Honestly, I might go so far as to say that it isn't even /the/ distraction. Trump and Co. have used federal operatives to harass parts of the population for a while now (re: the ICE raids that were carried out about a year ago). I certainly don't think that the shitshow the feds are instigating in Portland is distracting from the gross mismanagement of COVID-19 or the economic downturn; I think it just is a brazen abuse of power from an administration that has been building up to and executing this type of thing for the past 3.5 years.

This is the type of stuff you'd think the U.N would intervene in.

Thank you Brusseldorf for redesigning my official flag. They did so without me asking.

Not at all. The UN tries to avoid intervening in purely domestic affairs.

That analogy doesn't quite work IMO. Is the house that's not on fire supposed to represent everybody else? I don't think that's what the intent was, but that's definitely how it looks, and man does it look bad. But I suppose "we're the only ones anywhere who actually have problems, everyone else is just a crybaby/racist" is compatible enough with BLM; there's at least two unrelated cases of a local BLM group taking a pride parade hostage to make it all about them.

So, blithely handwaving away complaints?

That's basically the essence of what the image's trying to lay bare.

Basically, the house next door my have somewhat leaky pipes, the doors may be creaky, the floors may need some repair. However the first house is currently on fire.

I think the point of the image was how 'all lives matter' just gets used to waft away anyone wanting to make a change.
