[Draft] Lovely Filth Down Here

Postby Liberimarcat » Wed Jul 15, 2020 2:02 pm

My second attempt at an issue after CA advised that I scrap my first. Very much a WIP.

Title: Lovely Filth Down Here

Validity: Law enforcement above 0, no ban on protest, High civil rights, high political freedom, have taxes, no socialism

Description:

Government tension over an infamous anarcho-communist collective in northern @@NATION@@ known as the @@DENONYM@@ Free Economic Territory finally came to a head when the group's militia defended a pursued criminal and fellow collectivist from the police at their compound, injuring an officer via a thrown rock. The local police department is now ready to mount a full scale raid, but in the past the commune has been compliant with government law, and it is speculated the criminal was innocent.

[Option 1]:

"I won't tolerate attacking my officers." yells Police Chief @RANDOMNAME@ over the phone. "To hell with their past compliance, as soon as one of those commies attacks a lawman, they are subject to the law, like everyone else. Just leave this to the local authority so we can carry out the assault and arrest those responsible."

[Effect] records of law abidance are less valued than boxing records

[Option 2]: "Come now, no one was meant to be hurt." stresses collective leader @@RANDOMNAME@@ on a video call. "The thrown rock was meant to simply back the police away from the compound, and we have never broke any government laws before, ever. We pay your taxes, participate in your crony society. And the so-called criminal is innocent, no collectivist would even have a bank account, much less go on a spree of checking fraud."

[Effect] a popular defense in court is that the perpetrator's politics would've prevented them from committing the crime

[Option 3]: "These so-called collectives and communes shouldn't even exist." says paleoconservative advisor @@RANDOMNAME@@, who has been standing behind you since the debate began. "They are detrimental to the nation's sense of nationalism, they oppose everything our social construct represents, and they are a nuisance to our boys in blue. Just ban these cults already and be done with it. If they refuse to respect our nation after that, then they should be subject to deportation."

[Effect] @@DENONYM@@ children who join after-school political clubs are frequently arrested

A few short things on formatting:
- @@NATION@@ is @@NAME@@
- You could change 'criminal' to 'suspect' to stay in line with 'speculated the criminal was innocent'. Really, it's up to you, but this is where language can steer people in a certain direction.
- Option 2 is where we see what the person is suspected of, which puts the rest of the issue in a slightly different light.

The options themselves are great, and the effect lines are solid. Needs some polishing to make the language consistent, but I can see it going places.

1. Fixed @@NAME@@

2. Changed criminal to suspect

3. Switched option 1 and 2

Am also planning to fix some other language consistency

If this is about CHAZ, then you should specify that they chased out the police. There really isn't enough contest here to establish why the police can't do anything about it

This is not about CHAZ, it's mainly expired by various historical references I've read about and Monty Python.

Past compliance with the law has no bearing on what the police do. If you break the law, they'll get you, no matter your past record.

And that's broadly the police argument, but since it's so high profile they aren't acting immediately and brashly.
