Are there chaplains?: Yes, for the Army, Navy/Marines, and Air Force
Which religion(s) are chaplains selected from?: Anglican, Other Protestant Faiths (there are several selected here), Catholic, Orthodox, Judaism, Islam, Hinduism, Sikhism, and Humanism; the latter is technically not a religion but allows for non-believers and agnostics to have their community in the armed services.
How many chaplains are there?: about 5000
Does your nation have Chaplain-Generals? Yes, the Chaplain-General of the Royal North American Army Chaplains' Department is head of the Army's chaplain services. The Royal North American Air Force Chaplains Branch is headed by a RNAAF Chaplain-in-Chief, and the Royal North American Navy has a Chaplain of the Fleet who heads the RNAN Chaplaincy Service.
Is their only one or more than one (for example one for each religion)?: Technically no, but there is an Assistant Chaplain-General and Senior Chaplains to the Army for each of the religions that are selected from, and there is a rotation of the Chaplain-General and Assistant Chaplain-General appointments every five years among the religions. The same for the RNAAF's Chaplain-in-Chief, Principal Chaplain to the RNAAF, and the Senior [Religion] Chaplains to the RNAAF. The RNAN Chaplaincy Service has a Deputy Chaplain to the Fleet and Senior [Religion] Chaplains to the RNAN that also practices the rotation among the religions.
How are Chaplains selected?: After going through officer cadet training for their service branch, to be considered for appointment to related service chaplaincy the related top religious authority in the NAU must endorse the officer who wants to be a chaplain. The President-General then reviews the endorsement and other qualifications (completion of military college) and then appoints the officer to the respective service and religion's chaplaincy.
What is the role of a chaplain?: They provide religious services for large groups and individual religious consultation if need be. While Chaplains are to be saluted on formal occasions as they hold a rank, chaplains do not have executive authority.
Other information: Chaplains have their service's respective officer rank for chaplains but no executive authority other than over other chaplains in their service. Chaplains are considered under NAU and UC military law and regulations to be non-combatants like military medical service personnel, only allowed to use their weapons in self-defense. The Navy's Chaplaincy Service also provides for the Marines, and in general the general service branch chaplaincy also covers their respective reserves's spiritual needs.

All of the NAF service branches use Chaplain Divisions as the relative ranking system for their chaplaincy services:
Service Chaplain Division 1: Army Captain, Air Force Flight Lieutenant, Navy Lieutenant
Division 2: Army Major, Air Force Squadron Leader, Navy Lieutenant-Commander
Division 3: Army Lieutenant-Colonel, Air Force Wing Commander, Navy Commander
Division 4 (aka Senior Chaplains or Senior Chaplains to the Service): Army Colonel, Air Force Group Captain, Navy Captain
Division 5 (aka Assistant Chaplain-General, Principal Chaplain to the RNAAF, Deputy Chaplain to the Fleet: Army Brigadier, Air Force Air Commodore, Navy Commodore
Head of Service Chaplaincy: Chaplain-General (Army Major-General), RNAAF Chaplain-in-Chief (Air Vice Marshal), Chaplain to the Fleet (Rear Admiral)

There is also a North American Forces Religious Advisory Committee that provides joint-service coordination on religious needs of the NAF service members. It consists of the Army's Chaplain-General, the RNAAF's Chaplain-in-Chief, the RNAN's Chaplain to the Fleet, and the Senior Chaplains to the Service (the leader of a religion's chaplains in a service branch).

Senior Chaplains are like a unit's leader of chaplains, particularly for large formations like regiments.

An alt-history version of an America that peacefully avoided the American Revolution (Turtledove's "The Two Georges"), mixed with some of Sobel's "For Want of a Nail" and a lot of the anthology "Columbia and Britannia".

Real world territories that I am using: contiguous US, Alaska, Canada, British West Indies, Bermuda, and Baja California. Hawaii is an associated state. The NAU is a federal constitutional monarchy.

I don't use NS stats except for NS governmental policies (basic policies of course), and classification (I'm somewhat of a SuperCanada). MT+. In-Character/RP name: North American Union (NAU). IC/RP main supranational IGO: United Commonwealth of Nations.

Radiatia, being constitutionally atheist, does not have military chaplains.

While today if a soldier is religious they're generally left alone to practice their faith in private, although in the past religiosity was considered a sign of mental illness and sometimes if a soldier is banging on about religion too much they may find themselves discharged on mental health grounds.

In Gatorland, military chaplains are provided by the Warrior Priest Corps. This is the military arm of the Imperial Church, where deacons complete two years service before being sent to a parish or staying on on the corps. As well as being a combat unit, the warrior priests minister to the regular troops they serve alongside. Some units also act as guards for key cathedrals and shrines.

Certain members of the corps are assigned as Riot Priests to the MARS units. They carry out a tactical role as well as preaching to IJC members.

Are there chaplains?: Yes
Which religion(s) are chaplains selected from?: Mostly Christianity, but there are also Muslim, Jewish, and a few other religions too, plus a nondenominational chaplain
How many chaplains are there?: 12,000 or thereabouts, roughly 1% of the military or 1 for every 100 troops
Does your nation have Chaplain-Generals? Not specifically, but you can be both a chaplain and a general
Is their only one or more than one (for example one for each religion)?: one for each religion
How are Chaplains selected?: Volunteer for the position
What is the role of a chaplain?: lead religious services, help boost morale, perform last rites if necessary
Other information: Chaplains are trained like all other soldiers, and just like all other soldiers, they are riflemen first and foremost. We have no qualms about deploying chaplains in combat if it is necessary, just like we have no qualms about deploying logistics personnel or even the chef.
Don’t use NS stats except for changes in economics, political freedoms, or civil rights which may eventually make their way into written canon if I get tired of worldbuilding.

Are there chaplains?: Yes
Which religion(s) are chaplains selected from?: Christianity, Islam, Judaism, Zoroastrianism, Mithraism, Hinduism, Jainism, Buddhism, Chinese Folk Religion, Shintoism, Druidism, Ancient Greek religion, Kemetism, Norse religion, Satanism, et al (In other words, yes.)
How many chaplains are there?: I'm too lazy to count.
Does your nation have Chaplain-Generals? Yes, but they're not called that.
Is their only one or more than one (for example one for each religion)?: Some religions have more than one, some have one, some have none.
How are Chaplains selected?: Depends on the religion, but usually by appointment or promotion.
What is the role of a chaplain?: The chaplain is to provide religious services to troops. Sometimes, they also provide (usually support-type) magical support.
Other information: Some peerages and brave saint teams have their own chaplains. For example, Issei Hyōdō's peerage has his bishop, Asia Argento, be the peerage chaplain.

The Army of DxD is an army tasked with defending the world from supernatural threats that aim to bring chaos to or destroy it. It is, for the most part, neutral in human politics (though it does slightly favour NATO), but will actively try to prevent a world war, and, in a war, will take a side if its bases, puppet territories and/or concessions are attacked enough.

Are there chaplains?: Yes the Thermodolian Unified Chaplain Corps provides chaplain services for the entire military
Which religion(s) are chaplains selected from?: Thermodolian Christianity, Anglican, Roman Catholic, Other Christian Faiths, Judaism, Islam, non-religious, and other religions (Thermodolian Pagan Religions and minority religions)
How many chaplains are there?: 35,000
Does your nation have Chaplain-Generals? Yes but it’s not called that and there’s only one. The Chaplain-Director heads the Unified Chaplain Corps
Is their only one or more than one (for example one for each religion)?: No but there are 8 Lead Chaplains who are directly under the Chaplain-Director and there is one for each of the six major religions plus non-religious and other religions.
How are Chaplains selected?: Chaplains must be approved by their respective religion/religious group and undergo a 6 week Military Chaplains Training Course. All Chaplains are required to swear that they will respect all other religions and non-religious, must not show favoritism towards their own religion, must not proselytize while acting as a chaplain, and must issue a non-denominational prayer at major command events if asked. Failure to take the oath/failure to adhere to these rules will result in an immediate discharge.
What is the role of a chaplain?: They provide religious services for large groups, individual religious support, troop morale, and other matters. Chaplains have no military authority.
Other information: Chaplains are forbidden from using any sort of weapon, joining in any combat, and taking any sort of military command.

Because chaplains are forbidden from using a weapon even in self defense they are always accompanied by a chaplain aide when they are in a hostile area. A chaplain aide is a member of the military branch to which the chaplain is assigned who’s duty it is to protect and assist the chaplain.

While chaplains are able to wear the uniform of whatever branch they are assigned to they are only allowed to hold one of four special chaplain ranks. This rank system was put in place so that no member of the armed forces would feel that the chaplain would out rank them.

The ranks are as follows:
Chaplain-Director
Lead Chaplain
Senior Chaplain
Chaplain

Lead Chaplains and Senior Chaplains only have authority over chaplains which are in their respective religious group. For example a catholic senior chaplain only has authority over catholic chaplains and not a Thermodolian Christian chaplain.

There is an exception to this rule as the Lead Chaplain for Other Religions is able to exercise authority over all other religions due to their small numbers. However the same rules still apply to any senior chaplains within the other religions group.

In addition the 8 Lead Chaplains plus the Chaplain-Director make up the Military Religious Advisory Committee which deals with any issues regarding the chaplaincy

Are there chaplains?:
Yes for the Three Main Apparati of the State and the Counter Instruments of the State: the Military (Active, Reserve, Support), National Police (POLFOR & POLFLT), Ministry of State Security (MOSS), Expeditionary Forces & Fleets (Ministry of Foreign Affairs), Republican Guards (Ministry of Home Affairs), Interior Troops (Ministry of Internal Affairs), Merchant Marines, Ministry of Health, and all Higher Education institutions.
Which religion(s) are chaplains selected from?:
Islam, Catholicism, Orthodox, Judaism, Hinduism, Buddhism, Confucianism, Atheism (Humanitarianism).
How many chaplains are there?:
25,000
Does your nation have Chaplain-Generals?
Yes, Chaplains-Marshal for Armed Forces and Chaplains-Admiral for Armed Fleets
Is their only one or more than one (for example one for each religion)?:
MORA (Ministry of Religious Affairs) consists of various Departments corresponding to each religion. A Chaplain-Marshal/Admiral holds the highest Advisory Rank in each of their Departments. The Departments move independently (near-Ministration Level), thus they each have their own highest-ranking Chaplain Commissar.
How are Chaplains selected?:
A Chaplain Candidate submits an application to the Comgen HQ which will be forwarded to the Ministry of Religious Affairs. The MORA would issue a thorough investigation on the candidate's Religious knowledge and Civics & Nationalism's trend of scores through submitted documents and interviews. If the Candidate's knowledge of their religion is above average during pre-exam, they may be commissioned immediately as Chaplains. If not, they will be schooled in Religious Military Schools corresponding to their religion's department in MORA, whereupon graduation, they will be commissioned as a chaplain and stationed to a unit afterward.

A very rare way to become a Chaplain is through Frontline Witnesses, three independent higher-ranking Commissars and an Inspector-Commissar of differing religions may set up a Tribunal to evaluate a Commissar's Specialty without paperwork commissions, for which they will report to HQ or their nearest and highest (in order of hierarchy) Command Center / Commissariat afterward.
What is the role of a chaplain?:
A Chaplain is not a standalone position, it's an intellectual specialty of the Republic's Commissariat-General. Every Chaplain is a Commissar, but not every Commissar is a Chaplain.
Other information:
- A similar role for civilians working in the Civil Services are Ad. Monitors (Administrative Monitors), colloquially known as Admonitors. Commonly, an Admonitor is under the supervision of a Chaplain Candidate as part of the candidate's evaluation exam.

- A Parachaplain is a parachutist Chaplain deployed alongside Airborne units, similar to a Paracommissar, a Paramedic, a Paralegal, etc.

- An Archaplain is a designated head for a regional military district's religious affairs for one religion. On independently deployable units (unattached to a region), Archaplain is simply the highest (or most senior, if there exists more than one Chaplain of the same rank) Chaplain in the highest formation below a Division.

Are there chaplains?: No, we have no military and also have a very strict policy of separation of church and state

Does your nation have Chaplain-Generals? N/A
Is their only one or more than one (for example one for each religion)?: N/A
How are Chaplains selected?: N/A
What is the role of a chaplain?: N/A
Other information: We have no military, but the humanitarian missions organized by the government allow religious leaders supported fully by donors (and with an income equal to the bottom tenth percentile of their donors) to go, provided that they do not try to proselytize whom who does not consent to listen. Full-time religious leaders and full-time philosophical/political activists/lobbyists have strict regulations on their income (fully-supported by donors excepting medical treatment and a guaranteed baseline nutrition of root vegetables, grains, and legumes). Half of the excess (past the amount which would give the full-time person an income equivalent to the tenth percentile of the donors) donations go to any nonsectarian charity chosen by the donors, a third for non-charitable costs of the organization, and the remainder as tax (hypothecated however the donors like, as all taxes are hypothecated by workers who opt to hypothecate their share).

Are there chaplains? More or less. Xanthal calls them MAGS officers, and the role isn't necessarily theistic, but they serve a similar function. Sometimes they're even called chaplains when they have a religious affiliation, though that's not an official title.
Which religion(s) are chaplains selected from? The role can be held by individuals of any or no faith.
How many chaplains are there? There's typically one per company or so; that would mean several tens of thousands.
Does your nation have Chaplain-Generals? MAGS officers are beholden to the Department of Morale and Guidance Services and to the commanding officer of the group to which they are assigned.
Is there only one or more than one? The MAGS Department is typically led by a Colonel or a Commodore; this individual would be the closest thing to a head of the service.
How are Chaplains selected? Department officials select from the pool of candidates. Normally these will be volunteers, but if there is a draft individuals may be required to serve. In either case those selected must complete special training before being commissioned.
What is the role of a chaplain? The role is loosely defined by design; a chaplain has no command authority so overreach is not a serious concern. Broadly, they tend to the psychological and emotional health of the soldiers in their purview. This can include everything from counseling to assisting in religious observance to providing moral direction to organizing parties.
Other information: Ask and ye shall receive.

Are there chaplains?: Yes
Which religion(s) are chaplains selected from?: Shinto, Buddhism, Taoism
How many chaplains are there?: 800
Does your nation have Chaplain-Generals? Yes
Is their only one or more than one (for example one for each religion)?: Yes, we've had problems with religious conflict in the past because one group felt like they were being overshadowed long before we had a formal army.
How are Chaplains selected?: Most are lower-level priests sent by their respective shrine or temple.
What is the role of a chaplain?: They mostly provide spiritual counseling although more powerful ones will be called into battle as some of our war machines literally run on faith.

Are there chaplains?: Yes.
Which religion(s) are chaplains selected from?: Any religion with a significant number of followers serving in the Armed Forces.
How many chaplains are there?: 3000
Does your nation have Chaplain-Generals? Yes.
Is their only one or more than one (for example one for each religion)?: One for each service branch: The Chaplain-General of the Army, the Chief of Chaplains of the Navy, and the Chief of the Air Force Chaplain Corps; the Deputy Chief of Chaplains of the Navy also serves as the Chaplain-General of the Marine Corps, while the Chaplain of the Coast Guard is drawn from a senior Navy captain.
How are Chaplains selected?: Military Chaplains are direct commissions who must be endorsed by a religious organization in order to serve on active duty; this religious endorsement must be maintained throughout the chaplain's military service and can be withdrawn at any time for religious or disciplinary reasons by the religious body with which the chaplain is affiliated.
What is the role of a chaplain?: Chaplains are charged with conducting religious services and providing counseling for their adherents. While they are commissioned officers, chaplains have no executive authority.
Other information: Several things to consider regarding Visayan military chaplains:
  • By established concordat, the Catholic Military Archbishop serves as the Chief of Chaplains for his service branch; his auxiliary bishop, by long-standing custom, serves as the Deputy Chief of Chaplains for his service branch, which is different from that of the Military Archbishop. The Military Archbishop as of this post, Samson Salvi, thus serves as Chaplain-General of the Army, while his auxiliary, Clement Dungog, serves as Deputy Chief of the Air Force Chaplain Corps.
  • The Confederation treats chaplains as noncombatants who may not directly participate in hostilities, but leaves the possibility of arming them entirely to the discretion of the unit commanders they are attached to in recognition of the possibility that opposing belligerents may not necessarily abide by the Laws and Customs of War.

Are there chaplains?:
Yes, of course.

Which religion(s) are chaplains selected from?:
They are Roman Catholics.

How many chaplains are there?:
We strive to have at least one chaplain per 500 soldiers.

Does your nation have Chaplain-Generals?
Yes, because religion is very important in our nation.

Is their only one or more than one (for example one for each religion)?:
There's only one.

How are Chaplains selected?:
The chaplains for military service are volunteers from the diocesan clergy. They need the permission from the bishop or, if they are members of a religious order, from their superior.

What is the role of a chaplain?:
Hearing confessions, saying daily Mass and distributing Holy Communion, giving last rites to the dying. They should promote the spiritual and moral well-being of the soldiers and provide pastoral care like the soldiers would normally receive in their home parishes. In particular, they should provide the men with knowledge about the faith so they can withstand the lies of the heretics they are fighting.
