detachment of the 1st Airborne Brigade to escort him as well in order to assure his safety, thank you for understanding our current predicament, Minister.

From the car now surrounded by knockoff SS, the Kaiser was trying to stay alive. He reached over for a radio, and immediately radioed the Prime Minister, alerting him that they were surrounded.
He needed assistance.
From the back of the car he was able to reach for a machine gun, but only barely as he was nearly shot in the hand.
He could not move his right arm to well. It appeared it had been dislocated. He lowered the window of the vehicle, somewhat stupidly, and quickly opened fire before closing the window. He took a bullet to the shoulder, but had taken out 2 SS.
He shook to see if his driver was still alive, and grabbed a rifle. The only 2 weapons that were on the motorcade.
The driver woke up, and he handed him a rifle. He told him to shot as many as he could.
Even though they were without military access, and the action was likely to be condemned, the 1st Infantry Division entered the Benelux.
The Imperial Guard we’re making a stand but slowly being chipped away, and it was looking bleak. Suddenly, as they were being pushed back, the Kaiser shoved on a helmet and something to protect his chest and got out.
He started shooting for his life.

Bloody New Years, Streets of Brussels
Union of Flanders-Wallonia

While casualties mounted against the assaulting SS Legionaries from the Kaiser's Imperial Guard and even the Kaiser himself, the attack was undeterred however due to the sheer ferocity and advantage of numbers the terrorists possessed. As the Kaiser adorn a helmet, he was quickly shot at once more, with another two bullets striking his chest and shoulder, barely alive in all likelihood, but clearly down for the count. The Imperial Guard's position was then rocked once again from a onslaught of crude explosives before they then rounded up on their exposed flanks and were shot at viciously from their assailants.

After the firefight was pretty much over after the stragglers were mopped up and executed, the Kaiser was quickly identified and forcibly knocked out through the butt-end of a rifle. With black bag tied over his head and wrist bonded, the worst of his wounds being tended to by a field medic. His unconscious body was then being carried away by his attackers, along with his surviving assistants and driver who also had their heads covered and tied and wrists bonded, were brought into a unmarked van which they were then unceremoniously thrown in. "If your Kaiser dies, so will the rest of you, treat his wounds with this." A SS Legionnaire then tossed in some dirty rags and packets of table salt for his surviving assistants and driver to help 'tend' to the rest of their leader's wounds, before the obvious psychotic then laughed hysterically at the cruel situation he left them in, quickly slamming the back of the the van's doors shut on them and leaving them in heated darkness to add insult to injury. The van then drove off, their location now unknown and off the record as they've been kidnapped.

A 1st Airborne Brigade Huey then searched the area not long after the SS Legionaries had dispersed into the chaos of the rest of the streets below, but the only clue of the Kaiser that could be found below was the now destroyed and burned out motorcade, at least the Kaiser's corpse wasn't spotted, but they were clearly too late, he was officially missing.

Office of the Prime Minister, Brussels

Jean Denis couldn't believe what had just transpired over the course of a day, it was like a living nightmare, he would be rather surprised if he wasn't immediately removed from office by his military Generals at any moment. With the Kaiser missing and his accompanying motorcade massacred, he was going to have to face the music for sure with the Council of Ministers. Degrelle had just won, Denis' political career was disgraced beyond measure.

Hearing footsteps coming up into his office, Denis prepared himself mentally for the worse. As expected both his secretary and Joint Chiefs of Staff came in through the doors, "Sir, we got a problem." One of them then immediately said to him upon entering.

"Yes I know, I accept my request to resign." Denis then stood up with some level of dignity left.

"Actually, Sir, it's not about that yet, the Council will decide your fate later in that area. We got a whole new situation brewing however at the border, a German division had just entered despite not waiting for a response on our part." The General then explained.

"What? Are they insane? Well I'll have them know if they don't return back to Germany right away I will fully intend to invoke Article 5 and get full NATO involvement in the region! It'll make the Battle of the Bulge look like a picnic! Scramble the Air Component, send what Divisions and Brigades we have in the country to the border at once!" Denis was absolutely livid and flabbergasted at this point, "To hell with the Kaiser and his mockery of a Kasierreich, send them a message at once in a form of a Ultimatum!"

"Yes Sir, right away." His staff then rushed out to deliver on his commands.

From: The Office of the Prime Minster of the Union of Flanders-Wallonia.
To: The Office of Prime Minister Josef Schmitt of the Kaiserreich

Cease and desist with your attempted 'excursion' into the Union at once, or we'll be forced to invoke Article 5 of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization and formally declare war over your attempted invasion and blatant violation of our sovereignty. The situation in Brussels is being handled as we speak and units that were being sent to pacify it in its entirety have now have their original orders delayed due to your recklessness. This is your first and final warning, we will not be pushed around.

-Prime Minister Jean Denis of the Union of Flanders-Wallonia

Benelux-German Border

Mirage 5 Fighter Jets were the first to scrambled into skies quickly upon the report of West German forces entering into the country, invoking harrowing memories of 1940 to the locals at the border. The 3rd and 4th Infantry Divisions were quickly mobilizing in full force along with the reserve Legions to the border. Though elements from all 5 of the motorized and armored Divisions and Brigades were the first to arrive with their available forces in the Benelux region to meet the German Forces head on after they were several miles into the Union, meeting them right at the first layer of prepared defensive lines that were originally meant for a Soviet invasion, not another surprised German one. Obviously the border guards couldn't do much to stop a whole division of German troops earlier, so have elected to as well regroup into the first fallback line.

Preparing for the rapidly made defense, the General of it, Albert Crahay radioed into Command that they were however more than ready to deal with the Germans head on. However he was at first instructed to deliver one first and final message to the German force ahead to either stop and turn back, or the Flemish-Walloon forces will be authorized to engage the invaders.

"This is a final warning and ultimatum, turn back, I repeat, turn back, or we will engage." The General's radio message, being used on NATO military channels that the West Germans also have, was sent to them and repeated a second time.

From the radio, the Minister of War responded ‘we are here to collect the leader of our country. We have no means to invade. We will not fight. We do not have weapons. The division is unarmed. But we will withdraw, just give us our goddamned kaiser.’
return him to us, now.
We will pay money or send our army to slaughter your people. Hand him over, NOW.

Benelux-German Border
Flemish-Walloon Defensive Line

Despite the rather ghastly disregard and severe violation of the Union's sovereignty at the hands of their supposed West German "Allies," General Albert Crahay held off on ordering a counterattack on the withdrawing backs of the German dogs who had just moments ago threatened to kill their people in cold blood due to a terrorist incident in the Capital of Brussels. At least from what was interpreted from the communique that was sent out throughout the country.

"Record that and send it to the US at once, I want President Reagan to know what 'allies' he has in West Germany." The General then quickly ordered and planned to send first to the US forces present in Europe.

The General also didn't believe for a second that the German forces were unarmed, as what sort of blatant ruse were they attempting to employ here? They think the Flemish-Walloon military were that daft, or did they idiotically not actually equip their own men at all? The General was still trying to wrap his head around that part.

"Make sure they actually withdraw from our country in full too, tell the fighter squadrons and Huey crews to make as many aggressive flybys as they can to convince our West Germans to get the hell out of the Union as fast as possible." The General then ordered to his subordinates.

Moments later several Mirage 5s and Hueys made very close runs over the heads of the withdrawing West German forces, making it very clear to them that they weren't welcomed into the Union at all.

Supreme Headquarters Allied Powers Europe, Casteau, Flanders-Wallonia

Supreme Allied Commander Europe Andrew Jackson Goodpaster was sitting in his office reviewing paperwork for routine NATO troop movements when his phone rang. Lazily picking it up he was quickly taken aback as the aid on the other end explained the rapidly changing situation occurring between the German and Belgian forces. After listening to the whole story thus far, Goodpaster slammed the phone down as e though to himself Children. I am surrounded by children!

Grabbing the phone again he dialed the number for the White House. After a few minutes of a wait, the operator connected Goodpaster to POTUS. Hearing President Reagan say "This is POTUS." Goodpaster started explaining the situation to him. Concluding the story of events, he then asked "With your permission sir, I would like to send a MP Platoon to the conflict zone to ensure that the withdraw continues in an ordely manner and to start compiling an incident report." After a brief moment the President agreed and the call was ended.

Lieutenant Dan Band was in the lead convoy of Humvees that had departed the NATO HQ not long ago. He and his MPs were used to simply providing security for the SACE and HQ but today would apparantly be a field day for him and his platoon of MPs. Arriving at the line of Union troops, Lt. Band exited his vehicle and made his way up to the highest ranking officer he saw, that being a General and said "General my name is Lt. Band. I have been dispatched here on the orders of President Reagan and General Goodpaster to help resolve and investigate this incident sir."

Rosenbad, Stockholm, Sweden
Prime Minister Adam Wahlgren was looking at a TV, which displayed a news report about the conflict between Flanders-Wallonia and West Germany. He has seen that history will repeat itself and no difference will be made, regardless of the choices that national leaders make. Being the leader of the Swedish Patriotic State Party (Swedish: Sveriges Patriotiska Statsparti), also known as the "Patriots", Adam is determined to have Sweden take a different path and distance itself from the world's rival blocs. He is determined to turn Sweden into an economic powerhouse, expand the armed forces, regain Åland and promote the interests of the common people. On the other hand, the EEC might present itself as an obstacle to Sweden's economic agenda. As such, Sweden is unlikely to join the EEC, unless the EEC would allow Sweden to maintain control of its own economy.

The current objectives of Sweden (as set up by the Patriots)
  • Transform Sweden into an economic powerhouse (by eradicating poverty and joining the oil industry).
  • Implement an economic system that is neither capitalist, socialist nor fascist.
  • Regain Åland from Finland.
  • Expand the Swedish Armed Forces (Krigsmakten).
  • Distance Sweden from NATO, COMECON and EEC (albeit still retain good relations with Norway when it comes to oil).
  • Promote the interests of the "common people".
  • Modernize the Swedish infrastructure.
  • Avoid armed conflicts (especially the one between Flanders-Wallonia and West Germany).

Benelux-German Border
With there being no point in a unarmed division actually going into another country, they quickly withdrew.
The second, armed, infantry division quickly came to the border. As Belgian jets started flying in the air, air-cover was something lacked.
The German infantry did not move forwards, however they maintained a line right next to the border. The Top General for the 1st-4th infantry had claimed the the beneluxians didn’t have a clue of what they were doing, and letting terrorists run a mock in their country. If Germany wished to they could send hell to Flanders-Wollania. Slowly, more divisions would be arriving.
As the NATO MPs arrived, everything slowly got back to normal, though there were still 2 countries on the verge of war.

What the hell do you think you are doing?! You have basically declared war on us here!
We are trying to suppress the rebel scum, and apparently you can’t because we have a division on your border! A DIVISION! Even a rabbit wouldn’t be so scared.

can you please tell the goddamned Belgians we aren’t actually invading their country, rather trying to get back our Kaiser? They seem to be to frightened that an ally would be invading them, a move we aren’t stupid enough to do ourselves.

Für das Vaterland,
Karl Dönitz, jr.

Office of the Prime Minister, Tokyo
Eisaku Satō sat at his desk, reviewing the paperwork. Japan wasn't involved in the world-shocking happenings of the time, so the news Satō got was rather weird to him. A Tennō was possibly murdered in Brussels? Pakistan beginning a genocide? It was weird to Eisaku, who was born in a country with an immense respect in the Tennō. A country which would immediately be invaded by the US when it attempted a genocide of some sorts.
Speaking of the US, they still occupied Okinawa, the most southern island of Japan [*]. Of course the Japanese wanted to change that. Satō had made it no secret he was opposed to the situation. Thus he sent a telegram to his ally. Also, he sent a letter of support to India.

To the Secretary of Foreign Affairs of the United States of America.
Greetings. As you know, the United States have been occupying Okinawa since the Potsdam Conference. We are convinced this is only a temporary occupation. Can we have a summit to discuss the situation and possible change of ownership of Okinawa?
With regards,
Kiichi Aichi, Minister of Foreign Affairs.

To the Minister of Foreign Affairs of India.
Greetings. We have heard of the deplorable situation in your country. We will certainly protect you in the United Nations. We can unfortunately help you materially, as we have a crisis on hand. We hope you understand.
With regards,
Eisaku Satō, Prime Minister of Japan.

[*]: In real life, Okinawa was transferred in 1969, with the Americans however leaving some bases across the province. I assume this to not happen. Monsone or the guy playing the US can correct me.
Only in unity can man survive. So we enforce unity at all costs.
