Finaly some good fucking news. It's going to happen bois. Fusion time. Power positive. Electricity is about to take a nose dive in price, coal is dead. Electric cars now cheeper to fuel then gas cars. Mankind goes forth and starts healing the earth.

What say you nsg?

Global warming is a lie. It means we get hotter holidays! So this news is bad and sad...
"Out of the night that covers me,
Black as the pit from pole to pole,
I thank whatever gods may be
For my unconquerable soul.

In the fell clutch of circumstance
I have not winced nor cried aloud.
Under the bludgeonings of chance
My head is bloody, but unbowed.

Beyond this place of wrath and tears
Looms but the Horror of the shade,
And yet the menace of the years
Finds and shall find me unafraid.

It matters not how strait the gate,
How charged with punishments the scroll,
I am the master of my fate,
I am the captain of my soul.”

There are still a lot of issues with nuclear fusion reactors. It'll be a long time before fusion becomes a truly safe, sustainable, practical and large-scale source of energy, if it ever does. Also, this isn't new news. The ITER project was agreed 14 years ago and construction started 7 years ago.

Agreed. But at least it isn't a fission reactor.

I remember reading about the ITER project a few years ago in ''Science Illustrated'' (A popular-scientific journal), so it is not exactly new news.

Is it commercially ready in 5 years or just more experiments in 5 years? If it's the latter then this isn't news at all as fusion has always been 5-15 years away.

Fusion power has very little issues in terms of safety. Sustainability and practicality are the problem. Until the input is greater then the output problem is solved it will not be a viable source of energy

Thorium is a much safer bet. We have no reason to believe this will work, Fusion unlike Thorium is beyond our current technology.
As much as fusion nuclear power is awesome in theory and must be pursued, it is not a short or medium term help unfortunately.

Well France probably had the best nuclear power system in the world, so that makes sense.
Their power system might be the worlds best and should be emulated elsewhere.

Thorium is fission, and fission is still the cleanest and safest form of power that actually works.
Fission is great, and mass building of fission reactors is needed in the short to medium term. Until fusion becomes available (if it becomes available).

Nothing. But you have to have maximum safety standards up. We need the smartest people for every shift, a reactor that is everything proof and, absolutely no stupid experiments that would be below the incredibly high safety standards. No expense spared on anything. Only the best of the best parts to be used. I want even the toilets to never clog. It will be very costly, might not make a profit for 50 to a hundred years. Doesn't matter, no expense spared. Maximum safety everyday, all day.

Impossible. There are essential differences in technology. The fuel used in nuclear fusion is not radioactive in itself.

That’s not entirely true. There is some radioactive material and waste but it’s quite low level and the half life of the waste is quite short
