A LAND TO CALL OUR OWN
The Story of the Alawite Caliphate

”Our forces are now entirely ready not only to repulse the aggression, but to initiate the act of liberation itself”
Hafez al-Assad
The Alawites are an offshoot of the Twelver branch of Shiite Islam that comprise 12-15% of Bilad al-Sham's population, or about 2 million people. They mainly live in the mountainous areas of Latakia on the northwestern coast, where they constitute almost two-thirds of the population. In the Caliphate, the Syrian Alawites are part of the broader Alawite population who live between northern Lebanon and southern-central Turkey. While not purely doctrinally Shi'ite, Alawites hold Ali (d. 661), who is considered the first Imam by the Shiites (and the fourth caliph by the Sunnis), in special reverence.
Tired of persecution under the Abbasid Caliphate, which rivals even the suffering of the Christians, the more orthodox sects of Shiism, and the Druzes, the Alawites have decided to create a homeland of their own, free from the Abbasid oppressors.
Will you fight alongside the Alawites under Bashar Al-Assad? Or will you fly the black banners, and defend the Abbasid Caliphate?
