Possible Typo (I'm not sure)

Postby Prorescia » Sat Aug 01, 2020 11:47 am

Issue #478 includes this " 'No problem, I can Handel the funding for you,' suggests TV-producer Daniel Roosevelt."
I am not sure if handle is spelled like that on purpose which is why this is only a possible typo.

Prorescia is a tourist friendly nation that has some of the most beautiful forests in the world. It controls a small part of current day Brazil about the size of French Guiana and is largely rural because of that with only 3 major cities, Santo Tablo, Pacifil, and Consanto Praia. The Government is Democratic and led by a Council who make most decisions. However, 5 democratically elected representatives can at any time call for a lack of faith vote which would impeach a current council member. The lack of faith vote is voted on by the populace which number in the thousands.

I believe that's a pun referencing the classical composer George Frideric Handel.

I believe that is a reference to German composer George Frideric Handel. Also, I believe you mean Issue #478 - this would make sense in the context of the issue being about Opera houses.

EDIT: I've been sniped! :p

I cringe at that issue now. If an author submitted that now, I'd point out that visual-only wordplay puns make no sense within the game's reality, as no character present would be able to hear any pronounciation difference between "handle" and "Handel".

Still, that was 5 years ago.

Aha, turns out I wasn't an editor back then, and the "Handel" pun wasn't in my original submission. I feel a lot better now!

This was a fun flashback for me:

Actually, the German word "Händel" is pronounced not-quite-identically to the English word "handle". Although according to Wikipedia, the guy moved to Britain at the age of 27, and changed his name to use the English spelling and pronounciation. I still often see the German spelling (with umlauts), though, and often hear people pronouncing "Handel" that way even when it doesn't have umlauts.
