Obesity and Weather

Postby Martryn » Mon May 25, 2020 6:00 pm

I'm not sure if this is the right place for questions like this, but this has been bothering me for months now.

I've been on this site for... a while, and this is my first forum post. I tend to log-in every 2-3 days, resolve the issues I have, and leave.

I just got an issue about building laws, and as my nation has been trying to deregulate a lot of things, I chose the option to deregulate, again. And, again, I see that my Weather score dropped by 28.6% and my obesity rate climbed 3.6%, the biggest drop and climb among my trends. But why? Why would eliminating safety regulations in the construction industry decimate my weather score? Is it because of increased construction, which would require more natural resources? Where is the corresponding rise in... population, or my economy? And why would people now be fatter? Where is the logic behind any of this? It seems like anytime I take a conservative stance on an issue, obesity rises and weather falls, even if the issue has no bearing on either of these two.

Again, sorry for posting this in the wrong place. This is killing my enjoyment of this website and I'm about to take another long hiatus.

I'm assuming that you're referring to 1118.3

Obesity tends to increase with increases in various pro-capitalist stances. It makes sense, with people making more money, they can afford to eat more (look at America's obesity problem, for example).

As for weather, it tends to negatively correlate with increases in industry since many industrial practices cause issues such as acid rain.

It's notable that population only increases with time and is not affected by issues. Your economy is already decently high, so increasing it beyond the point you are at will come in very small increments. I'd be willing to be if a fresh nation answered that option, their economy would increase.

Remember that the game and the stat effects are satirical, and oftentimes play into stereotypes. Also, looking at percentages can be misleading. Looking at your obesity stat, you only experienced a small rise, while the 28.6% change in your weather stat was only a drop from 7 to 5.

Statistics are often somewhat satirical as mentioned above; allowing public breastfeeding increased my obesity rate. But if it’s the percentages that really worry you, remember that they are proportional to your current score: a 3 point increase to a 5 point score is +60%. If you want to monitor the numbers more closely, I suggest clicking on settings that show more statistics so you can see the actual numerical changes too.

Oh yeah, time for me to shine! :P

Here's the latest data (well, latest as in I got 96,000+ nations from 26th of May) of Obesity vs Weather.

X-Linear = Weather
Y-Linear = Obesity
Z-Log = Economic Freedom. Red = Socialist/Communist, Blue = Capitalist. I used log because it shows the two wings clearly.

Just depresses me, is all. I never wanted my wookies to be scrounging trash cans. I wanted to leave their forested homes alone.

It does make perfect sense though for weather and obesity to be related. :p If it’s lousy outside, nobody wants to leave their house!
