31st Anniversary of the Tiananmen Square Massacre

Postby Trollzyn the Infinite » Thu Jun 04, 2020 5:58 am

On April 15, 1989 a wave of peaceful pro-democracy protests swept across the People's Republic of China demanding an end to the oppressive, authoritarian regime set up by the Communist Party. This was but one of many movements seeking to bring about the end of the Socialist dictatorships across the world which would eventually culminate in the Fall of the Berlin Wall, the Reunification of Germany, the Fall of the Iron Curtain, the Collapse of the Warsaw Pact, the Collapse of Yugoslavia, and the Dissolution of the Soviet Union - all of which signaled the end of the First Cold War. However, on June 4, Deng Xiaoping and the Communist Party ordered the People's Liberation Army to forcefully suppress the protests in what became known as the Tiananmen Square Massacre which resulted in the murders of hundreds or even thousands (exact number unknown) of both unarmed protesters and innocent bystanders which ended with a CCP cover-up of the incident.

Today marks the 31st Anniversary of the Massacre - a grave crime that has gone unanswered for. To this day the event is denied by the CCP as having ever happened, and undergoes strict scrutiny by ChiCom censors to ensure the people who didn't know about it never know about it. But what China wants it's people to forget, we the people of the free world will always remember and should always remember. In times like these - with violence in the streets and government officials demanding violent crackdowns - it seems history looks close to repeating itself. But this thread isn't about that, it's about what happened in Beijing and several other Chinese cities on June 4, 1989. An event that should have been a wake-up call for the West that China was a threat, but was only met with a meager and weak-willed response. I think it's important we keep the memory of this event alive as it's an important reminder of how far the CCP is willing to go, what they're willing to do, and looking at Hong Kong it's just as relevant now as it was 31 years ago.

June 4th

Dear all, today is the 31st anniversary of the Tiananmen Massacre. On the 4th June, 1989, the Chinese government murdered citizens, rolled over living humans with tanks, and killed many brave students. Some survived, some did not, and even those survived are prosecuted of false crimes and are treated like animals.

31 years later, the scene happened again, right here at my very home, Hong Kong.

31 years. 31 years of the Communist Party of China’s authoritarianism, 31 years of brutality, injustice and cruelty to people across the world, be it African countries who are ravaged by China’s debt and UN vote buying, or the very citizens of China, Uyghurs, Tibetans, Taiwanese, Hong Kongers, Mongolians, and every single citizen, especially those enslaved by the Chinese government as cheap labour.

People of the world, yes, everyone of you here, please do not ever forget the crimes this police state committed 31 years ago.

STAND with Hong Kong, FIGHT for freedom, LIBERATE China, DEMOCRACY NOW.

Let’s all throw aside conflicts, work together and make the word a better place. Help us bring democracy to 1.4 billion people, and liberty to every one of us. We cannot do this alone.

And especially given what's happened as of late (cf N"S"L for Hong Kong), it is one out of a list of reasons as to why we shouldn't trust China.

Lol.

To be fair, only respect authority that:
1. Adheres to common human morality (meaning adhere to the constitution and the bill of rights)
2. Accepts and welcomes criticism (meaning they are willing to listen to comments on what they can improve on, which is why a political opposition is important)
3. Have the approval of the majority (and this a democratic system is needed)

The Chinese communist party does none of these. They thus deserved no respect, and should indeed be overthrown.

What sickens me is that there are some media mongrels here in the west that also deny the massacre. They give legitimate looking sources for tankies to quote.

I cant wait till someone comes in and says it either didn't happen (unironically) or tries to justify it because some warped notion about law and order.

Its a tragic thing that happened, and its disgusting how much the Chinese cover it up.

To make sure these media don’t cover up the facts, ripple should more actively learn about the massacre. Knowledge beats authoritarians, and as citizens of the world, learning more about how every single human on earth are treated is very important and definitely worth learning. Only by doing this will we every bring democracy to every corner of earth and beyond.

Authority should be respected when it has earned that respect.
The law should be obeyed only if it is just.

Otherwise it is inherently immoral to respect said authority or obey said law.

For #3, also add 'without coercion'.

I believe we can have a society without vertical hierarchies, but better people taking control of the state would certainly be a start.

And fuck the Chinese government, they are not communists, they are state capitalists and tyrants.

Stateless societies are a pipe dream. Such a thing existing on a greater scale than a small town simply isn't feasible.

They're not even state capitalist. There is no free market in China. They're about a stones throw away from becoming a Fascist State. They aren't there just yet, but they're well on their way.

The Tiananmen Square Massacre was absolutely horrible.

The Chinese government is very disgusting. A massive polluter, backwards in gay rights and, very abusive towards it's own people.

Free Hong Kong. Taiwan would do a better job running things for the Chinese people.

All of that being said, Lafayette Square just experienced something almost as bad with peaceful protests being shot at with rubber bullets so that Trump can do a photo op.

In Hong Kong they rightly held a vigil for the massacre, a solemn reminder of those terrible events and that the city still remains under oppression.

Some part of me is slowly starting to dread the prospect of such a thing happening again. Lots of countries are becoming ripe for it- Hong Kong, clearly, but also the US and the events at Lafayette Square. Seems the only thing stopping tanks from rolling down the streets right now is that people within the administration are urging the president not to go ahead with it, and he's too stupid to remember what he wanted before chatting to someone. Which is rather frightening.
