Since they forced Mississippi to change its flag, we should let them have the center star as a consolation prize.

Yet the current flag has 9 rows ... if you look at the past flags, quite a few were OK looking without being strictly symmetrical.

Mississippi has changed its flag once.
The Magnolia Flag wasn't much good, it was the kind you take to "Rate my Flag" in Forum 7, and get "it's not a flag 0/10"

I like the allusion to the Betsy Ross flag. We've had rows and staggered rows for far too long.

I'll admit, it bends a vexillological rule, but I stand by it being a great design.

Nobody's ever really cared about which star is where. I don't even think there's any official "this star represents this state" guidance.

Who is "they"? And Mississippi changed its own flag of its own free will.

I wasn't entirely serious, and I don't think TTJ was either.

If you want my sincere opinion, that flag is ugly.

The stars don't look equally spaced, and they're not, and they can't be in that pattern.
Maybe someone could re-do it to look slightly less awkward, but I doubt it will ever look perfect.

Hmmm. My sarcasmometer must need recalibration.

I really don't see any awkwardness in the flag, tbh. The unequal spacing is done equally.

I have a feeling it could be done better using a computer. I don't object to the circular form, and starting with five straight arms is necessary to avoid clashing with the five-way stars.

The problem is that the canton in their proposal is too small, it makes the flag look unbalanced in favor of the stripes.

They have done similar designs with a standard 2/5 width canton, which IMO looks much better:

I can't see that second option you have there without seeing the American flag from Fallout.

Ok, that's a fair point. If I had the will, I could mock up the star arrangement from the PNP one with the 2/5 canton.
